Normally, I hate to interrupt my ongoing celebration of Black History Month of 2019, but recently today, I caught an ire of a story that nearly had my blood boiling. This is the article that many of us Black Wisconsinites had to read while encountering a thing called a Snow Day:

From the Wisconsin Public Radio Website:

Wisconsin lawmakers clashed Tuesday over a Black History Month resolution that names controversial athlete Colin Kaepernick, a former NFL quarterback.

According to Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke, R-Kaukauna, some Republican members of the state Assembly were concerned about Kaepernick’s inclusion in the resolution, which was drafted by the state Legislative Black Caucus.

The resolution text says it aims to “recognize the significant contributions people of African descent have made, to the foundation, growth and development of our country and state.”

It includes figures like Lucien H. Palmer, the first African-American to be elected to the Wisconsin Assembly, Violette Neatley Anderson, the first African-American woman to practice law before the United States Supreme Court and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

Kaepernick, former quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, has been a lightning rod for political debate since he began kneeling during the national anthem preceding games in 2016 as a way to protest racial inequality in the United States. He has since left professional football, but remains a polarizing figure.

Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, R-Rochester, said it was unfortunate that the state’s Legislative Black Caucus chose to include such a divisive figure in their resolution.

“We’re in a new era, we’re trying to figure out ways to work together,” Vos said. “We would hope they would have more consideration to say, let’s look at finding ways to work together, rather than always looking at ways to drive us apart.”

Rather than vote on the resolution drafted by the state’s Legislative Black Caucus, Republican lawmakers attempted to bring up their own Black History Month resolution. That resolution omitted Kaepernick and Milwaukee Rev. Greg Lewis, and added Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes and Vel Phillips, the first African-American to be elected to statewide office in Wisconsin

Chairman of the state Legislative Black Caucus, Rep. David Crowely, D-Milwaukee, called GOP lawmakers’ refusal to take up the caucus’ resolution a “slap in the face.”

“The biggest issue that we have as a black caucus is people choosing to pick our leaders for us,” Crowley said.

The state Senate is expected to take up a Black History Month resolution Wednesday.

The office of Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, R-Juneau, did not immediately return a request for comment about which resolution to the Senate would vote on.

Later on, in a 61-34 vote, it was almost that the vote went through, but later on afterward, the Wisconsin GOP removed Colin’s name because he was deemed as well: “too controversial.”

After reading this article, this was the stupidest thing I ever read. For the second time behind closed doors that the Wisconsin GOP who are mostly white are telling black folks what they can put into a resolution that makes them feel better. But when the name Colin Kaepernick appeared in the idea of the resolution, they all had those nightmares of him kneeling before the National Anthem. Oh, did they mention that Colin was born in Wisconsin? Yes, he’s from here! We’ve found this out when he torched the Packers. Colin Kaepernick is from Milwaukee. Grew up here. Liked Brett Favre and everything. And yes he went out west with his family after age 4 and also played ball in college and of course played in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers until he went through Green Bay and en route to the Superbowl. And lost. And of course Colin got beat by the Packers 17-3 and the majority of the season just benched. Then the kneeling started. Everywhere he went and just kneeled during the National Anthem. Why?!! We know that he didn’t take any future offers with other NFL teams. But with all the Kneelings he was protesting, later on, was against police brutality. Not against the Flag or the Pledge! And the thing also VETERANS who saw his protesting also joined his cause. Even a Veteran named Nate Boyer who was a fan of the 49ers at first didn’t like Colin’s cause, but the two got together and talked about why was it necessary. Hell: EVEN President Obama commented that Colin’s protest was exercising his Constitutional Right as a citizen. And plus, Colin Kaepernick is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. A black fraternity that was founded in 1911.

So to the so-called Wisconsin GOP: in regarding your resolution to choose whom we should recognize during Black History Month in Wisconsin is indeed a “direct kick in the crotch.” That’s almost sound is like you telling us what we can do and what we can’t do just to stay in our lanes and keep quiet. That to me as a black resident of Wisconsin is flat out ridiculous and I dare say racist! Majority of you probably never had the ability to acknowledge the legality of Black Wisconsinites of the contributions we made here in all of the 170+ years that the Badger state has been in the union. Thusly, you haven’t known anything. Probably never attended a Black History Month or Juneteenth Day Festival or anything that pertains to the ongoing contributions of Wisconsin’s African-American Historical Aspects. For once, I’ll say in regarding not including Colin Kaepernick in “your” Black History Month Resolution is really stupid! You labeled him as a “controversial figure” all because of his protests of the Flag, his Pig Socks, the National Anthem and amongst others. And you label him as a controversial figure. You know who was a deemed a controversial figure that was deemed hated and many folks after about 50 years since his assassination is still admired: that’s right, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Oh, I can name another controversial turned likable figure: Muhammad Ali, who had to relinquish his championship belt in boxing because he refused to join the military during the Vietnam War. But many liked him! Juan Carlos and Tommie Smith, whom in 1968 had the black fists raised and head bowed on the podium in Mexico City, And oh…..they were controversial, but many now are liking them after their gesture. And keep in mind that 1968, MLK was killed, along with RFK months later. Another controversial figure that stood up for civil rights for the female side of things: Fannie Lou Hamer, who stood up for the movement fighting for the right and encouragement to vote in the south then was beaten up for her act of protest along with her supporters. But most of her cause, she progressed forward. Even after she questioned the statement regarding the idea of black folks were being murdered for their rights to vote such as: “Is this America?” to a convention in 1964. And oh: Remember Rosa Parks, whom as we know refused to give up her seat on the bus in Montgomery, Alabama? Yeah, that one. And that was deemed controversial!

So what does of all this mean? I highlighted a few African-Americans most we know by reciting events, examples of protesting, and speeches. But THEY COLLECTIVELY were criticized for being controversial. But many years later are being admired as part of the movement and want to effect change. Even other men like Malcolm X, other women like Dorothy Height, and countless other African-Americans that fought for EFFECTIVE CHANGE!

