It’s time for me to blow up. Really. I like many African-Americans in this country have “had it up to here” with all this meaningless and pointless B.S. about the “cop calling Caucasians” and they know who they are telling them about certain black folks doing things like sitting down, waiting, sleeping in college areas, refusing to get up for white customers, and a bunch of lame excuses!

CALLOUT: For all those can I say this, and excuse my french: Shut your trap!

You heard me. We see you doing the same stuff almost and do we get on our phones calling the Po-Po? No!

For many weeks, and months, stop me if you read or heard these examples:

Sleeping while Black:

Or what about this concerning Cracker Barrel and it’s long history of discrimination against blacks?

https://thegrio.com/2018/04/25/cracker-barrel-black-veteran/

A 57 year old black Air Force Veteran was discriminated in restaurant all because of these things: One, the veteran Randy Freeman, 57 years old is a black male. That’s right. Black Male. And he is a business owner. Two, Cracker Barrel had a extended history of discriminating against black customers for years! That is not so shocking. Three: He was kicked out of the restaurant because the restaurant was accusing him of being rude to waitresses via the manager. In the ending result, he filed a federal lawsuit in the regarding the incident that occurred in April.

Let me switch gears on a “I’m calling you out on being quiet” story. I’m sure that many of you heard about the two Native American Teens were on a college campus and they were questioned by the College Police about who they were and what were they doing on campus looking suspicious?

First off, why were they being questioned because they didn’t talk on the tour?! That BS don’t fly right! It don’t. I’ll agree that even this example is nothing more than a reach for racism! Discrimination. Hating on. Get the message. Obviously they were let go and the University wanted them to come back for a shot at the campus. I wouldn’t take that offer because to me it’s a bribe. The college can beg all they want but if they don’t want to comeback, they shouldn’t. I wouldn’t set foot on that college ever again! They got exposed. My this is, go to a different school that you feel is best for you! Nothing else.

Now back to the black stories. This next one, I really don’t understand. This concerns the recent Community Service project of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.

Everyone knows that Sigma Gamma Rho is the youngest sorority of the Divine Nine and they wear the royal blue and gold and known for being founded in 1922. Plus the mascot is the Poodle. And yes the Sorority has members of well known names like, Vivica A. Fox, MC Lyte, Martha Reeves, Deshauna Barber (Miss USA), Marylin McCoo, just to name a few figures. And yes like many in the NPHC it’s about service work We know the parties and gatherings and strollings. But the keyword in this is SERVICEWORK!

In Pennslyvania: a group of the sorority were cleaning up a portion of a highway 83 when they were interupted by a State Trooper claiming that they were fighting. Then the State Trooper asked them to show their ID’s. Showing ID’s?! All because they were cleaning the interstate. Really?! Eventually in the end, the Sorority was later resumed doing their services and the State Trooper was dismissed from the area of the conversation.

Now I need to ask this on the real: Was that necessary!? I’ve seen community service projects on the Freeways before. Why is this a concern?! And why does this have to be called in through the authorities?! This is so stupid! It’s clearly stupid because it’s a case of an overreach. Yeah I’m going there that it’s a matter of assumption and suspicion that it’s a vendetta that the ongoing so-called being watchful on black folks is now escalated. We all thought that being watched in stores is one thing. But when we are out in the community doing service duties, or waiting on a friend for a business deal, or hearing a convo during a tour like the Native American Teens encountered, or sleeping in a college commons area, and if the majority of that is black, then there is an assumption of trouble that might spark. Oh, but guess what: there was NO CRIME! NOTHING!

It’s like as the major crime of the century just been unleashed. What was the crimes exactly? Folks, all of this is nothing but one thing: fear. It’s all about fear or the assumption of fear that “Oh, he looks suspicious because he’s not talking to me. He needs to be on watch.” Or like “oh we need to be watching those folks. They need look strange with that activity!” What would happen if church folks of any denomination is doing picture taking for a book and they get questioned by the Police? They are doing ministry! Something bigger than themselves! Where’s the crime in that? I often heard this from one of my former teachers whom were white always say, “do something constructive with yourselves!” Yes white folks I’m sampling that notion from you since 1994! Well……what about it?

All of this is junk. Trying to steer away the actual thought. And it’s completely stupid! There are real crimes that happen everyday. And it’s usually the major ones that get you caught on the evening news or the local paper. Why not go after the bad guys who don’t this?

Enough.

