Well here we are. For the 244th time, it’s America’s birthday. And still many of us have a pandemic on our minds to keep safe. And being aware of the on going struggle of rights and privileges that everyone American should be created equal. We know everytime we see those words should be a constant reminder of every person reading this blog and of course those that use everything else.

However between last year and this year, this Indepenence Day has been a drastic change: COVID-19. Usually I say this that the folks who were here last year celebrating or observing or protesting this holiday are not around this year because many of the thousands have died after suffering this symptom of the Coronavirus. Many of our traditional gatherings at parks, festivals, activities had been either reduced to the social distancing or cancelled for the rest of the year due to the virus. The many folks who previously protsted state capitals in the Don’t Tread On Me Flags, or the Rebel Battle Flags or with Rifles strapped with guns all had this distain that the state houses were promoting “Tyranny” in terms of those wanting to go back to work. That’s not tyranny, that’s being stupid and ignorant. And what’s funny that I mentioned this in the last blog about the words “Tyranny Response Team” on the backs of shirts. Really?

Those men and some women are not a Tyranny Response Team. They are frauds! I know I shouldn’t be saying this on the 4th, but I had to say that it’s apparent that they are misguided about the use of freedom. Oh yes, with out our military and all the guise of implications of our Indedpendcce, we wouldn’t have a 4th of July to celebrate. Nor I dare say a Juneteenth Day. And yes those are #facts!

Let me further say three words on this 244th occasion: Black Lives Matter! That’s right: BLACK LIVES MATTER.

The very same words that our so-called president labeled the organization as a symbol of hate. Other individuals that deflected those words to something like “All Lives Matter”. Let me dive in on this again. I know many had the chance to listen to activists in a response to the message that Frederick Douglass stated years ago called “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?” Oh yes, that is the speech that many are afraid to read and hear, but to us in the black community, Douglass revealed in his speech of the concerns that the black slaves never had to say but to feel what they were thinking. Even though they couldn’t stand up for themselves. But what Douglass really told was the hardcore truth that the celebration was fine for most folks, but to the black slave: Not as much. He stated at the time was “this is your celebration, not mine”. He also stated that while you celebrate your liberty in all, he must mourn. Keep in mind this was in 1852 on July 5th. Now 168 years later his Great-Great-Great-Great Grandchildren are reciting that same portion of the speech as he did. And it’s poetic because they need to know what their 4th Grandfather had to feel. BUT…….they also must read the WHOLE SPEECH! Not just that portion. My advice to them would be (and they’ll have to understand) read the whole speech before making a comment on Social Media in a weird way then you know. Of course, if Frederick Douglass were alive today saying that speech, either he would be attacked on Facebook, harassed, or shot dead. All because he was revealing a thought that many had been thinking for so long. But he also wanted the Country to improve in a sense of getting to that promised land of opportunity.

Henceforth: Black Lives Matter!

This is also the occasion that individuals like George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Rayshard Brooks, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless others in the country who are black had been killed by the hands of the police, and racism are not here. Which still lingers to this day. The activists of today who scream out Black Lives Matter are the new colonists. They are the new Paul Reveres that ring out warnings. They are the Elizabeth Cady Stantons, and many others of the yesteryear that are ringing out the concerns that many need to be aware of. Or in this case, STAYING WOKE! I know that many of us were on our live feeds today or leading up to the 4th, in regards to wearing black. In terms of Black Lives Matter and many others that wouldn’t wear the traditional colors of Red White and Blue.

So what.

Many know that the folks of Morticians or Goth wear black every day and nobody says nothing. How many folks wear black shoes EVERYDAY? I’m just saying! This is all coming from those who were logging into Facebook in Blackout groups that many tried to get others to join to participate. The whole idea was to be informed about the concerns dealing with black lives, and there is some advertising for black-owned businesses. Me personally, I support black businesses all the time. The ones I know very well from Black Barbershops, Black Daycares, Organizations here in Milwaukee like the Northcott Neighborhood House which was founded by the denomination that I was confirmed 30 years ago in 1990, the United Methodist Church, and my church is black supported! So I know this very well. My thing is like every July 7th, we know that Black Out Day is a time to support black businesses, but it is also a reminder that the support of the black dollar goes on all the time!

Also on the fourth, well there were some that have something to add in the concerns: There was an event and a protest held in Pewaukee and Milwaukee in regarding that Black Americans were excluded from celebrating the 4th of July Celebrations. The idea of the event and acts were to address the concerns of Police Brutality and Racism.

From the transcript via WISN Channel 12: AROUND CUTLER PARK AND THE WAUKESHA PUBLIC LIBRARY. NOT EVERYONE IS CELEBRATING THE FOURTH OF JULY THIS YEAR NATIONALLY, THERE’S BEEN A CALL TO BOYCOTT THE HOLIDAY. PROTESTERS SAY THAT BECAUSE THE BLACK COMMUNITY HAS BEEN EXCLUDED FROM THE FREEDOMS THE HOLIDAY STANDS FOR. NO AMERICANS SHOULD BE CELEBRATING. IN PEWAUKEE, PROTESTERS GATHERED TO CALL FOR AN END TO RACIAL INJUSTICE. THEY MARCHED FROM THE PUBLIC LIBRARY TO PEWAUKEE BEACH, A ALONG CHANTING THE MESSAGE, NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE. ORGANIZERS SAY THE GOAL WAS TO KEEP RACISM AND POLICE BRUTALITY ON THE TOP OF EVERYONE’S MIND. >> A LOT OF TIMES PEOPLE THINK AFRICAN-AMERICANS ARE ANGRY. THEY ARE NOT ANGRY. THERE HAS BEEN POLICE BRUTALITY, BUT LIVES TAKEN DUE TO VIOLENCE, SO WERE TAKING A MOMENT TO STOP AND BREATHE.

BEN: IN MILWAUKEE, ANOTHER GROUP OF PROTESTERS GATHERED FOR A MOMENT OF MOURNING. THE PROGRAM AT THE UNITY GOSPEL HOUSE OF PRAYER INCLUDED POETRY, LIVE MUSIC, AND DANCING. ATTENDEES WERE ENCOURAGED TO REMEMBER THE LIVES LOST RECENTLY DUE TO CORONAVIRUS, VIOLENCE, AND RACIAL INJUSTICE.

Also, over the weekend, former NFL Player Colin Kaepernick made his remarks over the holiday by stating “we reject your white supremacy.” He writes on Twitter:

“Black ppl have been dehumanized, brutalized, criminalized + terrorized by America for centuries, & are expected to join your commemoration of ‘independence’, while you enslaved our ancestors. We reject your celebration of white supremacy & look forward to liberation for all.”

No matter if it was on MSN or Yahoo the story was picked up. And just as I was logging off, here come those who are overly patriotic saying in the comments: “Get over it” or “Go back to a history class”, “quit whining”. Part of what he was saying was in fact true. There has been concerns that America terrorized nations without any consent, bombed innocent people, declared in the Declaration that Indians were savages, and oh, escalated the use of Slavery before, during and the after the founding of the nation. And yes, some of our Founding Fathers that signed the legendary document were slave owners. Even the father of this land by the name of George Washington was a SLAVE OWNER! Instead of hiding from this so-called Fake News, just admit the truth. Yes, of course we can celebrate the 4th, and yes there were black men that fought in the Revolution, but still some of them went back into Slavery! And some also maintained their freedom. Let be real about it.

Also: when many were talking about that had not been researching the story of a white supremacist. I’ll bet that many of those who helped shaped the country, no matter what roles have occurred before and after 1776 probably were connected to White Supremacy! You have the state of Mississippi for the first time in over in one century brought down their state flag with the rebel sign on it. I’ll bet many who were Mississippi born felt jubilant in a peaceful manner that the flag that gave them so many nightmares is finally done! Those monuments of those who were “Civil War Heroes” that lost the war, were taken down. Some were actually destroyed.

In speaking of that when NASCAR finally halted the thought of the Confederate Flags at the events and races that was a jubilant moment. Yes, you can thank Bubba Wallace for that in order to see change happen in the sport.

