Last year, the Milwaukee Bucks has one of the worst seasons of their franchise history. And yet with at record of 15-67 was not a good sign for the team’s design of the future, it was not promising that the record would equate them to the next opportunity of the level as given.

But keep in mind, this was last year. After the season had past, the Bucks were given a new HC by the name of Mike Budenholzer who previously coached the Atlanta Hawks and also was on staff with Gregg Popovich and the San Antonio Spurs. And yet also, part of the Spurs’ Success was with Championship Experience. Coach Bud brought a new fresh of perspective to get the Bucks moving to a new direction of offense, and yes DEFENSE! I think who before the Bucks were given a chance to explore Coach Bud’s idea of gameplay, many were reminded of the Spurs’ days as ball handling and many others. Now he’s bringing it to the Deer in which so far this season, has been proven otherwise.

The new “Fear The Deer” moniker had caught on as part when the Brewers were championship bound. And yes, Milwaukee Sports (we know the Packers) but MILWAUKEE SPORTS in general is already rising up out of the ground to be able to compete as a medium market city. Never forget, Milwaukee is a Medium Market town with experience of Breweries, Industrial, City of Festivals Celebrations, and of course if you’re a snowflake: Socialist historical figures like Juneau, Kilbourn and Walker that owned their own portions of the city. Despite of those who think the city is still like 1975 in which I was born afterwards, Milwaukee is on rise to be known!

But getting back to the Bucks: The 2018-19 Deer Squad held down the record of 60-22 as in the first in the League. And in the inaguural season of the Fiserv Forum and conversely, the Deer District when it’s becoming a new mainstay of entertainment and sports. If many HAVE NOT seen or visited the Deer District while the old Bradley Center is almost gone with demolition, you are sleeping! No matter if its the Good City Brewing, or the Mecca Sports Grill, or the Punch Bowl Social, this district is coming up along along with the Milwaukee Streetcar like or not, and more attractions like the 2020 Democratic National Convention next summer in July.

But AGAIN: Back to the Bucks! The Bucks have everyone’s attetion. They got my attention back on my Birthday of December 5th when the team beaten the Detroit Pistons. Yes, I was at the game (a first for me on my birthday) when Giannis and company did the job. And yes, Giannis did his signature dunks to capture the excitement in the arena. Oh yes, later on there were a couple of trades getting Mirotic, Ersan, Pau Gasol, Brook Lopez and George Hill as an example to get the team more competitive. What’s even more shocking in this thing that the 7 footers are three point shooters! And they’re good! It’s been a turnaround in under a year that the Bucks did and here they are currently as of press time in the Eastern Conference Finals. Note: this is the first time in 18 years the team has reached this far. The last time the city was so Buck wild you ask? When the team had the Big Three of Glenn Robinson, Sam Cassell and Ray Allen. They were the pre-Fear The Deer before Fear The Deer. Wait a second: the first championship team from 1971 were FEAR THE DEER!

What’s more cool this year that several players and coaches from the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers came out to support the Bucks. Wisconsin Badgers Legend like Ron Dayne (whom was so good 20 years ago) came out to give the deer support. Kareem Abdul-Jabaar, Oscar Roberton and other NBA Legends all came out for the Bucks. Marquis Johnson became the latest NBA Legend to have his number 8 retired in the Fiserv Forum. And yet more and more folks are just now yet again getting a chance to get a glimpse of Bucks Fever 2019!

But of course: not many are all out for the Bucks. Of course many were all about their teams and yet they rooted for their squads in sorts. But I have to talk about the teams that the Bucks went against and it had a strange stop up north. First was a sweep on the Detroit Pistons, then it was 4-1 against the Boston Celtics and this was strange: The Toronto Raptors. Where the Bucks won 2 out of the six games against the team that routed them. Yes, we know Toronto. Kahwi Leonard and Danny Smith of the Raptors are no strangers to NBA Confrence finals and they have been there before. I think after the second game, there was no telling that the Bucks would have a tough edge in Jurassic Park/Scotiabank Arena in beating the Raptors. They had a tough edge alright. Dropping 3 games in T.O. and surprising stealing one in Milwaukee. Oh, let’s talk about this rapper named Aubrey. Or as many calls him; Drake. This whole thing with Drake is nothing more than a dude that is reaching. When the series began, there was this #BreakFromDrake in which one of the Milwaukee Radio stations took it to Facebook and stated that they were not to play any of Drake’s songs during the Milwaukee/Toronto Game Series. The station was Kiss-FM 103.7 They made it clear and stuck to their promise. Oh, and this so-called “Drake Curse” was a distraction. Obviously the series was just about Drake making a fool of Milwaukee and other teams that he wanted to lose. Oh, good job Aubrey! But I wouldn’t count his chicken before they hatch. Nope not one bit. According to the NBA, they already warned Drake not to get so, distractive during the NBA Playoffs. Last time this happened, Drake apparently had a run in with one of the Cleveland Cavaliers players and that ended almost in a fist fight. Talk about family values and role models. Really? And he’s from Canada.

