You may have seen this on Facebook. Or any other outlet. Many of us who have posted this stat are taking real stands of what we see in our U.S. Government. And the center of it is number 45. No, I’m not going to use the name, but we know who he is. But however as far as all that “Making America Great Again” in all: NOPE. Time to rally against the thought that many who supported “45” and having his attitude against immigrants, blacks, Mexicans, and many other things that are not like him is just is. Yes, it’s like a call to activism.

WAKE UP!

This is where I stand. To me, FB (or this blog post) is a useful vehicle for connecting with old friends and keeping up with family, but it is also a place for my passion and activism. I believe and respect all opinions, even if they don’t agree with mine, so we can all use FB (or this blog post)to vent.

I believe that our 45th President, his power hungry cronies, and the majority of Republicans in Congress are a real and active threat to me, my way of life, and all the people I love. Some people are saying that we should give Trump a chance, that we should “work together” with him because he won the election and he is “everyone’s president.”

This is my response:

•I will not forget how badly he and so many others treated former President Barack Obama for 8 years…

•I will not “work together” to privatize Medicare, cut Social Security and Medicaid.

•I will not “work together” to build a wall.

•I will not “work together” to persecute Muslims.

•I will not “work together” to shut out refugees from other countries.

•I will not “work together” to lower taxes on the 1% and increase taxes on the middle class and poor.

•I will not “work together” to help Trump use the Presidency to line his pockets and those of his family and cronies.

•I will not “work together” to weaken and demolish environmental protection.

•I will not “work together” to sell American lands, especially National Parks, to companies which then despoil those lands.

•I will not “work together” to enable the killing of whole species of animals just because they are predators, or inconvenient for a few, or because some people want to get their thrills killing them.

•I will not “work together” to remove civil rights from anyone.

•I will not “work together” to alienate countries that have been our allies for as long as I have been alive.

•I will not “work together” to slash funding for education.

•I will not “work together” to take basic assistance from people who are at the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder.

•I will not “work together” to get rid of common sense regulations on guns.

•I will not “work together” to eliminate the minimum wage.

•I will not “work together” to support so-called “Right To Work” laws, or undermine, weaken or destroy Unions in any way.

•I will not “work together” to suppress scientific research, be it on climate change, fracking, or any other issue where a majority of scientists agree that Trump and his supporters are wrong on the facts.

•I will not “work together” to criminalize abortion or restrict health care for women.

•I will not “work together” to increase the number of nations that have nuclear weapons.

•I will not “work together” to put even more “big money” into politics.

•I will not “work together” to violate the Geneva Convention.

•I will not “work together” to give the Ku Klux Klan, the Nazi Party and white supremacists a seat at the table, or to normalize their hatred.

•I will not “work together” to deny health care to people who need it.

•I will not “work together” to deny medical coverage to people on the basis of a “pre-existing condition.”

•I will not “work together” to increase voter suppression.

•I will not “work together” to normalize tyranny.

I will not “work together” to eliminate or reduce ethical oversite at any level of government.

•I will not “work together” with anyone who is, or admires, tyrants and dictators.

•I will not support anyone that thinks its OK to put a pipeline to transport oil on Sacred Ground for Native Americans. And, it would run under the Missouri River, which provides drinking water for millions of people. An accident waiting to happen.

This is my line, and I am drawing it.

•I will stand for honesty, love, respect for all living beings, and for the beating heart that is the center of Life itself.

•I will use my voice and my hands, to reach out to the uninformed, and to anyone who will LISTEN:

That “winning”, “being great again”, “rich” or even “beautiful” is nothing… When others are sacrificed to glorify its existence.

SSP The Struggle Continues

America:

As we know by Sunday Afternoon, we lost the legendary Alwyn Lopez Jarreau. Or to many, Al Jarreau. So far this week, we have heard tributes from News One, to those playing the music that gravitated us to hear.

Many of us are griveing and shocked that he already announced his retirement after 50 years in music. But also passed on way after that. At age 76 years old, he made himself well known.

Yes, he had to go west to get well known after he got his master’s degree in Iowa. And the saying goes, the rest is history. But there is ONE caveat that is part of this. One word: Milwaukee. The same Milwaukee that many don’t want to come back all because of whatever. More on that later.

Al got his start in my hometown of Milwaukee in church. He was a graduate of Lincoln High School (now called Lincoln Center of the Arts) from the class of 1958. Lincoln High School was a rival school to North Division High School which was way before Rufus King and Riverside University High School’s rivarly were thought about. His parents were in ministry and a pianist in the church where he got his start. From his high school days to his career in the music game as I said before, Al was getting noticed.

He had his share of hits from “We’re In this Love Together”, “Mornin”, “What you do to me”, “Boogie Down”, a theme song from the 80’s TV show, “Moonlighting”,  to  “In My Music.” Oh, he did a Christmas Album too. Plus he did a song in 1976 about his hometown, “Milwaukee” from his album “Glow” mentioning his move out west to California with the Old Milwaukee Road in between.

Speaking of the songs, and yes many of you went to his concerts over the years. And most definitely that Al did Milwaukee gigs at Potowanomi Bingo for his homecoming concerts. Even singing the National Anthem at a UW- Milwaukee Panthers Game.

Yes Americans, he followed his dream as summarized on the Because of them we can Facebook Page. BUT……He did came back to Milwaukee for not only other music concerts, he came back to visit the students in the schools to give them some knowledge and advice about their gift of music. Most recently, he was at The Milwaukee High School of the Arts, (for you MPS Alumni old heads, West Division High School) providing that notion. He also expressed in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, that the kids today in Milwaukee aren’t getting the same music opportunities as him back in his MPS days. Yes, Al Jarreau was a MPS Alumni member. Plus he hoped that the kids would get music in the schools to maintain just as science, technology, engineering, and yes math. Music is just as important in the schools like Gym Classes or sport teams. Period. I am a living witness to this as a music dude myself blowing Saxophones since 1989. 7th Grade. So yes, Music/Arts in Public Schools does matter.

Now I want to say this: For you fans, he was a great musician. For us in Milwaukee, he was our native son. Hope you all respect that.

Now for us in Milwaukee: if we can get the stuff lit in orange,  or purple for Prince, we need to light up our landmarks in Al’s favorite color in symbolic of him. I’m dead serious. If we say we love him or admire him, light up Miller Park, his schools, City Hall, the Art Museum, Summerfest, or any other Landmark in honor of him. Light up all the Milwaukee Landmarks. Period.

For Summerfest: we know the 50th Anniversary is coming in June. Expecting all fest folks to come out. I would like to see a all star Milwaukee tribute in honor of Al Jarreau! I’m calling the locals who follow Al’s music, to the famous Milwaukee folks like Eric Benet, Speech from Arrested Development, to Tank even a Core DJ  that is really known famous and is Milwaukee Born, get yourselves to Summerfest this Summer and get this tribute thing started. If I can think of a good Summerfest 50th Anniversary Celebration idea, this could be it. So I’m challenging the Community, the Landmarks, the musicians, the famous fans like all over, and even us at heart, get that set up! If any relatives or family members are reading this, ponder this for a moment after your bereavement.

Not only that, expand that energy back to the students. They are looking at this and one day in the next era, they might pick up the advice that Al Jarreau said and keep playing. Speaking of that: we all know that Al Jarreau’s Homegoing is going to be private. And since the donation factor of his cause is still open, I urge all supporters to go to this website: UPAF.org. For you folks outside of Milwaukee, it’s the United Performing Arts Fund. It’s been around since 1967 in the recognitions of Milwaukee’s Arts of Music, Dance, Theater, and many of the fine arts that had produced locally. Matter of fact, read about the mini summary of the organization here:

https://upaf.org/what-is-upaf/

Let’s keep the name alive for him. Al Jarreau has given us 50 years of what he knew and let’s give him some love back in his memory!