Now let me conclude this with this. The Fourth is a mixed bag for many folks. Let’s just call it what it is. However in the result of this mixed bag of controversy, yes it’s a day to acknowledge the turning point of the country’s Independence. The document proved to be a starting point to change, to inspire and to confront the issues, concerns and accomplishments that the country endured since it’s founding of 1776. Yes, over the course of human events in the last 244 years, America hasn’t “been that great”. And yet America hasn’t been perfect. But in the years preceded this one in a time frame of a pandemic that already silenced most of the Fireworks displays, parades, and other old-school related events the real Americans must stand up. It must stand up to get the ideas of being self-evident that yes all men are created equal. And should be created equal no matter who or what. Those are not just words, they should be a way of life. All day every day! If that’s the case however then explain why there is so much racism in regarding African-American citizens. From jobs to finance to housing. Even Healthcare! If many are saying “Oh Stephen, you should be lucky to be an American Citizen and have the freedoms to do so. Why are you complaining?” Look, I want THIS COUNTRY TO CONFESS the truth, the ideals founded and have that equality thing that many have been preaching about since Day One! And I also have been discriminated, disrespected, overlooked, unappreciated, devalued and nearly forgotten about. Yes, me! No I’m not going into “I Have A Dream” and recite the same sentences that Dr. King said in 1963. Many of us need to read the whole speech regardless! The same with Frederick Douglass’ speech about again, “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July.” The one portion of that speech many recited over and over again. BUT WHAT ABOUT THE BEGINNING? And black folks you should know better! I’m just saying.

And the part regarding the “Mericless Indian Savages” in the Declaration, and if those who were wearing those shirts on the 4th in regarding the three words, you may have missed out on the words regarding the complaint regarding KING GEORGE III! Beginning with the word “He!” Now many of you saw on Instagram of the picture of Cree Summer (whom had a acting career on A Different World and the voice of Penny from Inspector Gadget) that displayed the shirt just like this:

Merciless Indian Savages Declaration Of Independence T-shirts

You know what was missing? See below:

He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages, whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.

Question to those who wore this shirt, why wasn’t the whole quote mentioned? There was also a missing thought that it wasn’t addressed to ALL INDIANS! Look at the sentence again: What does it start with again? HE – as in the King of England at the time. The founders I think were describing the dilemmas that were problematic. So when folks said all the Indians, that is taking the quote way out bounds. Hear me out. That’s almost like saying all men are dogs. Or all black men are no good. See the angles here? Or in this case all BLM Members are racists and being funded by George Soros. Or when he was touring the country in the poorest neighborhoods, there were individuals or groups that commented that Bill Cosby had “Harsh words for African-Americans”. Get that mess out of here! And according to the stories, there were Indians that fought with the continental army and for the British crown. You know which folks did that also? Black folks! We got to be real! This is not to drown out the Native Americans here. In which I don’t do at all.

People: it’s time to review everyday of this Declaration. In terms of further understanding the thoughts of why the articles and listings were made and not only just to be one sided. You should be asking why they were one sided at first. I should start by saying #AtFirsttheFourthOfJuly wasn’t a holiday for black folks. That is a fact. And yes, you have many saying the same thing, probably on your timelines on Facebook of asking why. But at the same time, we must not forget that the longevity of the struggle still continues! And also there were black men that fought on the side of the continental during the revolution. If you think that Crispus Attucks was the only one that fought and died in that timeframe, guess what? He was not the only one! There were countless others that served like James Armistead, who was a spy on for the Continental Army under George Washington that helped the Americans. Another was Peter Salem, as well as Salem Poor at the Battle at Bunker Hill. Even the 1st Rhode Island Regiment also fought. Why aren’t these names being mentioned like Attucks? In addition to the struggle, that also is an everyday reminder that must hold dear to these three words: Our Sacred Honor.

So yes, as the nation turns the page, or levels up at 244, and it’s ok to celebrate for a moment. But when the next day happens, its back to work.

It’s back to fight White Supremacy.

It’s back to help Homeless Veterans

It’s back to educating our children.

It’s back to realize that Virtual Learning does count like the Traditional Classrooms.

It’s back to supporting Black Lives Matter, in a sense to find Breonna Taylor’s killers.

It’s back to fight unemployment, health issues of COVID-19.

It’s back to defuse the wickedness of Backing the Badge and Blue Lives Matter.

It’s back to stop the abuse of Police Brutality, stand against racism as well as discrimination based of age, religion, gender, education, and experience on the job.

It’s back to fight for the Church in a sense of fighting depression, hunger, finance problems racially, and it’s back fighting the same “Colonial Causes” that were and are in a long working progress. Which includes VOTING!

This year marks 150 years that African-American Men received the right to vote under Amendment 15. Also it’s been 155 years since the Amendment 15 which declared slaves free, hence brought Amendment 13 in April of 1864, thus making it plain in January of 1865 leading to June 19th.

And the beat, in fact goes on.

Before the annual tribute to fathers in all begins, this blog is for all the fathers young and old. Happy Father’s Day to the men who are Dads, Grandfathers, Uncles, Great Uncles, Great Grandfathers, StepFathers, God-Fathers, and many other fathers on the planet that deals daily with being a FATHER ALL DAY EVERY DAY! Oh yes, of course, this is the part where many go hard and stupid on the men who don’t step up and raise their kids as much as the women. Look here: there are real daddies out there that DO and I mean DO HANDLE THEIR BUSINESS! There is no question in that. Also for many like me, another father’s day will be hard because my father is deceased for three years. And yet the memories will never die in vain. So even though I’m new to this being without my Dad, the hard thought of him never dies out. And also for those who sympathize and your Dad is still living and you somewhat understand that you really don’t know the feeling until YOU go through the experience.

CALLOUT: And also for all the women who tell the single men without kids Happy Father’s Day, STOP!!! You know darn well not every man is a FATHER! If you say it, we’ll tell you: “I’m not a father.” Don’t tell us Happy Father’s Day because we don’t earn it until it becomes a hard job for us to try and accept. Especially those of us whom are single, unmarried, no kids of our own and just living the single life that many feel are bad and miserable.  Be careful, ladies. Don’t snag us like that. Of course, you can wait until November 19th for International Men’s Day. Or some honorable thing of celebrating Men in the church or community that don’t have kids.

For all the workers of the world, do you realize that it’s time to go back to the office?

Men, since this is a month for our health, you have been thanking the nurses and doctors during the pandemic, do you think it’s time to go back to one? Men’s Health Month is still an objective.

For all the haters that don’t like Virtual Graduations: the students did graduate. What are you hating on?

Hear me out when I say Distance Education rules! Now what?

Was it just me, or Summer 2020 just came in real quick?

If many are not willing to wait, do the questions of still be being “socially distant” mean anything to any?

June is also Pride Month. How you’re doing LGBT folks?

June is also Black Music Month. Be honest. Who still benefits from Black Music since forever? Even if you hate it!

Word is that the 2020 BET Awards might go simulcasting. Even to the non cable networks. And Viacom will do this, how?

For those whom are black and woke: this might be a hard question to ask but in regarding the 4th and many of us hate it because of it’s ties to slavery. Yes it’s true for those whom are so Red, White and Blue that the period whom

After all the protests and the demands of defunding the police so far, are the communities ready to listen to black Americans?

Aunt Jemima, Cream of Wheat, and maybe Mrs. Buttlesworth’s are on the verge of retirement due to the ongoing views of the products being tied to segregation or this case, White Supremacy. Any questions?

Dealing with coronavirus and all the folks don’t care about the corona, what did your doctor really say, again?

Oh, for all you NASCAR fans: why are you mad about the confederate flag? Oh wait a minute, that’s right it’s racist! Nevermind.

Another question: If you have graduated so far to enjoy the smelling of the roses of your achievement, congratulations. Now you realize that you have to give back to your Alma Mater, right? And if your Alma Mater screws up with Alumni events planned: HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE! #AlumniStatus

Speaking of Black Music (after all, June is Black Music Month again) which Music in Black History that many know so well that it will not die through the depths of time?

CALLOUT: How can Black Men and Black Women be woke and hate on each other for petty stuff? Yes, this does happen!

Ok, this I need to know: Which artist is really looking forward to performing for the 2020 BET Awards?

For baseball: there is an opening pitcher and a closing pitcher. Regarding Juneteenth Day 2020, closing pitch. The 4th: opening pitch. Why do you ask?

For all of my Pride Readers: that’s the LGBT folks. Is your Pride Month good this year so far?

This might be asked: will many or some of the areas of Milwaukee have Fireworks? For the 4th of July?

Oh yes, how will us Milwaukeeans will be getting around without Summerfest this year?

