Folks: it is now time to archive the year 2019. Its time that the year of the Pig is to be archived in the Pig Pen. But of course, the living examples of voting, racism, protesting, and yet many others will linger on. We’ll know, it’s about time that the year of 2019, is now over. But before that happens of dropping balls and popping corks: lets us review the year that was.

So now, in that case, it’s time for the Traditional Stephen’s Spot Annual Review blog of 2019! It’s time to review, summarize and learn from the year has gone by very efficiently.

According to the recent reports, the unemployment rate around Wisconsin is hovering at 3.3%. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

For the Wisconsin Badgers Football team: The team has a few downs and mostly ups. Well mostly, ups in this. The team finished 10-3 overall in the 2019 Season. Winnings were best against Michigan, Nebraska, Michigan State, and yes, Minnesota. Plus claiming the Big Ten West Title and not the Big Ten Championship vs Ohio State. Jonathan Taylor becomes the latest Badger to finish with his Second Doak Award. Also, after his missed season which was a disaster, Quintez Cephus was reinstated after he was found NOT GUILTY of FALSE Sexual Charges. And had a monster year since coming back to the Badgers. And recently qualified for a bowl game, a ROSE BOWL game to challenge Oregon in a Rose Bowl Rematch from 2012.

Milwaukee Police Department goes after Reckless Drivers in the Hot Spot Zones of the city. Just like last year. AGAIN.

For the Green Bay Packers: quite a turn around! They hired Matt Lafleur as the new HC, got some new talent mostly on Defense from ZaDarius Smith, Preston Smith, and Rashan Gray. Aaron Rodgers was finding his groove, Aaron Jones was having a monster year along with Jamaal Williams, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Allen Lazard. Plus, the Special Teams were stellar. And as of now, their record stood at 13-3 in the regular season, in which they won the NFC North Title for the first time in two seasons, and secured the Number 2 Seed in the NFL Playoffs, which is a Bye.

Plus the team unveiled a new logo and design of colors of Navy Blue and Yellow to signify the 50th Anniversary of the team’s founding for 2020. The Bad Nationally

Racism struck again in America. And it has not been nice.

Most of the Black Republicans were not very vocal against the 45.

The Mueller Report ended due to “facts” of the lying of 45 via Wikileaks.

The Senate Republicans of course support 45 of his antics and decisions.

School and Church Shootings in America had ties to Mass shootings this year over 400 in total.

Alex Trebek of “Jeopardy!” announced he was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. Not just him, but also Congressman John Lewis was recently diagnosed with the same condition.

Matthew Knowles, Beyonce and Solange’s Father was recently diagnosed and free from Breast Cancer.

Stabbings in New York around Hanukkah, 2019.

Many of the Caucasian Americans had false accusations of Black folks ranging from barbecuing, shopping, entering their place of residence, jobs, campaigns and many other constructive ideas and objectives. And now, that might be against the law.

The state of Black Hair on Black Women remained a suspect of those who hate it.

Several members of the 45 Administration were fired or resigned despite the position of power. The usual happened again.

Bill Cosby – formally known as America’s Favorite Dad, recent fired off vs Eddie Murphy after his appearance on SNL on December 21st.

Families are still separated near the U.S. Mexico Border.

The 45 Administration just recent signed into law regarding creating a Space Force.

Blackface still remains a racist concept. Especially among white students on PWI Campuses.

In addition to the officers killed in Milwaukee, other officers in different parts of the Country also passed on in and off duty. Slightly higher than 2017.

Hurricane Dorian.

The United Methodist Church’s General Conference had made one of the worst moves in terms of not allowing the LGBT to serve or to partake in a regular style worship service based on their lifestyle, etc. However some have stepped up and were fighting back against the conservatism of the members and groups that opposed it. The fight still lingers.

Despite of the Dow Jones being up in normal ranges, many felt it has not favored everyone in the country.

The Democrats had been on survival mode mostly against each other in the debates and contenders like Kamala Harris, Beto O’Rourke have dropped out. Plus also the contenders still struggle and trying to find a way to appease to the African-American base.

Kanye West meeting with Joel Osteen after his debut album of Jesus is King. Then many realized that it was sketchy and weird after his recently encounters with 45.

The ongoing talk of 45’s Wall.

The Bad Locally

Racism, of course, struck Wisconsin. Not just in Milwaukee.

For the first time in nearly 56 years, the Milwaukee Veterans Parade was altered due to lack of funding support.

This year back in the summer, former WRRD Host of the Forum Sherwin Hughes announced his farewell from Talk Radio. And not only that the station he previous worked at was not very nice and racist. Keep in mind this was a LEFT WING PROGRESSIVE RADIO STATION! However, most recently he returned to his own organization, “Leaders for a Better Community” and has been on the radio as a guest to talk about his viewpoints on the climate of politics in Milwaukee. Sherwin’s last day on the radio was September 10th.

A little controversial decision via the Wisconsin GOP in their meddling in regarding the honoring of African Americans in the state, which concerned former San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick. But….The City of Milwaukee honored him in response. Later on in the year, another member of the Wisconsin GOP, Rep. Scott Allen wanted to have white figures to be added to the Black History Resolution for 2020. But the black politicians like Sen. Lena Taylor commented that in her words: “Once again we have a non-black state legislator deciding who should be honored in the state legislature’s 2020 Black History Month resolution,” she said. “Without consulting black state legislators, Rep. Scott Allen, at 4pm on a Friday, before the Christmas break, issues a Black History month resolution. This is an insult and disgraceful.” via DailyKaos.com

For the second time in two years, two more Police Officers from the Milwaukee Police Department were killed off and on duty.

A tried attempt to acquire more federal funds for the Milwaukee Streetcar fell short in trying to expand the Vel Philips Avenue area to the Fiserv Forum.

Foxconn still remained in question about the legality of access to jobs and government.

By the numbers: The number of homicides in Milwaukee was at 102.

Opioids in the rural areas were mostly a problem and it remains a dilemma to this day.

Like last year, the unlikely viewpoint of White Women and some men calling the police on African-Americans due to being civilized and doing constructive aspects. Even jobs. Such as : Barbecuing While Black, Campaigning While Black, Working While Black, and Volunteering While Black.

Voter Suppression was unleashed harshly in several states. Especially among elderly black folks. And to add, names on the voter rolls began to be purged.

Blackfaces. Yep, even in Wisconsin!

The Ugly Locally

As much as everyone likes the University of Wisconsin, the Homecoming Video featuring most of white student population was pulled that had reminders of the University’s checkered past of racism. And many of the black and minority students called out the school’s racism angles including UW Senior, Payton Wade.

The state was informed that approximately 200,000 citizens names might be “purged” due to moving or not updating their voter stats.

The State of Wisconsin ordered the Homeless near the Marquette Interchange (aka Tent City) to be removed due to health and safety concerns.

Plus is that not even ugly enough for 2019: One of our hotels in Milwaukee, the Comfort Suites on Park Place does not want any Milwaukee Citizens in 30 miles settling in to their hotel. Even one of our Alderwomen Chantia Lewis was denied access to stay. But our local Milwaukee Black Panthers protested that place in the result of their actions.

Final Take:

And the final analysis of my point of view: Well this has been a year of blogging. I’ve tried my best to fill in as much as I can, but the thing is all hasn’t been that bad. If many took the chance, I do this on the Stephen’s Spot Facebook Page and Twitter Page to extend the news and viewpoints to gain more twists and turns to get the gears going. Of course the old stuff mattered. But what does matter IS THE NEW! I’ve talked about topics that mainly affect the concerns and needs of the people. And if you’re one of the online folks that jumped aboard, well you’re on time. Kind of late, but……

Now I must say this. If you the audience no matter where you’re from and if you checked out this blog beforehand or just now tuning in, thank you. Yes, this blog site has reached over 1,000 plus posts and over 25,000 hits. But likewise, there is so much to unpack. Ideas like health, finance, employment, gender rights of Men and Women, introversion, Voting, my city of Milwaukee, religion, social media false postings and opinions, and other avenues to explore. Even as a black man in America, I too must write my stories because nobody else can the way I do.

Knowing that yes, writing blog posts was and is, definitely hard work! It’s not easy at times, but when it’s on your mind to know and summarize of what’s going on in your community, that is when you get your mind jogging and get to work.

1,000+ posts are good. But the best is still YET to come!

Happy New Year!

2020 IS NEXT.

What up, Sagittarius folks! Our season is back for another year. Another chance to celebrate us even if we are November born or December Born. Oh yes, it’s our time to shine up. Me however, it’s #43 for my December 5th Birthday and another turning point that is willing to grasp.