I have been approached about a recent article this week on Facebook. Last time on the blog, I written about a TV program that has been on the rise within the last 5 years. This program I talked about was 414 Video Spotlight. The show that comes on every Saturday Night and Sunday Night after 12:00am. The show is filmed here in Milwaukee, and yes for the 5 years it has garnered attention of local musicians that are getting noticed and still getting noticed here in Milwaukee and parts of Wisconsin.

Last year, (and I forgot to add this to the list of the good) 414 Video Spotlight’s owners opened another chapter to add a studio in the city to do the shows and of course showcase the local talent. Remember when I said that Milwaukee needs a black owned studio? Well guess what, the studio is here. And it’s the first African-American Owned Broadcast Studio in the entire state.

But what I’m talking about is not music. Nor the videos produced or summarized. It’s about a recurring theme about a caller leaving racists voicemails. This is been happening, according to the owners since October, and the same racist caller has been doing it since. If anyone you know who has a Social Media connection on Facebook with one of the owners, Melvin James, he posted a video of the recording that was far more racist and threatening!

WARNING: If you are of age on Facebook: BE ADVISED! The messages are not for the weak at heart. It is graphic and has implications of the use of violent threats.

We all know that Milwaukee is the most segregated city in the United States. That is not a joke. Plus I should add that the country we call The United States of America has racism in the DNA of the country. Way before Donald Trump was even thought of. We know.

But as for the story, check out the summary of the report via Fox 6 News:

Now I’m assuming that many have heard the message about the threats. For those whom are not aware, Wisconsin’s African American Population is around 8%. The Milwaukee Metro Area is under 600,000 people with about 30% of the population is African-American. And again when it comes to segregation and racism: Wisconsin is no stranger to it. It has been for a while over 40 years and it is still a hot button topic that many don’t want to return or move away from. However the issue of racism in America is still a topic.

What was displayed here after I’ve listented to the uncensored recording of that on Facebook, my reaction of that was just disgusted. A cowardly caller as I like to call it, called into the studio and addressing all this mess about he “represents” those who don’t like black people and all they good for is catching ball, dance, hanging from trees, living in “cribs” and etc. Last time I checked we done more than that. Matter of fact, black folks are WELL MORE than just those whom think that is all we do is drink 40’s, catching balls, dance and others.

I haven’t met Mr. James, but there is one we have in common. We’re former students of John Marshall High School and the thing is, when I see an MPS Alum doing his or her thing no matter what it is, it’s about appreciation. The fact of matter is, many have this misunderstanding about us MPS Alums doing positive things. While many of YOU Wisconsinites and Greater Milwaukee Folks may not like black folks doing stuff like this, you better appreciate that it’s not about doing jail time or ending up in the grave all because of some thought of going after someone with a AK-47.

This is kind of amusing: I was on the Fox 6 Facebook Page, and there has to be that one White dude on the comment section about asking, where are the white owned networks? That was foul. That dude should know darn well that many in the TV world owners and network media that the majority of them are own by Caucasians. Dude was drunk and high! Black folks, when white folks ask that ridiculous question, give them the reality check. When BET was created 37 years ago today, it was about addressing the news that NBC, CBS, FOX, ABC and many others wouldn’t address even more concerning black folks. Now along with BET News, there’s TVONE, Aspire, UMC (not the United Methodist Church) OWN and others that can cater to the majority of African-Americans. Hell, I’ve been saying this for years. The proof is in the blogs. Look it up!

Having an African-American Broadcast Studio is not being racist. Having an African-American Radio Station like WNOV in Milwaukee is not racist either as having African-American newspapers, magazines, blogs, columnists, that gives perspectives on black issues everyday!

It’s really interesting that the majors or submajors have all this and that, but still don’t have that black perspective on deck. Until the recent stuff happens, the company has to shift focus on getting that black perspective. The WWE went through this years ago, in trying to recruit future wrestlers of the company that were black folks. They did and some of them won championships. True!

But regarding the recent acts of racism, and racist threats, it will be addressed and already the Milwaukee Police Department is looking at the matter.

But in the meantime: support the idea of 414 Video Spotlight!

Within the past year I have asked many many times: Will you miss Obama?

Well I hate to say that after 8 years of being fired up and ready to go, and also delivering the ideal of Change, and many other factors, yes it’s time to say thank you to the 44th President who had to put the country on his back whether anyone or anybody likes or not. Even you are a so-called hotep warrior who probably just copied almost every word out of Hidden Colors or maybe, yep I guessed it: A Trump supporter who had to remind everyone about the so-called deplorables that had to vote for him over Hillary Clinton. But I’ll say this though, Obama did infact asked Americans to hold him accountable of the concerns and ideas he puts out. And yes Trump Supporters: you must hold ol Donnie accountable. If you don’t, someone will!

Back in 2008 as many know, many in the country were estactic and shocked that an actual African-American actually won the White House. With an African-American First Lady that was so active and black! Even the daughters who grew up so fast in the 8 year reign. I mean they were kids! Now Malia is 18 years old and off to college and seeing the world. Sasha has a way to go to make sure she finishes High School and then off to College. I mean wow, whether anyone likes it or not, the Obamas really have jolted America, and the world that a guy like Barack rocked the culture. If only my late Grandparents and Great-Grandmother were alive to see this. Man!

The Obamas brought life into The White House. From the right to take pics to cooking barbecue on the White House Lawn. Even having black history related events of Jazz, and BET. I’ll bet many African-American Historians, Analyists, and many others had to dig real deep about the history of the House and it’s black representation. It wasn’t just slaves. It was cooks, leaders, supporters and many others who were black that couldn’t been seeing around the House and having their stories really told. When Michelle Obama said this past year that everyday she woke up in a house that was built by slaves, for you Obama Racist haters, she was telling the truth. READ A FREAKING BOOK! Many really have to read on how the White House was built, by free and slaved black folks! She also got us active with the Let’s Move initiative along with the garden, and also putting up new ideas of nutrition on our labels of foods and drinks. Plus supporting Military Families.

Barack on the other had, started up the Affordable Care Act, in which many hated the idea that it’s the law of the land, in which many who cant afford the high costs of healthcare, can now afford it due to the fact that not only it helps to go to the doctor, but also paying less that Blue Cross Blue Shield current has on the high level. Oh yeah, you Obama haters hate that do you! Look, not everyone is not going to get the high coverage as you, but look it’s about those who had a hard time (like many of you giving him a hard time) actually looking for coverage that can be invested in to support.

Jobs: As of right now, the jobs report were on stat. But also before that after the mess that George W. Bush made after leaving office,  Obama had to reverse the negatives all that in which was left behind. It was shameful. Specfically the auto industry that was losing. But got bailed out on  the Governent side to get the jobs rolling again. Remember MasterLock? Of course you do. MasterLock was delivering jobs outside of the country, but Barack broght some of those jobs BACK HERE in America, specifically here in Milwaukee.

Add Science, WindPower, transportation ideas, and more that we needed to explore. Even moonshots about ending various forms of cancer! And I’ll bet also those who hated on gun violence: probably are gun owners themselves. Yes, there was a time when Obama was doing Skeet Shooting at Camp David and lord and behold, there was pic of him with a shotgun. At least he is a responsible GUN OWNER! Speaking of which: President Obama was NOT coming for anyone’s guns! All you fools who posed around with your glocks, pistols and other arsenals that about gun safety or gun accountably, you had to realize that he wasn’t coming for the bullets or rifles anyway. You were tripping! Admit it.

And just for the record, Milwaukee for those who may not know, gave birth to MasterLock in the first place. Just like the Beer, the Harleys, and of course Usinger Brats and a festival called Summerfest.

Plus the bail out of GM in my point of view had to happen in a sense because of jobs as well. Along with education. MOSTLY education! I’m not just talking about getting a High School diploma and actually going to work, but also making sure that the colleges and universities have that access of summaries that they display after the graduates leave school, to make sure that job or that career is ACTUALLY on display to have. Most colleges have this right now, I should point out. Even the technical colleges.