Which or many of us Men have on the Light Blue for Men’s Health Month?

The NBA and rumored that MLB might start up again. Will the outlook of competition be less or more? And a reminder: there is a pandemic going on.

The Last Ride was a hit. I’m glad that the Undertaker (aka Mark Calaway) told his story. I like many can understand that he wanted to protect the Deadman character over the years behind the curtain. And I had no idea that he had to go through those surgeries and refreshed wrestling skills to maintain the game. Of course, The Undertaker is already a household name for 30 years, but many a few remember him back as Mean Mark Callous in WCW. He was an original “Paul Heyman Guy”. And similar to many wrestlers that were good, not so marketable; it was a foul ball of bad business. However like many also, it wasn’t all the case against Undertaker. It was the promoters. Let’s be honest, the promoters were indeed wrong but had to appreciate. Overall, the Last Ride was lived up to the hype. Thoughts?

And now: A moment for the Fathers.

For all the Dads that are just now coming out, what will be your reaction for your OFFICIAL first Father’s Day?

For all the Dads that are still around kicking knowledge, what is your best advice for the new Dads coming up?

In Memoriam: For those of us who miss our Dads. This is hard as we know. How do we go through the storm yet again that our Dad’s memories will not die? No matter when and where? May all of our deceased fathers rest in power for eternity and in peace. Mine also.

What is up with this attitude that when Father’s Day comes around, females get an attitude? Oh especially around this time of year?

Has #GirlsDad been always a norm?

When church comes on Sunday, what will be the estimated percentage of Men coming for Father’s Day? It ain’t big for many!

How many Men have actually wore Light Blue for Men’s Health Month on Father’s Day like the MLB?

After this Father’s Day is over, Men you do realize that International Men’s Day is about 5 Months away after June 19th? For those of us whom are not fathers with no kids, let’s celebrate that! No matter what we do or say. I say as an idea, promote International Men’s Day ON Father’s Day too!

Should all Churches and Community Groups have an All Men’s Day? At least for men whom are not fathers in all?  Unsung, perhaps?

Ok, this needs to be asked: what kind of a man is an “Unofficial” Father? or an “Unofficial Dad?” You heard of Honorary Degrees that might be fake. Just saying.

Another need to be asked: no disrespect to Father’s Day or Mother’s Day, but why we have slept on Children’s Day? Which is every second Sunday in June?! Look it up. And don’t say everyday is a Children’s Day.

And………the final question of Father’s Day 2020: what will the Father’s take from this year into the first Decade of the 2020’s? That’s is even worth celebrating for the next generation to ponder in all.

For all the Dads that read my blog, ENJOY YOUR Father’s Day. Be blessed at it. Don’t let none of the disruptive folks hate the thought you got this day. If your Dad is still around kicking knowledge, hold him close! You never know when the day or the hour when it might be his last.

Juneteenth Day Matters!

Today is a legit day to celebrate an occasion that actually mattered. No, it’s not the 4th of July as we know very well. We’re talking about Juneteenth Day. A day that many don’t know about but to quote Kevin Hart: “You gon’ learn today!” For the 155th time, America is recognizing a forgotten Independence Day that almost had right previously in the late 1770’s. Yes we all know that originally, Independence Day was started in 1776 in which that yes and many will hear that black people were still slaves. They were in bondage. No rights. Yes, Master. No Master. We know. Frankly, there was a lot of that and a few black patriots at the time fought in the Revolution, attempted to seek their freedom and most went back into slavery. However, it seems that 4th of July was the mainstay of celebrating the Independence of America. Again, you will know this next month. But again, this day of the 19th is a CLOSER! Think of this: July 4th is the opening pitch to freedom. An opening pitch to eliminate tyranny, oppression, and persecution. Even though it should have been stopped in that particular year, many in the country who benefited and owned slaves actually didn’t want that to end. Yes, let’s call it what it was, slavery and commodity equals money. Even though the British rule was already divorced, but the inner struggle of slavery was a long shot to be eliminated. It took 89 years which in baseball is about 16,198 games. But on the first to last game, which was January 1st, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation to decide that black slaves would be declared free. 2 years later in 1865, after the assassination of Lincoln, the news to Galveston, Texas from General Grainger that the slaves would be now and forever free. This was known as “General Order Number 3.” This is why I say Juneteenth is the CLOSER, or the closing pitch that ended the dreaded streak. That ended the game that many fought for so long to eliminate. This is why I also say that “Juneteenth Day Matters Like The 4th!”

For many of you who are not black, and just wanting to know what this is, and we know many of you will be going all decked out Red, White, and Blue next month. Get this: if you know the 4th, get to know what Juneteenth Day is about. Get to know why this day matters. And many of you are in education, working for the curriculum. I challenge you to put Juneteenth Day further ON THE MAP! I challenge all of those who are black educators: put this day of June 19th ON THE MAP for the curriculum. It is necessary because this is part of the historical events that Americans need to know and summarize. After all, do many people still say that “Black history is American History?” Remember that quote that I hated since Black History Month? Yeah well, since Juneteenth Day is an American Occasion, why not add this to the American History that folks again, need to know! And Black History is STILL World History!

Unlike many Juneteenth Day Celebrations in the country, there were not many marches. And social distancing was in effect due to the coronavirus. In spite of that, Juneteenth Day went on regardless. There were marches, shutting the streets down, murals were and are still being painted on to streets that were declared “sacred ground.” Speeches were made to declare slavery was dead but the struggle goes on. Even after the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Aubrey, Breonna Taylor and countless others that died in the hands of the police. And yet, the Juneteenth Day flags were raised in cities that were used for the first time. EVER. Milwaukee, my homecity that has celebrated Juneteenth longer in the north, raised the new flag outside of the Zeidler Municipal Building. This is the same building named after one of Milwaukee’s Mayors, and a centralplex for the April Voting Drives. Not only that , but Madison also held its Juneteenth Day Flag raising on the State Capitol signifying the 155th occasion. And also, our Milwaukee County Courthouse also raised the new Juneteenth Banner for the special day. All areas of Milwaukee and Madison had the historical moments documented and summarized!

Now let me go left field on these non-black companies and advertisers that are now just discovering Juneteenth Day. Even the Networks like ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC are now just discovering this soon-to-be Independence Day. And our so-called president claimed to “made Juneteenth famous”. Let’s cut the Bull….right now:

First of all: Juneteenth Day was made famous by those who were set free from slavery.

Juneteenth Day was made famous who later marched and protested who were mostly black and fought for Civil Rights that we read about over and over again and making sure that the stories still remain in tact for another era of citizens.

Juneteenth Day was made famous by many who still recognize our concerns, our voices, and our black god-given rights to remain active and ALIVE to let those know that our black rights, and lives still matter! Even at a time when many black men are not as active as black women when it comes to concerns in the community. Even though the black men of TODAY are not as active as the forefathers, but they are out there. And they are active and educating the men of now. Of course, the men of now will do their own thing in the future but guidance must be placed on the table!

If many of the folks who are just now discovering Juneteenth, where have they been?! Black folks have been talking about this for YEARS! This is why the white folks and those who work in non-black establishments must listen to every single black citizen either at work or the house. Not just say, “here you go…………” NO! the key words are to “listen to the black folks!” Let us continue to have our turn to say what we want and need to say. Regardless of our stance on employment, health, finance, spiritual, mental, educational physical and countless others that we discuss that we may agree and disagree, but hear us out! If we don’t see a chair at your table, we have chairs at home to bring. Long ago, we didn’t have those rights as we do now. And that struggle has been going on since the start of loading the boats!

And to have our so-called president to have his “rally” on Juneteenth in a town like Tulsa, Oklahoma that had a history of Black Wall Street being destroyed by racist whites in 1921, was a slap in the face. 99 years this month. Although it was moved to June 20th, which is the first day of the summer solstice. Wow. However even though it’s a different time and a different era, but the struggle again still continues.

