With the weekend up for the Father’s, I want to personally say Happy Father’s Day to all the Dad’s who will be recognized. Even the Grandfathers, Uncles, Cousins, and those whom are like fathers in the world. Even Godfathers.
This Father’s Day, will be a tough one for me, because my father passed on February 24th of this year, as you all know. It will be a weird one for me that he’s not here physically to celebrate another Father’s Day. This would have been for me a “40th Father’s Day” with him and a “47th” for my sister. Yes we miss him!  EVERYDAY since that day, it hasn’t been easy. Going to the entertainment area in his house where he died hasn’t been easy. And most recently, we in the family had to give up or surrender his 2007 Cadillac Escalade and that for me was real downer! Kind of sad. But that was not even sadder of losing him in February.  If you had read my “Losing Dad” blog stories, this was just opening up the book. Of course there will be more of my father’s lessons that will guide this blog as well as everyday values. If you have been riding with me through this storm and also can relate with similarity, I thank you. However, if your father is still living, and has this understanding, I must say that even though the sympathy has been plentiful, but you really haven’t experienced losing a parent. Until that moment happens to you, then maybe you can express that. Not to disrespect or front, but that is how I feel. It’s like boots. If you can’t really walk the boots that my father wore, you haven’t been there. You don’t know squat.

So with that being said, I’m dedicating this blog to the memory of my Dad. And also to the Dads whom are in heaven no longer with us. If you feel my pain, you ride with me. If you’re just wondering what it is, maybe this is not the story for you.

Time to roll.

For those hating on Father’s Day, you realize they need love, right?

I see #45 already charged on being on some stupid mess. Is this the breaking point?

That shooting though in VA. Why not the coverage of the shooting more in San Francisco at all of the places: UPS?

Rep. Steve King needs to chill out and shut up. Why is he pulling the Obama card to blame?

Wonder Woman is a hit! But why all the hate of her costume not being “American enough” by Fox News?

Also: I don’t care if any of the theaters have a Women’s Only Day for Wonder Woman. So what. Let them have it. But what happens when Transformers: The Last Knight has a MEN ONLY NIGHT? Women don’t start Illing.

Is AT&T Locker really fading out so quickly?

Juneteenth is the day after Father’s Day, who is taking a day off?

Milwaukee Alderman Tim Zielenski thinks that cutting the Streetcar funding will help the salary of Milwaukee Cops and Firefighters.  Question: Does he know that THE FUNDING FOR STREETCAR IS ONLY FOR THE STREETCAR? How dumb.

I know many probably had this asking from Bill Maher’s show when Ice Cube schooled him on the N-Word. When Ice Cube said that if another race uses the word that “stabs black people in the back”, in is words per se, does that equate the pain of black folks who use the N-word to another black person whom don’t like it, feel that pain as well? (ASKING FOR A FRIEND)

I can hear this now: THERE IS NOTHING TO DO FOR THE KIDS. Well, adults what are we doing standing around and pondering? Make something!

Black people, we know that June is Black Music Month, are any of us recognizing this like Black History Month?

For the LGBT crew, you like this flag? *Source: Philly.com

Why is that when Father’s Day comes, and you’re in Church, why is the congregation is less packed than Mother’s Day?

June 10th just passed: You realized that there was a Children’s Day right?

MPS: you realize that you will have a short summer vacay right?

Milwaukee, you know that Summerfest is coming up with that 50 year lineup?

With all the news of Russia floating, did they or not tapped into our Election stuff?

Will the Milwaukee Public Schools alumni have a another Alumni Summit?

For those that hate the females on the hill, do you hear what Sen. Kamala Harris is saying? Don’t get interrupted, Kamala!

Is Steve Harvey really getting low in his comments of brown water?

When the Summer comes…..oh what’s up with June 21st?

So far, Wisco has 2 candidates to possibly run for Governor. Can any of them be strong that can take down Scott Walker?

The recent shooting at Milwaukee’s Lakefront is not surprising. But why did the 19 year driver now dead DID NOT stop previously?  I’ll talk about this later.

Class of 2017! Congrats. Now what’s next?

Speaking of the shootings: we already had June 2nd of the National Gun Violence Awareness Day to recognize the concerns of Gun Violence. Why haven’t many didn’t listen to the consciousness of this matter? Ask those whom lost family members or friends to guns. It’s really the accountability.

Ok, so body shaming is a thing. Actually it’s been a thing. Remember when back in school when folks ribbed on someone who had a big butt, braces, big nose or any other body parts? We’ve been body shaming since forever. Y’all can stop now.

Will Sheriff David Clarke EVER take his resignation as Sheriff now?

Of all people: Senator John McCain, says that America had better leadership under Obama. WOW! Why didn’t he say this when Obama was in office?

And now, I have to switch the gears for the Father’s here:

Attention Single Mother Ladies, when your man is like a father to your kids, yes he’s not your baby daddy. But do you think that the way he’s treating your kids with respect, is kind of like well, like a father?

Ladies DO NOT GET AN ATTITUDE ON FATHER’S DAY! DON’T YOU DARE DO IT! It’s not your day. You can support it, do you agree?

Again, when Father’s Day comes up in church, why is the congregation is less packed than Mother’s Day?

Look, when I’m in the stores, why that other folks assume that I’m a father? NO I AM NOT!

How many Churches will have Men’s Day on Father’s Day?

For those of us Single men whom are NOT fathers, and don’t have no kids and not being pressured being fathers, what is the haps from the women who don’t seem to understand that? And that goes for Men with kids and married.

Does being a Godfather count as well being a Father?

Does being a Community Father or Male Guardian count being a Father?

Does adopting kids count being a Father?

Chris Rock once said that “your uncles prepare you for life”. Agree?

For those whom never had a chance to celebrate a Father’s Day with your Father, do you go to your uncles or male cousins for advice, as in Male-Side Advice?

Why do those who have Fathers alive telling those that lost fathers recently or long ago that ” My father is living and I understand what you’re going through.” Um….no you don’t. When will those stop saying that? We get the sympathy, but you don’t understand the pain.

Why do those who are your relatives have to say I’m sorry about your dad? My dad was a relative! WAKE UP!

And the last question: Well, I’m not to mention that. Simply I’m just going to leave like this. Those of us whom have lost our Dads. Even years ago, or just recently are still feeling the sting of losing the men we call Daddy, Dad, Pops, The Old Man, etc. It hurts. It’s weird and surreal and also crazy that they are not here! It’s not a reality show that it will come on and it’s all an act. Our fathers whom we lost are not coming back. What remains of them: is the lessons that they left behind. No matter how big, small, large, tiny, easy, or hard. They left marks, summaries, teachings, unfinished business, and many other aspects that we continue to learn from and pass along to the next generation. If we whom had fathers and I think it’s emotional for us, I have several questions to ask:

Did we learned something when Dad was here?

What did we learn?

How will we apply it to our daily lives?

And what will we leave behind with those lessons?

What happens afterwards, do we continue with the missions or restart our own stuff?

DO WE EVEN CARE?!!!!

So yes, to the fallen fathers, and even to my own Father that I’m named after: We wish them our love, our hearts, and our sincere, SINCERE gratitude for the lessons that gave us believe in us, empower us and continue the goals always. We say to the heavens to them: HAPPY FATHER’S DAY. We the survivors of the fallen fathers whom are not here resting in the graves, crypts, and Urns will NEVER EVER FORGET! Their spirits will inspire and soar always in us to be more empowered than ever before.