Oh and about the haters. Everything from “YOU LIE!” to actually being targeted by Racism. It’s all brought out by those who have the hate against Obama. You on the other hand probably got all that stuff talked about at Grandma’s for the Holidays. And even though that many in the black community praised him, there are some (I hate to say) that have this disdain that he should help out Black America, over the gays, etc. Look HERE! HE SERVED AS  THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES! When the Affordable Care Act was signed, the majority of that act, per se mostly geared to black folks. Most of them didn’t have enough coverage per se didn’t cover all that pre-existing conditions that many others have wiped away like right now. As far his speeches, again look what he said at Morehouse, and Howard. Oh did I mentioned that he gave a speech in one of the “so-called” bad neighborhoods in Milwaukee? And it was a black voting ward, and it was at North Division High School. Hmmm…….I wonder what happened. Remember My Brother’s Keeper? Ooops I’m sorry. Go back and read it why it matters!

The first time I heard and seen Michelle Obama: August 2012 at Bradley Tech High School campaigning for her Husband in Milwaukee. I got pics. And video footage from my Canon Camera! Then I thought that after she was here, Barack is coming next. After that, guess what? He came! September 2012, and a long line that was formed from the Art Museum to the Summerfest Gate. Plus metal detectors and yes, the man himself was overheard on the crowd at the BMO Harris Stage near Gate 20. And I know Gate 20 because I used to work at Summerfest moons ago! Hearing my President, along with mother, and getting about 3 or four pics of  him was just so priceless! I still have them even today and to my FUTURE FAMILY MEMBERS: DO NOT LET THEM GO! FOR NOTHING! THEY ARE HISTORICAL PICS FOR LIFE!

And yet here we are. America: you can love them or hate them all you want. Matter of fact you can sit down. Simply because that this Family, had really rocked the country to new heights. Plus also the main reasons I picked the Obama Crew (TWICE) is because of the enthusiasm and vision. And no it wasn’t just because he’s black. Yeah I know America has a disdain when it comes to race, here’s the thing I’ll bet President Obama had to deal with the race factor all day everyday for 8 years! And dealing with the same mess from those who opposed him on everything from the very beginning. Ask our republican friends with the Tea Party family folks.

Like the time that now President Elect Donald Trump had an idea to produce this thing called a Birth Certificate just to see if he’s actually an American born-citizen. And he and the rest of the racist republicans was just that: hating on him just because he kept being Barack! Let’s be honest America, the country as great as is, does have a race problem. And  you wonder why many in the world is laughing at us. That’s like saying, “Well there is America, acting all gung ho and making dumb remarks to their First Black President!”

And what we do about it the most? NOTHING!

Almost having this thing about the church he attended under Rev. Jerimiah Wright. The same pastor who uttered the words: “God Da*n America.” And many of you haters had gone wild! Again, In the words of my former Pastor, “when you Da*n someone, you are condemning.” That what it is. Or like when someone says “Da*n You!” He or she is condemning you. Flat out.

Plus also, like many others in America: there will be Obama stories that will be every archive, every throwback, every flashback, and every single black home (almost) that we know very well! Of course that there will be those who want to erase all or most of the things that he worked hard for some those who feel he didn’t deserve it. NEWSFLASH: OBAMA DOES deserve to be respected in every archive and summary we put out. Period! And like many other presidents before him they will get book deals to be made. I want to get his book! I want to get his side of the story that is uncut, maybe uncensored (YES I DO) and also what he really REALLY NEEDED to say as a Private Citizen. Or Private Citizen Obama, or Executive Citizen Obama. Don’t matter what his new title is after January 20th, but note this: He’s still a force. Period. He’s still an influence. Period. Even in hip-hop. And I want him (or anyone in the Obama-Biden Crew) to have a adviser thing when drafting NEW leaders in the Democratic Party. Matter of fact, make that BETTER leaders in the Democratic Party!

So yes, it’s time for the Obamas to get that LONG retirement. It’s time for Joe Biden and Dr. Jill to take their retirements as well. Speaking of Joe, dude was Barack’s number two. making sure that the duties remained in place, remained on point. He may have been on that crazy side, but yes Joe Biden was and is like Barack: a force. And I’ll say also, like he would say about the ACA, Joe Biden was a huge F-ing deal! And even though he lost his son Beau, didn’t have a chance to run for President, (which would also been great to do) I’ll say also yet again that Joe was that 2nd Dude. Oh, you  all remember that 1994 Crime Bill that many black folks hated and still hate, um…..Joe Biden had a hand in that. Just to add. And I mentioned that he made and appearance and declared that he was a member of the NAACP? Yes, the soon-to-be former VP is an active member of the organization that was founded by 6 whites and one black. And yes white folks, you can join the NAACP as well as getting scholarships named after Martin Luther King. True fact! Try it.

The country in my opinion had a “real 8 years”. A real 8 years that was bombarded by the reaction of race, reaction of change, reaction of second chances and reaction of getting involved. I had the fortunate privilege to work during the Obama Campaign in 2012 and I don’t regret it not one bit. NONE!  I felt that I didn’t do this, I wouldn’t have to tell myself in the next 20 years nearly 60 saying: “I wish I would done that.” But yes we live in a nation of woulda, shoulda and coulda. We know. But however not many thinks that way. We know.

And now, it’s time that on January 10th, 10 days ahead of the Inauguration, that the 44th President will address the nation for the last time. And yes, it’s going to be sad. It’s going to be like dang, how did it get here so fast? We were just used to him! Or why didn’t he do this or that then he had to leave? Well for all you who weren’t so active these last eight years, WHY DID YOU COMPLAIN?! You sat there having him to do all the work, and when problems happen, you get mad happy and just complain. “I wish he came to this or came to that!” BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. Many of you didn’t. Now since Donald Trump is going to take over for the next 4 years, now you want to say: Oh I should have helped Obama more. WELL……….too late now.

Many of you whom stayed at home on Election Day, or having the gaul not to vote at all are going to get the ultimate price of a thing called: Elections Have Consequences! Take notes yet again!

Wisconsin is now a red state. – Elections have consequences.

Obamacare might be gone. – And for those who voted for Trump and having a problem that your medicare might be in jeopardy, Elections have consequences.

Most of the executive orders that many favored  UNDER OBAMA might be eliminated. Election have consequences.

Let’s be real here: this is not a game.

So let me say this to the Obama-Biden Crew: THANK YOU!!!! Thank you for the 8 years of enthusiasm and vision. Thank you for being open and bringing in real values. Thank you for being open and bringing in things that had to be done! Thank you for the swaggers, the black woman magic, the magic of us have to get up and the magic of support. Thank you also for the valor and value that this nation must continue to endure even when a Trump Presidency might worry us. Thank you for the encouragement that when they go low, we must REMAIN HIGH! And most of all: thank you for you!

There will be future blogs I’m going to write that will have Obama-like references in it and unlike those that want to, you will read it.  And yes it will family friendly!

Here in Milwaukee, we also lost those who gave the city a voice, and a reminder:

Eric Von -known for being on WNOV, 1290 WMCS, and the health initiative of Brain, Brawn and Body. He was 58.

Slyville Smith – a 23 year old shooting victim that was killed in Milwaukee that also erupted portions of the city that was engulfed in flames.

Za’layia Jenkins was only 4 years old after a bullet struck her, while watching TV.
Colin Demge- well known DJ in the Riverwest Area, died at 33.

Jay Anderson, killed in Wauwatosa by a police officer, At 25 years old.

My highlights of the year

And as usual: I want to put on my 2016 moments. I feel a need to say this because I’m hoping to have a year of better opportunities. 2016 was a year of milestones for me in this order:

20- the amount of years that I am my Church’s techie. I started out running the church sound system in 1996, and worked up to taking photos, and social media. The proper name is Commutations Chairperson and I was awarded an appreciation award for what I still do!

10 – the amount of years that I celebrated as an alumnus of the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Plus serving as a Election Inspector for the City of Milwaukee. All since 2006.