This Sagittarius Season we are in, it’s the almost last one of the 2010’s. The questions for us archers what were the best Sag-Related Seasons we had since the beginning of the 2010’s? What were the best ones you think that stuck out for us in the Archer Nation that we can still shoot the target all day everyday? Yes, we are at the end of the year and many are going to be reflecting about the times what got in, what sucked and what was the things that made the year overall. Plus also many of us will be asking what was the best moments that you will take into the next year, and what will be left behind in the soon to be previous year and never to be seen or heard or talked about ANYMORE! So yes, SagNation we need to ask what will be the best to take with us into the next decade and what will be dead to us in this soon to be almost close to the 2010’s decade. While shooting the arrows with our bows and keep that horse-style confidence in all seasons. Yes, the Capricorns are next. We know that. But technically, what about it Sags?

The art of rest can take a chance on us archers. But here is a video segment on why it’s important to do so. Listen up:

You just heard it here . The keyword is rest. Amber Khan aka The Quietest Revolution put the nail on the head in concerns that the keyword for us Archers is REST! I had a pastor to tell me to take ONE DAY of rest, and drink one bottle of water. Why? Because at the time, I was back and forth with my sister from the hospital and her home. This was in 2016, several months before my father passed. Actually it was about October 2016. However the pastor was right, it worked. We all get in all high gear in sense of doing work for others and yes it wears us out. I don’t know how that us Archer folks get tired of meaningful work, but like any other sign out there, we need to check ourselves at times to gain some rest and get rejuvenated for the day after. So in a sense, while we are shooting our arrows like crazy all day every day against the common enemy or problem, we need to take a serious one day break. It ain’t gonna hurt. But we need to. They say us Sags have a power within the hips and thighs. And our arrow shooting techniques rely on our thinking and intelligence, along with our philosophical ideals of truth seeking and great fire of vengeance, we also need to take a real rest and get recharged for the second time around. Oh yes, we know the Capricorns are coming. They got next. But this is not about them, yet.

Hold up: straight from the novel, “The Little Book of Self-Care for Sagittarius” the author and astrologer, Constance Stellas had two examples of tips to keep our Sag minds and physicals stuff on point, all day, everyday. By the way, you need this in your libraries and bookshelves at home:

AVOID BURNOUT!
Source: “The Little Book of Self-Care for Sagittarius” Constance Stellas
2019

So yes Sags, between now and the next time we turn up, take some rest. Take a break. If someone has a common goal to fix or to take over the missions you individually or a group sense to command, have that Sag Member or Members to take over until you reclaim your main target shooting. Oh yes, it can happen. And yes, it will allow you to have a balance of what you need to do and want to do. After all, we are a balanced zodiac sign, right? Half human and Half Horse? All them other signs are all animals and humans. We got the balance, archer folks. Let’s use them everyday between now and the next Sag Season to close out for real, the 2010’s. Actually the 2010’s really end on December 31st, 2020. And the 2020’s start on January 1st, 2021.

From : “The Little Book of Self-Care for Sagittarius” by author and astrologer, Constance Stellas .

So anyway, I hope many of us SagNation folks had partied up, turned up, shot our arrows like crazy with the purple and blue all the 30 days between Nov. 22 and soon to be, December 21st. But yet, keep the fire lit, stoke the flames, reflect on this Sag Season that was, and sometime next year in November, start again to roam with the rest of the Centaurs.

We got this, Sagittarius folks. Keep riding, keep shooting with intelligence and strength. But also, get some rest!

Happy Birthday to Us!

Here are the rules: Everyone knows how this goes yet again. And it’s really simple. No need to link or google or even #Hashtag. Today, many around the country and in the household or other areas, we Americans will be celebrating that holiday of food called Thanksgiving. From the Parades to the NFL Games, Dog Shows, or other new traditional ideas that will boost the food day. And yes, there will be us going out to the clubs and shaking off the pounds to get loose for Christmas. Or staying home for the house parties. Or just now, folks going shopping. Really?!

And yes, there will be constant reminders of the horrors that our Native American brothers and sisters will not participate in this Thanksgiving Day due to the killing of their ancestors outside of a church on a Sunday morning many moons ago. Henceforth, The National Day of Mourning. We know this. And our Native brothers/sisters are marking 50 years of that horrible reminder that is constantly missed in our schools. It actually happened.

But this holiday, yes does have the two words of Be Thankful for the things and ideas we already have. So here in its 12th Anniversary tradition, here is another traditional Stephen’s Spot Thanksgiving Blog of “Be Thankful”. Break out the tablets, Smartphones, PC’s or laptops. Start reading!

If you have a GOOD PAYING job that is good for you and it pays well for you or family, be thankful.

If you don’t have a job and still looking and STILL not quitting by going to the job fairs or making connections, be thankful!

If you have good insurance, either health, auto, home, vision, or dental STILL be thankful.

If you have a good car or truck that gets you to work every day, and still runs well with or without repairs, be thankful.

If you have a new home, or fixing up your old home, or investing in a home you grew up in and not selling it to those who want to rent out, but want it for life even more: BE THANKFUL!

If you FINALLY have a good doctor or you still don’t have one, but still want to get that monkey (and constant NAGGING) off your back, STILL be thankful about improving your health. And STILL trying. Take your time!

Now I need to say this: If you found out that you have a chronic illness like Diabetes, and you had a devastating moment of asking why it happened and didn’t have the words. But also you had conversations and online postings about those who have it already and knows the feelings of the battles, and you learn from them and they can inspire you to be better and get with the program of what they know, and still believe that it’s possible that you control diabetes and not let it get the best of you. In this month of National Diabetes Awareness Month: BE THANKFUL that you have a support system that can back you up. STICK WITH THE PLANS!

If you have a cool dentist and he or she is good and professional, be thankful.

Like any year, if you have lost any loved one this year or years past, and still feel down that the space is empty or the chair is empty, and you want to fill it up with a new generation of family members that want to pull ahead, even close friends, we must try to be thankful to carry on. It’s hard, but we must. I still miss my father, and like last year, my Thanksgiving will be different without him.

If you had folks praying for you all year for all the things you’ve been experienced no matter good or bad, be thankful that there are folks that know, and are in your corner.

If you are expecting a raise in 2020 and will be getting it, be thankful!

Do you still love your gifts and talents that are unappreciated? And still, do them all the time? Be thankful!

If you still got your parents and/or relatives as your back up, be thankful that they still care.

If you had a sibling in the freaking hospital more than once, who is being taken care of and heard good news about coming home, and I know this AGAIN: STILL BE THANKFUL!

Got any good neighbors that know you no matter how long? Be thankful.

Met any new neighbors lately? Be thankful.

Moved to a different city recently that you feel is best? Be thankful.

Moved back to a city that is best? Be Thankful.

Got a good plan to get that next step in your career, or a different career, and a mindset? Be thankful.

For all of my church folks: if you want your Church to succeed despite those want it to fail due to jealousy, BE THANKFUL that you are willing to fight!

If your birthday or anniversary is coming up or it already happened, be thankful!

If you are STILL very introverted and darn proud of it, and not ashamed to tell about it or embrace it, be thankful!

Single and not in a relationship? Be thankful.

Married with or without kids? Be thankful.

Single and no kids? Be thankful.

Single with kids? Be Thankful.

Divorced? Be thankful.

You still have a church home that you stay and willing to have your kids to grow IN THE CHURCH? Be thankful.

If you have been given a side gig, and love it to be paid with that cash money or checks, no matter what it is, be thankful.

Men, did you celebrate International Men’s Day in #Movember? Be Thankful!

Got a good pet or know a pet that knows you well? Be thankful.

If you STILL give back to your community, your Alumni, your Church, your Scholarship Committees, your Fraternity, your Sorority, your Unions or other groups that have been treating you good all this time, be thankful!

If you STILL appreciate the value of your former teachers or coaches, or former principals, of anyone that knew your value of education, be thankful.

If you put in the work to show up at your meetings even if you see the same people time after time, be thankful!

If you can’t wait to eat the meal that gives you life, be thankful you can still eat the grub.

Still avoiding fake news? Be thankful. They suck.

If you read the old blogs that I can’t control the reading, but still want to read what I want to say regardless from my black point of view, be thankful! Not just for me, but for you.

If you STILL got stuff in your house that you want to give away, be thankful. Somebody will take it.

Still fighting Racism, White Supremacy, Sexism, and others? – Be Thankful.

Got a good business handy? And it’s good for you to make that money like Uber or Lyft or It Works? Hey, be thankful!

If you switch your career to a new company in the past year or will go to a new company to come, be thankful!

Own a business? Got your own time schedule? Invested in a product or material that worked? Be thankful.

If you got many reachable sources to give, or to provide, or to share, or to support, and it’s really catching on, you better be thankful!