It’s been noted, that mother’s day is coming. Actually, it’s already here. So shout out to all the moms in the building, even if you have to play a mother to be a mother. But like many everyday values in stuff, dealing with politics and absent minded opinions meaning absolutely nothing, I’m scratching my head again.

On Facebook as we know, there will be those who will complain about not enough love for Dad’s in all. So will we be surprised after Mother’s Day 2018 is long gone?

Admit it America: has Childish Gambino told the truth in his video?

With Graduation Season College style is now in full swing, why are some black students getting “ushered” off the stage after a dance?

So I guess college students, excuse me Black College Students can’t sleep in college areas where folks can study? And get the treatment from the campus police?

Why there are white folks calling the police all because black folks barbecuing?!

It seems that Kanye West….oh what was that statement again? Nevermind.

How many liked Cobra Kai on Youtube Red? Admit it.

Which song is the best Mother’s Day song we know? Is it “Mama” By Boyz II Men, “Always on the Run” By Lenny Kravitz, “Dear Mama” By 2Pac. Or others?

How many of us who don’t have a mother to go to, became that mother to go to?

For all the mothers whom are no longer with us, how will we honor their memory everyday?

For you up and coming mothers, what is your path right now?

Big questions, many will critized fathers living foul, but what about the mothers living foul? Not saying all mother’s here!

Wisconsin NEEDS a Trikke Shop, a Trikke Store, a Trikke Specialist, and a Trikke Advisor. What I’m talking about is a Trikke, a three wheeled Carving Body Powered Vehicle. I currently own one since the early 2000’s and I’ve used it to turn heads. It’s a Trikke 8. The Original one. Can Wisconsin get on board with this like the Segways?

What about it, Wisconsin?

And the last thing on the menu: And this is for Milwaukee; Did you really enjoyed the 3rd Annual MPS Alumni Reunion?

Real side note: Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers!

Happy Mother’s Day to the mothers who aren’t always living foul.

To the non-Mothers that take care of folks on the fly, even though that this day is not really for you but you act upon on being a mother in general!

Lastly, even though it’s Mother’s Day, don’t single out the Fathers. Please don’t. Father’s Matter!  And I lost my father last year. He mattered. Wait for it in June for the Father’s Day Edition of Scratching my Head.

But today: Happy Mother’s Day!

Here’s a round 3 of the memes. I’m ready now.

Well you know it’s the truth, right? Not all Christians are evil.

And I assume this applies to everyday jobs and businesses we invest in, right?

Oh let go in on this, with all this going on with Starbucks, with black patrons, justice is coming. Am I right?

Wait a second, has it already started?

You realize that it wouldn’t work right?

Is our spelling really this worse? Don’t you dare blame the school system, blame the after thought!

Can many others actually say this? I’m just asking!

So we had the Easter meal, the Worship Service, April Fool’s Day, and still making the run to Pentecost Sunday wearing red. And yes like many others, I’m still scratching my head. Oh, yes it’s time to ask the questions that lingered the brain on my head like crazy.

So ALL of you church haters at it again with those memes, huh? If you hate Church so much with those trying to do good in all, why do you talk about it? And it shouldn’t pertain to you because you’re not there!

Today in America, we honored Dr King again. But for this, it’s the 50th Anniversary of his untimely death at age 39. King was tragically killed in Memphis, Tennessee at the former site of the Lorraine Motel, now the National Civil Rights Museum. The original setup of the hotel is still the same, but the museum enhanced the notion of what happened on that day of April 4th, 1968.

But for us who where born AFTER King’s Assassination, many of us don’t feel that we knew him, but yes he was part of us in his speeches, video and also now with the concerns of black men under King’s age are being gunnned down harshly! The Black Lives Matter units, Non-Violence Organizations, and many other revived civil rights related groups, it’s no wonder that the orater of the 20th Century still lingers. And of course, the closest we got to know MLK, was Coretta Scott King, and Yolanda Bernice King. We know Dexter King, but now it’s shifted to MLK III, and Elder Bernice King via Social Media. We know them!

So this blog letter is for us born AFTER April 4th 1968.

For those of us born after 1968, it’s me Stephen, you know the spot guy?

As usual, we have reached the 50th year of the one of the worst tragedies in our American history of the killing of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We know the date well in our view based on the history books and video sources. Plus also for those of us old enough to remember, we know that it took a while to create and promote the MLK Holiday, which was later officially to make it every third Monday annually in January. It was a long process but it was worth it.

We all know that there are those that we pluck about how Dr. King was this “peace loving” individual only. But however we overlook “the woke” Dr. King in terms of his ministry lessons being called to action. As a matter of fact, we all overlooked it!