5 – the half milestone that I served as a board member for the John Marshall High School Alumni Association. Since 2011.

And yes, I turned 40 on December 5th.

In addition: I was the Official Photographer for the 46th NCJ-BMCR Jurisdiction Meeting in Milwaukee. And had networking implications of course.

Plus adding on another board title for a scholarship committee here in Milwaukee.

Sidenote: Oh I didn’t noticed this but, I appreciate the 20,275 views on my blog. This is great, BUT: the “same old reading stuff” bubbles must be busted in 2017!  I will find a way to do it, or maybe not. We’ll see.

I’m just going to let loose. This is the last “Scratching my head all this time” thing. Actually its the last story in my 30’s. But don’t worry since this is the 12th month and the birthday is on December 5th, yes I’m going to keep writing when the 40’s happen and yes there will be a SPECIAL Sagittarius Check in for all of us Sags born between November 22nd and December 21st. So with that, I’m cutting to the chase right now!

Since when did the real racists have a say when Donald Trump became president?

Have many stopped sleeping on the Wisconsin Badgers Football Squad? Oh, yes they lost to Michigan and Ohio State, but guess what Michigan fans, no disrespect, but your squad got beat by IOWA! And you’re crying about a tiebreaker with Jim Harbaugh’s rants about refs. Hold up, he needs to look in the mirror when his then-49ers torched the Packers with crooked zebras!

Can the Packers really “Run the Tables” in another attempt to get to the playoffs? Run the Tables, Relax and Chill fellow cheeseheads. #GoPackGo

If the Badgers win the B1G Championship over Penn State, is there a STRONGER WAY to get to the Rose Bowl and actually WIN IT?

Is 40 the new 20 like many said?

Hey Sagittarians: It’s still our season. Are we having fun or what?

Now Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke might be a potential pick for Trump’s Homeland Security Position. BUT you know that he had folks die in jail without water this year, right?

Milwaukee is now a Blue City in a RED STATE. How will this workout, as if many times before?

Remember when Colin Kaepernick was kneeling  during the Anthem? Why didn’t he vote?

Why is it that the NES Classic Edition is so hard to find AT WALMART? But when you go to Gamestop and try to buy it for $80.00. REALLY?!!

Is Amazon Fire Stick TV really the business?

Last year, the Coloring Books for us grown folks were a hot seller. What’s next to come back for the Christmas season for the grown and mature? And it’s not just the VR machines.

This year, we all heard about DirecTV Now. 100+ Channels for 35 bucks. Now here is my question: Can us on the DirecTV thing who are sick and tired of paying about $100.00+ per month can actually be traded to pay something less cheaper with the new DirecTV Now?

Did anyone actually were thankful by reading my Be Thankful blog for Thanksgiving?

Here’s something to scratch on: What about those who say don’t buy anything during the holidays, but those who will buy the items anyway?

Yes I agree that Black Dollars Matter. Which really it does. But whom is having a hard time understanding that?

This past Tuesday was Giving Tuesday. Who donated to their Alumni Groups?

What is the biggest stigma of misunderstanding of when turning 40?

OK I have to scratch this one: Many are saying that Luke Cage, Sons of Anarchy or others are better than Empire. Look I can respect everyone’s opinions, but what’s better than Luke Cage or Sons of Anarchy? Monday Night Raw?! Black-ish? I have to say this: the next couple of shows coming out, will be better than Luke Cage or them other shows. Mark my words.

What about them Milwaukee Bucks so far? Don’t sleep!

You know that the Nintendo Switch is coming out like next spring, right?

We got those lists coming out for 2017. Are we going to follow it?

Who is really hooked on those Hallmark Christmas shows right now? Come on now, please confess to Father Stephen! Admit your confession!

Will this year be the best Christmas ever? Since Obama is leaving office next month.

Speaking of that: Will you really miss Obama?

What will be your BEST and WORST of 2016?

Have the Introverts really got respect?

Why has 2016 had NO CHILL when famous most recently have passed on?

Who was the real deal in Milwaukee this year? No I’m not picking Sheriff David Clarke.

Who was the real deal in Wisconsin this year? Nope sorry Scott Walker!

Since Christmas is coming as usual: Who is the real Scrooge you know that needs a butt kicking right now?! Go get those three spirits.

Since 2016 had no chill, what about the unemployment and the underemployed of black men and women had NO CHILL all along?

Since 2016 had NO CHILL: has anyone caught those who murdered that college student near my Alma Mater of UW-Stout?

Since 2016 had NO CHILL: what about the still health concerns about black folks?

Since 2016 had NO CHILL: What is the deal of the same ol’ tired stigmas about black on black crime that the “you know whos” had to bring up when police shootings happen?

Since 2016 had NO CHILL: what was up with cultural black organizations had to shut down due to funding in America?

Since 2016 had NO CHILL: Why did those who say they were for Hillary, but were backing Donald Trump?

Since 2016 had NO CHILL: who is really having a hard time finding work? Especially in Milwaukee?

Since 2016 had NO CHILL: Why there are those who feel that ALL CHURCHES are about money?

Since 2016 had NO CHILL: Who is the biggest hypocrite? Those whom do church, or the job, or the streetfolks?

Since 2016 had NO CHILL: what will the black folks who voted for Donald Trump will actually get in his 100 days in office, or 4 years? Not much!

Since 2016 had NO CHILL: Why is Wisconsin’s rural areas have the stigmas about city folks?

Do you realize that leaving one place to another might have implications of seeing the same old racism yet again?

Most of us are still reeling from this so-called election where hardly no one voted up enough. Who is really at fault for NOT VOTING? And will this not carry over in 2018?

Speaking of 2018, will this be the last year of Sheriff David Clarke and Scott Walker?

AND the last question before I turn 40: Will you or might you believe that anything is possible to go hard even further?  Despite anything?

Bonus Question: Should the blogging I do should be added to the Milwaukee category on WordPress? I looked at that and it’s completely DRY!

There will be more coming out.

I thought I would never say this today.

Between 2017 and 2021, there will be a harsh reality that a guy like Donald Trump and those voting up for him in anguish against the Obama Crew all this time is really coming to light. And those of us that wanted to stay home and not exercising our right to vote is also that the rules haven’t sunk in enough. Well guess what ladies and gentlemen, THEY HAVE SUNK IN! For you Millennials or Blacks who haven’t voted or those who needed a reminder (after writing in Daffy Duck or Elmer Fudd) that Elections Have Consequences. You will hear that again. And again. And again.

This is like losing a championship in the big game. Really it does.

Looking at Hillary. I know she tried. Lord knows she tried. But I would like know is why she didn’t come to Wisconsin when she was campaigning? I know Chelsea, Tim Kaine, and others have been here. But why wasn’t SHE HERE?! Why wasn’t the Clinton campaign wasn’t going to the doors knocking, emails, public meetings, mobilizing,  and signing up those that wanted to vote up? Specifically here in Wisconsin?!

Trump was in Wisconsin more than once. The airwaves were up. He was spending money like crazy. Not much for Hillary.

CALLOUT: Remember when  Obama was running? Get used to saying that.

Remember when Obama was running and the folks were out in droves? Turnout was high as hell, and folks were also enthused to get to the polls. Going door to door, and everything. And it kept going and going. That machine was working. It was kicking butt and taking names! Plus a new way of politics was born under the birth of the Obama Crew.

But why not for Hillary and Tim Kaine? I think that has to be examined. As well as for the Democratic base and connections.I think also the so-called third party is to blame. Just like Ralph Nader took some of the votes from Al Gore and John Kerry. Oh I know you remember that, huh?!  That Clinton machine though, even though we know it well, it was not working. I respect her service, but it was not enough. Not enough.

But oh no! Not even a close one.

And the list of Donald Trump’s demands though. Most of that might be gone.

Affordable Care Act: it might be over.

Executive Orders that Obama had: Over.