What I hate to say that the GOP of Wisconsin does not give Zero F’s about black folks. And the population of the African-Americans in the state is roughly under 8%. While is ok to recognize the black leaders in the state for various contributions is fine, but to not recognize Colin Kaepernick and for the Activism/Philanthropy he has brought: such as Anti-Police Brutality, Youth Initiatives, Community Reform and Minority Empowerment, Health Reform and Nourishment, and Climate Change Awareness. And additionally, he donated $50,000 to two organizations here in Milwaukee a couple of years ago. So this guy as many looked at being un-Patriotic, in all, with the flag in all, looked controversial, but at least he’s doing something right to address the ongoing concerns of America’s dilemma dealing with racism and countless others. Even this biased BS crap in Madison of a controversial resolution of Black History Month!

Oh you know I’m about to go in. 2018 had me crazy! It had me on point, it had me on rotation, and it had me bugged out. But at the end of me asking these crazy questions we might understand it better. But…since this is the last Scratching my Head all this time of the year, but it’s not the last! So as we countdown to the last ticks of 2018, and we prepare for our Watch Night Services, All Night parties, and family gathering to usher in 2019, and yes to get our resolutions out of what we want to do in all: you’ve guessed it, I’m scratching my head YET AGAIN!

Who was EMBARRASSED HARSHLY in 2018 that will not go away? And will it take to heal?

And this is the last question before the ball drops and clocks out for 2018: What will you carry into 2019 that you learned in 2018? And also, what will you NOT take into 2019 that you went through hellfire and brimstone in 2018?

Now: let’s go party.

Happy New Year!

Everyone knows how this goes yet again. And it’s really simple. No need to link or google or even #Hashtag. Today, many around the country and in the household or other areas, we Americans will be celebrating that holiday of food called Thanksgiving. From the Parades to the NFL Games, Dog Shows, or other new traditional ideas that will boost the food day. And yes, there will be us going out to the clubs and shaking off the pounds to get loose for Christmas. Or staying home for the house parties.

And yes, there will be constant reminders of the horrors that our Native American brothers and sisters will not participate in this Thanksgiving Day due to the killing of their ancestors outside of a church on a Sunday morning many moons ago. Henceforth, The National Day of Mourning. We know this.

But this holiday, yes does have the two words of Be Thankful for the things and ideas we already have. So here in its 11th Anniversary tradition, here is another traditional Stephen’s Spot Thanksgiving Blog of “Be Thankful”. Break out the tablets, Smartphones, PC’s or laptops. Start reading!

If you have a GOOD PAYING job that is good for you and it pays well, be thankful.

If you don’t have a job and still looking and STILL not quitting, be thankful!

If you have good insurance, either health, auto, home or dental STILL be thankful.

If you have a good car or truck that gets you to work every day, and still runs well with or without repair be thankful.

If you FINALLY have a good doctor or you still don’t have one, but still want to get that monkey (and constant NAGGING) off your back, STILL be thankful about improving your health. And STILL trying. Take your time!

Now I need to say this: If you found out that you have a chronic illness like Diabetes, and you had a devastating moment of asking why it happened and didn’t have the words. But also you had conversations and online postings about those who have it already and knows the feelings of the battles, and you learn from them and they can inspire you to be better and get with the program of what they know, and still believe that it’s possible that you control diabetes and not let it get the best of you. In the month of National Diabetes Awareness Month: BE THANKFUL that you have a support system that can back you up. I’m learning that since February 20th this year. And personally, if you read my blog story about me being a now Type 2 Diabetic, I thank you.

If you have a cool dentist and he or she is good and professional, be thankful.

Like any year, if you have lost any loved one this year or years past, and still feel down that the space is empty or the chair is empty, and you want to fill it up with a new generation of family members that want to pull ahead, even close friends, we must try to be thankful to carry on. It’s hard, but we must. I still miss my father, and like last year, my Thanksgiving will be different without him.

If you had folks praying for you all year for all the things you’ve been experienced no matter good or bad, be thankful that there are folks that know, and are in your corner.

If you are expecting a raise in 2019 and will be getting it, be thankful!

Do you still love your gifts and talents that are unappreciated? And still, do them all the time? Be thankful!

If you still got your parents and/or relatives as your back up, be thankful that they still care.

If you had a sibling in the freaking hospital more than once, who is being taken care of and heard good news about coming home, and I know this AGAIN: BE THANKFUL!

If your Mother had a minor surgery done to remove kidney stones, and blood infections, and still be able to eat or move around then some: BE THANKFUL!

Got good neighbors that know you no matter how long? Be thankful.

Met any new neighbors lately? Be thankful.

Moved to a different city recently that you feel is best? Be thankful.

Moved back to a city that is best? Be Thankful.

Got a good plan to get that next step in your career, or a different career, and a mindset? Be thankful.

If you encountered a project or program that really SUCKED MAJOR BALLS and you tried your best, and you had a bad review to feel discouraged in all, but you also realized that there are other things you can do, still be thankful that you can still other things that make you stronger! To hell with the things that don’t work. Stay with the things that can work.

For all of my church folks: if you want your Church to succeed despite those want it to fail due to jealousy, BE THANKFUL that you are willing to fight!

If your birthday or anniversary is coming up or it already happened, be thankful!

If you are STILL very introverted and darn proud of it, and not ashamed to tell about it or embrace it, be thankful!

Single and not in a relationship? Be thankful.

Married with or without kids? Be thankful.

Single and no kids? Be thankful.

Single with kids? Be Thankful.

Divorced? Be thankful.

You still have a church home that you stay and willing to have your kids to grow IN THE CHURCH? Be thankful.

If you have been given a side gig, and love it to be paid with that cash money or checks, no matter what it is, be thankful.

Got a good pet or know a pet that knows you well? Be thankful.

If you STILL give back to your community, your Alumni, your Church, your Scholarship Committees, your Fraternity, your Sorority, your Unions or other groups that have been treating you good all this time, be thankful!

If you have served in your community as an Election Inspector (like me) for 12 years or more and still work, BE THANKFUL!

Wisconsin: If you have voted in this Election and if your favorite actually WON, BE THANKFUL!