In this 50th year of him being gone and many are still asking like, “what if King didn’t get assassinated, and lived to see the current status as of right now?” Or what if this and that? Let me tell you, Dr. King would be not pleased that the lessons he flowed didn’t flow enough for us to follow. We may have dropped the ball many times and flopped! The times we looked at the quotes and speeches of his, yes we were inspired by “I have a dream”. But many times I think we failed reading behind the words why “I have a dream” mattered. You can have all the peace events, and activities all you want, but what happens when we go home? What happens when we go back to our jobs and other activities that we engage in? What happens when we take those photos and post them on our social media stuff and we wait another year to comeback, what are we doing in between? Are we really doing the job? Are we really marching for a purpose? Look there is nothing wrong with marching at all. But what is really wrong with marching afterwards is the aftermath. When we look at this in the next 50 years, many our kids whom are young will be grown. Many of us will be around in a sense of being in nursing homes or I hate to say it, bound for heaven. Death. Pushing up dasies. And other factors leading to our final tributes. And there are those of us who might keep pushing the buttons in terms of staying in the struggle. This is not a quick fix. It takes a long haul! If you are just being woke and conscious putting out memes on Social Media, and act as an “keyboard gangster” then technically you are failing! That’s what many are doing in the 21st Century. You are not putting in the work. Saying one thing can be half the battle, but the other side of following through is another. Yes, that includes me. We all F-ed up. We got all caught up with the hooks and verses but not reading the whole song!

So yes, we know that if Dr. King lived currently, he would’ve been disappointed. And even though we made great strides in our realm, even he said that we still have a long way to go. Even he mentioned about Black folks were told to “pull up by your boot straps”. But Dr. King stated this in 1963: “It’s alright to tell a man to lift himself by his own bootstraps, but it is a cruel jest to say to a bootless man that he ought to lift himself by his own bootstraps.

Sounds like that we didn’t have the boots to pull them up! And I wonder why it is.

So yes, even though that Dr. King has been dead for 50 years, and Coretta has been gone too. And even though Yolanda Bernice King the first daughter is not here to see her siblings trying to keep up the King name in a positive way, it’s a long haul. But I see an idea: Yolanda Renee King, the granddaughter. I hope that she’s able to take on the family name in a new way. And I get she’s young. But I’ve heard her speak. And knowing that it’s a matter of time we all get to know her as much as the previous King family members. I want to get to know and willing to read about her of her path and ideas to keep moving.

So yes, Generation X, Millennials, and Generation Z, we have been living off the freebies, but it’s time for us to get to work! Enough of the crap. If we want this, we better go get it!

Sincerely,

Stephen

After today, the 92nd edition of Black History Month will be in the books. However, the ongoing lessons of black history will continue as it always has. Everyday learning. Of course many of us in the black community that lingers that notion the everyday values of our history, also however many of us will not. There will be times that we will simply forget, and keep on doing the same things every single time when this occasion of celebration is in the books.

However, let me review the highlights of Black History Month 2018 that I think stood out.

Black Superheroes: Black Panther was blowing up at the theaters and yes for good reason. This was in the works for over a year and it’s about time that this character has been given it’s due. I like the thought that when a predominantly black cast was able to pull this off and actually get positive reviews based on it’s platform! Already, Black Panther is smashing box office records like crazy. And the #BlackPantherChallenges were on point to take the kids especially black boys and girls to see the movie to look at it to support. Of course there are some haters who felt that the movie was all about nationalism, the Democrats, no Gays, or hatred. Stop it. It was a freaking movie! And to top it off, part of the movie was filmed at Tyler Perry Studios. Hate Tyler Perry all you want, especially with the Madea stuff. But when you had that movie being filmed in your studio, and its huge as is now, expect more folks to line up for jobs.

Also already, is Black Lightning blowing up Tuesday Nights. Like Black Panther, Black Lightning is making waves on the CW. It ties in with the comic book storylines and the real world concerns about crime, gangs, police harassment, education but most of all the issues that go deep that the black community knows very well! This Black Lightning show was like a surprise out of the box to have a black superhero that was needed to show. Now I need to say that, if you supported Black Panther, show that same support for Black Lightning.