This is like removing Obama from historical assets. All this work in the last 8 years might be in serious jeopardy. It’s a problem!  That’s like we partied so much but forgot to save the money for the nest egg.

So to say this: This really sucks. When I was working the polls on Election Day, I observed the people coming in and out. All of the 13 hours from sun up and sun down at my old High School. And it was my 10th Year serving. But when I looked at the results of the Official Turnout, that was part of it that wasn’t as sharp. It was a low medium turnout. Not a lot of people didn’t show up to vote. I know many heavily voted early. But the last minute surge wasn’t on point. And this is supposed to be a Presidential Election? REALLY?!! Why the low turnout?! That ain’t cool with me. Sorry! Especially in Wisconsin that got Trump the W.

All that energy, was just gone.

You have these women, these white women the most favoring Trump, after what he said about grappling vaginas in a sexual abuse manner: Disturbing. Even hating against Muslims, Mexicans and that wall and African-Americans. Most of the men with degrees and high school diplomas (white men) also favored Trump. All those who polled and asked: “who are you going to vote for?” I’ll bet your bottom dollar, the respondents probably lied in thinking Clinton, but favoring Trump. And voting for him. And again getting the W. And the issue of Voter Suppression still lingers.

So what happens now? What really happens now? What needs to be done?

First: EVERY Election future race must be examined. The city, county, state must NOT be overlooked. Period.

Second as we know: the Presidential Election must not be slept over. NOT EVER!

Third: The Clinton Machine that was working in the 90’s needs to retire. But I want to see a new machine that can grow again and also be unstoppable that can be better for the Democrats. Can Chelsea do this? I’m looking at her to be that new cog in that NEW Clinton Machine. Maybe Bernie can help out. Knowing he could. And don’t think that the Obama Machine is at far behind to be redesigned. Just wait haters.

Fourth: The DNC needs to retool, restock, retrain, and reload with new fresh talent. Not just the same old thing, but again: NEW FRESH TALENT! From the city alderman to the number one contender to the White House. Plus, the DNC needs to TALK THINK AND DO with African-Americans. That needs to be cleaned up.

Fifth: The black folks can not be shut out. Period. No matter who or what. Black folks: we need to let the upcoming administration know that no matter what happens, he will be examined. That’s like saying if Trump F’s UP his game as President: get on him. Just like when Obama said about accountability. I don’t care if you are a hard nosed Republican fan that shout N*gger words in public. Yeah I said it. Many of you will be saying it around that Thanksgiving Day Holiday and your co workers plus that individual you didn’t like.  You the Trump Republican fans: You better hold him accountable in everything he does! Folks will be watching his every move. If he messes up: get on his case. If you don’t, others will. That is a promise. Even the German Challencelor had a not so friendly advice to Trump. Germany, as an American (whom did not vote for Trump) you have my international permission to hold Donald Trump accountable! And that goes for our allies as well. And no, I’m not running to Canada. I’ll visit Canada though.  Plus also, black folks we need to get back to be real voters again. Not protest voters. REAL voters! We need to access our own businesses, our own economic status to improve, and build our time honored tradtions to get US to stay in the game. Even if we need to go into our own businesses if the so-called businesses don’t want us because we’re that one word: Black. Now for you non-blacks, you may think this is a racist remark, but to us, it’s the truth that many will not tell you. And some of you are married or worked with black folks.

Sixth: I was listening to WNOV this morning. And there was question about who will represent the Black Community in the Trump era? Black folks: Look to our Senators, Our Congressmen or Congresswomen. Our Alderpersons, regional leaders whom are black. Here in Milwaukee: We got just to name a few, Senator Lena Taylor, State Representative Jason Fields, Congresswomen Gwen Moore, Alderwomen Chantia Lewis and Milele Coggs, Alderman Ashanti Hamilton, Alderman Khalif Rainey, Alderman Cavalier Johnson, Alderman Russell Stamper II, County Supervisors: Marcelia Nicholson, Supreme Moore Omokunde, and Willie Johnson Jr. And no, I’m not putting Sheriff David Clarke on the list because I think now we in the community are waking up with the real truth about him. He’s not what he says he is. He don’t qualify.  Other black leaders like Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, Shelia Jackson-Lee, and other well known black officials must not be overlooked either that can be viable to represent.

Seventh: We know that Donald Trump’s inauguration is in January. Of course we know. But just watch Obama’s last remarks.

Eight: Younger folks whom are 18-25 and love my blog, you need to realize that voting does matter. It matters when you register, actually get the ballot, vote your choices, and get a sticker. Plus also, you have to be engaged,  educate your issues, concerns and many others. Many of you should have done that! If you didn’t vote, that is on YOU! You should have voted but instead worrying about the  water in Michigan, tons of unemployment in Milwaukee or the ongoing saga of innocent black men slaughtered by the police, or the  ongoing thing of HealthCare for others, you must be waking up dumb! Oh, Donald Trump talked about stop and frisk nationwide. Law and Order. If a racist cop pulls you over and the deadly frisk happens: DON’T SAY I DIDN’T WARN YOU! These new laws that the new upcoming administration would do would be far more deadlier than your expensive smartphone. Get your minds right quick! This is no game! It’s not a joke.

Yes, many of us are sad and scared. We need to be afraid. There is no telling what Donald Trump might do first, next or last. We won’t know if any of our allies would be able to trust our intellect, our civil rights, our employment, our education, our right to choose, our right to marry, our healthcare needs and wants, our trust, borderline neighborhoods, the small town, the big city, a new red state, or the same old blue state, or if anyone is bright enough, yes like Dr. King once said, we got some difficult days ahead. We got through the mess of Ronald Reagan, George W. Bush, trying to get over the junk of Scott Walker, and now, soon to be: this guy.

By the way: The Struggle Continues.

I know that the DNC and the RNC had their Conventions, but guess what: It’s time to talk about what’s up in Milwaukee: In relation to the first MPS Alumni Summit.

Coming off the heels of the first All-Alumni Reunion, the summit was gathered at Bradley Tech High School on July 22nd, and yes: IDEAS were flowed about how can we the MPS Alumni can combine our forces to be one voice and one experience to give our ears, our EXPERIENCED ALUMNI EARS to give out to the current district of our schools. I know I’m a Marshall guy. But others were King, Hamiltion, Tech, Vincent, Lincoln High School, South Division, West Division (or Milwaukee High School for the Arts), and many others all under the MPS Alumni Umbrella.

This Summit was all about our Alumni Associations. Our Alumni Groups. Us being combined with many talents, ideas, truthful comments, and a host of collaborative ideas to remain ACTIVELY INVOLVED! – You will see this again towards the end.

When we gathered at Bradley Tech’s Entrance way, we were greeted by members of the Milwaukee Public Schools. They directed us to check in which we were given packets with information about volunteering, upcoming events, an overview how the 2015-16 provided the successes of the academic performances, an overview of Universal Drivers Education, a program that was missing from MPS for a while, is now making a comeback into the high schools. Plus an overview of what Milwaukee Public Schools is doing now to improve the outcomes of students: from White House Turnaround Arts, Community Schools, Partnership Schools, Trauma Sensitive Schools, College and Readiness, and M3 – Collaborating with MPS, Milwaukee Area Technical College and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

However: that was just the first wave of info. We were later divided into groups and were in discussing about the experiences of our Alma Maters. We talked about various experiences of Alumni Associations being an influence and a liaison. We also talked about why those in the Alumni don’t always contribute or gain interests in joining the Alumni Associations. From the lack of interest, to not revealing so much about the past. Even breaking the ice of the saying “Alumni Associations are for old people” commentary. REALLY?! One of the directors, of the committee is a 1997 HS Graduate of the Milwaukee Public Schools and currently active with Milwaukee Public Schools’ Central Services areas. Plus also many might realize that Alumni Groups are in need of the young folks. Those whom are late 80’s – 00’s that are alive and active. We also learned that there were commentary about not enough knowledge about Alumni Associations in terms of not hearing of one, not being knowledgeable about their purpose. Some of us commented about haven’t got started on joining Alumni Associations due to job starts or raising families. Many of us joined Alumni Associations well after 15 -20 years after graduating from High School. Me for example, I joined the John Marshall High School Alumni Association as a board member in 2011 which was about 16 years after my 1995 graduation. We also talked about collaborating with other high schools in the district. As many know here in Milwaukee, Rufus King and Riverside for example have Alumni Competitions in Flag Football, and year after they compete in raising scholarships and charitable causes. With other schools, Bradley Tech has the Turkey Bowl Alumni Classic on Thanksgiving Weekend and usually other schools of Bay View, King, Hamilton, and Riverside all compete under sportsmanship. Plus also, besides the trophy, it’s also about the value of education to the current students, with scholarships and career opportunities.