Here is the final part of my experience of losing my father in “Losing Dad.”

The week of March 5th was indeed approaching. And with the coming days of the funeral, it was going to get tough to declare my father heaven bound.

Most of that was of me looking at movies like Higher Learning when Malik (played by Omar Epps) and Professor Phibbs (played by Laurence Fishburne) were talking about the recent shooting on campus, and Malik perservered throughout the madness. Nearly at the end of the conversation, Professor shouted, MALIK! And quoted this from a famous African American: “Without struggle there can be no longer progress.” And Malik responded, “Frederick Douglass.” Final word from the Professor: “Right.” Later on the scene of Any Given Sunday when the coach talked about the inches pep talk. But most of that was gearing towards Rocky V when Rocky himself visited Mick’s old gym and hearing him and Mick going over the boxing moves before the title fight. Mick’s advice (played by Burgess Meredith whom was Penguin from the old Batman Shows) telling Rocky about being prepared for the fight, and his words of when we losing our friends and family members, and Mick didn’t have a reason to go on. But when he looked at Rocky, he had a reason to move forward. It was a scene I played about three times and getting a “wave of emotion” dealing with the loss of Dad. That felt real. And it has.

March 9th, 2017 was the hurdle of that. Before many of the public was open to the viewing of Dad at the Williamson Funeral Home, myself along with my mother and Aunt had our private moment. It was very sad. Seeing my 69 year old father lying in the casket. Heartbreaking. Tough. No matter what you call it, it wasn’t felt right at all. I said that day that I got his back. And plus he still inspires me. He helped me out, my sister out, he served this country and many others. I said, “thank you, Dad. THANK YOU!” Too bad my sister couldn’t make it to the visitation due to her health concerns, but being the representative that I am, I had to pinch hit. Dad was decorated well. Including the suit he wore along with him being in the silver diplomatic casket with the Stars and Stripes of the flag being displayed. The flowers with the themed red, white, and blue were on each side with the US Army Flag in the background. The American Flag was draped slightly towards the right by not touching the floor. After we had our moment, our guests and family members visited us as they offered condolences and sympathies. We also had guests from his old high school of North Division to come out to visit us. Old neighbors, friends, my pastor, relatives on both sides to come for a visit. Even current and former members of my church, my mother’s Alumni and Sorority came along. They came to show the support of us.

Later on in the visit, my pastor asked for prayer, and then I was given a chance to speak on my Dad’s behalf. I address the family and guests as a way to kick off the sharing of the memories. Most of the references that I summarized was from the funeral bulletin in which I highlighted the graduations, special events, and others. It was called “Final Salute to my Father.” Even also he matched my church salary in which to him to help me out to support. Even about if the Packers played, being the victors or losers. And the lasting thing I summarized the statement as a “Veteran’s Son” in which I am. I said to my family that he, was the last one. But I also said to my 1st Cousins espeicially that we have to step up. It’s our turn now. We have to be there for our children. If we don’t tell the stories, then who will? After that, I thanked the guests coming out and thakning them for their support.

Other neighbors and friends summarized my father in similar ways after I spoke. And the end of that, and exiting out of the funeral, I told my father that “I’ll see you tomorrow” with tapping the casket.

Then came the day. March 10th, 2017. This was the day of my father’s funeral. Hard to swallow on this. When my family arrived at the church, we had to set up some pictures and a portrait of him when he was in the military. Also displayed a booklet of some of his best projects he done over the years. We had a short visitation when the guests were coming in as well as my cousins and aunts from my Dad’s side came in to greet my mother and I. My former pastor, a Vietnam Veteran himself came along with his wife for support. Before the last 10 minutes were up, my mother got emotional knowing that this was the last time we see Dad. And as we approached the casket for the last time at the church, we said our goodbyes, our thank yous,  and I promised to make sure that my mother and sister will be safe. And I have his back. My final promise to him is my solemn vow that I had to be that next person to support.

As the service continued, there had been many references that were summarized. A representative from the North Shore Post Office, was the first to speak and remininced about my father’s work, involvement with food drives, his relationship among workers, and of course his Corvette. My former pastor talked about his viewpoint in terms of war stories, and similar issues dealing with knee problems! My younger cousin (a millennial mind you) was the next to summarize our family and the sympathies to support. Finally my Aunt had to pitch in for my sister, but the poem she read, was titled: “My Daddy”.

My Daddy
I sit and look back to how far I can remember,
And you are always there next to me.
Each and Everyday you were helping me to grow up,
And making me be the best that I can be.

Your love was forever strong,
Your cuddles forever tight.
Everyday since I was born,
Your love was always in sight.

I will always be your Baby Girl,
And you will always be My Daddy.
I know I will always be the luckiest,
To have the best Dad any girl could have had.

My Daddy I love you with all my heart,
Much more than I could ever say.
You are my world, my everything,
Each and Everyday.
Written by Ranja Kujala July, 2009

The similarity with the poem, also resonates the feeling that my sister got word of losing Dad. We know the connections between Fathers and Daughters are inseparable. Very different from my father and son talks. No matter the pain or feeling, it was all around. And love for my father was deeply felt.

The eulogy of my father talked about forgiveness, love for one another, and a subject called “unfinished business.” The pastor highlighted the room that he saw my father that featured his easel of an oil drawing from 1991, and of course his video collections on the wall with a Wide Screen TV (BIG) in the center. The pastor also commented about a staircase, in which his spirit and Jesus would meet. At the end of the service, we gathered our things as we exited the church. But here was the shocker. When we were in the line to leave, we saw more folks packing the church as if it was like, how this happened?! First it was small, then it was large. And yes, there were members of the clergy mostly ministers who knew my Dad came out for the support. Talk about leaving a mark.

We headed to the limos and made a hour trek to the cemetery in Union Grove, Wisconsin. As we gathered in the area to meet up, we were greeted by the cemetery staff and leaders to go over my Dad’s gravemarker, featuring quotes and a symbol of the United Methodist Church. Then after we (my mother and I) went over the committal portion to summarize how it will go in the almost 6 minute session. From the music of the Army Song, the honor guard saluting the casket on both sides, the Marine Veterans on the outside in formation of the 21 gun salute and the Folding of the flag. Plus the bullets and coin were handed to my mother.

For The Committal portion, review the entire video below courtesy of my recording.

I had to say that the Committal was the highlight of my Dad’s service. This made me realize I am even more proud to be a Veteran’s Son! Being a Veteran’s Son is not some made up badge overnight. It’s a way of life to actively say that I salute his service, and will continue to tell the stories that will live on in me. It’s not just a catch-phrase, that is a promise! Nevermind all the negative hoopla about war, viewpoints and politics. Even bold consciousness. I’m proud of the fact that my father did that by serving. I respect him for that and yes there will  be more my Veteran support in my house! No I didn’t serve, (don’t hate me on that), but I’m just darn proud that his decorated standard was just that: Good! Mostly with family members that had indeed served! Yes, my father served in an unpopular war in Vietnam, and mentioning to my mother way back that when we came back home to the States, he said “that the world turned dark.” I remember him saying that there was no recognition for Vietnam Vets like him that never got the welcome thing like the military has now. Of course NOW, they are getting their respect years later. But why not then! One of job duties was a Helicopter Gunner, and one of his accommodations was the Bronze Star Medal.