Black Winter Olympians: The 2018 Winter Games have ended. But the names of John Crawford, Maame Hiney, Lauren Gibbs, Hakeem Abdul-Saboor, Shannon Ogbani Abeda, the Nigerian Bobsled Team, Chris Kinney, Aja Evans, Awkasi Frimpong, Erin Jackson, Kimani Griffin, Elana Meyers-Taylor, Shani Davis and Sabrina Wanjiku Simander will be remembered in making their debut as first timers and also those whom have been there and done it. John Crawford was the first African-American Male to compete for Team USA’s Hockey team (a MAJOR FIRST by the way). Plus also out of this group of Black Olympians, only two walked away with medals: Elana and Lauren won Silver for the Bobsled team. And also, even though she didn’t win, Jazmine Fenlator-Victorian of the Jamaica Bobsled Team commented that the Winter Sports needs more diversity especially when it comes in the response of black children to see a reflection of themselves!

Speaking of that: I want to see more black folks compete in sports that most don’t even touch: We know hockey. But what about Curling? Yes! CURLING. The same Curling team that won Gold and also it’s the same Curling that got The Simpsons talking when Homer and Marge beat Sweden. Oh, it actually happened in real life in South Korea. Also, Speedskating, besides Shani Davis, Maame Hiney and Erin Jackson, who else from the black community that can speedskate? And train here in Milwaukee at the Petitt Center? I know about #BlackGirlMagic and #BlackBoyJoy but let’s see that here also!

In Milwaukee: even though he went to school here, but John Ridley, our own local grown filmmaker that won big at the Oscars for 12 Years A Slave, established a new ground at the The Brewery Complex (formally the Pabst Brewery Area) along with Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele, has opened “No Studios”. What does that mean?

No Studios, will be a new hub for the community that will provide those in the arts. According to the website:

No Studios will include long-term and short-term office space for local individuals, organizations, and companies in creative fields, a screening room, food and beverage, gallery space, as well as a rooftop event space with expansive city views. The design of the space will be comfortable, open, modern, and inviting, encouraging collaboration among tenants and welcoming diverse communities across the city to celebrate art together.

In addition to serving as a physical space for the creative community and art lovers in Milwaukee, No Studios will present year-round programming that will both provide an opportunity for local artists to present their work and bring in renowned artisans working in a variety of creative fields from around the world to share their knowledge with Milwaukee audiences.

This is coming from our own! A chance for future artists to shine in a opportunity from the ground up and showcasing talent. Many folks thought that, Milwaukee: really? They don’t support their local talent. But with this might be a change. I don’t know about the mindset, but that has to change. Literally. No Studios had a short video promo, that some of the shows and movies like Redtails and American Crime had some Milwaukee related references. And that came from John Ridley. That is a nod from him to give his hometown some love. So I hope that this No Studios might the hub that can spur up new ideas to give future artists a gain to attract and showcase yet again, homegrown talent. And No Studios begins this fall.

More highlights that I think stood out in Black History Month 2018:

I would say the MAJOR highlight of Black History Month 2018, is where it started. Inside the office of Dr. Carter Woodson. His office, where the thoughts, ideas, creativity, purpose and goals of a occasion, started in his DC Office. And for the first time ever the office was open to the public for visitations. I believe like the National African American Museum and Culture, the office of Dr. Woodson should be able to attract visitors alike to learn in depth about the man that started to talk about US and our history in the relation to Black History Month. No it’s not just about being black, its also what we can do and had done despite of us being black.

The office (according to the summaries) have articles, books, letters, documents and other material of value that is predominately sampled or summarized even today. Even the office has some of the letters going back to Frederick Douglass’ days years before the start of Negro History Week, also a book is published in the same year that the occasion got started. Even with book articles, a coloring section for kids. Yes! Dr. Woodson wanted to engage that with young folks in the summary of the occasion to learn about the culture and also a sense of history.

In conclusion: here it is that yes we are again to supposed to learn about Black History everyday. HOWEVER: I have said this before and I’ll say it again, many of us in the black community I hate to say this, but we don’t acknowledge our history at times because we tend to FORGET! We keep saying, “we need to teach our children more” but adults we need to remember that “iron sharpens iron.” What that means in this is, in order for our children to learn about black history, and summarize it to the fullest, we need to do our job! Let me remind us so-called grown folks that we’re getting old. Period. Nothing we can do about it. And yes we complain about the teachings in schools, but many of us forget that we have to continue that teaching AT HOME! In the community centers, and yes whether you like it or not, the church! I was raised by a Milwaukee Public Schools teacher that taught in the classroom for over 3 decades and the thing is, my mother still educates me at 41 years old about Black History. And she’s 71 and retired. I had former and current church members whom were teachers and gone through the same thing. So I’m getting my balance on Black History. Then this hit me: I said this before and I’ll say it again: I do celebrate Black History Month. In February. And I also acknowledge the summaries and figures everyday. So I keep it in the middle. Not on the left or right. And for my “Black History is American History” commenters: It’s not just American History! Stop saying that. What about the Black Canadians, Black British, Black French, Black Irish, Black Australians, Black Indians, Black Italians, Haitians, Jamaicans, Black Hispanics, Black Mexicans and other African Decent of nations besides American? They have a black history story to tell also! We better get with the program. And yes, black kings and queens, that means us too! If we want to do better for our selves, we need to recognize our history as means to learn it and move forward. Many of us think we know it all. But like I always say, where there’s one thing, there’s something else. And that is everyday.  Also to those who think that studying Black History is racist and not American in a sense of Black Americans: think again!