Even this so-called distractive Drake Curse had reached the Wendy Williams Show. I read that summary on social media and apparently, Wendy doesn’t know shiznit from a wristwatch in regarding Milwaukee. She even got Aaron Rodgers mixed up in this. For the record to all the clueless Wendy gossipers and her personally: Aaron Rodgers PLAYS FOR THE GREEN BAY PACKERS! THAT IS IN GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN! Learn the game idiots! Especially those up north cross the border.

CALLOUT: Let me tell Toronto this: If you don’t know nothing about Milwaukee, (and this blog does go international) may I say as a lifelong resident of the city, pack your bags and take a visit! Get a passport and you either fly or drive to Milwaukee and again take a visit. Learn, engage and simply get out and explore the city that you know nothing about. It ain’t about sports. Oh, don’t feel bad about it because many have said the same thing, But they also VISITED the city. For you Americans that already know about Milwaukee and have not visited, you realized that the DNC is coming here in 2020? Oh, the location is the Fiserv Forum. I’m sure many know about it by now. I mean didn’t Houston and Miami were in the running? And this caught my eye that some of you Raptor folks respected the Bucks? Really!? After all the Drake Distraction crap?

But anyway back to the Bucks. With all the NBA Playoff fever here, it seemed that Milwaukee dollars were actually winning. And it had won. Plus it brought folks together in the new area of the Deer District that is now a new spot to hang out with Good City Brewing, The Mecca Sports Grill and the Punch Bowl Social. And yes we should include the NBA on TNT Crew with Wisconsin Born Ernie Johnson visiting his old neighborhood that grew up in this area by the way. Yeah, never forget where you started. Keep in mind also, this is the same mentality that the Brewers captured last year in the attempt for the World Series. So yes, overall the City of Milwaukee full of denial, marred with segregation issues and racism, plus lead water issues can seem to fall into place with a sports team or teams that can generate a buzz. And yet Milwaukee is stepping up with a 21st Century mentality that is has to learn to compete with other cities that had that same train of thought going forward.

As for the players, yes the team has to make decisions to either keep or let go some that has fought for the Deer. We know Giannis will be back and I expect some of the core players that started the generated fire that made the moniker “FEAR THE DEER” actually work to be a thing! So yes, I say this the Bucks at a time were a champion, a contender, a basement low record nobody cared always losing team that had some several times to get a championship, once in a blue moon moment to get a Central Division Championship noticed. But yes, don’t assume that the Bucks will get another run at a championship and also getting a shot at that brass ring and a ticket taped parade down Wisconsin Avenue they definitely deserve. It’s been 48 years since the Bucks won a NBA Title. But that drought will not last very long for another shot of the gold. And yes, Mike Budenholzer one year ago took this low record team and made into a contending powerhouse. And yes, he was again on Gregg Popovich’s staff with the San Antonio Spurs to get some of the Championships.

So yes, FEAR THE DEER!

And later on: RESPECT THE DEER!

It’s only the beginning. Again. This time, it’s a restart.

While many of us were taking the day off from work and school, the infamous Memorial Day Holiday returned as well as the “unofficial”start of the 2019 summer season. You know that is when many will start to travel alot? Yeah that one. This is also the same Memorial Day when many of us in the black community will remind the country that it was black folks that made the holiday. Long history of that missed! And also, it appears that the sacrilegious saying again of “Happy Memorial Day” is dumb as a you know what.

But however, I’m scratching my head again.

Stop Saying Happy Memorial Day!

Like last year and this year and the year before that AND THE YEAR BEFORE THAT: WHY THE HELL ARE WE SAYING HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY?!! It’s not for the living! Stop it, new generation folks!

I need to ask this: does the African-American Community receives an honor on Memorial Day when many of our black servicemen died or KIA in battle? Even while serving when the country didn’t give them love previously?

The month of May is Military Appreciation Month, right? So which military member of any branch should be given love each day that HASN’T been appreciated?

Who’s ready for Rambo? Coming in September!

As the field of candidates grows for 2020, which of them really has a shot of getting after 45?

Well they tried, the 2018-2019 Milwaukee Bucks season was ended by the Toronto Raptors in the Eastern Conference Finals. So overall, how did the Deer do with a Central Division Title Win and a budding future?