If you STILL appreciate the value of your former teachers or coaches, or former principals, of anyone that knew your value of education, be thankful.

If you can’t wait to eat the meal that gives you life, be thankful you can still eat the grub.

Still avoiding fake news? Be thankful. They suck.

If you read the old blogs that I can’t control the reading, but still want to read what I want to say regardless from my black point of view, be thankful! Not just for me, but for you.

If you STILL got stuff in your house that you want to give away, be thankful. Somebody will take it.

Still fighting Racism, White Supremacy, Sexism, and others? – Be Thankful.

Got a good business handy? And it’s good for you to make that money like Uber or Lyft or It Works? Hey, be thankful!

If you switch your career to a new company in the past year or will go to a new company, be thankful!

Own a business? Got your own time schedule? Invested in a product or material? Be thankful.

If you got many reachable sources to give, or to provide, or to share, or to support, and it’s really catching on, you better be thankful!

If you are planning to vote in 2019 and 2020, be thankful! Get your ballots ready.

If you are looking forward to another holiday weekend of fun, be thankful.

If you are NOT shopping on Black Friday, but willing to spend Black Friday outdoors in the woods or parks, Be Thankful! It’s a release to avoid a violent backlash.

If you are not shopping on Black Friday, but willing to spend your cash at a local business, or on Cyber Monday, be thankful.

If you are donating to your favorite charity on Giving Tuesday, Be thankful!

If you can’t wait to deck your halls for Christmas or Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa, AFTER Thanksgiving (some of you did it ahead of time) Be Thankful.

If you criticized Donald Trump for his “horrible so-far job” as President and his tweets, REALLY BE THANKFUL!

If you are breathing right now normally: be thankful.

If you were removed from a company that had you started in the game, then a rift in Management occurred, but went to another company that is good so far, BE THANKFUL!

If many in the black community have black pride PLUS Melanin Responsibility to uplift our black people without sarcasm and forced stuff, BE THANKFUL!

Now I have to say this again: If you kneeled while supported the protest of inhumane acts of people of getting brutalized by the police (as in the NFL Players) and support the idea of waving the flag: your thankfulness is valid because even though many of you supported a kneeling movement in a Colin Kaepernick way. NOTE: It’s not about the Flag or against the military or veterans. It’s about the ongoing concern of black folks getting the wrong treatments of social injustice!

If you are walking tall real good, be thankful.

If you are expecting a really good breakthrough, BE THANKFUL!

If you condemn any racist act on the internet, social media, at your job, or in the house, or in the neighborhood, or any act of disrespect, forced patriotism, and you had to write letters of complaints to a certain company, STILL be always thankful to get your voice heard! Put the pressure on them on not coming back!

If you are upgrading your house to be better, be thankful!

If you got a plan to take a vacation, be thankful.

If you still got your old game systems on a Throwback Thursday and they still work, be thankful!

If you still listen to your old school joints on your radio, or maybe some new school material, be thankful.

NOTE: For my readers that had to go through hell with the wildfires in California, and the Hurricanes out east, and still feeling hopeless. I want you all to understand that it’s a hard Thanksgiving Day for you as we know. But in a sense, you should be thankful that you can rebuild. And BE EXTRA THANKFUL that yet, you are still living! And be EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA THANKFUL that a breakthrough is coming for the better!

If you are a conscious-minded person, a defensive-minded person that you know is best, for your own opinions and viewpoints without any harm or hurtful feelings towards humanity, be thankful!

As of today: I’m thankful that Stephen’s Spot has now reached 1,000 posts! If you read all or some of a few blog posts within the past decade in all: BE THANKFUL! And I thank you for reading! More to come.

For my Sagittarius readers: guess what? Our season is back TODAY on Thanksgiving Day! Are we thankful, now? (SAGS RULE!)

And finally: If I missed anything that many have thought about, and it’s good: we all should be and forever so thankful that we must march on. Like they say at the black funerals: It’s already been said. It’s already done.

Happy Thanksgiving!

#BeThankful

Before we Americans throw down on the turkey, yeah there will be political drama at the dinner table. There will be many other factors in which we will ask the question, what are we thankful for in all. It’s also a Thanksgiving that yet the truth will bust out that some of our Ingenious Native American Folks will not partake in the holiday due to the national day of mourning. If you’re not familiar with it, research! Even you might watch football and the ongoing traditional Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade ushering the Christmas Season.

But likewise….I’m scratching my head again.

Milwaukee, how’s that streetcar thing doing? Overall, please. No Hop Haters from those who DON’T live in Milwaukee!

So it seems now that the People’s Flag and the Milwaukee Arts Board have to get back in talking about the ongoing idea of getting a new flag. We’ve all have seen it like everyday. But many will agree that the People’s Flag Folks HAVE NOT talked to the whole Milwaukee Community. Why?!

They say that the voting never mattered in the Governor’s race in Wisconsin, mainly Milwaukee. Ummmm, did anyone see the totals while yet folks complained?

Can you be a real church member and bring a level of consciousness that many might fear and still be loyal? Not talking about money in all.

Can the Wisconsin Badgers think big and quietly usher in better talent to run pistol plays? Be advised, Big Ten.

Black Woke Folks: we need to stop all this talk about getting us not to vote. And what is the reason why? Back off! Jeez!

Mostly, in that Georgia Election, the reason why Stacy Abrams lost was due to voter suppression, and I dare say: Racism. Agree or disagree?

Remember when the WWE or the WWF Survivor Series was ON Thanksgiving Day?

What will it take to get the Green Bay Packers to get red hot AGAIN?

You know that Country music has two African-American singers that are killing the scene right now. Like Kane Brown and Jimmie Allen. Heard of them? And Country Music is part of Black History!

Who still goes to the clubs and bars after the big meal on Thanksgiving to shake off the pounds?

How about those Milwaukee Bucks though?

And why did Andrew Gillum lose in Florida again, to really someone who is deemed racist?

Since November is National Veterans and Military Families Month, how really those who love our Military actually SUPPORT our Military? And how many of us really love our Veterans SUPPORT OUR VETS?!! Don’t start illing of not being a fake patriot.