In the words of Angela Rye, “We Built This Joint For Free!”

#BLACKHISTORYMONTH4LIFE!

What a time to be alive during Black History Month 2018. But for this year, the year of the comics, or should I say, Black Comics are having their say.

The hype of Black Panther goes all the way back to last year around this time as an early interest. And here we are a year later, the hype of the movie is coming true. Black Panther is legit. Period. And for my non black readers and non blacks in general, don’t come at me for the “it’s racist” crap. You will get called out!

But before that, I have three words to share:

“Welcome to Freeland!”

Let’s explore first of Black Lightning. Right now, the show on the CW is blowing up! It is the legit show that I think the CW needed and it’s here. What’s that slogan, “Dare to Defy?” Well it’s defying the thought of bringing in the New flavor. Previously, it was supposed to go to the Fox Network. But it was later switched to the CW and have a 13 show for the season.

When was Black Lightning created? It goes back to April of 1977 about 11 years after the debut of Black Panther, which debuted in the Marvel Comics in July of 1966. Four months earlier before the Original Black Panther Party was founded in October of the same year in the Fantastic Four #52 Comics. In the legend, Jefferson Pierce by day is a principal of a private school. The city of Freeland is facing corruption of crime, drugs, violence and etc. One of the main bosses, Tobias Whale is up for power and defiance along with the female bad girl named Lady Eve – which on the TV Show is played by Jill Scott.

We know that. That’s part of the story.

More of the story goes back when Black Lightning hung up his suit for good. But when the daughters were captured, that forced Jefferson to get his suit ready once again and go after the bad guys to get the city cleaned up once again. If you paid attention to the story (via the TV show) that is what part of the origin started. And week by week the storyline build on one after the other.

Another thought to realize that Black Lightning is the first African-American DC Comics Superhero to be featured. And it has some several appearances in The Outsiders Comics, and other guest features.

So far, Black Lightning is doing well. It’s a keeper. Knowingly its a factor that is in the hunt of being one of the best shows on TV. Should Black Lightning be in the Movies like Black Panther? That’s possibly. I expect the show Black Lightning to be up the top rank of shows on the network that defines it purpose. Now I know many probably looked at the first show and that’s it. NO! you have to look at all the shows and then make your decision on how it follows up. One show does not follow the whole season. Say it again over and over. The shows on the season does that. Plus the viewership and interests follows that. In the first show: Guests stars of former NewsOne Now Host, Roland Martin and Sen. Nina Turner of Ohio both appeared. Then in later shows besides Jill Scott, even T.C. Carson, (aka Kyle Barker From Living Single) also appeared as well. Yes there was a mini Living Single Reunion on Black Lightning. Just a side note, Cress Williams before Black Lightning played in other shows like Living Single and Nash Bridges. So Cress has a history of TV appearances, which is no exception.

For an extra thought, read about the creator of Black Lightning and read about why his idea of the creation of Black Lightning actually matters. Even at a time when the Black Panther Movie and the representation of it matters also. And you can still watch the first five shows online on the CW Website or App.

Speaking of that: “Wakunda Ready”!

If you have seen Black Panther already, you should be pleased. Proud and Stoked. Admit it, we are still in awe about Black Panther. And many of us had or will take the #BlackPantherChallenge in which groups of young people were given a chance to see the block buster movie. As of today, it reached over 200 million dollars over the Presidents Day Weekend. However, if you have not seen it, and still reading what your friends and family posted, you better get a move on and see it for yourself.