If you are planning to vote in 2020, be thankful! Get your ballots ready.

If you are looking forward to another holiday weekend of fun, be thankful.

If you are NOT shopping on Black Friday, but willing to spend Black Friday outdoors in the woods or parks, Be Thankful! It’s a release to avoid a violent backlash.

If you are not shopping on Black Friday, but willing to spend your cash at a local business, or on Cyber Monday, be thankful.

If you are donating to your favorite charity on Giving Tuesday, Be thankful!

If you can’t wait to finally deck your halls for Christmas or Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa, AFTER Thanksgiving (some of you did it ahead of time) Be Thankful.

If you criticized 45 for his “horrible so-far job” as President and his tweets, REALLY BE THANKFUL!

If you are breathing right now normally and woke up: be thankful.

If you were removed from a company that had you started in the game, then a rift in Management occurred, but went to another company that is good so far, BE THANKFUL!

If many in the black community have black pride PLUS Melanin Responsibility to uplift our black people without sarcasm and forced stuff, BE THANKFUL!

Now I have to say this: if many have given back to our Veterans or supported our military while on duty, be thankful!

If you are apart of the American Legion and have been celebrating 100 years of it’s existence, and still give back and inspiring those to join up in the Legion, Auxiliary (even now that Husbands can join) the Sons and Legion Riders, I want say yes, BE THANKFUL!

If you are walking tall real good, be thankful.

If you are expecting a really good breakthrough like this year or next month, BE THANKFUL!

If you still condemn any racist act on the internet, social media, at your job, or in the house, your church demoninaton, or in the neighborhood, or any act of disrespect, forced patriotism, and you had to write letters of complaints to a certain company, STILL be always thankful to get your voice heard! Put the pressure on them on not coming back!

If you are upgrading your house to be better, be thankful!

If you got a plan to take a vacation, be thankful.

If you still got your old game systems on a Throwback Thursday and if they still work, be thankful!

If you still listen to your old school joints on your radio, or maybe some new school material, be thankful.

NOTE: For my readers that had to go through hell with school shootings, and still feeling hopeless. I want you all to understand that it’s a hard Thanksgiving Day for you as we know. But in a sense, you should be thankful that you can rebuild. And BE EXTRA THANKFUL that yet, you are still living! And be EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA THANKFUL that a breakthrough is coming for the better!

If you are a conscious-minded person, a defensive-minded person that you know is best, for your own opinions and viewpoints without any harm or hurtful feelings towards humanity, be thankful!

For my Sagittarius readers: guess what? Our season is back! Are we thankful, now? (SAGS RULE!)

And finally: If I missed anything that many have thought about, and it’s good: we all should be and forever so thankful that we must march on. Like they say at the black funerals: It’s already been said. It’s already done.

Happy Thanksgiving!

#BeThankful

Oh, hold up. Wait a minute: Is it Independence Day? The day of the 1776 that many were “partying?” Oh yes, it’s July 4th. The 243rd of the Independence. And yes like before, we can celebrate in all. Plus I said last year and I dare say it again to comment this: The Struggle Continues!

Wake up, Americans! It’s our birthday/anniversary or just call it our day off from work and school. And of course it’s our day to have our say as citizens for another 4th of July Birthday. Let me also say that if we partied or conversated last year with folks whom are not around this year then maybe that was the last conversation. And just to think that this 4th of July is the last 4th under the 2010’s decade. And it’s the first 4th of July that many have to recognize the 400th Anniversary of the last Trans Atlantic Slave Trade of the year 1619. For us Wisconsin folks: our Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes is celebrating his first 4th of July as the first African-American Lt. Governor of the Badger State. That’s indeed a FIRST! Similar to the pivotal aspect of Juneteenth Day of last month.

However like last year we still deal the same issues of black lives being targeted harshly. We still deal with the factors of our LGBTQIA brothers and sisters being judged harshly when it comes to the same sex practices and marriages in the United Methodist Church after the “decision” was made in St. Louis dealing with the General Conference. We also still deal with the twisted laws of misinformation, harassment, bullying after someone tries to give someone a drink, and many other factors America harbors. And yes black folks: many of us still fight among each other in determining our so-called blackness in a harsh manner to the likes of Sen. Kamala Harris.

Let’s be honest here, when “you know who” got elected of course many of us got real stupid. Admit it. As a matter of fact when I referenced the factors of us black folks fighting among each other we still are. We still have this inner hate that whenever we see one of us make it, in a sense of success we sometimes cringe and bear down with the hate of making sure that we tear down our folks in a hateful manner. And yet to quote our Muslim brothers like Malcolm X , this is a classic case of divide and conquer. Where have I heard those words before? Oh yeah, when the Ex-Governor Scott Walker utterly used them during his campaign. Admit the truth. Even though it happened in Wisconsin, but the message still was a look out in a sense of a warning shot.

Another shot of endearment, is with our LGBT Communities. This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in a sense that it resonates the rights of the Gay/Lesbian folks. And even 50 years later in 2019 many of us Americans are still dealing with the issues, lifestyles, choices that many of them go through each time. Oh we see it everyday. And yet this does infact deal with the church! Mainly my denomination of the United Methodist Church. You all know the story with that decision by the General Church in which many of the worldly conservatives kept the part of the LGBT stuff held at bay! And it still being held at bay. However many have to look and also realize that the decision is NOT STOPPING THEM to serve in the church! Already, LGBT Bishops and Ministers are actually coming though and having the chance to minister in the practice that they really wanted to do. In a church in Missouri that gained headlines, there was a confirmation class ceremony to welcome new members. But the youth of that church made a stand that they were not ready to be members based on the issues of their LGBT friends that encountered. They decided to leave the offer on the table until a fair change is acceptable. Keep in mind that this church is United Methodist. And is geared toward the LGBTQIA audience.

For many of us, our laws and confidence had been lacking. In a recent poll conducted on CNN via their New Day Reality Check Segment regarding Patriotism:

Patriotism dipping down?

Is there a thing called let down? Or melt down? Ever since 45 got into the office (thanks to many who didn’t VOTE UP in 2016) it seems that our sense of Patriotism has been hijacked and overtaken by those who actually feel a sense of anger towards a previous administration. Of course I’m talking about Obama. But also issues of previous years faults and failures that the country had endured in the modern 20th Century towards the baby version of the 21st Century era. And yes, even the communities that has been long forgotten, overlooked and never had a chance to compete with the popular big cities and folks to recognize. Of course, many felt that way for years before 45 and Obama was into the president’s chair. When many make a reference to move out of Milwaukee or any other northern city to go to Atlanta or Texas for example, and stated the reasons why they moved because of the weather, or in this case: racism, crime, and many other factors that played. Now the southern states as much as the rest of country must realize that racism and problems similar are EVERYWHERE!

Most recently, there was this Nike Shoe that came out this week with the old Betsy Ross Flag on the back. We all seen it right?

Let me say this: who wanted to buy some $140.00 Nikes?! And yet when the shoes dropped, many felt that the flags on the back were from a time when slavery was rampant. And word what that Betsy Ross didn’t actually make the flag in the first place! One of Betsy Ross’ slaves according to the recent stories was the original creator of the flag that had the circle stars and 13 stripes. But I had to fact check about America’s Seamstress that did the first flag. According to the real inside intel, Elizabeth Griscolm Ross (her real name) was born in the mid 1700’s and yet did not owned any slaves under her name. Betsy was from a family of Quakers that was against slavery. Uh-oh! Who didn’t know this? Raise your hands right now! For all those that said that she did that, you must get your facts straight right now! See this is what happens when misinformation gets twisted and not knowing the actual proof of this.

CALLOUT: It’s time to get back to those U.S. History Books! And actually get to the point of who the folks were when the country got started. Even if they were Slave-traders/Owners that raped and pillage. Start it up all over again!

We need to continue to know so for that the next generation of Americans don’t get caught up in the Okie-Doke like many of us gone through. Sure many of us had the beginning stages of our countries history that “scratched the surface” however as time goes on and as we continue to progress more into our history, then of course we’ll ask those hard questions like, why didn’t they taught me this in school? Maybe the folks who set up the curriculum way back when didn’t go hard enough! And yes, when Nike yanked the Betsy Ross kicks many had to question exactly what Colin Kaepernick was thinking. I know! Colin never dissed the flag in all, but was addressing the Betsy Ross Flag was used around an ugly time when America had harvested vile white supremacy like a bad habit. That is the truth!

