Men of the world: our day is back. Our International Day of Men is back on the scene. Its back on the platform that only comes, once a year every November 19th. Matter of fact, it should be recognized all the time like the day of Women, in which I’m referring to International Women’s Day every March 8th. And of course that is the usual day that we complain on Social Media that oh, they have a day, but we don’t? International Men’s Day for 2020 is themed around the subject: “Better Health for Men and Boys.”
We need to empathize this very well because it’s a major concern for us. We already know some or knew someone who died very early ahead of their female counterparts. It’s like what, every 5% or 6% more than their wives, girlfriends, partners, and other related figure. Yes, that is one of the reasons why many of us MEN folk don’t do or like doctors. Maybe we need to just to rescue us. Not just at the last minute, but all the time. Now I know when we see this, this scares the SH….you know I’m about to cuss which I don’t, but you get the idea. This year, we lost 3 men that mattered to entertainment, sports, movies and Civil Rights.
Chadwick Boseman, (aka Black Panther) died of Colon Cancer at age 43. Now this is scary for me because he was my age. I’m 43 now and when December 5th gets here, I want to be hard nosed well for my health. Mixed with being diabetic in all. But how could someone like Chadwick who did some blockbuster and notable movies was doing so well, die without telling anyone about him getting sick? His last movie was “Da 5 Bloods”, which was shown on NetFlix back in the Summer. I got to say that movie was well shown! But mainly he was still sick. All the movie fraternities in the place has already missed him.
Second: we remember Congressman John Lewis and Alex Trebek. Both had one thing in common: Pancreatic Cancer. John Lewis as we know was one of the followers that he was influenced by Dr. Martin Luther King. And yet made his way up through the U. S. House of Representatives. What John Lewis was also known was crossing the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama during the civil rights movement. His influence of course lasted for over 4 decades. When we were viewing his funeral, he had several home going goodbyes. But when he had his burial service in Georgia, the one thing he had added that I didn’t expect was a 21 Gun Salute with the flag folded 13 times. Look he didn’t serve in the Military, but earned every one of those in his honor. John Lewis was 80 years old.
We know Jeopardy! We know that Alex Trebek was a legend on the game show circuit for 37 years. Hearing the Jeopardy theme when trying to think of those answers. Many of us used to sit and watch the show every weeknight just to get answer the questions in which Alex gave the answers. That was Jeopardy, in getting the question that lead the answers. Oh we know this. No matter who you are or what you’re into. Alex had the knowledge and he had it to a point to get us more engaged in those books. Alex Trebek died this month at age 80 due to Pancreatic Cancer. Just to think, that Alex Trebek and John Lewis both died at the same age of 80 in a span of 4 months. Alex’s last taping of the show, will be on Christmas Day next month. So for you Jeopardy Fans, you may want to set the DVR to get a gander of the last time of Alex in a Jeopardy studio.
And also, let us not forget about Kobe Bryant from his passing unexpectedly in January.
So yes, International Men’s Day of 2020 should matter. That part was just one example of why it matters. Another is a fact of Black Lives. Yes, we know about George Floyd. His life should matter just like many who had passed on harshly! And yet while many pass this over constantly that when we hear again about legality of young and middle aged black men being hunted by the police, yes we do get concerned. And many stay silent about lives being not mentioned all the time. That has to stop! Men, excuse me International Men, I’m sure many of you outside of America has to ask what is up with the black men in the United States getting hunted down like this? And yet many don’t know the understanding about why it is. Yes, this is and has been America’s problem from the time of slavery when black were sold and separated from families. We know this. Many of us in the Black Community especially Black Men KNOWS THIS ALL TOO WELL! On a day like today when International Men are being recognized, this has to be examined BY ALL MEN as a concern, as a tool of learning and also we talk about the ongoing legality of mental health, physical health, spiritual health and yes financial health. Yes even though this is International Men’s Day but after the day is over, we males have to get back to work!