Black Panther came out as we pointed out, in July 1966 under the Marvel Brand. In the same era of the Civil Rights Movement and four months earlier of the debut of the Original Black Panther Party. Now everyone knows the origins of T’Challa becoming King way after his father was perished. The challenges. The fear factor. And also a twist of betrayal, battles of supremacy with Killmonger. Here is an extra, in the movie, there were scenes of STEM! Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Look at the character Shuri. I’ll bet many who saw the flick particularly young black girls are probably getting ideas to see what they could do in the future. Study up, young black queens and definitely young black kings!

Now I want to shift to something else about the movie. Particularly those of us black folks wearing the African Attire like Dashikis, Kente Materials and others. And many folks having this hate about it.

CALLOUT: For those whom have a problem with it, SIT DOWN and SHUT UP! Why is this a problem?

Matter of fact, why is still a problem wearing African Garb in general? You go to Star Wars Movies and folks wearing Luke Skywalker gear or Storm Trooper gear related to a movie and no one gets mad. Why this for African Gear to Black Panther? Makes no sense AT ALL! I wore my Kente Cloth that my mother gave me years ago, along with my African Medallion that I had back in the 1990’s when the millennials were just born. Wanted to represent! You know when a movie likes this gets viral, of course it’s expected to be great. And yes it will bring out folks talking about “Black Panther didn’t have any Gay Reps!” For my LGBT folks, look we like you. We do. Many of us don’t discriminate. But respectfully, it’s not all about you! If you wanted a Gay Rep for your movement for the movie, then you should have been on board with the selection of characters for the movie! We’re you? Say it loud. Just saying. Plus I know some black folks had negative things to comment about the movie. Like one Black Republican thought it was all about the Democrats. Really?! Stop. This has nothing to do with politics. NONE AT ALL! Why are we tripping?! Like for real black folks! This also is like, when something like this comes along some of us will get not satisfied. Not many of us were not on the studios and having our say working behind the scenes. STOP IT! If many of us were to get those jobs instead of being all high and conscious maybe we should be on the front-lines instead of the hate against of this flick! And you wonder why we don’t get along. Yo: this is a movie!

Oh yes, I did like the thought about #WakundaVoting or #BlackPantherVoting to get the voting drives in gear. BUT: if we turned out in droves for Black Panther, what happened in the 2016 Election? If we used that same mentality for a MOVIE, then that mentality should be for our times when we vote up!

CALLOUT: 2018 is a Midterm voting year. Um….Hello!

“ARE WE NOT ENTERTAINED?!” – Gladiator, 2000

Now when I was growing up the Mil, yes I heard that movies, or certain movies inspire you. Or move you. Make you want to go out and do right. Make you want to do get things done, represent you, your brand, your movement, and your ideas and your lessons. We know this. But for this movie, Black Panther many are calling it a “Movement.” Even in the times that black folks are this enemy and can’t shoot straight. Even when we were given the word “No you still can’t do this or that due to your Blackness.” Oh, to the white audience, this movie isn’t all racist. Stop it with the nationalism stuff. It’s just a movie, right?

I’m glad that the Marvel Brand and the DC Brand of both comic groups and other groups have Black Superheroes and Black Super heroines for the black folks to look at. Look, we still like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Professor X, Wolverine, Jean Grey, Cyclops, The Beast, and others. Even Spawn and The Incredible Hulk.

But the black comic book hero characters like Blade, Storm, Kid Flash, Vixen, Luke Cage, Nick Fury, War Machine, Isiah Bradley, Patriot, Misty Knight, Doctor Voodoo, Miles Morales, Cyborg, Steel, Static, Icon, Rocket, and yes even Black Panther and Black Lightning, they all should be not overlooked, and should matter of one reason: Representation!

And no: Meteor Man and Blankman DO NOT COUNT! Sorry folks.

So while the movie is rolling like crazy and smashing box office records, here’s something you need to know: an old school adage of player hating. Even ex Wrestler Booker T said the same thing – Don’t hate the player, hate the game!

Oh, you know I had to do it. Last year I did this and got rave reviews. But I kept it real. Last year for Black History Month, I scratched my head. Now this year, its a repeat. With new updated questions that kept my head scratching since. But for this, it’s for Black History Month 2018. Buckle up! I’m not pulling no punches!

Question: is this statement still relevant? With no substance? Let’s be real. Seriously!

BET has a new show for the black brothers called Mancave. Yes, a black man’s show featuring Tank, Jeff Johnson, Kosine and Slink. They talk about the current affairs of news that goes on. But I have a question: why are you females are watching it? Y’all got Sister Circle on TVONE! No females in the Mancave. I’m just saying!

Is black news really missing NewsOne Now since it got canceled?