So yes, Juneteenth Day 2020 is in the books. However, in the recent “support” of Juneteenth must continue to go on. Like those sales of oil changes to get $17.76 off. Where are the $18.65 discounts? Where are those that need to surface? Yes, I know as a black man that Juneteenth Day MUST be carefully guarded not to be fumbled with a commercialized sense of being jaded. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, look at all those sales that are geared towards holidays: New Years, Valentines, Easter, St. Patrick’s Day, Memorial Day, the 4th, Labor Day, Halloween, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and yes Christmas. I’m not saying Juneteenth Day should be marketable. But being careful HOW Juneteenth Day should be marketed that it shouldn’t be sold in a negative sense. That is the main point of all of this. Same as Target marketing Black History Month. Which it has. But I hope that those that market Black History or Juneteenth Day should donate some of those sales to most needed black-owned businesses, and especially to the schools. I’ll give four letters: HBCU. That’s the Historical Black Colleges and Universities. Don’t just donate to the causes on these occasions, do them ALL YEAR LONG! And I hope that since the companies are “supporting black workers” and donating all the causes, for all of you big companies from Facebook to U.S. Bank, Harley-Davidson, John Deere, Tesla, Taco Bell (yeah I’m putting them on the list after firing the worker who had on a Black Lives Matter Mask) Best Buy, Walmart, news media, technological companies, health organizations, employment agencies, the federal government, state government, city government, county government and anywhere that they claim or stake their claim in the support of black workers: I got four words for you: step your game up! Prove to many that you back up your African-American employees. No matter what their positions are. Why you ask? simply put, their black lives DO matter. And they should matter just like everyone else.

So yes, we made it to another year of Juneteenth. And its very legit like the 4th. But after this day is over: The struggle continues!

Its been a long minute since that I written a double take on anything. But in the recent events of a triple homicide and also just today, 45 is up to some go back where you came from  remarks to OUR 4 US Congresswomen that are all minorities, was one of the disgusting and vile commentary out this man’s mouth! So yes, we are mad as hell! And as I speak on this date being hot, guess what? The heat is on.

First take: An innocent mother loses her life. Many of us in the community  had heard of the triple homicide that occurred in the city of Milwaukee in late June. The area was near 85th and Grantosa which is not far from my sister’s residence that this senseless murder happened. When word got out that the victims were dead by one shooters, one of the victims was a daughter of my Lay Minister from his first marriage. The victim was named Sonya Collins. And according to the reports, she was killed due to the fact that she was trying to protect her children. And the attacker, Oshonti Cannady at age 21 did the job not only on Sonya, but also on two other women at the scene. After that part of the week was dismal, many of us my church was just talking about the incident that was still fresh in our minds. But I kept thinking about the family and MANILY the father of the daughter that I know that had to be extremely hurt over the senseless loss of her daughter. Here’s the thing, Sonya was just 41 years old. She was a mother that once again was trying to protect her children. Her babies! As any mother (excuse me, REAL MOTHER) would do in any situation by standing and protecting her kids! And all that ended in a senseless manner. Oh yes, duirng the week at Church, yes we were talking about it. And yet many of us recalled how many on the congregation lost their loved ones in a senseless manner in the past. Me, I lost 2 cousins in 2002 and 2010. Both in the Summertime. In the months of July and August. We were rocked with grief and anguish. One of my cousins was just 21 years old that started his own business of a Ice Cream Parlor in the inner city of Milwaukee. And going to school to UW – Milwaukee. What lead to the killing at the time was his car. My cousin was driving a 1996 Chevy Lumina that he bought with his own money. And with that, a set of rims that was purchased. These were the rims that many were being targeted for killings and crimes. Unfortunately for my cousin, he was being chased at least 3 times for his car. In the early morning of late July in that year. Here it was a young black male, from a good family, educated, had a job of his own, and yes we do talk about the endangered species when it comes to our African-American Males! Weeks later in my church then, the attacker of my cousin was caught and was sentenced to more that 10 years in prison. And all of this was because of some car rims that many wanted in a criminal manner. In all GETTING CAR RIMS!

My other cousin was a mother, whom was stabbed to death by her alleged boyfriend in August of 2010. And was so shocking for my youngest cousin, she saw the stabbing in a closet with grief and shock. This is one of my father’s nieces. And usually when we get together for family outings or meetings, it usually involves a Funeral. Am I alone that goes through this? When family members most gather for funerals to say goodbye to a member that was known or not known well? But many of us in the family are trying to change the concept in which gathering at funerals are not the always norm everytime. But getting to my cousin that was stabbed in 2010, we also felt the concern that her children will have to live with their Aunt and Uncle without their mother being around everyday. Weeks later, my cousin’s attacker was found and caught in the state of Illinois and was sentenced for the murder. All of this was 9 years ago in the hot summer of Milwaukee.

Getting back of course: When I explained all this in church in early July, I told my Lay Member and as well as my UMM Men’s Church member (who also lost his nephew in the same day as Sonya Collins)  that the attackers are just “running and hiding.” But eventually will get caught. I made a prediction that they will get caught and will not get far. I made a prediction about this and held nothing back based on I know. Well guess what ladies and gentlemen, on July 13th, 2019 in the same day that Sonya Collins was laid to rest, her attacker was caught and captured. Sonya was murdered in late June. I said either a couple of weeks or a month that the capture would happen. I asked the family and the church this question: “What did I tell you?” I told them this would happen. Now since the capture that has happened let the true justice, and I mean “TRUE JUSTICE”  must commence and come into play. I got another say on this: I thinking that the sentencing part of this, Oshonti will probably get at 10 years to life in prison. Why I am saying all this on this blog full of nice things? Guess what, I’ve mentioned this before and yes this all comes to those like, we need to take back our neighborhoods, our cities, or Black Lives Matter. Oh of course that many will scream out the question of “What about black on black crime?” This example was and is still in the crawl of most white folks asking when a black male/female gets killed by white folks with badges and guns or by senseless attackers. And of course in our black community we always say that we need to do better for our people in all, but some of us get reality checked ourselves that incidents like this complex every single time. Sometimes we ask about “why blacks don’t celebrate the 4th of July” when we see or read about bodies in the street? And usually that about police brutality. But when one of our own do this, we kind of run and hide from the question. I’m speaking the truth to power. When this happens in all we need to hold ourselves very accountable in terms of US being killed by others. As for these murders, we can go to the government and continue to regulate and try to regulate NEW Laws, but many we need to do it ourselves! It starts with US!

Second Take: take a look of this mess from today. We’ve all seen it while working on the job.

Oh, and see this also:

Did anyone believe the B.S. and I mean the B.S. coming out of this so-called President’s mouth? This is supposed to be the leader of the free world that supposed to set an example of positive. But many should not be surprised that this fool of the leader had to call out 4 of our US Congresswomen of Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlab, Ayanna Pressley, and yes Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. All 4 of them had the message to “go back to where they came from”. And also this is sending shock-waves not just in the United States, but also the world. 3 of 4 Congresswomen are U.S. Citizens but Omar is an immigrant that became a citizen 19 years ago. So yes, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar is a U.S. Citizen!

“The newly assembled Squad” had a response in regarding 45 dumbfound remarks:

I need to ask, this why do we say to folks, “go back where you came from?” And second, why are we saying this in 2019?! This is all about the one thing that many are beginning to understand that #whitefear is in the minds of those who want to keep the United States of America all under the white rule. Under the White Supremacy that many of us non-whites are sick and tired of. What they are really saying that we should be running this country, not many of the minorities.

Let me be clear to the idiotic bigots that want this to happen. You are indeed playing yourselves!

Even the so-called president whom made the statement is playing himself with these remarks. And yet, you got many folks like him are nodding in agreement. “Go back where you came from” is nothing more than a racist code word by stating that “we don’t want you”. Or “You can’t be us because you aren’t one of us.” or “You’re not our type.” Or many other warning signs of fear that many of the 45 Supporters don’t even want to condemn the so-called president of the remarks he’s stated! Let’s be real: 45 or Trump doesn’t give a rat’s carcass about no minorities in the majority that doesn’t agree with him.

LOOK HERE! THESE ARE #FACTS! And many of us whom are born here in the United States aren’t going back to bow down to the conformity of others that doesn’t make sense! It didn’t make sense back then, or when it started and it sure is hell doesn’t make sense NOW! All this “Go back to where you came from” is dumb!