As the service ended, we exited the chapel with the honor guards saluting us. Plus one of the Marine Veterans whom did the 21 gun salute, greeted my mother and I. Even though the Marine Veteran didn’t knew my father, he commented that “It was an honor for me to this.” That was real talk. Even though, he was an older caucasian man, but he did that for a black Vietnam Veteran that was honored for his service as a SP5. On the way back to the church for the repast, I had to put on my music on my cell phone. I chose the music to play of “Nighshift” by The Commordores in which was one of my Dad’s favorites.  Another was “I’ll Be Rested” by Mavis Staples, and plus a Nina Simone favorite, of “I Shall Be Released.” That song of course was a highlight favorite from watching Scandal.

The Lessons and Aftermath

In the later days, we still had our ups and downs, some things have become a little harder with now the three of us running the show. And I’m the man of the house now. But knowing the supporting cast has been uplfifted, and new standards have been updated with new accountabilty. Make no mistake, my family, my McClinton Family is still alive. We are still here. And yes that even though that our 10 members that are no longer here, wtih my father being the last one, we (the next era in the family) must do is what I said to my mother: we have to stay in the fight. And like in scripture: So it was written. So it shall be done.

Were holding on and still in the struggle.

I did this last year in Black History Month. And it’s back again. So yep, it’s time to scratch the noggin and actually boil the questions. Oh yes, we know we’re in the era of that dude named Trump, and many of us might loose our minds. So now I ask, what’s next for the future of Black History Month? And many of us have been spoiled that it’s supposed to be everyday, but hardly: we black folks DON’T acknowledge our history EVERYDAY! WE DON’T. Yeah, we can do this after March and get all charged up, but might ask where was the energy during February? Hmm……It’s the same ole thing we encounter every time.

Are we still believing this statement? Be honest.

Why are those saying that it’s “National African-American History Month”, than “Black History Month?” Black History Month is now global, not just for the United States.

Is the whole thing about the 45th President saying that the word “black” is outdated true? Last I checked: BLACK is BLACK!

Someone stop me: when we black folks say we celebrate our people everyday or I’m black everyday, are we meaning this or just saying to get the monkeys off the back? Just be honest!

Someone stop me again: are we really teaching our children more about black history everyday? Be honest.

I asked this last year many times: Have you missed Obama?

Is Donald Trump really supporting black folks? Or should I say, those whom are on his side are black?

When was the last time that many took their kids to see a tomb of a famous African-American Figure than to see a  pair of Air Jordans at the mall?

When was the last time that many saw a famous African-American figure that was still dropping knowledge and took the kids?

How many more of the New England Patriots whom are black will not attend the White House?

Dang MSNBC! Why did you kicked off Tamron Hall?!

Is it just me, or is America wants to be driven by those in office whom do not have experience or just being dumb?

You do know that 2017 is a voting year, right?

Is the black media still on point?

16406626_1414302608601739_7018304325085837033_n

I’m surprised that many in America didn’t know who James White was after the Patriots won the Super Bowl. Um, did anyone checked the Wisconsin Badgers for Reference?

How hard will “The Quad” on BET will go?

Is it just me, or what has gotten into BET with the added cussing in movies?

Had everyone seen Hidden Figures? Not Hidden Colors. HIDDEN FIGURES!

Should AFROPUNK make a Milwaukee Visit? Take my money.

When will President Obama release his memoir? If that happens TAKE MY MONEY!

Black Businesses: are you holding up well?

Was Maxwell out of bounds for his remarks about including whites for Black History Month?

Did The New Edition Story on BET really sparked new ideas for biopics?

Should all of the black Alumni of High Schools or Colleges rock dashikis for Black History Month? Primarily with the school colors we know?

Who still reads books? Mainly African-American Novels?

For my Black Introverts, are we good? Are we are still holding up to resist?

This year in Music Anniversaries: 30 years of Jody Watley’s Real Love, Whitney Houston’s I wanna dance with somebody under the self titled Album, Whitney. Kool Moe Dee’s How You Like Me Now made the cut, NWA and the Posse made it’s debut by the group itself. Even Michael Jackson’s Bad was good.

25 years of R.Kelly & The Public Announcement’s She’s Got That Vibe and Honey Love. Sir Mix-A-Lot’s Baby Got Back. EnVogue’s Funky Divas of Free Your Mind, Giving Him Something He Can Feel, My Lovin’and Give it up Turn it loose. Mary J. Blige’s What the 411? Whitney Houston and The Bodyguard Soundtrack.  Boyz II Men (ALL FOUR OF THEM) serenade the women with the single, End of the Road. Also, Prince with the Love Symbol Album premiered,  and Bobby Brown had the joint Bobby out with Humpin’ Around as a hot single. Just to name a few.

20 years of Missy Elliott’s Supa Dupa Fly, Puff Daddy and Family’s No Way Out, Aaliyah had The One I gave my heart to and Hot Like Fire, Timbaland/Magoo debuted Welcome to our World, Will Smith was back with Big Willie Style, The Notorious BIG’s last album before his death: Life after Death, and Michael Jackson had the album out called “Blood on the Dance Floor.” Just to name a few.

15 years ago: Ashanti and Tweet both debuted with their albums, Musiq Soulchild had “Juslisen”, Meshell Ndegeocello had the album, Cookie: The Anthropological Mixtape.  Plus Donell Jones had the joint Life Goes On, Will Smith was Born to Reign, Nelly had the joint Nellyville, Sean Paul had the Dutty Rock thing going, LL Cool J: 10,  Deborah Cox (one of my favorite black Canadian exports) had the album out called The Morning After, and Missy Elliott took us back in time with old school hip hop beats in Under Construction. Just to name a few.

And  10 years of Angie Stone’s The Art of War. Plus Timbaland took us a Shock Value favor with Keri Hilson singing hooks. What music are you celebrating….IN BLACK HISTORY MONTH?

This year in Movie Anniversaries: 10 years of I am Legend, Why Did I Get Married? and Black Snake Moan. 20 years of Men in Black, Soul Food, and Amistad. 25 years of Class Act, Mo’ Money, Bebe’s Kids, Diggstown, Malcolm X, and Trespass. 30 years of Beverly Hills Cop II, Leonard Part 6, Sign ‘o’ The Times, and Shaka Zulu.  What flicks are you celebrating….IN BLACK HISTORY MONTH?

This year in TV Shows that are Anniversary material: Martin. 25 years since WZUP, Martin Love the kids, get the steppin’, and many of the quotes that we know it like that. Also, Living Single debuted in the same year also of 1992. Plus, The Cosby Show ended the 8 year reign the same year.  Easy question: What shows are you celebrating in Black History Month?

Is Tyler Perry’s The Haves and The Have Nots show still rolling with new ideas?

Will TVONE continue to roll hard with shows and news?

We keep talking about the firsts in Black History. Who’s next?

I’m not easily fooled by the phrases, Black Future Month, or Black Conscious Month. Nope. Wanna know why?

I’m not easily fooled by this notion of blacks not referencing the ideals that Africans were sold by their own and America ate up the idea of slavery commodity. Wanna know why? (Hint: Part of it is the truth whether we like it or not.)

When will all schools acknowledge Black History? Not just in the cities.

When all those who hate the idea of Black History Month actually stop hating?!