Why are folks late reading stuff? Especially about black history? And what I have written?

If Black History is really supposed to be “American History”, why there are some school districts don’t want to hear our history?

Spoiler Alert: Not all Black History is American History! It’s not! Other countries have a Black History too. (Canada, England, France, Italy, Jamaica, Haiti, etc.) Any questions?

Attention Black Authors: we write about our history as well our stories. Past and Present. Does it really matter we do it more?

Again: if we are to supposed to acknowledge our black history everyday, why don’t we at times? Oh were at the lines waiting for the Air Jordans to drop or non big issues that we forget that is meaningless at times. Or were just not engaged!

Black Churches: we have a lot of black history to share up. From the founding of our churches to community involvement. Does it still matter today despite of those hating or assuming that we’re just about the money or praying in circles/tongues? Or going out to eat after the sermon?

Every February 7th, it’s National Black HIV Awareness Day. Want to know the reason?

This week was the start of the original Negro History Week that was the prelude to Black History Month currently. Some ask what was the reason? They should know by now.

Do Black Superheroes Matter? We know Black Panther is coming and Black Lightning is on TV. Either way, black superheroes are winning.

Does Black Archiving Matter? Ask yourself if you are a black historian of any kind.

Does Black Employment Matter? And I’m not talking about just owning your business!

10 years ago, am I the only one followed the momentum when Barack Obama was gaining to be the first black president?

For my Alumni Black Educators and Family! Does forming or being involved in a Black Alumni Chapter really matters to us? Especially at the PWI Schools that have or had minor population of black students with Black Student Unions? By the way: ALL COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES who don’t have an Black Alumni Chapter need to start one!

For my Military Black Families and Black Veterans, and Families of Black Veterans: Do we matter? After all, many of our Fathers, Grandfathers, Uncles, Aunts, Mothers, Cousins, Grandmothers, etc all have a history of serving in Uniform that is part of the tradition since the American Revolution. Even in times when America didn’t love us back! Keep up other folks.

I need to ask this: How many African-American Sons and Daughters right now are apart of the American Legion Family? I need to ask this for real! And how many actually don’t know what the American Legion Family is whom have or had Veterans in the family that lived or died?

For those saying Black Future Month, you know the things you doing now will be history, right? Not trying to spoil the parade here.

So folks want to make a joke about Black History Month as a punch line to pop off at the mouth for hate. Ummm…..so many don’t do it around Hispanic Heritage Month or Women’s History Month?

Recently in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, one my local journalist commented about former Interim Mayor Marvin Pratt about the city not having a full term mayor of African-American decent. If you know Milwaukee historically, majority of the Mayors are white and known to have popularity. Why does Milwaukee’s problem with black mayors of ideas have a concern? And the city is 172 years old with a segregated past and present.

When ABC’s Scandal is done, and it’s the last season, what ranking will the show be on the best list concerning black television?

There was a indication of Black Slave traders that sold their own into slavery and also managed the slaves. True or False?

Who’s looking forward watching Black Olympians in the Winter Games? You know they are in Korea. Oh, and by the way: Shani Davis is in competition.

Here in Wisconsin, one candidate of the democrats is African-American named Mahlon Mitchell. Could he be the man to take out Scott Walker? Better vote up, Wisconsin!

In Wisconsin: what is the Black Community’s real response to Foxconn? Mainly for those who don’t have their own transportation!

If you are woke and black, you need to see this clip over and over again. Why you ask?

It seems that every year that those who say “I’m black every month” is probably bored around Black History Month. What are the reasons? Are we not engaged enough? What is the problem? We still don’t know everything as we know some to say at least.

For my Black Motorcycle Riders: is the Iron Elite still on point for Harley-Davidson? And are you coming to Milwaukee for HD’s 115th Anniversary in the Summer?

You non-Black folks: as you explore Black History, you realize that not every black folk is considered a thug or a N*gger, right? Many of us were raised way better than that.

Which current African-Americans in the companies is the best OWNER and Supervisor right now that is making history? And got the inspiration from those that MADE HISTORY?

Who were and are the best UNSUNG Blacks Heroes that never got any recognition that deserved recognition right now?

Bonus question:  In honor of those whom are not here with us, which of our Black Ancestors were a beacon to have us move forward in life and career?

And the last question: yes we know this question, do we believe that Black Excellence is still available and hopeful?

Happy Black History Month!

Always.