And oh, here is a flashback: Remember when Obama was in office? Remember when the right wing fans about telling him or commenting about him going back to Kenya? His father was Kenyan Born. Oh yes conservatives and Tea Party Baggers you should remember! And that includes this birther crap (take our country back) that wanted to see if he’s a Citizen, or a Christian (even though he went to Rev. Jerimiah Wright’s Church in Chicago) , or even all of this stuff that didn’t make sense that Obama should do during his 8 years in the chair. This “all going back” crap has been heard so many times from Black folks, Latino Folks, and many others that the so-called 45 President labeled the countries “Sh*tHole Countries”. Some of those so-called “Sh*thole Countries” are laughing the crap out of us. They are. And in fact, I don’t blame them! And when 2020 gets here and if this So-Called President gets reelected, you know that the joke will be on us United States Citizens. Matter of fact, the joke was on us since November of 2016 that many voted him over Hilary, who had EXPERIENCE! But no, the so-called “silent majority” in this country is dumb. The same silent majority that voted up for 45 and those whom are actively wearing those #MAGA hats has racial ties, believe it or not. THINK ABOUT IT!

I’ll bet many years ago used it as a weapon to make the minorities inferior because they didn’t fit the system. Oh really? There have been many times the American Flag was used as a weapon against those whom have been label inferior in this country as a symbol of oppression. That is true. Even though it looks good “on display” as I said in the past. But of course that the flag had oppression viewpoints on how it was presented to scare or to make those less than worthless. Yes I’m talking about black folks that were fighting to get a seat at the table. And were still fighting TODAY to get that chance.

CALLOUT! For all the folks whom assumed that black folks ran their course: NEWSFLASH! the folks have NOT ran their course. We’ve only just begun again.

This is why every 4th of July and every Juneteenth Day, as much as everyday I say these words: “THE STRUGGLE CONTINUES”. And this example is one of them!

Oh, hold up. Wait a minute: Is it Independence Day? The day of the 1776 that many were “partying?” Oh yes, it’s July 4th. The 243rd of the Independence. And yes like before, we can celebrate in all. Plus I said last year and I dare say it again to comment this: The Struggle Continues!

Wake up, Americans! It’s our birthday/anniversary or just call it our day off from work and school. And of course it’s our day to have our say as citizens for another 4th of July Birthday. Let me also say that if we partied or conversated last year with folks whom are not around this year then maybe that was the last conversation. And just to think that this 4th of July is the last 4th under the 2010’s decade. And it’s the first 4th of July that many have to recognize the 400th Anniversary of the last Trans Atlantic Slave Trade of the year 1619. For us Wisconsin folks: our Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes is celebrating his first 4th of July as the first African-American Lt. Governor of the Badger State. That’s indeed a FIRST! Similar to the pivotal aspect of Juneteenth Day of last month.

However like last year we still deal the same issues of black lives being targeted harshly. We still deal with the factors of our LGBTQIA brothers and sisters being judged harshly when it comes to the same sex practices and marriages in the United Methodist Church after the “decision” was made in St. Louis dealing with the General Conference. We also still deal with the twisted laws of misinformation, harassment, bullying after someone tries to give someone a drink, and many other factors America harbors. And yes black folks: many of us still fight among each other in determining our so-called blackness in a harsh manner to the likes of Sen. Kamala Harris.

Let’s be honest here, when “you know who” got elected of course many of us got real stupid. Admit it. As a matter of fact when I referenced the factors of us black folks fighting among each other we still are. We still have this inner hate that whenever we see one of us make it, in a sense of success we sometimes cringe and bear down with the hate of making sure that we tear down our folks in a hateful manner. And yet to quote our Muslim brothers like Malcolm X , this is a classic case of divide and conquer. Where have I heard those words before? Oh yeah, when the Ex-Governor Scott Walker utterly used them during his campaign. Admit the truth. Even though it happened in Wisconsin, but the message still was a look out in a sense of a warning shot.

Another shot of endearment, is with our LGBT Communities. This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in a sense that it resonates the rights of the Gay/Lesbian folks. And even 50 years later in 2019 many of us Americans are still dealing with the issues, lifestyles, choices that many of them go through each time. Oh we see it everyday. And yet this does infact deal with the church! Mainly my denomination of the United Methodist Church. You all know the story with that decision by the General Church in which many of the worldly conservatives kept the part of the LGBT stuff held at bay! And it still being held at bay. However many have to look and also realize that the decision is NOT STOPPING THEM to serve in the church! Already, LGBT Bishops and Ministers are actually coming though and having the chance to minister in the practice that they really wanted to do. In a church in Missouri that gained headlines, there was a confirmation class ceremony to welcome new members. But the youth of that church made a stand that they were not ready to be members based on the issues of their LGBT friends that encountered. They decided to leave the offer on the table until a fair change is acceptable. Keep in mind that this church is United Methodist. And is geared toward the LGBTQIA audience.

For many of us, our laws and confidence had been lacking. In a recent poll conducted on CNN via their New Day Reality Check Segment regarding Patriotism:

Patriotism dipping down?

Is there a thing called let down? Or melt down? Ever since 45 got into the office (thanks to many who didn’t VOTE UP in 2016) it seems that our sense of Patriotism has been hijacked and overtaken by those who actually feel a sense of anger towards a previous administration. Of course I’m talking about Obama. But also issues of previous years faults and failures that the country had endured in the modern 20th Century towards the baby version of the 21st Century era. And yes, even the communities that has been long forgotten, overlooked and never had a chance to compete with the popular big cities and folks to recognize. Of course, many felt that way for years before 45 and Obama was into the president’s chair. When many make a reference to move out of Milwaukee or any other northern city to go to Atlanta or Texas for example, and stated the reasons why they moved because of the weather, or in this case: racism, crime, and many other factors that played. Now the southern states as much as the rest of country must realize that racism and problems similar are EVERYWHERE!

Most recently, there was this Nike Shoe that came out this week with the old Betsy Ross Flag on the back. We all seen it right?

Let me say this: who wanted to buy some $140.00 Nikes?! And yet when the shoes dropped, many felt that the flags on the back were from a time when slavery was rampant. And word what that Betsy Ross didn’t actually make the flag in the first place! One of Betsy Ross’ slaves according to the recent stories was the original creator of the flag that had the circle stars and 13 stripes. But I had to fact check about America’s Seamstress that did the first flag. According to the real inside intel, Elizabeth Griscolm Ross (her real name) was born in the mid 1700’s and yet did not owned any slaves under her name. Betsy was from a family of Quakers that was against slavery. Uh-oh! Who didn’t know this? Raise your hands right now! For all those that said that she did that, you must get your facts straight right now! See this is what happens when misinformation gets twisted and not knowing the actual proof of this.

CALLOUT: It’s time to get back to those U.S. History Books! And actually get to the point of who the folks were when the country got started. Even if they were Slave-traders/Owners that raped and pillage. Start it up all over again!

We need to continue to know so for that the next generation of Americans don’t get caught up in the Okie-Doke like many of us gone through. Sure many of us had the beginning stages of our countries history that “scratched the surface” however as time goes on and as we continue to progress more into our history, then of course we’ll ask those hard questions like, why didn’t they taught me this in school? Maybe the folks who set up the curriculum way back when didn’t go hard enough! And yes, when Nike yanked the Betsy Ross kicks many had to question exactly what Colin Kaepernick was thinking. I know! Colin never dissed the flag in all, but was addressing the Betsy Ross Flag was used around an ugly time when America had harvested vile white supremacy like a bad habit. That is the truth!

But on this 243rd edition of America’s birth, we need to go even HARDER THAN HELL to get our sense back. It’s going to take not just education, but even HARDER THAN HELL of more educational historical facts to actually get to the point of this holiday and beyond. I’ll bet many of you right now are probably thinking about Juneteenth Day. Remembering how it was supposed to get the info and the truth out. And the joy of getting it right. Even folks who celebrated Juneteenth in the past have gone crazy with problems! Not with standing the thought of it. But understanding the gist to get to the moral compass of our nation. Yes, in 2016 the votes swayed to 45 and many of us are feeling this lack of patriotism. And not voting AT ALL! When was the last time that America had an urge of patriotism that really mattered? Don’t just say 9/11! And when was the last time that Black folks in THIS COUNTRY felt like being normal citizens that fit in with the colonial cause for the better all day everyday? We already know the answer. And basically this has been the talk of the town over and over again ever since the country got started. And I’m also sure that many have been looking for those answers ever since. And still looking.

Well, as they say: The Struggle Continues!

And also to quote the late great Nipsey Hussle: The Marathon Continues.

#Happy4th

#IndependenceDay

#243

Hope many of us had another chance of celebrating the 4th.

Happy 4th by the way.