Also in the first part, we talked about that ALL Schools should have an All-Alumni Reunions every year. This needs to happen. For example: Rufus King has their annual Alumfest on the school grounds each year during late July. Bradley Tech has an All School Cookout and they have been doing it since early 80’s. There was two points that Marshall had an All-Alumni event in which the school celebrated 50 years in 2011. Plus along with the Soccer Game which was organized by a former Marshall High School Coach, the school also had a mini open house in which brought back some Eagles Alumni to view the merchandise and the soccer game as well. Even though there were some of the interests that was successful, but many should have came out or donated to the school for fundraisers. We also talked about the naming of the schools. In keeping the names of the schools to have that connection on the Alumni level. For example: this portrays about in one school in particular, my Alma Mater, John Marshall High School. Just recently the school got it’s original name back.

But what took to long get it going again?

Back around 2011 as most know, I blogged about the name of Samuel Morse*John Marshall School for the Gifted and Talented. Why was it again? Two things – Low Enrollment and also MPS was viewing the Gifted and Talented Program on the Middle School level in which everyone know that Morse was known for, but there was not one on the High School Level. Henceforth, that’s how Morse was fed into Marshall based on the Gifted and Talented program. And the school was going back to it’s 6-12 Grade roots. Just as a reminder who don’t know, Marshall started out as a 6-12 grade school, or a Middle and High School that was established in 1961. Furthermore, according to the history, the thought of Marshall being a Middle School/High School goes back to 1929, when then MPS Superindent Harold S. Vincent was in charge of the school district. Yes, the same Harold S. Vincent that has a school in his honor of Vincent High School here in Milwaukee. The school was placed on a land once owned by the Archdioces of Milwaukee at the time in which it was vacant space. There was no Dominos, no Citgo, no Wendy’s, not even a Mautz Paint Store that was placed. The School itself was state of the art, and once had over 3,000 students enrolled. Even some of the students had to go to the 65th Street School (now the Milwaukee Envriomental Sciences Academy) just across Capitol Drive.

Marshall has gone through it’s naming transformation over the course of the 55 years. It started out with “John Marshall Junior-Senior High School”.  Then around in the early 1980’s, it became “John Marshall Senior High School”. Around the Mid 80’s to the late 90’s, it was “John Marshall High School”. For the early 2000’s, the name and the school was split in three sections with W.E.B. Dubois High School, The Milwaukee Academy of Aviation and Technology or MAAT. Which the building was named “John Marshall Campus”. Thank former MPS Superintendent William Anderkopolus, a Marshall Grad for that. And most recently between 2010 and 2016, “Samuel Morse*John Marshall School for the Gifted and Talented”. Yes, John Marshall has been on the building for 55 years. The Gifted and Talented thing with Morse really had worked. The enrollment was building, the academic of Project Lead the Way, STEM, and many others really clicked. It was budding.

A point for the Alumni was asked in a sense from the staff, regarding the Alumni Association. I remember one of the former board members getting word in a question that asked “The Alumni Association: All they do is come to graduations thanking the graduates, with speeches and having their pictures on the wall. What have the done for us?!”

Ooooh! We were called out.

The Alumni Association had been called out and woken up by the then Morse*Marshall staff. They wanted to see us. They wanted to talk to us. They called us out. For the record, we visited their open houses, their Homecoming Games, Basketball Games, Marched on parade, visited their art galleries, musicals, and partake in their concerts of Winter and Spring. Even represented at their Graduation Ceremonies. So yes, we were “called out” and responded. And supported the students of their gifts and talents. Around last summer, there a flyer going around in regarding the “Morse” side of “Morse*Marshall”.  Early on,  I was approached by a former Parent Coordinator that MPS might pull the Morse Students out of Marshall sometime in the 2015-16 School Semester. I asked is the school going back to the 9th – 12th Grade, and the answer was yes. Later on in the year, the notice was approached to the Alumni Association in regarding a public meeting at the old Burroughs Middle School. Some representatives from MPS showed up at the meeting and talked about the pros and cons of Morse. There was some positive pointers, but the negative pointers of the stats and data was a concern. A concern that had to be examined based on academics and overall performance. One of the parents in the Public Meeting that her children wanted the “Middle School Experience”, in which she wanted a stand alone Middle School. Just 6th – 8th Grade. The data and notes of the meeting were later passed on to the district board for review. Last October, MPS reviewed the notes of the meeting, and it was approved that the district will move the Middle School of Morse out of Marshall to the Burroughs Middle School Building in the 2016-17 year, while Marshall will grow as once again as a 9th – 12th Grade High School. My Alma Mater will also reopen some classrooms and get new textbooks just to name a few upgrades. Later on, the school got another visit from MPS, this time from the Alumni Student Engagement area. Plus this was with the Alumni Association. One of the highlighted reasons I got from meeting was a new way to help strengthen the Alumni through their schools. And the featured part of the meeting what I got out of was the name of “Morse*Marshall”. Personally there was a disconnect between the name of Morse and Marshall. And partially it was due to the identity of the school. Many of feedback, partially from the Alumni wanted the school’s name to return to John Marshall to have that connection not only of the school’s history, but also with connection with the Alumni. When the school name of “Morse*Marshall” came out, not many in the Alumni was not too pleased with it. NOT MANY!  Majority wanted the old name back to reconnect as in once again a sense of identity that many know.

Furthermore, as of now, a new school year is coming, and the name of “John Marshall High School For the Gifted and Talented” is coming to open another chapter in the school’s history. I shared this link on Facebook on my private page, and later on two Milwaukee Marshall Alumni related group pages, and the results HAVE EXPLODED! And currently the word is spreading. So for you Marshall Alumni that wanted the name back, you got it! But I asked this question: Should we back this up? And make it stick? This portion of the news just came in time before the MPS Alumni Summit.

Other parts from the first meeting came about with some ideas to flow to all MPS Alumni:

  • Discussions about Go Fund Me, a page that could use in assisting in fundraising, etc.
  • Questions that might arise of “How can I help” Mixed also with being proactive.

Highlights of three versions of Small groups – These are the small groups that are very common as we know:

  1. Gung Ho – Those whom are always doing the work. Mostly the grunts.
  2. Actively involved or still involved
  3. Waiting List – those who waiting to assist or work with Alumni Associations.

Suggestive Ideas. And all should know:

Again: Have All School reunions every year. Host them during a week or month. Mostly during the summer months as an example.  (King Alumfest, Tech Annual Cookout every summer)

Help marketing to gain interests.

Have highly motivated people.

Help the system/help the school.

Use parent engagement.

Have 2 schools to collaborate: (i.e. – Marshall/Washington)An example raised about the Alumni Games of King and Riverside.

MPS Mentoring Program – Mentoring students while in school. Keep track on their progress, goals, objectives, etc.

Have businesses/trade colleges fairs and career fairs in the schools. This would be excellent for the Alumni to collaborate.

The second part of the meeting was more of what could be about our ideas to reach out as a MPS Alumni Member. One the things I said in the part of the meeting was these two words: “Actively Involved.” That is what EVERY MPS ALUMNI Member must do to be paying attention of what’s going on in our Alma Maters. Mainly some just come for party and glory which is fine, but many of us want to work! That should send signals to those that we want this to happen.