When will all those who don’t like the thought of having a Black History Month actually read what Dr. Carter Woodson wrote about the miseducation portion of us not knowing our history?

And yet again, how will all of this be worthy for our children, especially our black children that need to know this? Not just in school, but in the homes, and certainly in other areas like the church and community centers?

I learned black history in the house, school, and church!

So, Happy Black History Month! or #HapppyBHM2017 whatever many prefer.

Oh did you see the TV?

The 58th Inauguration of the new Administration has passed to you know who, which looked like a ghost town in Washington. But yesterday after looking at the remains, the Women’s March was like a new Tornado that swept in the bare spots that were heavily empty. I mean it was a jam packed wall to wall March and protest. In Washington, it was close to over 500,000 plus that shut the city down! Washington wasn’t the only city: New York City, LA, Seattle, Indianapolis, Chicago, Milwaukee, Boise, and Madison all had these demonstrations. Even London, Sydney, and not really thought about: Antarctica! Yes even Antarctica was in this demonstration as well.

Yeah, the March was cool. All the females from Gloria Steinem, to Janelle Monae, the Mothers of the Movement, Alicia Keys, which featured Maria Hamilton, mother of Dontre Hamilton was killed at Red Arrow Park in Milwaukee in 2014. Even men like Michael Moore, Jidenna, and Maxwell all appeared.

Like I said: that was a jammed packed event not only for empowerment, but also directed at one man: Donald Trump. The same Donald Trump whom back in 2005 had the quote “grabbing them by the p*ssy” on a well known daily entertainment TALK SHOW of Access Hollywood! And many of the females at the time had on the same shirts or jeans with messages about “Donald can grab my ****** anytime.” REALLY!  Talk about Locker Room conversations. But many might know that it wasn’t all those who said it.

The turn up for the march of course went high of course. But online, the turn down of the march: MEN. As I was viewing the live feeds of the march on Facebook Live, there were men of course that were talking smack if you will about the march, there’s going to be a whole lot of sandwiches missing, back in the kitchen talk, or um some black dude on a black TV host Facebook page saying it should be stopped, and bringing up about America’s problems of overseas. WHAT!!!!

OK MEN: Settle down. It wasn’t our march. It didn’t address our concerns. And if I wanted a freaking sandwich, I’ll get it myself. Men: I’m sure we had our hatefest about this march of women hearing them roar.

But my question is: when are WE AS MEN are going to have our own march? Like for real.

When are we going to march about our concerns of immigration?

When are we going to march about our concerns of jobs and careers?

When are we going to march about our concerns of finance?

When are we going to march about our concerns of health – OOPS!  Many of us are scared about going to the freaking doctor to get checked, and having the females to take over. Really? We got reproductive things too!

When are we going to march about our concerns about VOTING RIGHTS and CIVIL RIGHTS?

When are we going to march about our concerns about our Fathers, Sons, Uncles, Nephews, Grandfathers, Male Mentors that need those connections to bond? SPECIFICALLY, BLACK MEN!

CALLOUT: Hey Fraternities: All of you. BGLO (Alpha Phi Alpha, Kappa Alpha Psi, Phi Beta Sigma, Omega Psi Phi, and Iota Phi Theta), Service, and many others. What are you doing to reach out to Men, especially young males in your communities? What are you doing also to reach out to men that want to join your frats for life that want to help your cause? Not just the young crowds, but also the SEASONED VETS?

When are we going to march about our concerns about housing?

What about the MALE concerns of education? Besides that High School Diploma, job and not actually going further. Specifically with our sons, and other male relatives? Is college on the mind also?

When are we going to march about our concerns about: racism, sexism, body shaming (heck we body shame like crazy everyday), gun violence, the phobias of transgender, homosexuality, bullying in all angles, etc. Being single. Even Introverts, Ambiverts, Extroverts? Oh I know what it is: “We men don’t get all sensitive. Don’t bring that up to make us look weak.” Hate to say it, but it’s all ready out there. Females, stop laughing.  And don’t go all MLK and the dream with that one line!

When are we going to march for our OWN male needs? No disrespect to the women whom feel that the equal thing should be on the table, but the fact of the matter is, when I see all these women’s meetings and seminars, or events, where are the Men’s meetings? For example: in the church there are more reps for females than males. There are female meetings but not male meetings. There are females in the church per se whom support the church in sense of programs and events, but the men don’t. Except when the men might have a their own fundraiser and a day on Father’s Day to set aside to support.

I ASK AGAIN: WHEN ARE WE: THE MEN ARE GOING TO MARCH FOR OUR CONCERNS?

If many of the Men, whom were watching the Women’s March in DC or in their Cities, did anyone of male folk actually steal some ideas?

Men, we need to get to work. Straight up. Enough about us on the things that we can’t touch, but what about the things that the women can’t touch, but we can to propel our concerns? Hmmm………..think about it.

And also: Educated!

keep-calm-its-sagittarius-season-3

Keep calm it’s Sagittarius Season

Well readers: I’m in the 40’s club. This is the first blog post for me as a now 40 year old man living in Milwaukee. After all, just now turning forty years old seemed strange, but I knew it was coming. Like really coming.

SO: WELCOME to the 2016 Sagittarius Check-In!

For all of the Sagittarius folks whom had and are celebrating birthdays, like me Happy Birthday. We sags do indeed know how to turn up!

The Glyphs are out with the bows and arrows and when those try to throw us off our game, WE BOUNCE BACK! That’s what we do!  No other zodiac I know probably doesn’t do that! We got the half and half thing working so let’s get it going before those Capricorns do justice. Oh by the way, I know many might ask what’s up with the other zodiac check ins, why always Sagittarius. Look, if I was a freaking Gemini or Leo or Aries, or Aquarius, or whatever, I’ll be jacked up for one of those. But, since I am an Archer, or that Centaur, (not to discredit the others) its about the love of the Sag folks.

For those of us that are having a ball, let’s keep it up. Yeah, I know that the others are having that task at hand, but I have to say again, that it’s a constant reminder that us Sag folk need to keep that balance. Period. It’s in our “horselike philosophical” stance that we need to keep up the momentum in the long run.

For those of us having those milestone moments: ITS OUR YEAR!

It’s our year that we are going to the next level. A next level of decade living. We all have to be onguard in which the concerns of our health, finance, stability of objections and also relationships stay intact. Now I would say this that if there are those in your Social Media list that is always getting you to smile, and you feel so jovial in your heart (jovial is a keyword) STAY JOVIAL. As an introvert, this who making you smile thing from other folks in my opinion is not that serious. Almost like getting you to talk like the next guy down the street. Don’t let NO ONE steal your joy. I don’t care if it’s some older woman or man that knew you from the womb or the whatever: don’t let nobody steal your joy! If your joy is to have a cool Happy Birthday for your Milestone year, don’t let them steal it! Many of us have worked hard, or been though hard times just to get have ONE DAY OF JOY! Many of you church folks should realize that! Because many of you keep preaching it like every Sunday. I hear that! And someone also tells you to smile. Let me say this: We’ll “smile” when we’re doing something right and I speak for us whom are Sagittarians and Introverts. You non-Sagittarius folks must understand that many of us aren’t like you. As a matter fact, many of us aren’t like you in ways of reacting like saying Good Morning, How are you doing, That’s fine, how’s the family, how are the kids, how is job going, or many many  others. I’m like, give us the room to breathe! DANG! Note to everyone else: If and or when your birthdays come, you can do whatever you want. I don’t care! BUT this is the Sagittarius’ turn. And the bows and arrows are still flying in full force with FIRE! Let us have this ONE DAY OF JOY or ONE SEASON BEING JOVIAL to collect ourselves, and go back to kick butt. And even though we respect the opinion of others, don’t forget Sagittarians, this is OUR TIME!