When will Milwaukee EVER get their Holiday Parade…..err Christmas Parade BACK? Come on Harley-Davidson, Northwestern Mutual, Kohls, etc!

This is very disturbing: Why a fight in the Milwaukee Courthouse?

It seems that this portrait in Baraboo sparked an outrage. Of course. But what was the real reason again? Let me guess: that blasted Nazi salute and of course that got Wisconsin in a bad light yet again.

I asked this question last time and I’ll ask it again: The Hallmark Christmas Show is back. Who’s still watching them?!

No offense to the Christmas decors but, why does Thanksgiving get suddenly skipped? I’m mean HELLO! Turkey Day is missing!

This is interesting: Sagittarius Season BEGINS on Thanksgiving Day. Sags: what are we thankful for 9th house rulers?

Remember when Thanksgiving shows actually was reclaiming their time?

Men, has #movember really sunk in? After all that no shave, November thing?

International Men’s Day had come and gone. Why is this day not formally recognized again? And why are the whiny feminists of the world, still treat as this day being sexist?

Speaking of Feminism: why target Kleenex for Mansize tissues again?

Wait a minute: there is a Football Game out the Nintendo Switch? Not Madden! But how do many like the MFL? As in the Mutant Football League? Rated M but this might attract those in the think tanks to actually MAKE A FOOTBALL GAME for the Switch! Madden, or make an “NFL 2K” Sports game. I’m calling this!

Men (and women),  can we remind ourselves not to complain about International Men’s Day on International Women’s Day next year in 2019?!!!

When Thanksgiving Day is here: is it Macy’s, Football and Food? or is it Macy’s, Food then FOOTBALL?

When Thanksgiving is over, and for many of us who do not work on a Friday, why is it necessary for those who work on Thanksgiving have to start the Black Friday sales all early?

Speaking of Black Friday: NO SHOPPING FOR ME! But who will be the idiot of the moment when engaging in others for stuff on sale in a violent physical bloodbath? It’s bound to happen. You know it!

Speaking of Small Business Saturday: Who will actually shop locally? No national stuff!

Speaking of Cyber Monday: Best online deals right now. Who has it?

Speaking of Giving Tuesday: Who will donate? To Schools, Organizations, Alumni, Church Groups, Fraternity, Sorority, Legion, etc?

I don’t get it. Since the victory of the recent Wisconsin midterm election, there might be some folks from the black community might call out the new administration of not being diverse enough. My question is: why aren’t many who are complaining (i.e. Facebook and Twitter) not applying?!!

Will Creed II be a hit?

In the last 100 seasons, how many games the Packers won on Thanksgiving? I know, I know. They got archives.

Yes, there was a time that the Native Americans were slaughtered outside after a church service on a Sunday, and years later it was dubbed as the National Day of Mourning. A real question: do many today know that part of the history?

Who might fill up the table that once was occupied by those who passed on?

Who will fill up the table and set a new tone for the big dinner?

And the last question before: how REALLY thankful are you? Like really?

Happy Thanksgiving!

Expect a “Be Thankful” Traditional Blog

I want to address all the students of MPS. And no, the adults do not count in this one. I want to address this with you because of what was said about you that made you upset. It’s a matter of stating that what James Widgerson calling you collectively “little convicts” was very disturbing. He is an indeed a racist calling you that. So with that, here is a blog letter for you.

Dear students of MPS:

It’s me, Stephen. And I am an Alum of the Milwaukee Public Schools.

In the last couple of days, and weeks you have been in the classrooms and I must say I wish your semester well. But in the last day and a half, you have been attacked by a grown man who labeled you as “little convicts” over the performance that continues to give the district of MPS a bad name. And the man that said it was a former students way older than you and I put together. The man, James Wigderson as I speak of was way out of line labeling you as failures being set up for the jail system. We knew what he said in his blog story. And what he said to the majority of you was again clearly stupid. It’s not your fault. And by the way, he’s an alum of MPS.

One of the Milwaukee Youth Council members had really to speak out on this matter and I must applaud the young lady, Emoni Gambrell-Toliver a student from Riverside University High School and President of the Youth Council for a chance to do that. If you have not read her statement regarding this matter, it’s a must read! Even if you are a critic of MPS.

I really hope that the build-up from all of this will decrease and also the value of our education in Milwaukee continue to rise up and prove those that it can be viable just like the outline areas outside of Milwaukee.

But we all know that today, James Wigderson was not apologizing for his remarks in the blog. He also stated that his words as a whole were not directed towards the entire students of MPS. It was about this one player, that went to Washington High School. I have to say that it was not factual. He knew what he was talking about. But just don’t want to deny that part of the truth of hating on all of you that WANT to make a difference in the world. Yes, I will agree he was hateful. He also claims that he backed school choice and charter schools and such. But he was not solid on you in general! For an extra commentary, he’s a coward. And even though his last days of education was at Vincent High School, I want to be clear that he has some soul searching in discovering that what he thought he saw was not just a concern, but to also ask what can be done to change it! I hate to say that there are those in the Alumni are real losers. Jealous that the opportunities you’re getting many of us didn’t get. And James is included in this also. He’s a loser! A racist vile hypocritical loser! And he does not care about you.

In the schools, we know there are things are not sharp enough. And I know that we see and read about the negative about MPS. But the thing is, what is missing from all this is positive! We need to read and see about your positive stories of what is going on into the schools. We need to read and see what you’re up to in a positive manner about what is up in the schools. Show us the receipts, as many of you would say! Show them to us at an Open House, a Concert, a Play, or even yes the football field or basketball court. For academics, I know that math, reading, and science are one of the subjects at hand, but show us what you’ve learned! Prove it to yourselves and us that you can do this!