Reach out to businesses – mainly around the schools. Many of the businesses that the schools know, should support. For example, if a small business or well know business knows Marshall High School or Washington High School very well, that business needs to be reached out. This is where sponsors and support needs to happen! The same for those whom are well known Alums that work for a business that the schools really need to reach out.

Adopt a school. Some alumni can get together and form a group to adopt a school in the district. It could be a Elementary, Middle, or High School.

Identify the products of MPS: Add High School and year on business cards. (As in with Colleges and Universities) EVERY ALUMNI NEEDS TO DO THIS! Even though its not wanted, but still everyone in the MPS ALUMNI needs to add the their MPS ALUMNI to help connect and advertise. As an example: Milwaukee Public Schools Alumni: 1995; Milwaukee Area Technical College Alumni: 2000; University of Wisconsin-Stout Alumni: 2006. And matter of fact, that needs to be added on LinkedIn. Just saying.

Put a “good news” newsletter for the MPS Alumni Hub. Over the course of the year, we hear about all the scandals of Milwaukee Public Schools. Fights, suspensions, bringing a gun, racism etc. No matter the scandal, it seems to say “NO MPS FOR MY CHILD!” Or “Oh, it’s a fight at Marshall with all the gangs, or Bradley Tech got some word of N*GGER on the front of a locker”. “Or Riverside High School had some crazy fights on Facebook Live or Periscope. And Vincent joined in with King.”

Stop me if you heard this before. Why is it that when stuff like this happens it’s bad for the district and everyone goes hysterical about one MPS Fight strikes everyone to fear?! We ALUMNI need to talk about the good side of MPS, and what we the ALUMNI need to talk about that is positive, uplifting, inspiring, and a good opening reach to get us going for our kids that are currently in MPS and doing great things.

Speaking of that, I kept scratching my head on this, and it’s for us music folks. I know that MPS has an Alumni Choir, is there space for making an MPS Alumni Band? Think about it, MPS! An Alumni Band with horns, keyboards, drummers, guitar players, a DJ if you mind that can play instrumental music. And the idea can be formed with those who want to play for concerts with the Alumni Choir, have you Alma Mater Colors in full force, and even play at the MPS Music Festival. Or Summerfest. THINK ABOUT IT! Even an MPS Alumni Orchestra needs to be formed. I’m just saying. Who’s in?

And the last point: Strengthen all of our schools. All of our neighborhood, charter, special, and many other schools in Milwaukee Public Schools need to have strength to carry on. Never forget, we have to do this for the kids. We Alums had our day way back when, and yet we need to have that power to support. For many years, it was the parents, tax payers, staff, and neighborhoods that stood up. Now adding the Alumni to the mix is really going to generate new ideas to thrive. Think about this: many tax payers, educators, business owner, worker, parent, veteran, ambassador, or other title might have gone on to better things, but MANY started at Milwaukee Public Schools, and this would be a great time to support this new energy!

The last part of the Summit was more like a summary. In which what was discussed and what was learned. I think part of my summary was described above when I said the words “ACTIVELY INVOLVED”. That is what we need to do as MPS ALUMNI the most. I mean already we got the tools and talents. We need to put them to work.

Also, for anyone is a MPS Alumni Member, a website on the website has been created for us who want to be further engaged. The Milwaukee Public Schools has created the MPS Alumni Hub  for us Alums who want to know about any upcoming events, news, reunions, activities and many other we can keep track. There is a sign up sheet online in which you can register and the info will be delivered to your inbox. And for the record, this new areas of Alumni and Student Engagement been active since last September. And it took off since.

Overall, I’ve gained some insight about this. And I’m glad that I got the chance to get this info. What I have learned that we Alums can be valuable in the district based on what we do. I think also the idea of creating an Alumni Hub or an Alumni Area per se, is not to forget about us. But also realize that there is more we can gain. Of course we got our schools to upkeep, but combined with our stenghts and ideas, we can say that we are so MPS PROUD!

So MPS Alumni, its time to be real, be legit, and be giving. Our ideas must work to gain new ideas and to continue to spread “NEW ENERGY!” in the district that many of us grew out.

Oh, ask the MPS Alumni Office for a MPS Alumni pin to add to your collection!

I just had to do this. With all the elements of what’s going on, I’m putting out a scratching my head post, which is the current edition. Even though it’s post 4th of July in all, I’m going ahead with this.

Why can’t all cops be like Nakia Jones ?

Yes its true, blacks were slaves during July 4th 1776. But you know there were those unsung that wanted to get away in order to fight to get their freedom papers right?
Where are the real black patriots whom have “black patriotism for country and world” and being black at the same darn time? Even being a real truth teller? And black conscious? And unapologetic?

Why there are some African-Americans whom look at the American Flag being “racist?”

When it comes to the issues, what is up being one sided? And you know what I’m talking about!

Is Wendy Williams that ignorant about the HBCU’s?

I know many had to go hard on Jesse Williams and his speech at the BET Awards. Had the haters sat down yet?

Will the church pastors talk about the recent events of the shootings? Even afterwards?

Have anyone, just anyone followed “my rules” for Summerfest 2016?

Summerfest 2017 will be so golden that they have invite all those that used to work there. Should they do that?

While many are continuing support for the slain officers in Dallas, Texas; many are still have not forgotten about Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. And will be funeralized this week. Does anyone see the pattern here?

You know that the Wisconsin State Fair got next, right?

For you bogus Credit Card pushers, why are you scamming folks?

Man listen: why folks on Youtube have to test Dick Gregory?

Question:why so many folks and you know them, post stuff on Social Media and most they think its true? KNOWINGLY some of that is FALSE!

Black folks: you know you could celebrate Juneteenth Day and the Fourth of July if you like, right?

What is the real concern about those asking about church folks who worship on Sundays, and then go out to eat at Red Lobster, a small family restaurant? What is wrong with that?

Scenario: You hate church. You can’t stand the preaching or the money. And go full postal on social media. Why can’t you go in person say what you got to say to the Pastor and the Church? Are you THAT scared?! That naive?! I dare you to try.

Is the Zika Virus that real serious?

Seriously, can someone school Sheriff David Clarke about this rant about Black Lives Matter? And no mention about the KKK. Shameful! Milwaukee, we are embarrassed by his half carcassed commentary.

Do many still fear Intelligent Black Men that want to do good, or many think that they’re all in one lump sum group that they are all the same as the bad folks?

Yo: what is up with the Jobs section in the Sunday Milwaukee Journal Sentinel being thin? I remember when it was thick!

Milwaukee Suburbans who hate the city: yet you hate Milwaukee, but post negative memes about the city and you don’t live there. EXPLAIN?

Will there be a Hits 3 and Hits 4 out of the vault of Prince?

United Methodists: does the BMCR still count?

Why those that used to go to church or never set foot in a church thinks that “all christians”are the same hypocritically, in which they are not? Almost many think that black people think the same, which is not new but a myth.

Why do folks on Social Media AT TIMES say they hate Church, but then turn around that they  comment:”you can go to any church you wish?” #VERYCONFUSED

They say violence is the same but the cameras are new. Agree?

Is it just me, or has this Summer season really flown by so fast?

Oh, Cleveland: are you really happy you got a title after a 50 year drought?

Why is Azealia Banks is still talking? Has she NOT learned her Twitter lesson?  GO SIT DOWN IN YOUR ROOM, LITTLE GIRL!

For all these younger conservatives like Tomi Lahren: Can you all go in the room in sit down after commenting about things you have no knowledge about? Black Panthers, etc.

Man, some of you officers need to turn in your badges and guns for all that mess about your KKK alignments. Can we have more officers like Nakia Jones who is so deep?

Think about this: Can us African-Americans wear the American Flag in our cause for Black Lives, and against the discriminations of us being black period?