In part of our health concerns, even the issue of the coronavirus or this COVID-19 had hindered our vision of what we need to see and to expand the idea of International Men’s Day. But if we just continue to mask up, test up or anything up on this new symptom then we need to be up on our game when this plague is over. How do I know this? A while back when this COVID-19 was just starting out, I lost a former teacher from college that taught me printing and bindery. A black teacher mind you. And for those who say, “Black People don’t get the Coronavirus”. That folks is a lie! My former teacher who passed, was one of the 200,000+ that succumbed to the virus. And mostly who passed away were poor. And yes, almost in between. So as we see the numbers go up and out of control, we need to heed this warning. Out of the 200,000 plus that passed away, I’ll bet a fraction of that number were black men slightly. So Men of the world, we need to watch it like a hawk. If it’s necessary to get tested or in this case to get checked out, then GET CHECKED OUT! This stuff is no joke and we need to be on our P’s and Q’s to be aware of the symptoms.
On the flip side of this matter of positive reasons: Doug Emhoff. He is the first Jewish East Coast raised, and soon-to-be “Second Gentleman” of the Biden Administration. Yes he is Kamala’s husband, but Doug will be making history of his own in role that usually women have, but now it’s the men’s turn. Speaking of that, already Joe Biden will be making waves as the 46th President soon! How is that for a #IMD2020 moment?
Also with the talk about SpaceX, we need to highlight this brother: Victor Glover who is in space right now on the ISS. He is the first “FIRST” African American Astronaut (a rookie mind you) that will be staying in space for at least 6 months. And he and 3 other crew members will be working on the station to help improve and innovate great things for NASA. Look here, he’s not the first black man to do this! Others like Guion Bluford, the late Ronald McNair, Charles Bolden, Bernard Harris, the late Michael Anderson, Leland Melvin, Alvin Drew are just a few black men that did the flights and space walks. Unfortunately for Ronald McNair, he passed away onboard the Space Shuttle Challenger in the explosion in 1986. Us in Gen-X land knows this very well. And similar to Ronald McNair, Michael Anderson died in the Columbia Explosion coming back with his crew in February, 2002. 16 years after the Challenger Explosion. These were and are African American Men making history in Space! Where is the positive news on this? There are the negatives, but yet positives to be proven! This is just a sample.
Aside from all of this: what is our “manly vision” for the future International Men’s Days going forward? What is our vision? This is what I would like to see in this space:
- Stop complaining and questioning about “When is international men’s day” every freaking March 8th! Yes, the women do have a International Day for them and its fair that we males need to have one. Oh, wait we do every November 19th?
- PROMOTE! PROMOTE! PROMOTE! the you know what for International Men’s Day. Men, remember last year when I said that the planning of IMD must take place on the 19th each month? It’s time to go back to do that again. And of course the male groups of fraternities, boys groups in all must fall in to get this thing started up. And to continue to use International Men’s Day to serve it’s true purpose. And also for all you male groups out there, start recruiting! And of all those wishing that Google should have done a Doodle for today, and if you didn’t see it, why are you complaining? If you are an able body male that has sketching or drawing talents and if you keep seeing this blank space of nothing for International Men’s Day, guess what? CREATE IT! Talk to the right folks that knows this very well and get in touch to network. Let them know that you are serious and get the cash flow ideas working. Look at the Juneteenth Day Google Doodle from this year. Previously there was no doodle, but it took a black woman to helped turn that around. Sample that stuff!
- For the women that are looking at this, if you have sons, grandsons, nephews, cousins, uncles, grandfathers, great grandsons/fathers, godsons, godfathers, in all. You know your men. If you haven’t took the time to appreciate them or value them of who they are, make sure you give them their flowers now! Don’t wait until they pass away or a missed opportunity. And this reminds me that one of Whitney Houston’s bodyguards said the same thing 8 years ago. Don’t recall the name, sorry. But I do recall that he was a black male. And also, don’t go around demanding that there should be no IMD or everyday is a Man’s Day. And women: STOP TELLING ALL MEN HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!!!!! Just had to say that. Men, do not perpetrate!
- For all the churches: No matter the denomination, ADD THIS TO YOUR SPECIAL SUNDAYS. Don’t just say Father’s Day.
- International Men’s Day should not just be on a Twitter Trend List. It should be a going forward progress all the time.