MPS Students, you are indeed the future of our district. Future Alumni, Future Scholars, and future whatever it is that you want to be. Let us know what is happening in your schools. Your Games, Band and Orchestra, Debates, Communications, Mechanical Classes, and many others that you’re doing. Many of us alumni folks are so busy raising families and working to get very busy. We do. And we assumed what is taking place at the schools now is mostly negative. We want you: and I’m giving you an ongoing homework assignment here. I want you to tell us grown people that been there and done it, really tell us what is really going on in the schools. Tell us and show us your open house projects, your performances in concerts in all. Tell us how we the MPS Alumni can still support your schools! Tell us! We need to do this thing!

Before I leave you this message, I want to share this video clip from 1989:

This is from the movie called Lean on Me, which told the story of a high school in New Jersey that was once a prominent best school in the state was going poorly. But the principal played by Morgan Freeman had to do whatever necessary to get the school in the positive form. Morgan Freeman’s character was Joe Clark. And he had to lock down the school, dismiss the bad students that disrupted the school for a lot of years. Mainly drug dealers. He even challenged the students to reach their potential even if he had to make them sing the school song. This movie is based on a true story of a huge turnaround that captured the state of New Jersey. The reason why I put this clip here because Freeman’s Character Joe Clark was describing to the students what the rest of the world or the society thinks about them that want to succeed. Sound familiar?

I encourage all of you, who are high school students to get this movie. If not, ask your parents to get this movie for you and watch it over and over again. Don’t just watch the clips on youtube, watch the WHOLE movie! But I must warn you, it’s a bit graphic, mixed with overtones that might not be suitable for many. BUT GET THIS MOVIE! The prime example of this movie is the same example of this situation right now with MPS.

And also: gain from the “woke” moments of the movie that really stood out. Study them!

Finally, as I close, continue to do the things you do in the schools. Make it happen! EVERYDAY!

Sincerely,

Stephen

With all the mess still going on, we still look at memes. But like before, I will make these memes a spin on the things that I’ve been thinking about, yet again! So pay attention.

And yet we laugh and criticize Santa and Jesus. What about the orange dude that is making the White House wacky that they want to give a chance?

Labor Day is for those who work, and volunteering. But if you’re broke and pull no weight for work, why are you wasting time?! YOU HAVE BILLS!

If you didn’t vote in any election, WHY ARE YOU MAD?!!

I’ll bet many will be asking the same question for the next 45 years. Agree?

Truth bomb?!! PLEASE! Sheriff David Clarke, excuse me FORMER Sheriff David Clarke was clearly the bootlicking official that many us in Milwaukee County couldn’t stand! Glad he is gone after 15 years in the county. But alas, many of those would remember him being as this good Republican fan and Democratic always Sheriff, and barely plagiarizing thesis papers. I wonder why?

I assume that I’m not the only Milwaukeean that misses this Whale Painting?

When the beat drops, we on the floor. Agree?

Let me guess, you just found out about the Family Picnic or the Special Occasion and they forgot your name on the list. And they say that afterwards well: you missed a treat. Or you missed out on a good time. BUT WHERE WAS THE INVITE?!

You already know that Sunday School is not that bad. Why the tripping?!

Question: But did YOU REALLY VOTE? Don’t act you didn’t.

Oh, yes. It’s time for kiddos to go back. What about this feeling that many parents really knows?

Pastors: Is this your “post look reaction” after meeting with 45?

Yes, that is how Harley-Davidson got started with a Bicycle. And after 115 years, despite of the tariffs hammered by the 45 idiot, who still wants a Harley for real?

Why was the WWE Intercontinental Championship was just tossed around like a toy anyway?

Some folks really need to shut up and not gossip. Agree or disagree? They need to stop.

Oh I’m hearing about Churches and ATM’s. Why there are assumptions about it? Hmmm….. Don’t have one in my church home.

Man listen:

If you walk around being all hyper conscious and being messy: It happens!

If you thought that Jesus’ mom Mary was a side chick: Stop playing.

If you thought that 45’s wall will actually be a trophy: It wont.

If you think that ALL the Churches is still full of hypocrites, all about the money holy rollers and dismiss those who actually want to work hard in the sanctuary to improve it for the better: what about this thought in asking?

If you thought that Scott Walker is a saving grace for Wisconsin: Nope.

If you thought that Black Pastors that met with 45 represent the whole black pastors community: Wrong.

If you actually really think that being woke will get you places that putting down those who disagree with you: Not even close.

If you thought about Chicago’s violent concerns and not lifting a finger to help out, but being a stupid keyboard gangster online: Well what?

If you think that anyone wears dark blue works for Walmart, or wear red that works for Target. WHICH I CANNOT STAND! It’s funny folks don’t read nametags or recognize Walmart or Target store symbols on them.

If you think that Single folks are lonely: False.

If you REALLY THOUGHT that the Bible is evil and provide scripted lies: You ain’t listening.

If you think that the only way to pay for Funerals is Go-Fund Me: Stop that.

If you ACTUALLY THOUGHT those whom are non-speaking as much are “Anti-Social”: Oh let me count the ways.

If you really thought that Generation X is that group of folks that can’t mount to anything: That’s a dumb thought.

If you really thought (Ladies) that all men are dogs that got your mind thought up since your mother, grandmother, aunts and other female friends said since your younger days: Blame the DNA!

If you thought that all folks in the Black Community are lazy and not working. Or being trained in school: Try again, non black folks.

If you thought that any thing else that is worth saying that will get you noticed: Which is false.

Guess what –
MASSIVE CALLOUT: CONGRATS! YOU JUST GOT PLAYED!

Now how do you REALLY feel?

We the citizens of Wisconsinites have good news and bad news from August 14th.