Do we still think this example from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is a reality like right now?

Did the Second Independence Day Movie lived up to the hype?

Will Team USA be having an “American Summer” in Rio?

Americans: If you really think that Black Lives Matter thing is a terrorist group, you must be on that haterade. Why?

Huff Black Voices called out the so-called #AllLivesMatter mantra. #AllLivesDidntMatter. They did it 21 times. I’ve been saying and questioning: If All Lives Really Matter, Ask yourself why. Ask why, how, who, what, when, and where. Can those do that? Put up or shut up! #IfAllLivesReallyMatter

Does Laser Bond USA really work?

Ladies: I know this Irvin man or #MrStealYourGrandma is going on right now, but what happens when men look at #MsStealYourGrandpa?

And the last question: And this is for Milwaukee: La La Brown and Kool Aid’s Killer is in custody. A possible lead is finally in play for Alexis Patterson. Is there a way to heal?

BONUS QUESTION: For all the folks who fly American Flags, or White Folks whom Fly the flag the most. One my local black radio stations WNOV in Milwaukee had a statement of flying the flag in regarding black folks. Can you GIVE A REASON why African-Americans (for those whom are still on the RGB tip and conscious and others) should fly the flag? On a shirt, lapel or houses.Break it down for us. And think before you answer. Yes, we are Americans. But provide this answer!

SSP The Struggle Continues

Well readers, the rules are back. My rules in which many must follow, or to simply just to give advice. For this it’s the new traditional Stephen’s Spot Rules of Summerfest. Reviewing again for 2016.

First, let’s go over what I said last time in a long sentence mixed with something new.

Since Summerfest is well known in Milwaukee, I know about the place very well. I volunteered at the place, saw some shows, and worked in the late 90’s plus the year of 2000. I know the gates, security things, and the places to park near and far from the venue. So if you ready to party like crazy, start learning and reviewing.

1) Summerfest is 11 days. Except July 4th.  And everyday there will days where you can get in free. Learn it! Especially the timeframes given. Like today, there was free way to get in for donations for hunger from Noon – 3:00pm . Please PAY ATTENTION TO THE TIMES! And pay attention to the news and radio promos about Summerfest as well.

2) The park does have information booths. Need a program? They have them. Or for the mobile folks you can download them via the net or straight to your smartphone. Your choice.

3) CALLOUT WARNING: If you are an out of towner and have been stuck on the Wisconsin highway for about 2 and half hours getting to the park, that is your loss! The reason why I’m saying this because when I was working for the company,  I got hollered by a man (a white man from Illinois mind you) about him being stuck on our highways for two hours. He verbally asked for the manager and the freaking former mayor John Norquist of all people. I am not making this up. This is a true story working at the main gate back in ’99. Keep in mind,  Summerfest Security doesn’t control the freeways for the patrons to get to the park. My advice for you Wisconsin visitors (that  yes the traffic will be hectic due to construction mostly, or the 1st shift folks going home, 2nd shift folks going to work), get there early. Like a day early. Or hours early when traffic is not huge.

4) If you ever think that you’ll be videotaping for your own personal use in or near the park (i.e. camcorders/video equipment), don’t record nothing! Knowing security they will take away the recording devices. They got rules for that. And the same goes for the Amp! Leave the camcorders at home.

5) If you’re about to pick up a ticket for a concert and if you run into a member of Security or Admissions to pay them for the assistance to wait or ask questions to assist, don’t even try it! Buy the ticket and get an early pick up, or a mailing.

6) Cameras (mostly small cameras)  are allowed on the grounds. It’s cool. But in the Amp, Nope.  They won’t allow it. Don’t try it.

7) Like bathrooms, and merchandise areas, there are ATMs on the grounds. Be sure to spot them just in case you need that extra green.

8) Leave your weapons of swiss army knives at home! The red shirts will take them, as well as any other suspicious item that is deemed dangerous.  Just a word of warning.

9) Usually the workers in the colored shirts don’t reveal their names. Best advice, know their numbers! Like 563. Or in this case: Red 563. or Yellow 450.

10) For the first time goers: Summerfest attracts big crowds. Just a word of warning.

11) Best thing to ride at the grounds: Besides the arcades and the interactive stuff: Skygliders. Take them. It’s legendary and use your cameras for sky pics!

12) Don’t be afraid to help those who don’t know much about the park. Give them some pointers! Now, if you can’t be at Summerfest, but know what the day schedule is, and if your bestie needs that social media assistance: Tweet it. Facebook it. Instagram it. Text it. Google it. #Hashtag it. You know the routine!

13) For the bus folks, as you know Summerfest got shuttles (MCTS, Restaurants, Bars, etc) . You know the deal. No need to tell you.

14) They say that Summerfest has nothing for the kids. Um…they do. Look at the children’s theater schedules, and they have a Children’s Fest day.

15) Yes, you can buy food and drinks at the park. BUT…………if  you buy food on the outside as well as drinks trying to get in, can’t do it. Just like having cans and/or glass bottles. (Just a thought from my Security days)

16) If it’s raining and if you have an Umbrella, yes you can bring it. BUT…….not in the Amp.  If it’s hot, better take a towel just in case. If you get hurt, injured or get sick, Summerfest does have First Aid Stations!

17) Like any other venue, there are areas that you can lock up your stuff. Ask the personnel in the info booths for that.

18) Upon entry, you will be searched. Just a heads up. Bags, strollers, etc. Expect the pat downs and maybe overhead security things. Side note as of June, 2016: Summerfest will have metal detectors. Just like in high school in the 90’s with the searches.

19) Now check this, if you bought a concert ticket to see Selena Gomez or any other headliner at the Amp, yes, you can get through the gates with that as well. Mostly the South Gate.

20) Keep in mind, Summerfest does have cameras all around the park. If you mess up, don’t expect to be spotted or thrown out! Warning for those who might be drunk in all. I’m just saying!

21) For the record: Pets are NOT allowed at the park. BUT……….service animals are acceptable as well as many other needs for the elderly and disabled.

22) And as far as parking: Many know well that parking can be a hassle for a good spot. My advice, look for the areas near the park, like parking lots near Michigan or Jefferson Streets. U.S. Bank near Cass Street has festival parking available for those who want to use it. Yep, pay the required amount. Plus also if you have a concert ticket plus a parking validation with it, you are straight.

23) For the record, Summerfest does have urban acts lined up for 2016: Morris Day and the Time, Jason Derulo, The Roots, Nelly, Kirk Franklin, Andra Day, Common, Stephen Marley, Kool and the Gang, Sir Mix-A-Lot,  Check them out. Even our own local urban artists are performing. PLEASE CHECK THEM OUT MILWAUKEE!!!!!!

24) And last but not least: Currently, Construction is a beast. Take caution and be safe. Really it is. For Summerfest’s rules of the park, see here.

25) As far as Fireworks: No need explaining. You should know. First night of Summerfest and July 3rd. Pick a spot and view with the cameras and smartphones on stat.

Caught up yet? Good.

NEW STUFF THIS YEAR: or the extra reminders you already know

AGAIN: Summerfest now has metal detectors. Be advised.

Look for the Summerfest Street Team. They are around.

For all you UBER drivers or Lyft Drivers, I hope you got your plans set up for the extra green. No need to tell you. Or those Ubering a chance to earn money for the big gig rides. Feel free to sign up here. Lyft Drivers, I don’t know about you, I’m assuming that many of you are probably making ideas for your drivers to set up the schedules.

Even though it’s relatively new, feel free to leave your mark on the festival with a brick. No really, you can! Check out the “Brick Order” on the Summerfest website. It has a variety of prices on it, but it is worth to have your name etched in stone for life!

For the Power Pass Users, you’re lucky! Use that pass to get in for the shows of your choice.

If going to the BMO Harris Pavilion Stage for a show, you might have a “Blue Circle Seat Pass” for the acts. Some of the passes are sold out, but there are those you can get depending on the shows. For more information, click here.