As in the 4th of July, you know America’s Birthday in all? And I’m sorry to say that many aren’t feeling the goodness in all in which many have came so far in advance of getting that American Dream that many continue to thrive for all this time. And yet, it’s still out there. So for this 243rd edition of the Birthday, it’s time to go deep into the thoughts of asking and yes to come clean. Oh, who am I kidding: with all the meltdown of Patriotism, 45 has this so-called celebration in DC, more black folks denouncing the holiday again but overlooking the good, Nike goes crazy with the Air Max Shoes with the Betsy Ross Flag on it, and everyday shenanigans that makes us Yanks really worried. And yet: I’m scratching my head again.

There is a difference betweeen the “Pledge” and the “Declaration”. Who knows the truth?

For real though, had many really paid attention to 45’s 4th of July Parade with Tanks, and other related copy cat stuff like North Korea?

DYI: (did you know) that in the original draft of the Declaration of Independence, there was this item? (courtesy of the Library of Congress) “he has waged cruel war against human nature itself, violating it’s most sacred rights of life & liberty in the persons of a distant people who never offended him, captivating & carrying them into slavery in another hemisphere, or to incur miserable death in their transportation thither. this piratical warfare, the opprobrium of infidel powers, is the warfare of the CHRISTIAN king of Great Britain. determined to keep open a market where MEN should be bought & sold, he has prostituted his negative for suppressing every legislative attempt to prohibit or to restrain this execrable commerce: and that this assemblage of horrors might want no fact of distinguished die, he is now exciting those very people to rise in arms among us, and to purchase that liberty of which he has deprived them, & murdering the people upon whom he also obtruded them; thus paying off former crimes committed against the liberties of one people, with crimes which he urges them to commit against the lives of another. ”

*This was an idea to strike the issue of slavery out of America. Our founding fathers had this idea in mind (even though more of them were slaveowners) before the states of Georgia and South Carolina had to intervene. And you wonder why asking!

This needs to be asked. We all heard the rendition of Frederick Douglass’ “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?” Speech and yet no one read “The American Dream” by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr? Yes! he wrote that in a sermon in 1965 for Independence Day. Who did not read this? By the way Douglass’ speech is really titled: “The Meaning of Fourth of July for the Negro.”

Who still watches the last 4th of July footage of President Barack Obama from 2016? Where he mentioned about “imperfections in our union”?

It’s a fact: there was no parties for the black folks in 1776 when the country was declared. So many had to ask, why the constant stuff like: “This is not my holiday. My holiday was Juneteenth Day.” And also state like, I don’t vote. What kind of ISH is this? And for the record, there were African Americans like Peter Salem and James Armistead Lafayette that fought along the sides of the Continental Army in which…..to gain their freedom. Including John Chavis, Lambert Latham, Oliver Cromwell, Prince Estabrook, just to name few Black Patriots of the era.

The late great Coretta Scott King once said: “Struggle is a never ending process. Freedom is never really won, you earn it and win it in every generation”. Agree or Disagree?

Who bought the Betsy Ross Kicks from Nike? $140.00 dollars worth?

CALLOUT: Ok. I like Old Navy. And Old Navy is celebrating it’s 25th Anniversary. And yes around this time, the store had all the flag T-Shirts out for the holiday, which was selling during the Memorial Day Weekend. But on Facebook,it was noted that they were selling the shirts in a Purple theme design signifying the silver anniversary on 4th of July. But I need answers: Why did Old Navy had to sell 1,994 shirts online and then when word got out, they were gone?! Somebody really tell me something and yet that is a something worth scratching my head for!

And also, when Old Navy got the purple shirts out, there was a message on the back that transcribed almost with the original pledge of allegiance. Without the words “Under God” on it. And many of the folks on social media went nuts. Why, sway?

It seems that some black folks do celebrate the 4th. And guess what, you know Malia Obama’s birthday is on the holiday, right? And she’s just now 21.

Who’s rocking the Essence Festival this weekend in New Orleans? For the 25th time in a row!

Of all the patriots past and present: who were or are the patriotic introverts in American History that defied the odds? No matter what time-frame, era, gender, race, creed, class, preference, or next generation status?

OK, many folks had to ask: with all this stuff concerning the 4th with fireworks, why not of that for Juneteenth Day? Better start now! We need Black Pyrotechnic Workers!

Milwaukee: last night began a new era in our “July 3rd before the 4th traditional fireworks.” The Milwaukee Brewers, American Family Insurance and other private businesses forged together to bring the now “Lakefront Fireworks”. When the fog was getting to be worse, it kind of cleared. But we had our show. So, how did they do? And also they will be back in July 2020. Ahead of the DNC Convention in the city!

In the first half of Summerfest, Pop Artist Lizzo (you know the one that dissed John Williams’ song Jaws being lazy) had a difficult spot with a member of the security squad member that racially encountered Lizzo’s hair stylist and another stylist after her first Big Gig Performance. And yet, it was Lizzo’s first coming off the heels of the 2019 BET Awards. My question is, has that Summerfest Security Guard Member been fired yet?! And will anyone book Lizzo in the future in Milwaukee? You know already that the city is segregated.

Speaking of the DNC: How are the ideas coming along, Milwaukee? We are about ONE YEAR this month away from welcoming the Democrats to the Brew City!

Speaking of Dream Teams: Which team right now in 2019 is a team that nobody is taking seriously but noticing? Oh, it has to be a U.S. Team.

Speaking of Dream Teams: Which team comes to mind as being a Super team that started the super teams and actually won more than one game and undefeated? Again, it has to be a U.S. Team.

Will the Milwaukee Streetcar be able to “extend the play” in terms of fares and sponsorship between now and 2020? And its still free to ride so far.

How will all U.S. Cities celebrate the 4th of July next year in 2020?

How did many of you played Mortal Kombat 11, the tower version with Jax Briggs, Sonya Blade, etc? Just in time for the 4th.

What is the one place in America that many haven’t gone but need to go?

Seriously asking: is every way the American way?

Seriously asking: Who in the living heck is #ADOS?!! Also known as American Descendants of Slaves? Word is that they don’t know enough knowledge and self hate of being black. And also, what is ADOS’s real agendas regarding the support and assistance of the African-American Community or the Black Community at large that is not very snobbish!

ADOS: Who IS This?!!!

Seriously asking: is there a thing called opportunity to earn your keep? In an American way?

Check this: how will the 4th of July historians really align themselves with the discussions of the 400th anniversary of the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade? Which was in 1619?

Should all black historians really align with the 4th in a sense of expressing their own truths to be self-evident that all men SHOULD BE created equal?

The one thing still remains, how will the struggle continue for the better now since the 4th and Juneteenth are now in the rear view? This is an everyday question.

Oh hold up. What up with this? You young Americans and world wide folks take notes on this flow of Hip-Hop!

Second question: for all the triggered folks in America, one of members of Chloe and Hallie will be featured in The Little Mermaid and the triggered folks got mad and pissed all because a black woman is getting the part of Ariel. And they got mad on the Fourth. Really?!

Speaking of being Patriotic: which UNSUNG figures in current American History seemed to be the most patriotic in terms of speaking out against racism, police brutality, white supremacy, and many other shameful acts? Hint: We are talking someone or somebody that is all flag waving celebrating and being very VERY conscious about the issues of America’s problems at hand at the same time!

And…..another thing, anyone noticed that “A Capitol Fourth” was way better than 45’s Celebration in DC? Yeah I said it! And I hate to say it that in the 18th Century, there were no runways and airports. SPOILER ALERT!

Which National Anthem rendition was and is still the best: Whitney Houston, Jimi Hendrix, or Beyonce?

Which America the Beautiful rendition was and is still the best: John Legend, Aretha Franklin or Ray Charles?

This needs to be asked black folks: so the 4th of July “is not considered our holiday” in all, but which holiday is? Oh, if it’s Juneteenth, the word is that many in the Black Community don’t celebrate that either as much as Black History Month. Most of that are facts!

Black folks, when we see our own dress up in Red White and Blue, why do we get upset? Look, many can do Red White And Blue as much as Red, Black and Green and Rainbows. If we can do those without those looks without any disdain, is that considered independent? Or in this case being your own person? Not to offend, but JUST SAYING! As they say, do you!

Which of us in the black community doesn’t mind celebrating the 4th or being greeted “Happy 4th”, but also celebrate Juneteenth Day? Who does BOTH?! This is for those whom are more independent than just being one-sided!