Happy Birthday Sagittarius!:

Well speaking of milestones and being jovial. This #milestone40 thing had be on the pulse to realize that it’s still time to grow. Time to breathe. Time to relax. And also time to unwind a bit to huddle up in the locker room with the plans in hand for the game and just win the trophy. I had to realize that this week when my 30’s were ending, and the 40 age was just getting started. I realized that last year it got me the most like “dang, it’s the last of my 30’s.” But when 12:10 am struck on December 5th happened and as the switch from one age to another happened, it wasn’t a fake image. It was real. The reality actually did happen.

So now I’m in the age bracket in which the Fabulous 40’s are taking place. Now since I got here, it’s time to survive! Many of us in our 40’s as we know are going to be more challenged to be more healthy (colon stuff, awareness of prostate and ovarians), more financially stable, and etc. They say that when your are in your 40’s, you’re more like an adult even more than your 30’s and 20’s. And late teens. Plus also the 40’s I hear it’s all about gain more control. I hope it’s true, because there are things in my life that need more control very sharply!

However, as much as scary as the 40’s might be, just remember that other age brackets can be scary also. But we have to be so watchful! Especially in this 21st Century.

But look on the bright side, for those of us whom are 1976 Born: we are celebrating not only our birthdays, but we are celebrating life. We are celebrating us being the Sagittarians we normally are. Nevermind the what folks say what Sagittarians SHOULD be about. Let’s show them what being a Sagittarius is all about! Let’s show them that even though we can name the famous folks who share the same Glyph, we need to express the mindset and value that we have going EVERYDAY!

Plus I need to get this out. We got violence. We got assaults. We got all those problems that make us wanna go and move. We need to understand yet again, especially in this holiday season of Advent, yes problems will occur. But we can still celebrate!

That is what we need to do. That is what must be done!

So fellow Sagittarians, we are still alive! We are still in the hunt everyday to get what we want in life. It’s not just symbols or what type of sex life per say that we should have. It’s real now that we need to just do it. EVERYTIME! Keep the bows and arrows up. No matter what.

And for us Bicentennial Sags who just turned the 40 age: #40UP! Now and for life!

There’s a need for speed as you race through your day, solving problems as you go. Issues might unexpectedly arrive this afternoon when impatient Mars runs into the eccentric Aquarius Moon, but this could serve as just the lightning bolt needed to take a brilliant idea to the next level. Resistance doesn’t always slow you down; sometimes conflict resolution acts as a propelling force. Rather than ignoring the reality of the situation, save the day by finding an innovative solution as soon as you can.  – Tarot.com; December 5th, 2016

I’m just going to let loose. This is the last “Scratching my head all this time” thing. Actually its the last story in my 30’s. But don’t worry since this is the 12th month and the birthday is on December 5th, yes I’m going to keep writing when the 40’s happen and yes there will be a SPECIAL Sagittarius Check in for all of us Sags born between November 22nd and December 21st. So with that, I’m cutting to the chase right now!

Since when did the real racists have a say when Donald Trump became president?

Have many stopped sleeping on the Wisconsin Badgers Football Squad? Oh, yes they lost to Michigan and Ohio State, but guess what Michigan fans, no disrespect, but your squad got beat by IOWA! And you’re crying about a tiebreaker with Jim Harbaugh’s rants about refs. Hold up, he needs to look in the mirror when his then-49ers torched the Packers with crooked zebras!

Can the Packers really “Run the Tables” in another attempt to get to the playoffs? Run the Tables, Relax and Chill fellow cheeseheads. #GoPackGo

If the Badgers win the B1G Championship over Penn State, is there a STRONGER WAY to get to the Rose Bowl and actually WIN IT?

Is 40 the new 20 like many said?

Hey Sagittarians: It’s still our season. Are we having fun or what?

Now Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke might be a potential pick for Trump’s Homeland Security Position. BUT you know that he had folks die in jail without water this year, right?

Milwaukee is now a Blue City in a RED STATE. How will this workout, as if many times before?

Remember when Colin Kaepernick was kneeling  during the Anthem? Why didn’t he vote?

Why is it that the NES Classic Edition is so hard to find AT WALMART? But when you go to Gamestop and try to buy it for $80.00. REALLY?!!

Is Amazon Fire Stick TV really the business?

Last year, the Coloring Books for us grown folks were a hot seller. What’s next to come back for the Christmas season for the grown and mature? And it’s not just the VR machines.

This year, we all heard about DirecTV Now. 100+ Channels for 35 bucks. Now here is my question: Can us on the DirecTV thing who are sick and tired of paying about $100.00+ per month can actually be traded to pay something less cheaper with the new DirecTV Now?

Did anyone actually were thankful by reading my Be Thankful blog for Thanksgiving?

Here’s something to scratch on: What about those who say don’t buy anything during the holidays, but those who will buy the items anyway?

Yes I agree that Black Dollars Matter. Which really it does. But whom is having a hard time understanding that?

This past Tuesday was Giving Tuesday. Who donated to their Alumni Groups?

What is the biggest stigma of misunderstanding of when turning 40?

OK I have to scratch this one: Many are saying that Luke Cage, Sons of Anarchy or others are better than Empire. Look I can respect everyone’s opinions, but what’s better than Luke Cage or Sons of Anarchy? Monday Night Raw?! Black-ish? I have to say this: the next couple of shows coming out, will be better than Luke Cage or them other shows. Mark my words.

What about them Milwaukee Bucks so far? Don’t sleep!

You know that the Nintendo Switch is coming out like next spring, right?

We got those lists coming out for 2017. Are we going to follow it?

Who is really hooked on those Hallmark Christmas shows right now? Come on now, please confess to Father Stephen! Admit your confession!

Will this year be the best Christmas ever? Since Obama is leaving office next month.

Speaking of that: Will you really miss Obama?

What will be your BEST and WORST of 2016?

Have the Introverts really got respect?

Why has 2016 had NO CHILL when famous most recently have passed on?

Who was the real deal in Milwaukee this year? No I’m not picking Sheriff David Clarke.

Who was the real deal in Wisconsin this year? Nope sorry Scott Walker!

Since Christmas is coming as usual: Who is the real Scrooge you know that needs a butt kicking right now?! Go get those three spirits.

Since 2016 had no chill, what about the unemployment and the underemployed of black men and women had NO CHILL all along?

Since 2016 had NO CHILL: has anyone caught those who murdered that college student near my Alma Mater of UW-Stout?

Since 2016 had NO CHILL: what about the still health concerns about black folks?

Since 2016 had NO CHILL: What is the deal of the same ol’ tired stigmas about black on black crime that the “you know whos” had to bring up when police shootings happen?

Since 2016 had NO CHILL: what was up with cultural black organizations had to shut down due to funding in America?

Since 2016 had NO CHILL: Why did those who say they were for Hillary, but were backing Donald Trump?