- Last time on this blogs, I mentioned about a story regarding Roland Martin and a subject about black women meeting on a phone conference every Sunday night, talking about what they would like to see and not waiting on someone else. Each man reading this blog of mine, needs to have a weekly or a monthly conference since many of us are at home behind laptops with Zoom and WebEx. No matter the organization, fraternity or others. We need to have this to keep us engaged EVERYDAY!
- All levels of government needs to acknowledge International Men’s Day. Especially here in the United States. Just like what the women do for Girls Day in Government for the Women’s Month.
- If you are a business owner, you need to be involved in this matter too.
- For future #IMD2020s, use the platform to VOTE! Register, act upon and educate the reasons why. I say this because black women had pushed harder the most to get the vote out this year. Black men need to sample the formula!
- And the last but not least, Men need to have a safe space. Where they can talk about what’s on their minds without getting involved in a toxic conversation, about being harassed of not manning up or showing emotions. Let us have a day or time to exhale! Take the time to GET CHECKED, get organized, get engaged and most of the time, take the time to defend yourself! IN ANY AREA! Yes, I did this twice this year about my character and believe me it was not pretty. But I got my voice heard!
So yes there are more ideas, but I think this is just a start. Men, I hope that many of you had a great International Men’s Day 2020. But after this day is done, what will we do for International Men’s Day 2021? That will be the vision to journey on.
HAPPY INTERNATIONAL MEN’S DAY!
Scratching my head all this time: The Midsummer to the unofficial ending towards Labor Day Weekend. And also the march to Autumn.

Well, I’ve been on a break most of the Summer with a few interruptions. First, my Stephen’s Spot on WordPress Facebook Page was at a standstill due to the false pretense of a violation. Which was later appealed and restored. Also, in Alabama confronting racism in a reaction manner of physical. School has gone back in session for many, the so-called former president was jailed and booked, the NFL and NCAA Football Seasons have started up, and reckless drivers are still a pain, also since we are in the 9th month of the year of Awareness of Prostate Cancer, Alopecia, Childhood Cancer and Suicide Awareness. Hip-hop is still going on for 50 years, and the major concerns of the political landscape of 2024 have begun. Actually, it’s already started with the early fireworks with a negative sense of the country’s landscape. And all the “bull junk” that Deion Sanders has been getting since the transfer to Colorado has been reaching a fever pitch. But knowing, it could be reversed. Even the usefulness of the jobs in America has been questioned, sales tax is creeping up like Thriller, and did I mention that Trump is still in jail? All others including a statement to be made regarding going before the fall. Even Generation X is on the rise yet again. And, I’m scratching my head again….
Florida, what is up with these white supremacists dressing up in red and black with masks on in your state?
Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Incorporated: your 60th Anniversary of your Founder’s Day is coming up. What are the next ideas going forward?

So there are those in Wisconsin who still can’t take the L when Justice Janet Protasiewicz won? Come on, man! She won by 11 points over Daniel Kelly. Move on, losers.
So has everyone finally found a reason why Hip Hop has been around for 50 years?
Roland Martin Unfiltered is now 5 years old. And it’s online. Are there any believers now?
So now everyone is considered a Colorado Buffalos Fan because of Deion Sanders? Where are the ones that stated he sold out? They have been very quiet lately!
By now, everyone should have seen Star Trek: Picard. The final season. Oh you know it’s out on DVD and Blu-Ray, right?
GOP Candidate Vivek Ramaswamy believes that Juneteenth Day is a useless holiday and should be replaced with an Election Day Holiday. Um…. obviously Vivek is dumb. Who let that chump in?
For all of the blog readers who are truck drivers. Pick up Truck Drivers. Which is the best pick-up Truck is best to buy? Either for this year or next year.
This season for us Wisconsin Football Fanatics will be new for the Badgers and Packers. After 104 years after the founding of the Packers, the team will start Jordan Love, as the first African American QB1. Yes, he’s the first and there is nothing racist about it. It is a fact! The Green Bay Packers in its 104 years as a franchise had never had a STARTING QB of color. It was from Curly Lambeau to Aaron Rodgers. In between, Seneca Wallace, Aaron Brooks, and Brent Hundley were backups while Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers were still at the helm. So why are those in the Packers Backers’ land having a hard time understanding it? For the Badgers, Luke Fickell is the new head coach. Tanner Mordecai is the QB, and the new offense is called the Air Raid with Braleon Allen. Not sure what that is, but we’ll see. How will this go for both clubs? And by the way, this will be my 30th year watching the Cardinal and White when they were Rose Bowl-bound.