But on this 243rd edition of America’s birth, we need to go even HARDER THAN HELL to get our sense back. It’s going to take not just education, but even HARDER THAN HELL of more educational historical facts to actually get to the point of this holiday and beyond. I’ll bet many of you right now are probably thinking about Juneteenth Day. Remembering how it was supposed to get the info and the truth out. And the joy of getting it right. Even folks who celebrated Juneteenth in the past have gone crazy with problems! Not with standing the thought of it. But understanding the gist to get to the moral compass of our nation. Yes, in 2016 the votes swayed to 45 and many of us are feeling this lack of patriotism. And not voting AT ALL! When was the last time that America had an urge of patriotism that really mattered? Don’t just say 9/11! And when was the last time that Black folks in THIS COUNTRY felt like being normal citizens that fit in with the colonial cause for the better all day everyday? We already know the answer. And basically this has been the talk of the town over and over again ever since the country got started. And I’m also sure that many have been looking for those answers ever since. And still looking.

Well, as they say: The Struggle Continues!

And also to quote the late great Nipsey Hussle: The Marathon Continues.

Well readers, the rules are back. My rules in which many must follow, or to simply just to give advice. For this it’s the new traditional Stephen’s Spot Rules of Summerfest. Reviewing again for 2019. By the way, we all know last year that the park celebrated 51 years. But it’s the 52nd year in it’s Golden Age, the fun is still the same. As always a reference: consult Summerfest’s rules of the park here. By the way, I am crediting the park with most of the information I know just to clarify.

First, let’s go over what I said last time in a long sentence mixed with something new. Many of you veterans of the park already know, yet again. Rookies, pay attention! And to those whom been away or seem to try to find your way back, consider this as a refresher course.

Since Summerfest is very well known in Milwaukee, I know about the place well. I first volunteered at the place at the then African World Festival in 1997, saw some shows, and worked in the late 90’s plus the year of 2000. Hard to believe that 20 years ago this summer, I was working there! I know the gates, security things, and the places to park near and far from the venue. So if you ready to party like crazy, start learning and reviewing. By the way, I don’t currently work for the company, BUT I KNOW the rules and regulations for my experience.

1) Summerfest as everyone knows is 11 days starting June 26th to July 7th. Except July 1st. And everyday there will days where you can get in free. Learn it! Especially the timeframes given. Like today, there was free way to get in for donations for the Hunger Task Force from Noon – 3:00pm . Please PAY ATTENTION TO THE TIMES! And pay attention (PLEASE PAY ATTENTION) to the news, internet, social media platforms and radio promos about Summerfest as well. Oh, Summerfest will be open on the 4th of July.

2) The park does have information booths. Need a program? They have them. Or for you mobile folks, you can download them via the net or straight to your smartphone. Your choice. Oh if you got the Sunday Milwaukee Journal Sentinel this past Sunday or the Shepherd Express, you might got a program with the paper.

3) CALLOUT WARNING: Listen Up! If you are an out of towner and have been stuck on the Wisconsin highway for about 2 and half hours getting to the park, that is your loss! The reason why I’m saying this, because when I was working for the company, I got hollered by a man (a white disgruntled man from Illinois mind you) about him being stuck on our highways for two hours. He verbally asked for the manager and the freaking former mayor John Norquist of all people. I am not making this up. This is a true story working at the main gate back in ’99. Keep in mind from my experience, Summerfest Security doesn’t control the freeways for the patrons to get to the park. My advice for you Wisconsin visitors (that yes the traffic will be hectic due to construction mostly, or the 1st shift folks going home, 2nd shift folks going to work), get there early!!!!! Like a day early. Or hours early when traffic is not huge!!! (Yes Illinois, I have NOT FORGOTTEN!)

4) If you ever think that you’ll be videotaping for your own personal use in or near the park (i.e. camcorders/video equipment), don’t record nothing! Knowing security they will take away the recording devices. They got rules for that. And the same goes for the Amp! Leave the camcorders at home. But there is one exception: If you have credentials from a performer or media organization like Fox 6, Channel 4, or the Milwaukee Courier Newspaper that might be fine.

5) If you’re about to pick up a ticket for a concert and if you run into a member of Security or Admissions personnel to pay them for the assistance to wait or ask questions to assist, don’t even try it! Buy the ticket and get an early pick up, or a mailing.

6) Cameras (mostly small cameras) are allowed on the grounds. It’s cool. But in the Amp, Nope. They won’t allow it. Don’t try it. BUT, like camcorders if you have credentials from a performer or media that might be fine. Also, and no selfie sticks. They won’t allow them. Sorry!

7) Like bathrooms, and merchandise areas, there are ATMs on the grounds. Be sure to spot them just in case you need that extra green.

8) Leave your weapons of Swiss army knives at home! The red shirts will take them, as well as any other suspicious item that is deemed dangerous. Just a word of warning.

9) Usually the workers in the colored shirts don’t reveal their names. Best advice, know their numbers! Like 563. Or in this case: Red 563. or Yellow 450.

10) CALLOUT: For the first time goers: Summerfest attracts big crowds. Just a word of warning. Again the park attracts crowds!

11) Best thing to ride at the grounds: Besides the arcades and the interactive stuff, the Skygliders. Take them. It’s legendary and use your cameras for sky pics!

12) Don’t be afraid to help those who don’t know much about the park. Give them some pointers! Now, if you can’t be at Summerfest, but know what the day schedule is, and if your bestie needs that social media assistance: Tweet it. Facebook it. Instagram it. Text it. Google it. #Hashtag it. You know the routine! Help them out. And if you use LinkedIn, use that too!

13) For the bus folks, as you know Summerfest got shuttles (MCTS, Restaurants, Bars, etc) . You know the deal. No need to tell you. And that goes for the Uber/Lyft folks.

14) They say that Summerfest has nothing for the kids. Um……..they do. Look at the children’s theater schedules, and they have a Children’s Fest day. Take them to that. Usually between Noon and 3pm on the day after Independence Day. Speaking of that, if your child gets lost and it happens often let the security folks know! Summerfest does in fact has an Lost Children’s Area for those who don’t know!

15) Yes, you can buy food and drinks at the park. BUT…………if you buy food on the outside as well as drinks trying to get in, can’t do it. Just like having cans and/or glass bottles. Nope can’t bring them in. Sorry! (Just a thought from my Security days) If you have an empty bottle, that is acceptable to bring in.

16) If it’s raining and if you have an Umbrella, yes you can bring it. BUT…….not in the Amp. If it’s hot, better take a towel just in case. If you get hurt, injured or get sick, Summerfest does have First Aid Stations and MFD will be on stat. Plus don’t be surprised if you see cool tents to take a break from the heat. For you with kids, the Elizabeth Bo Black splash pad will be in effect.

17) Like any other venue, there are areas that you can lock up your stuff. Ask the personnel in the info booths for that. Usually it’s for the special needs patrons, but feel free to ask questions.

18) Upon entry, you will be searched. Just a heads up. Bags, strollers, etc. Expect the pat downs and maybe the overhead security things. Summerfest will have metal detectors and wands. Just like in high school in the 90’s with the searches. BAG POLICY: Like the stadiums, other entertainment parks, Summerfest has a bag policy. Please pay attention to this very carefully!: 9″ x 10″ x 12″. When coming to the park, the carry ins of Tote Bags, Cinch Bags (or Drawstring Bags) and Small Purses/Clutches are allowed. If you have a Fanny Pack, that will be acceptable. BUT: If you have a Backpack, Camera Bag, Large Purse or a Cooler – THOSE ITEMS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE! They cannot be brought into the park. What might happen is either you take the bag back to your parking spot nearby or donate it. That’s what they said! And plus, Summerfest will give you a bag to empty the contents of your original to put in. And they have made this mandatory for everyone, even those who work at the park to follow the same examples as everyone else. If you take the Bus, Uber, Lyft or a buddy to drop off, make sure they pack small with the bags acceptable! If they get dropped off with the wrong bag in all, it’s a wrap. Also, there is an exception that if you have a bag that is for needs like medications, or baby diapers/wipes. And I know many will forget and get angry about a bag that they can’t bring in, and their car is parked in Greenfield or Chicago!
BOTTOM LINE: Just a word of advice, read the rules AHEAD OF TIME! All of this is part of updated security. Just to be safe.

19) Now check this, if you bought a concert ticket to see or any other headliner at the Amp, yes, you can get through the gates with that as well. Mostly the South Gate.

20) Keep in mind, Summerfest does have cameras all around the park. If you mess up, don’t expect to be spotted or thrown out! Warning for those who might be drunk in all. I’m just saying!

21) For the record: Pets are NOT allowed at the park. BUT……….service animals are acceptable as well as many other needs for the elderly and disabled.

22) And as far as parking: Many know well that parking can be a hassle for a good spot. My advice, look for the areas near the park, like parking lots near Michigan or Jefferson Streets. The U.S. Bank Building near Cass Street has festival parking available for those who want to use it. Yep, pay the required amount. Plus also if you have a concert ticket plus a parking validation with it, you are straight. Also if you’re lucky per say, there are parking spots close by the park near the South Gate that you could try. But, it’s a slim chance though.