It’s interesting to say that it’s now February. We know it’s the 92nd Anniversary of Black History Month. Now many are getting out the programs, books, events, and many other ideal information that we already have. But guess what, we still gotta learn.

I find really funny that when many of us in the black community have a day about us being black every month. Partially, that to me is a way to copy out the February tradition. Yes I’m saying this! Of course we’re black every day, month, year, second, hour, minute and others. We get it! Part of me wants to slap myself and wake up. What the hell do you mean?! Stop tripping. Is that all we have to say? That is not enough to say in the fight. Plus that is not enough for us period.

Black History Month for those whom have forgotten, is a everyday reminder (via 1926) about us black folks having our say. Our viewpoints. Our stories the way to be told. Obviously, many of us (also whom are Woke) seem to forgotten that. And I kept wondering, we have our young kids whom look up to us like LeBron James or Steph Curry don’t want to acknowledge the past but want to embrace the now. What I’m saying is, those of us who are grown, this is on us! I don’t care how conscious you are. Yes we pride ourselves being from Kings and Queens in which we are, but have a solid weakness in our commentary of voting, health, finance, communication, education and many factors and concerns. And if we are really upset about this, maybe Dr. Carter Woodson is the blame for the encouragement of this start. And part for the problem is this: we hear this quote that “Black History is American History.”

CALLOUT: If black history is part of American History, why there are schools in this COUNTRY REFUSING TO HAVE BLACK HISTORY IN THE CURRICULUM?! Explain that!

Every news report from the most school systems that have low percentages of black students get all cynical of the hate of Black History, even MLK Day. And the nerve to think that these are the same folks who say they have black friends, or they don’t see color. Well that’s a bold face lie.

In the era of 45, have we forgotten who we are? It’s a shame that we left that. Let me remind you, that 45 called out Africa and Haiti Sh*t-Hole Countries, and many of us had or have visited those countries, while many of us NEVER visited once! It’s also a shame many of us stand in line waiting for the new Air Jordans to drop, but couldn’t the most stand in line to vote! Until Alabama came in and showed us how it’s done!

And I know that we are anticipating the release of Black Panther, in which has been the hype of 2018’s breakthrough movies. Plus also while that is coming up, has anyone seen Black Lightning lately? If not, you are missing out! Black Lightning for those whom are unfamiliar, is not a marvel character. This is out of the DC Comics, and the character made it’s debut since 1977. About a decade plus later after Black Panther. The TV Show is creating a buzz on the CW Network being a hit so far and it’s the first Superhero Show that is centered around an African-American Family that tackles real issues. From Black Lives Matter to Gun Violence. The head character we know from Living Single, (aka Scooter) Cress Williams plays a principal – Jefferson Pierce by day, but when his daughters (played by Nafessa Williams and China Anne McClain) were captured by the gangs of the 100’s, Black Lightning returns to the streets to clean up the mess. Black Lightning is off to a strong debut, but if you like the show – SUPPORT IT! Just like many of you WILL SUPPORT Black Panther or are supporting the movie with a star black cast. Speaking of that, Nafessa Williams’ character Anissa has a hidden power coming up and has an angle of being a black lesbian in the mix. China’s character Jennifer is teen in high school, but expect her character to have Super Powers too. Lynn (played by Christine Adams) is Jefferson’s ex wife, the mother of Anissa and Jennifer had concerns earlier with Jefferson’s Powers and abilities, but still supports the comfort of the family in this new angle with the return of Black Lightning.

Expect my next blog to be more commented about the use and ideas of black superheroes! And the reasons why it matters like Superman or Spider-Man.

But for now, with all the mess of our history (and the lack of acknowledgements): BLACK FOLKS, stay in the fight for Black History Month! Not just for the future, but for our ancestors and the now.

We may unleash the centerpiece.

Before us Americans get the cooking stuff out, it’s time think. Get your thinking caps on. With all the media mess going on from the flag to racism, we know food is source of healing. So is the mind preparing the food. But as always, I’m scratching my head again.

You realize that “Movember” really started with voting right? Way before the health awareness male mustache thing. Research!

So the Facebook group, “The Whole Milwaukee #1” is now getting noticed. So my questions are, why are those using it for swapping drugs, beat downs and not enough for networking with our people?

Speaking of networking, does the Milwaukee MPS Alumni actually know about it’s networking events and actually go besides the Alumni Reunions?

Twitter: I like you. Why is your app causing problems of logging in?!

And the final question before you start cooking: has the Black Friday feeling sunk in yet, or are you staying put?

Now you may resume continue cooking your Thanksgiving Meal.