Every Saturday, I get the chance to play the music that has the word Saturday in it. Such as De La Soul’s “A Roller Skating Jam Named Saturdays”. This single came out in March 1991 when I was in Middle School. Way back when. So what Saturday music jams others do take a chance to listen to on a Saturday?
Mortal Kombat 1 is coming. Who’s buying?
CALLOUT: For all the Millennials, Generation Z, and those in Boomer Land: why come for Generation X? We aren’t messing with you!

Madden 24 is out on all platforms EXCEPT the Nintendo Switch. But there is an alternative: Axis Football. Who likes it? What is the real beef with EA Sports with Nintendo anyway?
Can I make an announcement? If many are advertising for jobs that need applicants right away without any supplemental requirements, there is no deal. Applicants, get the information first. Ask questions and then make your decision. Questions?
Every September 21st is the day many play September by Earth, Wind, and Fire. It’s a classic hit. Agree?
For many of us who are still paying back Student Loans, who applied for the SAVE option that President Joe Biden unveiled?
In the next few months, we will be paying more. Obviously, it’s the 2 percent sales tax here in Milwaukee. So we will be making decisions by either cutting back or saving up on items and purchases we buy. And how will this affect our bills and jobs?
This month will be the 22nd Anniversary since 9/11. As in the worst day of American history when the country was attacked. Keep in mind this was 2001 on a Tuesday Morning. Have we really changed since then?
Last year many complained about DirecTV Stream not having the NFL Network. Now it’s here. So what led to the idea this time?
Are many surprised that the Halloween decorations are in the stores really early a month ahead of October? Next, you might see Christmas Decorations coming up. Don’t be surprised.
NFL on Fox will be celebrating 30 years on air. What a time to be alive to see a new era of football television from its inception to now. From Pat Summerall to Greg Olsen. Pam Oliver to Erin Andrews. The graphics. And to add: The Green Bay Packers are 2-0 in their Super Bowl Game Coverages. Yeah, I said it! Agree or disagree?
FOR GENERATION X ONLY: Which jobs are worth hiring right now if you are still slightly under 50 years old? And want to change careers?
Why is Noah Lyles running his mouth about the NBA? And this talk about World Champions? Dude, hush!
September is the month of Awareness of Suicide, Alopecia, Childhood Pediatric Cancer, and mostly Prostate Cancer. Has the homework been completed yet?
Riddle me this, the MTV VMAs were scheduled for September 12th. Why this late? That usually comes before Labor Day.
Speaking of Generation X, with all the buzz about our Generation getting out more than ever, what will it take to actually get the respect we deserve?
For all the conservative and white nationalists: wokeism is not going anywhere. You minus well get used to it. So why are many afraid?
Are the Transfer Protocols in colleges legal?
Here is a question, if Doja Cat doesn’t care about her fans, then why make a devish music video that is getting attention like Lil Nas X did last time? So I guess folks like to see all this pan out? When they say, “Doja Cat wants your attention,” What attention is she actually seeking? Really? It’s just like all the rest before she had done the same thing. (I.E. Madonna, Prince, Michael Jackson, NWA, 2Pac, Alice Cooper, etc.) Make a controversial song, sell it, generate noise and criticism, and get this, she like everyone else will be going to the bank making all that money with the sales. We’ve seen this before. Don’t act surprised.
With the new school of cashless rules making marks at grocery stores and ballparks, do folks still write paper checks? That will be old news.
I’m getting old. What the heck is Fry-yay?!!!!
How are the Beyonce concerts going? Can that sell out in Milwaukee? Just asking.
4 day work weeks might be the next generation normal for the jobs. Could this be true going forward? What about those Hybrid Jobs or Remote Careers?
Do High Schools EVER invite Alumni to their Homecoming games? Most of them need to stop being silent.