23) For the record, Summerfest does have urban acts lined up for 2019: Bone Thugs – N-Harmony, Lizzo, T-Pain, Chaka Khan, The Roots, Lionel Richie, Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, Schoolboy-Q , Charles Walker Band, Just to name a few. PLEASE CHECK THEM OUT MILWAUKEE!!!!!!

24) Currently, construction right now as we know at times is a beast. Take real caution and be safe. Plus think ahead before planning to drive please!

25) As far as Fireworks: No need explaining. You all should know that the first night of Summerfest and July 3rd. Pick a spot and view with the cameras and smartphones on stat.

26) Now I shouldn’t point this out, but I should. If there is an issue with a Summerfest employee, volunteer or a worker that you might disagree with, the staff does have supervisors on site. Talk with their managers!

Caught up yet? Good.

NEW STUFF THIS YEAR: or the extra reminders you already know.

The park now has Wristbands for re-entry. And are always plentiful. Between Noon and 6:30 that is. But will not be issued on the last day of the event.

Look for the Summerfest Street Team. They are always around. Matter of fact, they might be looking for you!

For all you UBER drivers or Lyft Drivers, I hope you got your plans set up for the extra green. No need to tell you. Or those Ubering a chance to earn money for the first time big gig rides. Feel free to sign up here.

Lyft Drivers, I’m assuming that many of you are probably making ideas for your drivers to set up the schedules. Get the Apps out! Make that money.

For the Power Pass Users, you’re lucky! Use that pass to get in for the days and shows of your choice.

Reminder: The Summerfest Store on the grounds has many merch for your spending. And many of the merch is homegrown. Support the local shops!

If going to the BMO Harris Pavilion Stage for a show, you might have a special pass for the headlining acts. Some of the passes might be sold out, but there are those you can get depending on the shows. For more information, click here.

The Miller Oasis Stage is once again back. And like last year, make a note of it. They have a sale going for some of the performers making that music. The stage still has the Level Up Viewing Deck for your viewing pleasure. Check it out.

The North Gate area is still new. All decked out.

The Amp is now under the banner of American Family Insurance. And still going through renovations. But you can still party though. And no scheduled acts are set for July 4th. (update)

On June 27th, between Noon and 6pm, get into Summerfest for $5.00! It’s a #TBT special with Pick N’ Save.

June 28th is Show Your College Pride Day. Wear your college shirt or hat to get in between Noon and 3pm. Oh, just for clarification: the colleges are comprised of these schools only: Alverno College, Bryant & Stratton College, Cardinal Stritch University, Carroll University, Carthridge College, Concordia University, Gateway Technical College, Herzing University, Marquette University, Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee Area Technical College, MSOE, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. And the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Other schools, sorry. That includes my UW-Stout.

Everyday at Summerfest, there will be an Emerging Artist Series shows that will take place. And word is you can vote for an artists that are coming up.

For the Milwaukee Streetcar folks: yes you can ride near to Summerfest for Free! And yes, the Hop is still free to take!

For the last day of Summerfest, as everyone knows between Noon – 3:00pm it’s free. But there is also a chance to win an admission for Summerfest 2020 next summer.

For other info that you need to ask, comment or question, either business or personal, consult the Summerfest Website for details.

Now, go party and be safe!

Before the annual tribute to father’s in all begins, this blog is for all the Fathers young and old. Happy Father’s Day to the men whom are Dads, Grandfathers, Uncles, Great Uncles, Great Grandfathers, God-Fathers and many other father on the planet that deals daily with being a FATHER ALL DAY EVERY DAY! Oh yes of course, this is the part where many go hard and stupid on the men who don’t step up and raise their kids as much as the women. Look here: there are real daddies out there that DO and I mean DO HANDLE THEIR BUSINESS! There is no question in that. Also for many like me, another father’s day will be hard because my father is deceased for two years. And yet the memories will never die in vain. So even though I’m new to this being without my Dad, the hard thought of him never dies out. And also for those who sympathize and your Dad is still living and you’re somewhat understand that, you really don’t know the feeling until YOU go through the experience.

And also for all the women who tell the single men without kids Happy Father’s Day, STOP. You know darn well not every man is a FATHER! If you say it, we’ll tell you: “I’m not a father.” Don’t tell us Happy Father’s Day because we don’t earn it until it becomes a hard job for us to try and accept. Of course you can wait until November 19th for International Men’s Day. Or some honorable thing of celebrating Men in the church or community that don’t have kids.

With all the hoopla of Men’s Health looming for June, Graduations, Black Music Month still being celebrated, Juneteenth Day that must be examined, 45 still acting a freaking fool, and the start of the Summer Season that will commence on the 21st. Oh yes, I’m scratching my head again. Time to get the questions flowing.

Well it seems were in the month of June, and yet Pride Month is in full effect. Take a look at this courtesy of OnMilwaukee.com via Instagram:

This scene is Downtown Milwaukee. And our Iconic buildings of the US Bank and Northwestern Mutual Tower are lit in the Rainbow Colors for Pride Month.

Hold on, wait a second. Check this out:

This picture is outside of the Chase Bank Plaza also Downtown Milwaukee with the Rainbow Flag waving.

Or wait just one more courtesy of Today’s TMJ Channel 4 (dang that rhymes):

At the state Capitol in Madison last week Friday, the Rainbow Flag Flies over. All of this really was expected and unexpected.

And here at the Milwaukee State Office Building in Downtown Milwaukee:

But…..many have asked since “when are they going to raise the RGB Flag? Or to symbolize the other ethnic festivals with celebrations of Black Arts Fest MKE? Now we should know how to write letters, Milwaukee. Do we? Better get the writing! Better also take it to the CEO’s and Organizers and ASK! State your reasons why this should be necessary as an idea why they should consider this thought for every Festival Season! Don’t talk among yourselves on Facebook to get a reaction! Get to the table and conversate the idea! Heck, point me to the table! And while we’re at it, write this same letter to the Wisconsin Governor and Lt. Governor. You know their names!

Another question: If you have graduated so far to enjoy the smelling of the roses of your achievement, congratulations. Now you realize that you have to give back to your Alma Mater, right? And if your Alma Mater screws up with Alumni events planned: HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE!

For us in Milwaukee: does it feel naked not having a NBA Finals here?

If those asking about Milwaukee again, (Toronto) when will you make that visit to see the city? Got plenty of time.

Just recently, we have commentated the 75th Anniversary of D-Day. In which we honored and appreciate the Men that fought along with the Allied Forces to take down Hitler’s Forces. And yet it was a positive thing. HOWEVER: Many missed the boat when African-Americans whom also served and/or died in the battle was not acknowledged! For those whom are in the dark, the African American soldiers had to fight on two fronts: Abroad and Home. And many of the African-American soldiers never had awarded the Medal of Honor due to discrimination and being racially target just because they were black. So who’s at fault? And who is still not listening?!

On CNN, W. Kamau Bell hosted United Shades of America in which the spot light was certain cities facing the struggles of racism and systematic segregation. This time, he chose to highlight the problems of a city that is not below the Mason-Dixon line: my hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. You all know that Milwaukee is hyper segregated, etc. A major concern that looms the dangers even today for employment, housing, economics and many other concerns. So after all of this, and yet many still ask about black folks in Wisconsin?

For us Milwaukeeans, Summerfest will start up the core genesis of the Summer Musical Season. Which acts that you know personally should be on your radar?

Dang Wisconsin GOP Republicans: that Rainbow Flag must got your goat, huh? We all know that when Scott Walker was in charge, he didn’t do it. So what?

Again: is Lil’ Nas X’s Old Town Road that disrespectful to country music?!

Speaking of Black Music (after all, June is Black Music Month) which Music in Black History that many know so well that it will not die through the depths of time?

Ok, this I need to know: Which artist is really looking forward to perform for the 2019 BET Awards?

As of June 25th this year, it will mark 10 years since Michael Jackson’s death. How would he feel after his legacy being interrupted again by those accusations of him and young boys, and on a lighter side: seeing his first born son graduating from college?

For baseball: there is an opening pitcher, and a closing pitcher. In regarding Juneteenth Day 2019, that is the closer. The 4th: opening pitch. Why you ask?

For all of my Pride Readers: that’s the LGBT folks. Is your Pride Month good this year so far?

Does the United Methodist Church really have to examine its own self before splitting off with the LGBT? As also with black folks?

Education! So AEW’S Double or Nothing PPV was a hit. I need to see more than just one show. So my question is what else is next?

Seriously, why is 45 is hooking up with Mexico after another hurdle with the trade agreements?