Some of the good news was somewhat surprising that winners like Earnell Lucas won the seat to become a fresh new Sheriff of Milwaukee County, thus making the acting Sheriff Dr. Richard Schmidt finishing his term until the beginning of January 2019. Here’s the thing, Earnell was laser focused in my opinion last year to make a run for sheriff. Should have been when David Clarke was still in power. But last year, after his famous ride was rising up, David Clarke was on his way out of the picture supporting his boy Donald Trump. And yes we had a year of a somewhat relief of a breather when acting sheriff Richard Schmidt took over the remaining term of the job until his parts of his education or somewhat doctorates degree was questioned. Plus also the thought in relation to domestic disputes of following laws in a recent commentary. But that was the tip of the iceberg. Between that and now recently, Earnell Lucas pinned the thought of erasing a bad memory of David Clarke out of the picture by defeating the person that left him the post, Dr. Richard Schimidt. Well, guess what? After a year and a half – it seems that the goal is completed. And again after Dr. Schmidt gets done once and for all with retirement, the era of Future Sheriff Earnell Lucas will begin with a fresh start and a fresh opportunity to hopefully restore the idea of respect for the Sheriff’s Office that David Clarke in my view DISRESPECTED politically! He goofed up! Most of his 15 years, Clarke Slipped up. Being all that. So with that, Earnell Lucas, an MPS Alum of Rufus King High School, actually got the idea through of all folks: the late great Eric Von.

But that was the good news.

Now here comes the bad news that I think is majority mixed for the Democratic Side. I’ve said this on numerous occasions that I was using the phrase “Bet on Mahlon Mitchell.” And the thing is he was gaining his traction in which would have viewed the voters in terms of looking at a different candidate than the likes of Kathleen Vinehout or better yet, Tony Evers. Well as we knew at the end of Tuesday night that Tony Evers won the majority of the State of Wisconsin taking 67 out of the 72 Counties. And to add also, Tony Evers had the momentum swing since last year. Unlike those who used different platforms in the beginning, Evers Supporters were playing like ninjas and actually build their game without any loud noises in the background. And used that momentum to their advantage. Part of this, that Evers never came to Milwaukee. Also, they say that the Educators were in Evers’ support, BUT NOT EVERY EDUCATOR backed Evers! This was like in my view: Since Evers got picked, already many are saying we just gave Scott Walker 4 more years. The game is over right there. If this would have been Mahlon Mitchell it would have been a lot more different than it is now. Just my point of view. Another reason Evers won is name recognition.

So now, it’s Tony Evers being the Democratic front-runner along with potential Lt. Governor Candidate, Mandela Barnes going against Scott Walker and Rebecca Kleefisch. By the way, I’ve met Mandela on several occasions and yes we are alums of the same high school of John Marshall in Milwaukee.

And some see this I hate to say again: partially, Walker wins another 4 years. I hate to say it. And part of it I think that part would not energize the base of Democrats in Milwaukee. Mainly in the parts of the Black Community, that is part of the base! For all the fans of the Tony Evers that is just now realizing this, I hate to say that part of this, its the truth. It’s the absolute truth that a neighborhood in the Lincoln Creek Area or the Halyard Park Area may not be as viewable for the areas like Outagamie or Sussex. And having Tony Evers signs all around. I think the only way that Evers/Barnes would have to be gainfully successful is to be more engaged than Walker. Keep in mind, Scott Walker has been playing career politician since 1993. The very same 1993 that I was in High School. And we know that in the same 1993 he dropped out of Marquette Univerity to go into politics. And around 2002 as many in Milwaukee realize that he was the County Executive and one of the bad things he did was killing off some Bus Routes and raising Bus Fares for many who had to get to work, school or leisure. I remember basically that moment because I rode the bus a lot. I didn’t have a car to get around Milwaukee until 2005. That was dumb on Walker. Real stupid. When he became Governor as he is now, so far: Education has been slashed of money, Unions was picked apart harshly, The High Speed Rail that would have connected Milwaukee to Madison and to be apart of the midwest region to connect never happened and the contract that agreed was breached and the company Talgo sued the state. Plus he thought that the money was expensive. And there were so-called Wisconsinites between Waukesha and Jefferson County didn’t want to see black folks from Milwaukee  per se on the train. When you think about it: RACISM! SEGREGATION! I went there. Oh, there was chance that the Hard Rock Cafe Casino was supposed to come here where the Dairyland Race Park is currently in Kenosha, but guess what HE TURNED THAT DOWN! Probably didn’t like the idea of being in competition of Potawatomi Bingo Casino. Like the High Speed Rail, the Casino would have created JOBS! And Walker during his campaign talked about 250,000 jobs. Right now, the job creation number is no where near 250,000. None! And this guy wants to be Govenor again with a High School Diploma hanging in his closet.

So……we are stuck in the rock and a hard place in this time of things being challenged and showing receipts. But between now and November 6th, ask yourself that question: where does Wisconsin go from here?

Where does Wisconsin go from here after all this matter is cleared?

Where does Wisconsin go from here when it’s African American citizens are being constant questioned about about their names, civilized activities, and many other concerns that are not being addressed?

Where does Wisconsin go from here overall?

I’ll save those questions after the 12 weeks are done.

Before anyone in Milwaukee gets bent out of shape about the up and coming People’s Flag: I need every Milwaukeean no matter what age or generation to closely listen up. Even if you moved out or just don’t know. I don’t know why I’m talking about this. But, whatever.

It seems to me that this whole while, we’ve been talking about a Flag. The city’s current flag being a “hot mess”, outdated and not up to par of the current status of what’s going on now. It ain’t hip, I know.

For this, I unlike many, who didn’t took the time to read about the history of things of how it came to be. Let me put it like this: many of you are “flag sensitive” about this. But I’m here to help you about the meaning behind the “so called worst flag” for the Brew City from my point of view, with facts.

OK. Let’s start with this.

Stop the sensitive crap and grow up. Let’s go over to see what this so-called “hot mess” actually means. Like many of things, I’m going from left to right.

Starting from the left: That funny looking yellow thing there represents wheat and barley. All that beer you drink from MillerCoors or Pabst comes from that. Moving on, is the old Milwaukee County Stadium. And I’m assuming who used to play there. The next building as many know is the Panther Arena. Or for you old heads: the MECCA. Towards the center is a building we see near 200 East Wells Street is City Hall. Another building towards the right is more industrial buildings of the same meaning of industrialization. The boat with the water waves shown symbolizes the port. As in the Port of Milwaukee. Port of Goods. And many of you got offended by this cross. To be specific, that almost resembles the Basilica neighborhood on the South Side. And I know many have been there besides morning mass. It’s a church, folks.