Time to chat about church. Really. There are three types of churches we see today: The trying, the active, and the bad. The active churches are out there doing their ministry and catching on. The trying is second in line between them, and the bad are just using their ministry to demonstrate the negative. When I think about this, I begin to ask about all the negative remarks about Christianity and Religious aspects we hear all the time. It is mostly the weekly attendance, finances, not enough youth, the message on spirituality, groups (especially for men), and a dozen other questions that many are still asking, even about the abuse of ministers, lay ministers, and congregation members usually do the back-talk politics, and members who were affected leave the church by moving to another congregation, or move out completely and never forget of what was said, in again it’s all negative! That is getting the most attention. But when many read about church organizations that provide scholarships and it’s shared on Social Media or Nextdoor, it usually responds with a laughing emoji. So churches that do good work in the community in a positive sense get laughed at? Is that where we are now? Seriously! I really want to know. Especially from those who are too stupid to see the positive which many do ask ALL THE TIME! And don’t forget when tragedy strikes, who many run to? Guess where: That’s right. the Church. Even if many haven’t been there in years, or just heard stories of not going.
How is this still making the news commercials? This “anti-CRT commercial” is just wrong on so many levels. And the conservatives are pushing the negative.
September is Hispanic Heritage Month. Shout out to all who celebrate. But don’t laugh at the occasion while many laughed at Black History Month. Agreed?
Autumn is coming. Who’s ready to let go of Summer?
And finally: this needs to be said. Listen up.
As I stated at the top of the blog, my Stephen’s Spot on WordPress FB Page was hit with a violation. But there was a lesson. As of August 24, 2023, the page was reactivated. It was reactivated with flying colors and found that there were NO VIOLATIONS of any kind that met with the concerns. So far it’s back on the scene and it’s not a problem. Let me be clear with this notion: the page is not intended to cause any harm to anyone! This is really an extension of this page because many probably don’t know how to use WordPress. No, I don’t work for WordPress nor I am a promoter of the site. However, it is also a way to convey to the audience of different perspectives. That’s it. Doesn’t matter if it’s religion, sports, health, local concerns, zodiac signs like my Sagittarius, voting, or Milwaukee. Even music, pro wrestling, education, employment, technology, or any other topic or subject that comes to mind. Even introversion. See, that is really what this is. Back on August 11th, the page was unceremoniously unpublished regarding a user laughing about a story that featured an African-American male pre-teen who was arrested for doing his chores. He was taking out the garbage. And I put an editorial on the story about why is this a real issue, then it was responded to with an emoji laugh. Who wants to laugh at this thinking it’s funny? And after that, the page was unpublished for two weeks. I’m going through the back end to appeal to Facebook to get the page activated or in this case, reinstated. It was finally done by using Meta Business Suite and the appeal/request was sent and done. Why I am rehashing this again? It’s really simple, there are those who want to silence others to tell the truth without any harm or concern. I’m not going to let that stop me. I was told at 18 years old by one of my late uncles, “Don’t let nothing stand in your way”. This was December 1994. And the thing is, I am reminded of that every single time. So I need to say this: if there are those who feel the posts that come from real sources are for the offended or opinionated: DO NOT LOOK AT THE PAGE! Keep scrolling and searching. No one is not trying to force anyone to read the page.
Already, the followers of the FB Page are at 28. I want to see more than 28. I want to see 128, 229, 500, or maybe 1,000 and more. I don’t get paid to use these platforms, nor I am endorsed by anyone who is a blogger who supports them. I’m just me. And like I said before, if the Facebook Page goes away, or if I stop publishing the blog stories on the page, this main page will still continue. The Twitter and Tumblr pages will continue additionally. But I don’t want to slight Facebook either.
So if you like the page, give some thumbs-ups, stars, or any other positive like. After all, if many think the posts have been a concern on FB, guess what? I read the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel every Sunday. The actual paper. They post stories that are concerning which not everyone likes. What about the news outlets? Either local, regional, or national: they have concerned stories to tell. What about The Bible: concerned stories dealing with sin and salvation. Certain books and novels: do the same thing. But with those being concerned, there is always a positive spin for the greater good.
Hang tight, I’m not done. Yet.
In the words of Deion Sanders: “Give me my theme music!“