Word is that Sarah Huckabee might be gone from her White House Post. And how so we’ll know about this?!!

Which or many of us Men have on the Light Blue for Men’s Health Month?

You realize that the host city of Tampa is also WrestleMania?

And now: a moment for the Fathers.

For all the Dads that are just now coming out, what will be your reaction for your OFFICIAL first Father’s Day?

For all the Dads that are still around kicking knowledge, what is your best advice for the new Dads coming up?

For those of us who miss our Dads. This is hard as we know. How do we go through the storm yet again that our Dad’s memories will not die? No matter when and where? May all of our deceased fathers rest in power for eternity and in peace. Mine also.

What is up with this attitude that when Father’s Day comes around, females get an attitude? Oh especially around this time of year?

When church comes on Sunday, what will be the estimated percentage of Men coming for Father’s Day? It ain’t big for many!

How many Men have actually wore Light Blue for Men’s Health Month on Father’s Day like the MLB?

CALLOUT: What is up when females telling all Men “Happy Father’s Day”, BUT MAINLY MEN WHOM ARE NOT FATHERS?!  Especially those of us whom are single, unmarried, no kids of our own and just living the single life that many feel are bad and miserable.  Be careful, ladies. Don’t snag us like that.

After this Father’s Day is over, Men you do realize that International Men’s Day is about 5 Months away after June 19th? For those of us whom are not fathers with no kids, let’s celebrate that! No matter what we do or say.

Should all Churches and Community Groups have an All Men’s Day? At least for men whom are not fathers in all?  Unsung, perhaps?

Ok, this needs to be asked: what kind of a man is an “Unofficial” Father? You heard of Honorary Degrees that might be fake. Just saying.

Another need to be asked: no disrespect to Father’s Day or Mother’s Day, but why we have slept on Children’s Day? Which is every second sunday in June?!

And………the final question of Father’s Day 2019: what will the Father’s take from this year and the last Father’s Day 2010’s Decade, into the first Father’s Day Decade of the 2020’s? That’s is even worth celebrating for the next generation to ponder in all.

For all the Dads that read my blog, ENJOY YOUR Father’s Day. Be blessed at it. Don’t let none of the disruptive folks hate the thought you got this day. If your Dad is still around kicking knowledge, hold him close! You never know when the day or the hour when it might be his last.

So here we are once again. Mother’s Day 2019. For all the mother’s still alive and teaching, Happy Mother’s Day to all of you. I hope that many of you will enjoy your day that is specialized with customized opportunities to be with your families and friends. And to many of us also, from all the school shootings, the NBA Playoffs in full swing, and even the local, regional and national things abound of course: I’m scratching my head again.

So America: I need to ask, what about those Milwaukee BUCKS? In the playoffs and such? By now, they defeated Detroit and also just made the Boston Celtics look foolish after Paul Pierce’s “It’s over” comments after Game 1. Now he wants to ride the Deer to all the rest of the games leading up to the Finals. Seriously, dude?!

Dang Paul Pierce!

Confession: I have NOT seen not one episode of Game Of Thrones. Not one. And it’s their last season. Anyone else on this besides me?

You know that not all Churches operate the same, right?

All Wrestling Fans need to buy stock. Yeah I said it. Save that Belt money for stock money. Agree?

This needs to be asked: why there are those 35 years old and under that don’t want to volunteer?

After all the suspense, is Mortal Kombat 11 a hit game?

Will AEW Wrestling actually bring the pain to the WWE? Like seriously?

For all those asking and wondering, what is the value of being in the group that is Woke and Conscious?

If many of the crazed fans are getting away with murder of racism, why are they are just now getting caught? Explain!

This really needs to be asked and questioned: regarding the use of Facebook. It’s been stated by the company that Facebook has always been targeting the users or well known that have been used to “spread hate” on those that they don’t understand. And to top of all that, some of the names like Alex Jones and Milo Yiapolonous (who gave Leslie Jones a hard time over the Ghostbusters movie) and many others the Facebook Boot.

Hold up, this needs to be extra clarified: Why was Minister Louis Farrakhan of all folks BOOTED from Facebook?! And I question that on Facebook’s conscience of judgement. And yet while were on the subject and I want to say that booting Farrakhan was a grave mistake. And what? For telling the truth on subjects that many in the country or the world that shouldn’t be hearing? There are those in the world that wouldn’t hear the real truth on certain ideals or subjects and get mad at those that are spewing the fire. In regarding Minister Farrakhan, he already had his chance on other platforms and also been banned from some of the platforms on what many called him a racist. Is that so? And if’s the case, why is 45 still on social media spewing his hatred like a dumb idiot that many are calling him? Can you imagine what would the like if MLK or Malcolm X were on Facebook and ALIVE? Unfortunately, both of them were assassinated at 39 years old and they died by doing by telling the truth! So this is how many are treating the civil rights era related folks by after they told the truth, they get booted off the island? Facebook maybe good in all, but I think in this and no disrespect to Mark Zuckerberg, but the product is getting soft of going in after those who use the platform to speak the ills of OUR SOCIETY! And by the way, Minister Farrakhan is on Twitter, so along with Facebook, he’s also banned from Instagram.

Did Tiger Woods really deserved the Presidential Medal of Freedom after winning the Masters?

What was all this male attention stuff of Ayesha Curry got her butt hurt in all?

The month of May is two things: Military Appreciation Month and also, Mental Health Awareness Month. You know what it is. Why is it important to recognize them both you asked?

For all those whom are the age of this chick named Lizzo, you have no right to critique the music of John Williams being lazy. You ain’t old enough so you can begone now with your comments! By the way, who is this chick anyway? Like I give a you know what.

20 years ago this year marked the deadly anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting. And just to think that recently, there was third shooting this year in the month of May. But guess where you asked? Denver, Colorado.

CALLOUT: This is got to be the WTF moment of the second quarter so far: why are we are just now knowing that DJ Spinderella of Salt-N-Pepa (or excuse me, FORMALLY of SNP) was fired by Email from the group?! After 30 plus years in the rap game?! Shameful! And that show Ladies Night on BET is being shown now. Seriously?! Don’t worry: Spin has her own talent and will be doing her always.

20 Democrats will be on the fence in trying to represent for the 2020 election. But which one of them would be eligible to knock off 45 in 2020?

I need to ask though, if you are looking for a job in all in your hometown, then all of a sudden you get calls from out of state that the jobs are open in a temporary basis. My question is: why are the LOCAL COMPANIES not calling the folks about the jobs in the community?!

They say we had a wacky post Winter Snow in Wisconsin. Who’s ready for Spring to like, come now?

Can anyone explain the real reason why Ebony Magazine FOLDED?! After all the publication of black folks seeing themselves in positive stories in which many didn’t want, but were published anyway to give America that black folks were in the light of positive news that many need to know!

And may I add:

Oh yes, wrestling fans: we just saw Wrestlemania 35 this past Sunday. And if you didn’t get a chance to see the event, you may want to not look at this blog post. Spoiler Alert! It concerns the WWE Championship Match. And the Belt, and the fights and a expected win to happen that did happen.

Where was I? Oh yes. We’re talking about Wrestlemania. The same Wrestlemania that we saw yes, Becky Lynch winning not one but two belts, a returning Roman Reigns beating Drew McIntyre, Women’s Tag Team Belts defended, a Universal Champion Crowned of Seth Rollins, and several others.

But the main part of Mania, was indeed the WWE Championship Match between Kofi Kingston and Daniel Bryan. Oh yes there were some close encounters in the match that went back and forth. It was pretty close! But after that move of Kofi’s with the side kick of the “Trouble in Paradise” and after the 3 count pin: HISTORY WAS MADE!

You hear alot about history being made at Wrestlemania, but this history was made was even better because Kofi was the first Black Wrestler out of Ghana to win the company’s coveted prize that many had before him. Yes, Kofi Kingston may have been “crowned” out of Jamaica. But he’s really from Ghana. BLACK MAN! He’s the first Ghanaian African wrestler to win the title. When Kofi got the strap, I like everyone else was like: it’s about time that the WWE crowned the Black Man a WWE Championship! Folks have been asking for years: when is the WWE going to have a black champion to represent the company? Over the years we had from the Nature Boy Buddy Rodgers to Bruno Samartino, Andre The Giant, Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Ultimate Warrior, Undertaker, John Cena, Daniel Bryan, Jeff Hardy, Bret Hart, Sgt. Slaughter, Kane, just to name a few. Most of the men listen were multi time WWE Champions, but none of them were of African-decent. Oh, yes we talk about The Rock winning the belt, but he’s the first third generation to win the title as a biracial competitor. Half black/Half Samoan. Since the WWE acquired WCW in 2001, they had used the old World Heavyweight Championship in transition during the reigns of Booker T (or King Booker) and Mark Henry when they won the title. But keep in mind, this was the WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP. But not the WWE Championship.