The “1846” is what you ask? The founding year of the city. The big cog in the center is the main feature in which it is symbolic for manufacturing history. Like our Harley-Davidson Motorcycles, and other manufacturing parts we produced here. And currently.

Inside of the Cog, are three symbols. One of them is a head of a Native American. Let’s be calm here, its yet to believe that is symbolic of it’s connections of it’s earlier settlers whom happened to be Native Americans. How do you think Milwaukee got it’s name? Its also saying, millioke , the Good Land.

The little flag for most almost resembles a service flag or a Civil War-Era flag. And the last mini symbol in contrast has a connection to the Milwaukee Public Library.

Now for all of the “flag sensitive folks”, I need to ask, do you all get that? Is this making sense? I had to research this over and over again just to get a sense of understanding of what this is without learning a darn thing!

Of course many will not know because many will not do their homework! Like I said, do your research, please.

Other questions loom up. Now I know this has to be far fetching, but what about the family of the creators that designed and made the city flag? Did anyone from the common council community, mayor’s office, or the people’s flag folks ever talked to them? I would speak on that. The descendants of the late Alderman Fred Steffan needs to be contacted face to face. Why I’m referencing them you ask? I think would be benefiting that Mayor Tom Barrett, the entire Milwaukee Common Council, the Milwaukee Arts Board, the representatives of the People’s Flag of Milwaukee, historians and most of all, the family of the late Alderman needs to have a “city flag conference” about stating why the city flag would be updated with the current design. The family I believe, needs to be contacted. I don’t know the family, but if I were one of the committee members or flag art reps, I would bring them into the conversation. The descendants are still out there and one of them did an interview with the Journal Sentinel several years ago about this subject. And I mentioned that subject here.

Well earlier today, there was a public discussion about the flag and it’s objective use. I’m talking about the people’s flag here. And yes, the creators gave their incentive about the reason why it was chosen, from the brainstorming of young and old, even black folks that shocked me a bit. The 1,000 designs and then the main five chosen for finals. The one got picked on Flag Day 2016 came to this:

Yes this is the flag that was chosen. According to the creation of this, it’s description as follows via the CRWFlags.com website:
The flag is horizontally divided orange-dark blue. In the center is placed a disk, whose upper part, located on the orange stripe, is white, and whose lower part, located on the blue stripe, is lighter blue with two horizontal dark blue stripes. The meaning of the flag is the following: “The sun rising over Lake Michigan symbolizes a new day. The light blue bars in its reflection represent the city’s three rivers and founding towns. Gold symbolizes our brewing history and white represents the city united.”

During the Common Council Meeting, which you can see via the City’s website, yes there were talks about symbolism. The “sunrise” for example was inspired believe it or not is from an unlikely source: the City of Milwaukee’s Seal.

Look at the center of the seal. What you see is a house, a tower like structure of a lighthouse, a human figure that probably resembles a founder or settler. But the viewpoint by the land, is Lake Michigan. And the Sun is rising over the Lake. So yes, that is where the People’s Flag folks got parts of it’s Sunrise from: The city’s seal.

And yes there talks about flags giving power or meaning. There were references of the American Flag with the colors of Red, White and Blue. The Red and White Stripes signify the Original 13 Colonies with meanings of Hardness/Valor for the Red, and the Purity/Innocence for the color White. As far as the Blue: Vigilance, Perseverance and Justice. And the 50 stars, which represents the States. And for the record, Old Glory is not being replaced. That is thrown out. Stop the hype on that!

After all the questions and comments, there were some additional comments about taxpayers, the funding, sensitivity, branding, ownership, design creation copyrights, new identification, etc. But there will be additional talks for another couple of months towards the end of the year to see where the idea goes from here.

My advice: those ideas I described earlier, probably needs to happen. And for the record, not everyone uses the internet, texting or Social Media. And I would like to see if possible, put that on the ballot. Since it’s a “people’s project,” put it where the people can decide in voting. A referendum. And of course, talk it over with the whole city! Not just the usual 6,000 plus that represents Milwaukee online! The population is well over 600,000.

And if officially, the “S” in my Stephen’s Spot Photo logo and cover photo might change the colors of the ideal flag. Don’t call me a fan yet. The jury is still out.

I have been saving a Three Way Dance for quite a while now. And it’s always needed. Matter of fact, it’s still needed. Even if the old blogs will be retired. More on that later. But like the title, it’s time to do a three way because of the situation right now even if you love calling on black folks doing right.

First Dance on the card: What is it about white folks, who call the police on black folks doing positive or civilized activities?

Barbecues, selling water, doing paper routes, cleaning up trash on a freeway, waiting to be serviced on meals, paying for meals, driving while being black, doing inspections and many other things doing WHILE BEING BLACK! What is the problem here? What is the real problem here? It seems to me that there are paranoid idiots out here that don’t know jack about a certain individual or groups that aren’t doing anything negative to get attention. When I was back in high school, one of my former band teachers used to say all the time, “do something constructive with yourselves.” And she was white. And its been about 23 years now.

Hmmm…….this got to be reminded that many of us have been doing constructive like Barbecuing, or whatever ideas that might get those riled up with cell phones calling the cops. Some said on Social Media that whenever a white person whom has the cell phone calling the police, there should be retaliation by saying that “we’ll sue them or put a fine on them for doing things that are constructive.” Yes, black folks can also be constructive and doing activities that don’t harm NO ONE! Somebody is probably saying what kinds of things they do? Open your eyes. Long time ago, when Fox 6 Milwaukee had their blogs going, someone whom was a white blogger at the time talked about or asked why can’t black people do things like dipping Doritos? No seriously! “Dipping Doritos?!” That was the most ungodly dumb question I’ve seen in my life. I know that “no question is a dumb question” means more in 2018 like 1995, but this was a dumb question as is. This whole thing is silly and dumb. And this keeps up, it’s going to be a problem. And I would not be surprised that retaliation of justice will come up. Mark my words. Remember those words about being constructive, or being civil.

Second Dance on the Card: I need to address this – Puerto Rico is part of the U.S.