Every Black Family must decorate their houses for Juneteenth Day. Put out the official Juneteenth Day flag and display it. Can that be done? Oh….if those don’t like the Stars and Stripes for the 4th, fly the Juneteenth.

How many times that we were reminded to “Take your place” from the scene of Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Family Reunion? Not put you in your place, but TAKE YOUR PLACE! Just a reminder: Cicely Tyson’s character centered this statement!

When 2020 arrives: is respirations on the list FINALLY?!

When July 4th, 2020 arrives next year, are we going to act more Patriotic and actually VOTE?!! Forget about all the speeches that are anti this or that, what about just going to ballots and VOTE!

When July 4th, 2020 gets here, how many of will not rely on Facebook to sway our votes in a Patriotic manner?

When July 4th, 2020 gets year in a Patroitic manner are we just going to not do nothing or actually get something started to create things HAPPEN?

By the time July 4th, 2020 passes, 10 days later, will be the 2020 DNC Convention in Milwaukee. Will the DNC be Brew City Ready?

And the final question of this 4th of July…….when 2020 gets here are we still going to work towards freedom instead of painting it like a bad habit?

Until the next one: The Struggle (like marathon) Continues!

Juneteenth Day 2019

For all those knowing it all, hear these words: “Juneteenth Day Matters Like The 4th Of July.”

I repeat: “Juneteenth Day Matters Like The 4th Of July.”

Saying it is the stone cold truth! And does matter because part of this is American History. And the second part of this is that it’s apart of Black History that many should know . Juneteenth Day or the June 19th is the day in American History that slaves were given news that they have been set free from the villainy of slavery. They were officially free 2 years after the signature of the Emancipation Proclamation that was adopted and in acted by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863. This was done also before his assassination by John Wilkes Booth around the 1860’s time frame. So yet, with all the hoopla surrounding the occasion, yes every American, and I mean EVERY AMERICAN no matter how woke, conscious or all patriotic flag waving american you are, every one should learn about this “black” version of Independence Day that it took nearly 90 years after 1776. Actually it was 89.

Classic Milwaukee Juneteenth Day Footage

But why does June 19th care? Why does it care to many of us African-Americans the most than the 4th of July and also why does it get many white folks upset about this day over the 4th? Especially on Facebook! I’m on the History Channel’s Facebook Page and I’m reading all these comments about Juneteenth that yes many didn’t know that it does exists and it should be taught in schools. However there are those (and white) had to be very stupid in a remarkable manner about well they should be glad that the slaves made it to America during the time-frame and trying to get freedom like the promise was uphold. Well let’s get to the punchline. THEY WERE NOT FREE! It was not enough! Even after the adoption of the Declaration of Independence the black folks were not totally free. At the time, the only way that the slaves were set free in all, is they had to serve in the Continental Army part of the Militia. And if they served during that term, they were given their freedom. That was one of the ways that the slaves, especially the male black slaves were set free the most. Oh, even the British did the same thing. They took the slaves already in America and some did join under the King to take up arms to get freedom. But keep in mind, this was the 1770’s and it took about 80 plus years to get this motion of freedom in the minds of the colonies.

When folks make some dumb remarks about Juneteenth and not understanding the full meaning behind it, this is why America currently is not that well educated. Its dumb idiots on Facebook that have not done their homework, or actually went to a Juneteenth Day festival or any Juneteenth Fundraiser or any Juneteenth Day anything to gain the knowledge and stories of why this matters like the 4th of July. What I’m saying here is not just for some idiots, even those whom disrupt problems can be a fool too at Juneteenth Festivals. Of course I’m talking about festival goers of color. When Milwaukee had it’s Juneteenth Day Parades and Festivals in the beginning, according to the historians, the festival was from Day to Night. Now It’s from Day to late afternoon to 6:00pm. And the main reasons why that many didn’t felt safe after the fights and mess up disruptions that fest goers saw first hand. Oh, of course again this is about the black folks. Way before the era of Woke and Conscious came out. But we know this.

Juneteenth Is Important – The Root.com

CALLOUT: The real issue is lack of knowledge, lack of education, lack of understanding and lack of advisement about Juneteenth!!!!!!

SPOILER ALERT! When the 4th of July comes, folks will be asking about Juneteenth. Just wait. Just wait until someone on your Social Media lists mentions it. I’m giving everyone an “Early Warning” right now and when the 4th comes many will unleash about the truth about 4th of YOU LIE stuff and many of the White Folks will get UPSET! Don’t believe me? Just wait on it. And also, don’t be surprised that many black folks celebrate the fourth and have reminders of Juneteenth EVERYDAY! I’m one of them. Yes, I’ll decorate my Milwaukee house with Red, White, and Blue which is my choice and yet after it’s done, back to reality. So I’m not afraid of the truth about the 4th and nor I’m not afraid that many of the ideals of Juneteenth Day had not reached the many foothills of this country!

What is Juneteenth?

On Juneteenth Day, there was talks about respiration on Capitol Hill. Danny Glover and Ta-Neishi Coates were testifying on why it’s necessary that Black Folks need that 40 acres and a Mule to solidify fairness and prosperity of the faults of America’s Slavery/Racial past. And some of that still exists today in different forms of 2019! This year of 2019 marks 400 years of the last Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade that came to Jamestown, Virginia in 1619. This is also called the “year of the return” in quoting our Ghana brothers and sisters in Africa. And also Ghana is “welcoming” some of us black folks here in the state back there to gain a greeting of being back home. And yes of course it’s same continent that sold their own into slavery in the first place. Black folks, as much as we love Africa, that part is the truth. If we want to learn about our people, yes we can talk about our folks whom were raped, beaten shackled, bought, sold, separated, and many other inhumane acts against our folks whom are our ancestors. And also yes we had black folks that tried to fight back against the slavery acts and even spoke out against the 4th of July being a sham. I’m referencing Frederick Douglass. And I wonder how the black historians will respond about 400 years after 1619 in 2019 on America’s Birthday on July 4th. That remains to be seen.

Juneteenth Day is like the last pitcher in Baseball. When the player comes to the mound, it’s the closer. It’s the “be all end all” of the previous era of slavery. So when you do the math: from 1619 to 1865, it’s about 246 years of oppression, malice and fear of slavery. Between the years, around the 157th year, this was I think 1776 came into play as being as the beginning pitch of a new game of Independence. So if we want to get back with fighting against the 4th, let’s go after August of 1619. That’s where it starts. The Independence Day factor was a build up in trying to break up the slavery acts and freedom. But again, it took 89 years to get to 1865.

I hope that many who acted a freaking fool on Social Media probably got a woke lesson. If not, then they are failing. They will fail, suffer, blame others on education, broke at a job, no relationship or divorce, get old, probably diagnosed with a deadly disease and die. But the fact of the matter is when they try to talk about it, they will just post a message and get likes plus comments. BUT THEY WILL NEVER ACTUALLY DO THE JOB!

Folks, you really want to learn Juneteenth? You better study up all day everyday. And yet you better start doing it right now. Don’t wait until the next Juneteenth, because many of you might be gone. You all better get on it RIGHT NOW! This is not a game and there ain’t no mulligans.

Henceforth: Juneteenth Day Matters like the 4th of July: in terms of Freedom and Independence!

While many of us were taking the day off from work and school, the infamous Memorial Day Holiday returned as well as the “unofficial”start of the 2019 summer season. You know that is when many will start to travel alot? Yeah that one. This is also the same Memorial Day when many of us in the black community will remind the country that it was black folks that made the holiday. Long history of that missed! And also, it appears that the sacrilegious saying again of “Happy Memorial Day” is dumb as a you know what.

But however, I’m scratching my head again.

Stop Saying Happy Memorial Day!

Like last year and this year and the year before that AND THE YEAR BEFORE THAT: WHY THE HELL ARE WE SAYING HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY?!! It’s not for the living! Stop it, new generation folks!

I need to ask this: does the African-American Community receives an honor on Memorial Day when many of our black servicemen died or KIA in battle? Even while serving when the country didn’t give them love previously?

The month of May is Military Appreciation Month, right? So which military member of any branch should be given love each day that HASN’T been appreciated?

Who’s ready for Rambo? Coming in September!

As the field of candidates grows for 2020, which of them really has a shot of getting after 45?

Well they tried, the 2018-2019 Milwaukee Bucks season was ended by the Toronto Raptors in the Eastern Conference Finals. So overall, how did the Deer do with a Central Division Title Win and a budding future?