Since 2016 had NO CHILL: who is really having a hard time finding work? Especially in Milwaukee?

Since 2016 had NO CHILL: Why there are those who feel that ALL CHURCHES are about money?

Since 2016 had NO CHILL: Who is the biggest hypocrite? Those whom do church, or the job, or the streetfolks?

Since 2016 had NO CHILL: what will the black folks who voted for Donald Trump will actually get in his 100 days in office, or 4 years? Not much!

Since 2016 had NO CHILL: Why is Wisconsin’s rural areas have the stigmas about city folks?

Do you realize that leaving one place to another might have implications of seeing the same old racism yet again?

Most of us are still reeling from this so-called election where hardly no one voted up enough. Who is really at fault for NOT VOTING? And will this not carry over in 2018?

Speaking of 2018, will this be the last year of Sheriff David Clarke and Scott Walker?

AND the last question before I turn 40: Will you or might you believe that anything is possible to go hard even further?  Despite anything?

Bonus Question: Should the blogging I do should be added to the Milwaukee category on WordPress? I looked at that and it’s completely DRY!

There will be more coming out.

Everyone knows how this goes. And it’s real simple. No need to link or google or even #Hashtag. Today, many around the country and in household or other areas, we Americans will be celebrating that holiday of food called Thanksgiving. From the Parades, to the NFL Games or other new traditional ideas that will boost the food day. And yes, there will be us going out to the clubs and shaking off the pounds to get loose for Christmas.

And yes, there will be constant reminders of the horrors that our Native American brothers and sisters will not participate in this Thanksgiving Day due to the killing of their ancestors outside of a church on a Sunday morning many moons ago. Henceforth, The National Day of Mourning.

For my Sagittarian readers: guess what? It’s our season. Are we thankful? (SAGS RULE!)

And finally: If I missed anything that many have thought about, and it’s good: we all should be and forever so thankful that we must march on. Like they say at the black funerals: It’s already been said.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I just had to do this. With all the elements of what’s going on, I’m putting out a scratching my head post, which is the current edition. Even though it’s post 4th of July in all, I’m going ahead with this.

Why can’t all cops be like Nakia Jones ?

Yes its true, blacks were slaves during July 4th 1776. But you know there were those unsung that wanted to get away in order to fight to get their freedom papers right?
Where are the real black patriots whom have “black patriotism for country and world” and being black at the same darn time? Even being a real truth teller? And black conscious? And unapologetic?

Why there are some African-Americans whom look at the American Flag being “racist?”

When it comes to the issues, what is up being one sided? And you know what I’m talking about!

Is Wendy Williams that ignorant about the HBCU’s?

I know many had to go hard on Jesse Williams and his speech at the BET Awards. Had the haters sat down yet?

Will the church pastors talk about the recent events of the shootings? Even afterwards?

Have anyone, just anyone followed “my rules” for Summerfest 2016?

Summerfest 2017 will be so golden that they have invite all those that used to work there. Should they do that?

While many are continuing support for the slain officers in Dallas, Texas; many are still have not forgotten about Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. And will be funeralized this week. Does anyone see the pattern here?

You know that the Wisconsin State Fair got next, right?

For you bogus Credit Card pushers, why are you scamming folks?

Man listen: why folks on Youtube have to test Dick Gregory?

Question:why so many folks and you know them, post stuff on Social Media and most they think its true? KNOWINGLY some of that is FALSE!

Black folks: you know you could celebrate Juneteenth Day and the Fourth of July if you like, right?

What is the real concern about those asking about church folks who worship on Sundays, and then go out to eat at Red Lobster, a small family restaurant? What is wrong with that?

Scenario: You hate church. You can’t stand the preaching or the money. And go full postal on social media. Why can’t you go in person say what you got to say to the Pastor and the Church? Are you THAT scared?! That naive?! I dare you to try.

Is the Zika Virus that real serious?

Seriously, can someone school Sheriff David Clarke about this rant about Black Lives Matter? And no mention about the KKK. Shameful! Milwaukee, we are embarrassed by his half carcassed commentary.

Do many still fear Intelligent Black Men that want to do good, or many think that they’re all in one lump sum group that they are all the same as the bad folks?

Yo: what is up with the Jobs section in the Sunday Milwaukee Journal Sentinel being thin? I remember when it was thick!

Milwaukee Suburbans who hate the city: yet you hate Milwaukee, but post negative memes about the city and you don’t live there. EXPLAIN?

Will there be a Hits 3 and Hits 4 out of the vault of Prince?

United Methodists: does the BMCR still count?

Why those that used to go to church or never set foot in a church thinks that “all christians”are the same hypocritically, in which they are not? Almost many think that black people think the same, which is not new but a myth.

Why do folks on Social Media AT TIMES say they hate Church, but then turn around that they  comment:”you can go to any church you wish?” #VERYCONFUSED

They say violence is the same but the cameras are new. Agree?

Is it just me, or has this Summer season really flown by so fast?

Oh, Cleveland: are you really happy you got a title after a 50 year drought?

Why is Azealia Banks is still talking? Has she NOT learned her Twitter lesson?  GO SIT DOWN IN YOUR ROOM, LITTLE GIRL!

For all these younger conservatives like Tomi Lahren: Can you all go in the room in sit down after commenting about things you have no knowledge about? Black Panthers, etc.

Man, some of you officers need to turn in your badges and guns for all that mess about your KKK alignments. Can we have more officers like Nakia Jones who is so deep?

Think about this: Can us African-Americans wear the American Flag in our cause for Black Lives, and against the discriminations of us being black period?

Do we still think this example from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is a reality like right now?

Did the Second Independence Day Movie lived up to the hype?

Will Team USA be having an “American Summer” in Rio?

Americans: If you really think that Black Lives Matter thing is a terrorist group, you must be on that haterade. Why?

Huff Black Voices called out the so-called #AllLivesMatter mantra. #AllLivesDidntMatter. They did it 21 times. I’ve been saying and questioning: If All Lives Really Matter, Ask yourself why. Ask why, how, who, what, when, and where. Can those do that? Put up or shut up! #IfAllLivesReallyMatter

Does Laser Bond USA really work?

Ladies: I know this Irvin man or #MrStealYourGrandma is going on right now, but what happens when men look at #MsStealYourGrandpa?

And the last question: And this is for Milwaukee: La La Brown and Kool Aid’s Killer is in custody. A possible lead is finally in play for Alexis Patterson. Is there a way to heal?

BONUS QUESTION: For all the folks who fly American Flags, or White Folks whom Fly the flag the most. One my local black radio stations WNOV in Milwaukee had a statement of flying the flag in regarding black folks. Can you GIVE A REASON why African-Americans (for those whom are still on the RGB tip and conscious and others) should fly the flag? On a shirt, lapel or houses.Break it down for us. And think before you answer. Yes, we are Americans. But provide this answer!

Guess what? I’m back. Had to take a blogging break. But just in time before Mother’s Day. Now for every mother in the building have a great Mother’s Day. But before that happens, I’m about to scratch my head again of the most recent events.

If all lives really matter, again what is up with the still hate of Black Citizens?

I heard that a member of the US Navy passed. And I’ll bet many have to bust out saying “I’ll honor him than some Entertainment dude.” Really?!

Still can’t stand the hypocrites in church huh? Do those have hypocrites in the workplaces also? I’ll wait. Especially if you are on Facebook or Instagram talking comments.