On Facebook, I was looking at this footage about this white dude in Illinois kept going towards this young lady about her shirt, a Puerto Rican Shirt and stating that she shouldn’t be wearing that in the United States. The young lady’s name, Mia Irizarry recorded the entire footage about this subject and yes review the footage to refresh your memory.

The dude kept going on and on about the whole “she’s not an American thing” by wearing a Puerto Rican shirt and oh, the cop in the background looking at this, does absolutely NOTHING! No movements, no arrests, nothing. It’s almost like he’s standing there and not making any advancements or law and order to cease all this in a manner. Is this what the new normal of law enforcement work is now? Later on the rest of the squad showed up and told the man whom did all the harassment, was told that the park was a public place. Plus Mia was using the park area for a Birthday Party. As I looked at this, and yes there might be someone say that Puerto Rico is part of the U.S. Actually – It’s long mentioned that it was a territory of the U.S. since 1898. We’re talking about to be exact: 120 years. That’s right, 120 years as part of the U.S. The United States as a whole is 242 years old as we know from the holiday of July 4th. And when Puerto Rico became a U.S. Territory in 1898, the U.S. was just 122 years old as it’s own nation. Like many in families, many of us have relatives whom may and are related being Puerto Rican. I too have relatives whom are mixed cousins whom are Puerto Rican. They are my blood relatives, my kinfolk and yes family! And for the record, majority of my family members are black. If someone were to approach them after what Mia experienced there will be an all out protection. Not because they are of Puerto Rican decent, but they are my family members. They are cousins of mine. I would defend them to the fullest. Period! If a drunk dude get at an angle of being hostile, the defense will be up. Oh, just an update here, word is that the officer had be relieved for desk duty and the guy got charged for the hate crime.

Third Dance on the card: Wisconsin’s Democratic Gubernatorial contenders.

Yesterday, the City of Milwaukee, really the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee recently had the 1st and only Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Debate. Yes it was televised on TV and the Internet plus radio. The 8 contenders: Mike McCabe, Kathleen Vinehout, Josh Pade, Tony Evers, Matt Flynn, Paul Soglin, Kelda Roys, and Mahlon Mitchell. In the 1hour and 30 plus minute mark of the debate, the remaining 8 contenders referenced the various topics including Foxconn, Education, and Justice Reform. Many of the candidates had ideas in all, but one of them stood out the most to me was………Mahlon Mitchell. I’m going to say that Mahlon is becoming a fan favorite because the articulation of his ideas and philosophy really sunk in very well. I would best believe that Mahlon Mitchell is obviously a new fresh choice that would boost the interest of the state.

And yes, he is black. Remember what I said that in one of my “Scratching my head all this time” blogs that Wisconsin turned 170 years old in May, and about the 8% of African Americans living in the state? Plus I also said that Wisconsin in it’s history never had a black governor that led the state. That is a fact. But the question is, and I’m putting this out, is Wisconsin ready for a governor that is African Decent? Can it be done in a state that most of the folks locked up in jail happen to be African-American, which dictate the sentiment of the “Worst State for Black People” moniker? And the high unemployment of those living in the rough neighborhoods of Milwaukee?  This should NOT scare anyone with Wisconsinites. Maybe the rural/suburban folks. But “this convo” has been long discussed in the African-American areas of the state that many in Wisconsin will not go to. Or will not talk about. Does Tony Evers or Kathleen Vinehout go to the inner city area of Milwaukee? Nope! What about the other candidates whom have no Milwaukee ties? None. Oh, they might talk about it from afar, but not in person! And keep in mind that Wisconsin’s African-American Population is hovering around the 8% percent. It’s small. And the majority of the African-American population is in the South East Area of the state. Oh, the current Governor like Walker doesn’t really care about the Milwaukee Area that much.

I’m going to bet that Mahlon would be a “surprise front runner” for this election. And the thing is, here it is back in 2011-12 that he and Tom Barrett were going all over the state competing for the chair in Madison. Then losing to Walker. Now it’s his turn and doing it well with growth. So guess what, I’m betting on Mahlon on August 14th. And plus most recently, his fundraising status was boosted more than the contenders competing. And this was between January and June of this year. And unlike the other Democratic contenders, he didn’t use no loans to help boost his funds. NOPE! Not him! It’s self-funded. Old school self-funded style.

We’ll see after August 14th. In which also that many will cast a ballot of their choosing to take down Scott Walker.

This is an excerpt that is from the Stephen’s Spot Facebook Page. Yesterday, the Milwaukee Police Department lost an Officer that was on duty during a high pursuit of a suspect driver. The department is shocked by this incident as well as the family.

SSP_MemorialTribute_MPD

No matter how you feel about the Police in general, we know that the supporters are in full force in all. BUT the officer, Charles Irvine, Jr. whom has passed on, had a family and also was in pursuit of a fast paced driver, at age 23.

We in the community mourn the loss of this officer. And also, we also have mixed feelings about the police in terms of brutality, racism, crimes, etc. But not today. Be in prayer for the family of this officer.

The last time an active officer was killed in the line of duty in Milwaukee: 1996 and it was Wendolyn O. Tanner.

Sidenote: The Funeral of the late officer is being planned at this time. This has definitely rocked the core of the Milwaukee Police Department, and the driver that the cops were chasing has been caught. It was a reckless driver that is one of many that the police is still on the hunt to arrest and investigate in all areas. Like many in the community I choose not to celebrate harshly about this officer’s life. No I do not! Again, we all have mixed feelings about the police, especially if you are Black! We know what it is. We say: Black Lives Matter, but the supporters spun it and came out with “Blue Lives Matter.” That moniker is not flying today. Yes, his life mattered. Not because he was a cop, but he had a family to support. Officer Irvine came in at age 19 as a Police Aide for the City of Milwaukee and 2 1/2 years later, he was a cop for the city. Think about the times when we were 23. For him: his life was just getting started, but cut short.

Again: whether you like the police or not. Or if you back the badge or not back it up, but know this: the family is in shock. They lost someone close to them.