HOLD UP: Is AEW Wrestling “REALLY THAT SERIOUS” wanting to go after WWE? On the heels of the Double or Nothing Pay Per View? By the way if I’m AEW in all, don’t go greedy in all taking out Vince. Just saying! Be your own brand and your OWN stuff.

Stop the press: who did not know that Assassin’s Creed III was out on the Nintendo Switch?! Anyone surprised?

Question: Are the Milwaukee Black Panthers really serious about disrupting the summer festivals just to protest the concerns of the city? Come on now.

Last year, Wolfenstein II was that combat game for the Nintendo Switch. So….which war game is next for the console?

For the old school gaming crowd: who has the Blast! Controllers with the HDMI plug ins? Why I’m asking this? It’s for the Atari folks at heart.

For the next month of June: Black Music Month, Pride Month, a Month set aside for Fathers, Juneteenth Day, Flag Day, The First Day of Summer………and oh, you know us men have to realize that it’s also Men’s Health Month? Wear light blue, gents!

Why many STILL ask those whom are single and no kids: “what’s wrong?” The real question is, why does it matter to you? Here’s some advice: Get your life! Switch your lanes!

Why many ask those whom are introverted that are “anti-social?!” Knowing its not the people, it’s really the connection.

North American Challenge: How many residents of #Toronto, Canada do not know anything about #Milwaukee? I’m not talking about sports here. Place your bets. Either American dollars or Canadian Dollars.

Hold up: Noah’s Ark is turning 40 years old in the Wisconsin Dells. Who’s parting while riding Black Anaconda or Raja or whatever waterslide they have?

It’s all over: Who still hasn’t seen Game Of Thrones?

For its 100th year, can the American Legion go to the inner city schools/events to assist them about black history war figures? Along with the Auxiliary, Riders and Sons? This is a serious question here. Not knocking the suburbs. I really need to see the African-American Legion posts at work on this!

How do we like the Deer District, Milwaukee?

Is the new Chevy Blazer that serious to sell?

Wisconsin: we turned 171 years old this week. How is the montage connection of Governor Tony Evers is doing after a year not dealing with Scott Walker?

How will Juneteenth Day 2019 turn up? Even in the year of the return?

Black Men/Women: when we are stopped by the police or had been stopped by the police, do we feel a sense of concern like they are going to get us? And could this be one of the reasons why an interest in Police work is not out of the question?

Old Town Road

Seriously folks, is Lil Nas X’s song “Old Town Road” really that disrespectful to country music? Even though black folks made the genre in the first place? Happy early Black Music Month.

And the Final question: Has EVERY American understood this? Be honest. I know we love our troops and veterans in all, but keep it real!

In the past, I have written about the Green Bay Packers when they won the Superbowl. Plus the Milwaukee Brewers when they won the NCLS Central Championship but barely won the chance to represent the World Series.

But many thought have been in asking: Why not the Milwaukee Bucks? Just why?

Usually I don’t pay attention as much, but here it is. By now as everyone probably know the Bucks made the playoffs in the 8th slot of the Eastern Conference. And got swept by the Miami Heat. No question about it. We usually see the Milwaukee Bucks as one of those “basement teams”. You know what a “basement team” is? Usually if you know it’s one of those teams that stay buried in the basement of losing records and seasons for a while. For the Bucks, it’s been a long while. Back in the 80’s, and mostly the 90’s, the Bucks were a prime example of those basement teams that really nobody didn’t cared for. Remember these names like Glenn Robinson, Vin Baker, Jack Sikma, Terry Cummings, does those names ring a bell? They were in the era when the team didn’t have fire. I’m serious. Over the seasons, they have revamped their logos, but that revamping didn’t have a fire to get the team reinvented in sense of getting the folks to the seats at the Bradley Center for winning purposes. Plus also, this year the Bradley Center had a name change, now to the “BMO Harris” Bradley Center, and it’s 25 years old. Now also it’s been talked about the future of the Bucks in concerns of a new facility. Just one of those things to keep the team in the city. Remember the Brewers, when the “Build it now!” chants happened in 1996? It might be the same thing here. And where will the Bucks New Arena will be built? Near Miller Park? Just asking. I know about the Park East Area near Downtown. And in the 2000’s, the Bucks had the Big Three of Glenn Robinson, Sam Cassell and of all folks: Ray Allen, before he jumped ship to Seattle, Boston and currently Miami. And in the same year of 2001, they won the NBA Central Championship which was the last time they won something after all those previous losing seasons.