I’m still trying to wrap my head around “fat shaming”. Like it’s a new phrase. Have we always been fat shaming folks? Stop me if you hear “yo mama is so fat”…. Hello?

Note to Adele: we know the love, but you know that Beyonce is not Jesus Christ, right?

So Donald Trump is the main Republican Representative. What’s the move Democrats? Hillary or Bernie?

It’s stupid. Those that hated Prince for years are now liking him. Like Michael and Whitney, where was the likes when they were alive?

Is Milwaukee ready for the new reincarnation of getting things done?

Now since the spring election is over in Milwaukee, can I please ask why former Alderman Joe Davis had to endorse Bob Donovan?!

“We built this city.” Why that for an Milwaukee Election?

On the radio in Black Milwaukee: Wheaton Franciscan has a 30 second radio spot: “Get a Doc”. All jazzy in the background. My question is to say does everyone really know?

Is America really that great, that can be great again?

I see those I love Mom pics. Will the I love Dad pics show up for Father’s Day?

Man listen: why do folks hate birthdays being celebrated?

So Scott Walker wants us Wisconsin folks to take a drug test while collecting unemployment. Are you the “not going to vote” folks that blind?

Class of 2016: are you ready?

Dang what is up with these folks still trying to get folks hooked up in the wrong places?!

Can the Singles have a day or Month without all the marriage hassle?

Can Milwaukee have real meaningful jobs like of Chicago, DC, New York, LA, San Francisco, Silicon Valley, NASA, or Facebook?

Is Big Mama still alive? Or has this Generation killed her?

Should all Universities have African-American Alumni groups?

No offense, but why is Mother’s Day is slightly higher than Father’s Day?

Is the workplaces as well as highly Extroverted groups ready for Introverts?

We know the Milwaukee Streetcar is coming. Yes! Can the state at least review why the high speed rail really was scrapped again? Hint: Racism was in play.

One last thing: Why are folks calling this racist? Seriously?

image

Let me just have one comment on this. For all of those so-called patriotic Americans who feel that there is no Racism or “All Lives Matter” or feel that when Black Folks are celebrated, they get mad and protest after feeling offended by black fists in the air? I had a cousin that was a Vietnam Veteran and he had a fist in the air! He is deceased now. But look: with all due respect to the uniform regulations which I understand, but this is not politics West Point! And I speak as a son of a West Point Graduate that went into the Army and served in the Vietnam War! Don’t play me!

Other than that, enjoy your day Mothers.

Man, I don’t know where I begin with this. We are all or most of us are shocked to hear about the recent passing of Prince Rogers Nelson. Minnesota Born. Midwestern Born. Made a lot of hits. Albums. Started careers of Vanity 6, Apollonia 6, Morris Day, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Liv Warfield, 3rdEyedGirl, Collaborated with the Minneapolis Sound, a Superbowl halftime show, and a host of others that this native of the Midwest has came to be.

We all know that he had those hits. Many of us had to go back into the crates, vaults, playlists, CD’s, Tapes, Records before they came out again, to hear the songs that made us definitely went crazy! From “Pop Life, to HardRockLover” and in between he made those songs stick.

image

Growning up in Milwaukee, we used to have this radio station of Hot 102. And at the time, the songs of Prince, Michael Jackson, and a host of others would come on. They were in rotation at the time being the best out. Millennials, pay attention! This was way before CD’s MP3’s and Social Media all came about. And just to add, the station as I write was playing the best hits online via Hot102 Online on the TuneIn Radio App.

Also, MTV (remember them playing videos?) BET, Centric even TVOne’s NewsOneNow all paying tribute to Prince. Radio stations here in Milwaukee, from Jammin’ 98.3 and V100 all playing Prince songs in honor of his memory.

Now many of my Generation X had to ask or ponder: Who was better: Prince or Michael? You older Gens and Younger gens probably had no clue on this. As kids growing up in the 80’s, we had this “poll” about who was the best between Prince and Michael. Never mind the music or fashion. We were just young. Period. It was like a game. But now since Michael and recently Prince have passed, well the question still remains. We know now that they were great artists. Great humanitarians and also great contributors to causes. And Civil Rights. And yes, they were Jehovah Witnesses growing up. Similar to Michael Jackson, Prince believe it or not was an Introvert. His category was a ISFP. We know he kept things of his image being well guarded.

I didn’t attend any of his concerts (shame on me!), but however Purple Rain and Under The Cherry Moon with Graffiti Bridge were stand outs. Plus his Rave Un2 the year 2000 Concert was all his collaborations with Morris Day, Lenny Kravitz, Larry Graham, and a host of others were outstanding! If you have not seen this concert, go get the DVD! Plus we (my family) had to stay in on New Year’s Eve though.

We know the hits.

We know the hits.

We got them.

Even some that were deemed controversial. But he pushed the envelope and raised the bar! We know about “When Doves Cry”, “Pop Life”, “1999”, “Adore”, “Gett Off”, “Let’s Go Crazy” and “Little Red Corvette.” And the hit that probably has everyone singing in church or will in church, “Purple Rain”. But yes he had countless others that were very known and undiscovered. It’s somewhat summarized that he even made private recordings that has not been heard. Ever.  Knowing Prince, in one sense with music, he stayed on the battlefield. Taking his level to another flight.

Now about this thing of him being all  this “unapologetic”.  I had to ask,why was he like that? Why was he was mostly explicit in his music?  What was up with the “slave” thing on his cheek? What was the use of him not putting his music vids on YouTube, knowing that it might be broken a new sense?

Here’s my take on this. Prince went against the grain of not trying to be a slave of anything that he does not want to be. Prince went against those who tried to drown him out but continued to push the envelope with the use of Freedom of Expression.

About the “slave” thing, it was a protest. A protest with his WB Records label that had a control on him. But he wanted to do things that he wanted to do and still make a point. Even artists before him went through the same thing. And weren’t as successful. Prince was ahead of the game making sure that he and those after him do not make that same fault.

We all know that yes, Prince was an artist that didn’t want no pics, no social media, but still that was slightly broken on his final concert in Atlanta.

In the days since his passing, the landmarks in Minnesota, Seattle, New York, Los Angeles, Paris, and other cities were lit up in the purple hue.  A United Methodist Church in Oklahoma had this sign to display:

If you haven’t read this, Prince had a connection my denomination of the UMC growing up in Minnesota.

On my Facebook wall, I made a statement about it for Milwaukee and well, here it is:

IMO: some of the #Milwaukee landmarks should be lit in purple hue for the #Prince tributes. Just a thought.

And guess what? It happened.
image

Even my hometown of Milwaukee was lit in purple. Our Airport’s MKE letters at General Mitchell were lit in the purple hue. Our Pfister Hotel in downtown Milwaukee, a legendary hotel was draped in the purple hue. One of our billboards on Milwaukee’s Southside was lettered in one of Prince’s lyrics from Purple Rain, courtesy of Lamar Advertising. And most recently, Summerfest was shown in the purple hue near the South Gate. This was the same Summerfest that Prince performed years ago. His last appearance was in 2004. So yes, Milwaukee  honored the legend, whom made stops for his concerts at the old MECCA Arena (now known as the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena), and of course Summerfest. Nice touch! Prince performed in Milwaukee in a total of 7 times. “7” as in one of his hit songs. Get it?