Why does this matter? Why had the old commentators used the phrase “that the title is not about race?” Some say that race played a factor in this question, but I also say after all this time, it was about representation of how others see themselves. When Hulk Hogan and them were champions, yes many like them, but in the Black Community as we know now, Representation Matters. It clearly does matter in 2019 and yet the WWE had to respond to that change. This is the same company that year after year acknowledge about the life/work of Martin Luther King, Jr. every year on Monday Night Raw since it’s inception. And also every February, they acknowledge Black History Month, besides visiting the National Civil Rights Museum, they also acknowledge the likes of Ron Simmons, JYD, SD Jones, and many other notable black wrestlers that either won championships or were noted competitors.

Oh yes, Black Champions Matter. When WCW was still on the scene there was concerns about black wrestlers not getting noticed or being held back. We heard those stories out of “Hardwork” Bobby Walker and I believe Ice Train. Remember them? One of the shattered ceilings happened when Ron Simmons won the WCW Heavyweight Championship in 1992. That was the first time an African-American won the company’s top prize. Before the company folded in 2001, Booker T was crowned the World Heavyweight Championship in which was the second time a black man winning the strap. So even though that WCW had really well……SUCKED in dual times, but the company did something that the WWE did not done in their over 5 decades of existence. And even though it was brought up in the 1990’s toward the 2000’s, the story among the fans especially the Black Wrestling Fans still remained in tact. Yes over the years, the WWE has had Black Champions in other divisions: Intercontinental, Tag Team, European, US Championships (post WCW), Light Heavyweight, Cruiserweight, Men’s NXT, ECW, the previous Women’s Championship, Divas title, and yes the women’s belts of NXT, Raw and Smackdown. But in 2019 (also known as The Year of the Return) : this long story of Black Men winning the TOP Belt has been off the hook with Kofi’s win. And many state that this should have been crowned years ago. And yet, that Black NBA, NFL, MLB, Soccer, Rugby and other athletes can be marketable, the WWE must be marketable with it’s black grapplers to be. If LeBron James or Stephen Curry, or Laila Ali, Tiger Woods, Slone Stephens, Serena/Venus Williams, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali, and a cluster of Black Athletes can be so marketbale of all their likenesses, endorsements why not wrestlers like R-Truth or Kofi Kingston, Shelton Benjamin, Ricochet, Bianca BelAir, or Naomi? And they are black! Plus also, the WWE this past February along with NXT, had celebrated their photoshoots with the attire in the recognition of Black Excellence in this year’s Black History Month. Matter of fact, that started with Kofi Kingston when he and The New Day along with former Raw Women’s champ Sasha Banks, and former Crusierweight Champion Rich Swann were posed in a group shot on Instagram and many of the white fans were upset because it incited racism. Really?! It’s not racism folks, it’s representation! There might be young black boys and girls looking at them for inspiration that they one day can be champions or be something great as they get older in life.

NOW: Enter The New Day. When this group was started, it was designed to get the three wrestlers, Xavier Woods, Big E Langston, and Kofi Kingston all black wrestlers to form their own club in order to get noticed. Many folks thought that it was going to be another Nation of Domination group or it’s version 2. But when the promos were happening full of the all black women’s choir and each of the three wrestlers were shown in the promos for the group’s debut. After the debut and promos the group started to do zany and crude humor segments. Wait a minute, you might have saw DX, or Edge and Christian do crazy stuff in all, but The New Day?! Three Black Men doing crude humor of BOOTY, Twerking, wearing Unicorn Horns, Rap Battles with The Usos, Lyrical battles with SWV, Christmas outfits, Thanksgiving Pilgrims outfits with 6-1 on the front, their wrestling gear that was mixed with their personal statements, even with Kente designs for Black History Month, Fila Track Suits, wearing pink and light blue mixing with their attire, having the word “WHO?” (as in next competitors to challenge), Big E bellowing the intros of: “AWWWWWWWWW (insert your city here)! Don’t you dare be sour! Clap for your world famous (something something) Champs (or event) and FEEL THE POWER!” Like a minister in church preparing you for the worship service or revival. Many of the black fans were like: “they are some minstrel show ish”. Minstrel show for those whom are not black, it’s kind of like performing before an audience that really doesn’t like your skin color as much but you do it regarding your ancestory’s acknowledgements. But through it all, the group’s ideas of humor along with Xavier’s trombone, pancake throwing, Booty O’s Cereal was somewhat coming along. The New Day started out of no direction and getting direction of what they wanted to do. Yes, the New Day before the group were Intercontinental Champs, U.S. Champs, Tag Team Champs and yes thanks to Kofi – the WWE Champion. So yes, black representation and changing the direction does matter. Even if you’re black. Even if you’re in the Wrestling Game as it’s demonstrated many times before.

And besides that, one of the members Xavier has a YouTube Channel called Up Up Down Down, where he and his teammates along with other wrestlers of the company get together out of their time away from the ring and promos to play video games. I checked out the YouTube Channel and I’m looking at the wrestlers and like: man they are still friends! I guess the entertainment side of things are one thing, but this thing says another. Besides video games, they also do other competitive sports of Axe Throwing, Pool, Bowling, just to name a few. And yes, there is a UUDD Championship Belt. No kidding.

Kofi has his shoe promotions out with Fila in the ongoing success of the New Day Colors even with the new shirt designs. 5 years ago, this happened:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4DZUOmxYUg And even with his segments called I Just Love Kicks on the UUDD Youtube Channel. Plus he’s been on the airwaves in talks about his wrestling career and family.

And Big E, does his job with the videos and promos along with his New Day faithful and other wrestlers. Previously he had done segments and interviews as a singles competitor in the past. And word on the street, is a Double Dare Segment with him coming out? And as a matter of fact: I want to see Big E do his UUDD promos. Come on Big E! I see you, bruh! I know that he’s done some funny segments way back when, BUT……what about coming up? Fill us in!

What does all this mean here? I know this is about Kofi and getting the strap. It also goes by saying that never overlook Black Competitors that might be on the rise coming up. And this being 2019, as known as the Year of the Return: for those who don’t know what that is, this year of 2019 marks the 400th Anniversary of the last slaves arrived in America back in 1619. Even though that many of the Wrestling Universe may not care about 1619, but guess what; it’s not a celebration. It’s a painful reminder that black folks were sold into the slave trade against their will and other aspects. And even though we’ve been talking 400 years, I feel as a black man, we should not make the same concerns of the next 400 years. Now what does that have to do with Kofi Kingston? Yeah many rooted for Kofi to win, but let’s not lose short sighted that many had to endure harsh realities of racism and discrimination to get this far. Just to think 11 years ago, Barack Obama was elected the first black U.S. President. And just to think in 2008, Kofi was getting his big break in the WWE: the very same WWE we know now also was in recruitment of searching for African-American wrestlers! And yet Kofi was one of them. Now look at him! Being a former Tag Team Champ, Intercontinental Champ, U.S. Champ, and now WWE Champion.

Finally as I close this, the next topic will be short and has nothing to do with Kofi. So every wrestling fan like to buy the merch, huh? Well that’s fine. But for all you younger wrestling fans: INVEST and I repeat Invest in WWE STOCK. Buy a share of the stock! Not just to sell and trade, but also to BUY!!!! Put that into a safe deposit box, and just forget it about it. Be a stockholder. Invest in a portfolio and save up more collateral! And goes for the AEW fans, Impact Wrestling, ROH and dozens of promotions that you follow all the time. All wrestling fans need to buy some stock. Instead of buying that replica Championship Belt that cost over $400.00, why not use that pricetag for some stock? Im just saying. If the WWE can put on all these clinics, health awarenesses, and historical ethinc and gender achivements. And they do it so wellWhy not use that community sense for fans or anyone investing in stock? Come on, fans!

But yes, in regarding the WWE Ship, It’s Kofi’s time. ITS ABOUT TIME! And it’s a time that many should believe that a Black Man’s time is definitely here and must defend well! And that really is a New Day that rocks!

Well, it seems that Black History Month 2019 is about to be in the books. And apparently that this was one of the almost weird Black History Month Celebrations that has happened. Oh, yes it’s 93 years old. And it seems that many already forgotten that the occasion is not a racist celebration. And many had to be reminded that it does matter just like the various White stories we hear almost every day at work, school, or anywhere else. I said many times before that Black History is NOT American History. It may have some American elements in all, but it’s not only American. Black History is also celebrated in different world countries like Canada, the UK, France, Haiti, Jamaica, and others. It’s not just America alone!

So what were my moments that helped made Black History Month 2019 good?