Also, I’ve read from black players or those closely related, that many don’t want to play in Milwaukee. Everything from it’s too cold, not enough fun, or many other things. And yes, Milwaukee has segregation issues as a Segregated City. You know what’s funny, I was looking at Kevin Garnett and his previous NBA Championship was with the Boston Celtics in which he won. Not hating. But many also realized also that Boston, like Milwaukee has a history of being a Segregated City. I’m just saying Boston! Also, Green Bay. There was time that Charles Woodson didn’t want to play for the Packers. Too many things he was hearing about. Partially with black players not being welcomed or many other thoughts. But he played for 7 years and won a Superbowl ring! Plus the team was well “dangerous” in route to Superbowl 45.  Previously Reggie White had the same talk before he played for the Packers coming from the Philadelphia Eagles. And like Charles Woodson, he won a SuperBowl in 1997 with Brett Favre. I stumbled on a OnMilwaukee.com page about a story in which having a thought about Kareem Abdul-Jabbar coaching the Bucks. HOWEVER several comments popped up, and one commentor that a person remembers when he read or overheard him saying his liberties about not liking, nor playing in Milwaukee. This was well after the Bucks won the NBA Championship. IN 1971! And Kareem was on that team, before playing for the LA Lakers and winning his share of more Championships.

What does the Milwaukee Bucks have to do become more dominant and more “out there” when it comes to filling the seats and having a “All-Star Cast” like Miami or any other NBA team that could be a potential “High Caliber Championship Team”?

Yes, Brandon Jennings can’t do it all. If I had to pick a player that would have potential for next season, it would be Larry Sanders. Yes, he’s a shot blocker. Many of the supporting cast probably have some skills, but NOT enough skills to get to that number 1 point for a title run, or a playoff run for improvement. Technically also, those who are African-American B-Ball players needs to snap out of the funk (if you will), and just play basketball no matter what city they are playing for. This includes Milwaukee. I dare to say! Josh Smith of the Atlanta Hawks had a quote about “Aint nothing to do in Milwaukee years back”. Well some had a thought in response of relation. And plus since Basketball players are good with the cash, why not open up a spot for folks who can hang out? If Aaron Rodgers and Ryan Braun can open up a restaurant in suburban Brookfield, Wisconsin. Why not Brandon Jennings or Larry Sanders or Monta Ellis open up a club restaurant in Downtown Milwaukee? Just saying.

As I watching the game, yes many were chanting Bucks, but also the “Miami Heat Fans” were rooting for their team. Or you might have folks you know in Milwaukee rooting for LeBron and hating the home Milwaukee teams. Except for the Green Bay Packers. – They have proved their power thus far. But between the Brewers and Bucks, it’s constant sometimes to root for opponents. Which is nothing new! There was a time I was rooting for Michael Jordan and his share of NBA Championships, while living in Milwaukee! Only if the Brewers and/or Bucks start winning and filling the seats. The more you win, the more you fill the seats in order to get a winning season. That’s what it is now. If LeBron James, Dwayne Wade or Chris Bosh played for the Bucks, per say and having the fire All-Star Power they currently have, the Bucks would have a dominant squad. Plus also they would be the Big 3 part 2 or something else. But that’s wishful thinking.

The Bucks to me are a misunderstood team that most know. Yeah, they had legendary players like Junior Bridgeman and Sidney Moncrief. Look at the banners next time you visit the BC. We know. But instead of the focus of viewpoints of the past, they need to progress the future. And this question has been on my mind: Why the local urban folks like the Milwaukee Rappers or Producers, or a well know young person of urban satire, invest in the Milwaukee Bucks? Like Jay-Z has a partial ownership in the Brooklyn Nets? I’m just asking. Knowing that former Senator Herb Kohl is the current Bucks President, but he also needs to start looking to future investors who would play poker or go Blackjack to get new deals. Sort of like the Packers. So far in the past couple of seasons, Between Brandon Jennings and Larry Sanders have been some star quality, but that does not equate the ability to get the butts in the BMO Harris Bradley Center. The management, plus the players MUST CHANGE THE CULTURE! Just the Packers and Badgers must do win their games. I mentioned that earlier this year. And I dare say, the Brewers need to change the culture of playing poker or getting blackjack to win! Again that’s how it is now. The current thing is not working. And there is nothing wrong going to the games and supporting.

So if the Bucks want to play “poker”, better start getting the cards out and practice. And change the culture of getting wins and having that All-Star Power to be a dominant team. Just like Green Bay. And unlike Brandon, no “preliminary predictions” of winning in 6 games in the NBA Playoffs. That was a cop out comment. Sorry.