But also there have to be some commentary  hater yahoos who had to go in about the Hues, and not about the support of law enforcement or Military. I read them on Facebook, mainly with Milwaukeeans on a well known TV station page (ala  Fox 6), who had to rant.

CALLOUT: Will you fools shut up?!! It’s not about you!

If you are still whining about the Law folks, or Military Folks not being honored, in which ways you only see a few black folks not doing as much, there is a thing called writing a letter! Since the “MKE” letters are County Owned, and your so-called Tax Dollars paid for the letters, why don’t you write a letter to the STILL Milwaukee County Exec Chris Abele, and make a typed written letter. To hell with your Facebook Comments! Even some were almost racist. Oh, don’t get me started. You still like Prince right? Most  recently one of our Conservative reporters of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Christian Schneider had to go around and says “Nobody cares that you’re sad about Prince” in a slanderous opinion. This is the same dude that like to pander around the likes of Scott Walker and the rest of the Wisconsin Republicans that messed up the state since Walker took office. Don’t fool me! That article can miss me with all that BS! Go to Minnesota  and tell those to say nobody cares and they’ll give you a different response. Did I care that Justice Scalia died and after the BS he pulled on the Supreme Court in his prime under Obama? NOPE! Never liked the dude.

After all, we know that Prince was a native of Minnesota. I respect that. Also, I’m going to say that he was also a fellow member of the Midwestern Regional Family. We know the East Coast, West Coast, South, but yes we need a Midwest Family Group of well known folks that are musicians. From the well known legends to the yet to be’s that want a shot.

When anyone thinks of music in the Midwest: we know Detroit and history of Motown. Eminem, and Aretha Franklin. The State of Indiana with the Jacksons, and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. The state of Illinois with R. Kelly, Kanye, Liv Warfield, and Jody Watley. Minnesota, with Morris Day, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Prince, Bob Dylan and Mint Condition.

We in the Badger State got Al Jarreau, Tank, Skylar Grey, Danny Gokey,  Jidenna, Eric Benet, Naima Adedapo, Rico Love, The Core DJ’s and the Violent Femmes, whom had the honor in meeting Prince years back. Keep in mind, this is the well known artists that many should know from Wisconsin. And others like Nelly out of St. Louis.

So yes, the Midwest ain’t that bad when it comes to music making and innovation. And we shouldn’t be. Plus also I should say this, even though Prince made music for us world dwellers, he remained true to his Minnesota roots. Which kind of reminds me, I wonder if anyone from Wisconsin can learn that? With all this “I’m never going back to perform in Milwaukee” Stuff per se. We need this lesson, Milwaukee.

Already, it has been summarized that Prince’s Memorial Service had concluded, plus his body was cremated a day before. But don’t worry Purple Army Folks, we have seen Purple Rain at the theaters. And paid our $5.00 to get in for our nostalgic reasons. Plus some of us bought Purple Rain years ago, and still watch it on DVD. I was one of them that got the DVD from Walmart. Many of us will probably go back to the stores and by the music that we probably missed or just now getting. Even his last CD of HitNRun Phase Two.

Now I know that yes, everyone knows a Prince song. Sort of like when everyone knows a Whitney Houston song. But here something I know well, my top Prince songs:

When Doves Cry: This was the first video that started it all.

1999 – This was the second video. Back then this song was debuted in 1982. But about 17 years later, 1999 was a reality with the year, and this song was over played on radio and in person!

Controversy – Great Single.

Kiss – Straight from the Under the Cherry Moon Soundtrack.

Head – Don’t be shocked!

Little Red Corvette – Any with a Corvette could relate.

Batdance – Oh yes! This was the hype of the Movie to help support it!

Partyman – The thought of Jack Nicholson in the Joker face with the music in the background.

The Future – Another favorite from the Batman Soundtrack.

Lemon Crush – Don’t mean to say this, but this song had me hooked.

Electric Chair – This was another favorite with the Guitar Riffs in background

Gett Off – The thought of Prince and the MTV VMA’s from 1991 came to mind. Plus the video and single got airplay.

Diamonds and Pearls – Lots of the females probably got this on their playlists.

Let’s Go Crazy – I think this rings true. Still trying to get through this thing called life.

I Would Die 4 U/Take Me With U / Baby I’m A Star/Purple Rain ( the most favorite)- Good songs from the Purple Rain Movie.

D.M.S.R. -Straight from the 1999 Album. We should know.

Sexy Dancer – Um Kids, wait until U get grown!

Other favorites that got airplay: I Wanna Be Your Lover, Cream , U Got The Look and If I Was Your Girlfriend.

Oh  wait a second: Songs like Jam of the Year, Somebody’s Somebody, Facedown, Guitar, 3121, The Work pt. 1, My Name is Prince, Mr. Goodnight, Get on the Boat, and the most recent songs with 3rdEyedGirl: PLECTUMELECTRUM, Stop This Train, This Could B US, and just to name a few more. Even 200 Balloons. MANY HAVE SLEPT ON THESE!

There are more, but this is the set list for me if I were to DJ or just play music.

We all know Prince’s musical talents will live on. But here is something I needed to say and ask:  (in a scratching my head this whole time thing)

  • If Prince was such a bad person of a musician in a weird fashion, what was up with him being a brain child of #YESWECODE! Explain that?
  • About that song of BALTIMORE, explain and ask why this was?
  • And also: WHAT IS UP WITH ALL THIS “PRINCE HAD AIDS” CRAP?! Are we reading this garbage?! STOP IT!

Now I should add this that yes, Prince had talks about taking his talents elsewhere. BUT…….again he remained true to this Minnesota roots with staying with Minneapolis. You got alot of artists that go near and far in all, but SOME stay true to the home base. Prince remained true to his Minneapolis sound. Plus also, can the likes of Wisconsin per se learn to actually support the locals when it comes to music? We got this vibe that no one will come out and support our own. Maybe if the artists could change the language of their music, plus  pandering the music to in a respectful manner, then there wouldn’t be all this mess about “NO ONE FROM MILWAUKEE DON’T SUPPORT OUR MUSIC!” I’M MOVING TO ATLANTA! Do it the right way instead of the hateful way of being so snobbish! Yeah stop reaching! What if Atlanta don’t support a Milwaukee Talent?! Then what?!

So say what you want about Prince. Yes he was an introverted light skinned black dude that was a guitar hero/multi-talented musician. He also fought against those of the system that wanted to used his name, likeness, but wasn’t about to be controlled by the masses. He remained true of what he did in career and will be summarized in various ways. Of course many didn’t liked him. So what! He had the world’s attention and did his way. Even controlling his recordings and masters of his music that he made! Even if he had to convert to a religious angle to demonstrate his faith, he did that also. Plus he had to stop cussing in his music. But he was still Prince that brought the music! Even making themes for MSNBC’s Tamron Hall’s show. And giving a special show when Arsenio Hall had his show with the Minneapolis crew. I think he ranks up there with the likes of Michael Jackson, James Brown, Duke Ellington, Jimi Hendrix, B.B. King, and those whom were daring to dream but did it anyway. Even ranking with the Introverts whom have been misunderstood and still made a difference not just on stage, but also behind the scenes! All in his 57 years.

Let’s just hope that the next generation of the music players can learn from him. Not just about the music, but also about the other side of life. After all, we are all still trying to get through this thing called life!