Well, let’s start with the Oscars. No, I’m not going to go toe to toe and bash the Oscars in context. But I will say this: Regina King (aka Brenda Jenkins from 227) Black Panther walked with 3 Oscar W’s in the areas of Production Design won by Hannah Beachler who became the first African-American Female to win that category. Original Score of the movie won by
Ludwig Goransson (non-black), and also Best Costume Design by Ruth Carter. Oh, at long last after 30 years in the movie game: Spike Lee (YES THAT SPIKE LEE) after all this time, won an Oscar for directing as part of the win for the movie Black Klansman. This was Spike’s first Oscar Win and many thought that it was about time that he got one. Just to think, 30 years. Since the first movie that he directed: Do the Right Thing. And even though “Green Book” was highly undiscovered, the actor, however, Mahershala Ali became an Oscar Award Winner in getting the category’s Best Supporting Actor. Later on, Green Book won the best picture of the year and yes Octavia Spencer along with Mahershala were acknowledged.

For Music: I can name many: But Gary Clark, Jr won this one. If you have not picked up “This Land” at your Targets, Best Buys, Amazons, iTunes, or Google Play, your music collections in Black History Month was not saved! The album was supposed to be launched in March, but thankfully it was pushed back in February a week after his birthday on the 22nd. Yes, February 22nd was dubbed Washington’s Birthday, but I don’t think no one was thinking of that. Yes, this was the “This Land” album that had many folks buzzing since the video woke up all being shocked and surprised, with the black folks standing on the Confederate Flags. But it also dealt with the fact that racism is still an ugly feeling of hate on someone because of skin color. And many thought that Gary was separating the races in all. BULL CRAP! Many African-American Songwriters and musicians who were and mostly all Civil Rights Activists, Peace Activists and Social Justice Warriors all talked about how bad Racism/Discrimination is. So to those who were are want to be fans of Gary Clark, Jr. after he said the lyrics: “Run N***a Run, Run back where you come from”, you need to check yourself! He’s addressing the concern that many of you probably fear to talk about it at your group events full of black folks! And I’ll bet many of you, got Black Friends on speed dial! Don’t act surprised.

Here in Wisconsin: we had a debate about who should have been and chosen to be celebrated in the badger state’s Black History Highlights. The name Colin Kaepernick was on the minds of many. The Wisconsin GOP overwhelm didn’t add Colin Kaepernick’s name to the list of achievements due to his protesting of the NFL/National Anthem. Many called him being “too controversial.” And it gained national attention. However many in the Milwaukee area, where Colin was born decided to add his name to the City of Milwaukee’s Black History Month Segments in which many deemed well received as a good thing. Many also had agreed that other activists and civil rights leaders were deemed controversial, but many were praised for their work later on when they age or pass on. And yet, that was called out on being hypocritical. So yes, the City of Milwaukee accomplished a notion that the state’s GOP failed! And how DARE the Wisconsin GOP suggested to tell us whom to celebrate for our Month of Black History?! We don’t need NO ONE TELLING US whom to celebrate and highlight. No one! Also our new elected Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes was highlighted not only on the state level, but also in Milwaukee’s news outlets for Channel 6 and 12’s Black History Month’s Segments. Keep in mind, he’s the first African-American Lt. Governor in the state.

Another highlight of Black History Month in 2019 that I didn’t see coming: Solange Knowles, Beyoncé’s baby sister bought a social media website that many haven’t used in a while and also deleted years ago: BlackPlanet. You remember BlackPlanet where black folks and other folks logged in and getting all the info about who’s who? Way before Facebook and Instagram came in slightly after Myspace, and oh that’s where I met “Stacey Heskinson” and “Mary Lee” who were FAKES! Fake hookups! That is why I deleted my Black Planet Page is because of them and others like them who almost tricked me in giving money to them trying to get out of Nigeria. Yes, that’s the truth over 10 years ago. But since then, I stuck with those who know me and that lead me to Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Instagram, and others that are not tricky. And I’m sure many who used BlackPlanet then had been tricked. So I’m not really looking forward to the reunion of the BlackPlanet party, but I will say that yes if any black folks still want to go to Black Planet and revive the username and password, be my guest. But happy that Solange bought the company though.

Sidenote: even my denomination of the United Methodist Church had several Black History References from quizzes to Black Harry. Yes, black folks played a role in this and the tradition continues to this day as well as other denominations, non-denominational etc. Plus, several African-American Teachers decorated their classroom doors in honor of their Colleges, Fraternities, Sororities, famous figure in history, and many more! And the idea came from Facebook!

Back in Milwaukee, during the first week of Black History Month: MPS had a week of meetings, events, social plays and others in regarding “National Black Lives Matter Week”. And with the week in summary, also regarding the activities, that an idea to incorporate Black History in the school subjects everyday that many of the kids and teens can learn about other black leaders and legends other than Martin Luther King, Jr. other than Malcolm X, other than Rosa Parks, and etc. I don’t know about the other school districts, but WAKE UP! Black History is not just an “American Fad”. It’s for all to learn from. And on a side note, of course, we need to learn about our subject all the time every day like apps and tablets.  Also, one of our Milwaukee Municipal Judges Derek Mosley takes the time every February to summarize stories of Black History to social media. He’s been doing this for 10 years, and yet the summaries are still valuable for all to understand!  Follow him on Facebook!

However: I need to say something that I’ve been seeing a whole lot of #BlackHistory365 or #BlackHistoryEveryday or I’m black every month comments. I think we’re kind of missing the boat here. OF COURSE! We are supposed to summarize our culture everyday. But black folks, hear me out when I tell you at times, we DON’T hardly acknowledge our people EVERYDAY! We don’t do it like the other ethnics do all the time, everyday. The only time we acknowledge I think around celebrating our people is really around family reunions, weddings, anniversaries, the club, and yet also: funerals. But as far as more of everyday when many are not doing problems we skip over that for some reason. We go to work, school, or worrying about that thing in the Mall or stores! There was a comment asked about how can we celebrate our folks everyday and believe it or not, it was on the Stephen’s Spot Twitter Page. The answer was more like an opinionated thought of starting out basic and continue to build on the knowledge every time. Learn from those that have extended knowledge and to build your learning in summary. Of course, it’s hard to do, but ask this: If we can be so knowledgeable about Technology or the latest game, why can’t we be so knowledgeable about our history in the same context? Not just talking the talk, BUT ACTUALLY, WALK THE FREAKING WALK! Man, we can hashtag all we want, but that hashtagging better be in action! Which means also that you better not charge up your Black History in March or later months, but left it lying lifeless in February. That’s a foul ball.

And of course in Black History Month 2019, there were several problems of turmoil: Jussie Smollett of Empire was allegedly attacked in Chicago all to do with some thugs wearing MAGA attire, but apparently, it was beginning to be a rumored attack. And his character on the show is not going to happen in the last three episodes in this matter. And yes also: R. Kelly turned himself in after all this time being in the Hot Seat of this Child Molestation charges that many dodged for so long. And also recently during the Michael Cohen testimonies, the 45 administration brought in Lynne Patton whom she feels that 45 is not a racist. Well, welcome to tokenism! Have a seat next to Candace Owens about what she said about Hitler being a nice guy. STOP IT! Hitler was not a cool dude so let’s not be so petty or tap dance like a fool. And speaking of that in stupidity: the issue of Blackface reared its ugly head. Don’t get me started!

So how do we end Black History Month of 2019? We should end by stating that we always should acknowledge our ancestors that brought us knowledge and wisdom to carry forward. It’s been 2 years since my father’s passing, but I’m holding to the torch. It’s a hard job to grasp but I’m trying. Also, we need to be thankful that a month like this that started with Dr. Carter G. Woodson in 1926 that got us talking about us. Keep in mind, NO ONE was talking about us! Until Dr. Woodson heard the Black Civil War Veterans talking in the coal mines in the South. And we also end the #BHM2019 Celebrations by the ongoing efforts to give our black kids a voice. A black voice to tell them that many might not acknowledge them of their talents and being black, but still, prove them WRONG! I want to acknowledge our young black kings and queens that your time is coming. Be ready and willing.

CALLOUT: And a lesson to all of us that Black History Month SHOULD NOT BE underestimated by anyone! Even if you’re black yourself!

Our proud historical events and ideas are still out in interests. And yet many of us have to begin new chapters to extend the stories. Black History Month 2019 may be already in the archives, but yet the summaries and extended plays still go on all the time. Or if you’re like yours truly: you can do BOTH by celebrate Black History Month and summarize Black History every time. No, it’s not a mistake. Keep it in the middle!

And that alone needs no permission!

#BLACKHISTORYMONTH4LIFE!
And yet, the struggle continues.