HOLD UP: Is AEW Wrestling “REALLY THAT SERIOUS” wanting to go after WWE? On the heels of the Double or Nothing Pay Per View? By the way if I’m AEW in all, don’t go greedy in all taking out Vince. Just saying! Be your own brand and your OWN stuff.

Stop the press: who did not know that Assassin’s Creed III was out on the Nintendo Switch?! Anyone surprised?

Question: Are the Milwaukee Black Panthers really serious about disrupting the summer festivals just to protest the concerns of the city? Come on now.

Last year, Wolfenstein II was that combat game for the Nintendo Switch. So….which war game is next for the console?

For the old school gaming crowd: who has the Blast! Controllers with the HDMI plug ins? Why I’m asking this? It’s for the Atari folks at heart.

For the next month of June: Black Music Month, Pride Month, a Month set aside for Fathers, Juneteenth Day, Flag Day, The First Day of Summer………and oh, you know us men have to realize that it’s also Men’s Health Month? Wear light blue, gents!

Why many STILL ask those whom are single and no kids: “what’s wrong?” The real question is, why does it matter to you? Here’s some advice: Get your life! Switch your lanes!

Why many ask those whom are introverted that are “anti-social?!” Knowing its not the people, it’s really the connection.

North American Challenge: How many residents of #Toronto, Canada do not know anything about #Milwaukee? I’m not talking about sports here. Place your bets. Either American dollars or Canadian Dollars.

Hold up: Noah’s Ark is turning 40 years old in the Wisconsin Dells. Who’s parting while riding Black Anaconda or Raja or whatever waterslide they have?

It’s all over: Who still hasn’t seen Game Of Thrones?

For its 100th year, can the American Legion go to the inner city schools/events to assist them about black history war figures? Along with the Auxiliary, Riders and Sons? This is a serious question here. Not knocking the suburbs. I really need to see the African-American Legion posts at work on this!

How do we like the Deer District, Milwaukee?

Is the new Chevy Blazer that serious to sell?

Wisconsin: we turned 171 years old this week. How is the montage connection of Governor Tony Evers is doing after a year not dealing with Scott Walker?

How will Juneteenth Day 2019 turn up? Even in the year of the return?

Black Men/Women: when we are stopped by the police or had been stopped by the police, do we feel a sense of concern like they are going to get us? And could this be one of the reasons why an interest in Police work is not out of the question?

Old Town Road

Seriously folks, is Lil Nas X’s song “Old Town Road” really that disrespectful to country music? Even though black folks made the genre in the first place? Happy early Black Music Month.

And the Final question: Has EVERY American understood this? Be honest. I know we love our troops and veterans in all, but keep it real!

Happy 4th yet again, y’all.

We already know that the country has turned another age in all, but we already know that the ongoing struggle in America indeed continues. And yes if you’re Black, you probably had been called out being a sellout all because you wore the Red/White/Blue instead of the Red/Black/Green. Or you might have sang the National Anthem without any concern except the fact the third verse had a racial thing attached. But as we put away the fireworks and flags in all, I’m scratching my head again.

Ok, did anyone actually read the Declaration? I mean really? What was summarized?

Black folks, we already know about the slavery side of 1776, but what about those whom served in both armies of the Continential, and the British that guaranteed freedom? Yes blacks did served under the flags back then.

Here is a question: I was reading Sophia A. Nelson’s book, “E Plurbis One”, and two of our founding fathers, Benjamin Franklin and John Adams were against slavery. And slightly before the founding year, the idea was shot down. Did you know this?

With all the 4th of July parades and parties in America, why not enough black folks? (At least the parade side)

Frederick Douglass’ speech from 1852 “What to the slave mean to the Fourth of July?” is like a call out to the “hypocritical attitude” of being free for most, not many. Any questions on that?

Best movies to watch on the fourth happens to be ranked of all time? Must include Independence Day and The Patriot.

I hear black folks saying, “that flag wasn’t meant for us!” Well, what flag is?

Why do certain folks like to scream out “Fourth of You Lie?!” And also to add, “what are you celebrating?” Like really?

How come we didn’t point out the verse “No heirling for a slave” before like last couple of years in the National Anthem?
NATIONAL ANTHEMS RENDITIONS:

Was Whitney Houston’s version of the Star Spangled Banner from 1991 the best ever?

Was Marvin Gaye’s Star Spangled Banner from 1983 good? Like 35 years ago?

What about Jimi Hendrix’s version of the Anthem?
AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL RENDITIONS:

Which “America The Beautiful” was and is the best to hear? – Aretha Franklin, John Legend or Chloe/Halle ? (Reference Wrestlemania)
USA DREAM TEAMS

Which Team USA Basketball team was better: 1992 or 2008? ’92 all the way!

Which team is America’s team deserving? I STILL say the Green Bay Packers!

And which “USA Dream Team” is in the making right now in sports that NOBODY is talking about but will have to examine? I might say the US Rugby Team. Who knows?

When will the real American businesses recognize “Made in America” like really?

Chris Rock once said, “Happy White People’s Independence Day”. Last year, Damon Wayans Jr said “Happy racist white people’s day”. Both got slandered and attacked after telling the truth. Well white folks and everyone else, had their punchlines “told the truth?”

Heard that the new San Antonio Spurs player, Lonnie Walker IV had to delete his tweet after he posted about not celebrating the 4th and telling everyone to stay woke. Umm………why was the tweet deleted after not standing his proof enough?

Is “every way” the American way?

How many Americans did not know what Juneteenth Day was about?

How many Americans did not know that Juneteenth Day came approximately 89 years total after 1776?

Speaking of that: Black folks, an idea here: we should wear the numbers 89 or 87 on July 4th (in either red white and blue; or red black and green) to symbolize the amount of years it took black folks to get the freedom we all talk about. Can that be done? And yes we can rock it for Juneteenth Day.

It’s 2018: you know you can be revolutionary by voting in the Midterms, right?

How many Americans did not know that the 4th of July is not always about fireworks?

How many Black T-Shirt makers can create a #MelaninPatriot shirt? or a “The Struggle Continues” in the Stars and Stripes and sell it?

Speaking of Juneteenth yet again, you know the official colors of the Juneteenth Day Flag is Red, White and Blue, right?

We know that Philly throws 4th of July Celebrations alot due to the birth of the nation. But can Milwaukee have a 4th of July party concerts with the locals musicians?

Speaking of Patriotic: which figures in American History seemed to be the most patriotic in terms of speaking out against racism, police brutality, white supremacy, and many other shameful acts?

Which zodiac sign is more like a patriot? I say……..my sign, Sagittarius.

Who is the more of the local patriots that knows the game in the local communities of the struggle, and I dare say the culture?

Milwaukee needs a 4th of July style laser light/fireworks/DJ Show. Who can do this?

Besides the Military, is the average community organizer, or everyday union worker or an everyday working person/volunteer that is very UNSUNG is also patriotic or revolutionary?

And now for the final question: Don’t be offended by the picture below.

Relax and breathe.

Black folks: we know already that many of us don’t really celebrate the 4th Of July by an example of the memes below. And yes, our ancestors were in shackles, branded, whipped, had no freedom, no liberty, no justice, no peace to be us. We were stripped from our former names to get the names like Toby out of Roots. We were forced to be bought and paid in auctions, but like Cicely Tyson said in one of Tyler Perry’s movie “Madea’s Family Reunion” in the line to the family: Now it’s time to take your place!” We also have this tendency to tell folks not to celebrate the 4th all because our ancestors were slaves. We weren’t beaten. But the legality of those beatings linger into police brutality, racism, sexism, discrimination among minorities, and others. We get sensitive when we see our brothers and sisters wearing red white and blue and shake our heads. Why?!!!!

If a black man or a black woman wants to celebrate the 4th in a way different, LET THEM CELEBRATE! Last year, I was listening to one of my local black radio hosts on WNOV 860. There was a black female caller who expressed about the celebrations of Juneteenth Day. However she also expressed about celebrating the Fourth of July. As we all know from her comment that this country was built on the backs of us Black folks either as slaves and freed people. We definitely know this and should know. And the thing is we always hear about us going back to Africa. Well many people forget, not too many in Africa like us African-Americans maybe because many of us haven’t been there! Many forget that part of the slavetrade, came out of Africa (partially sold by other blacks) which was a forgotten comment! And of course, America ate up the idea of slavery and served it up until 1865, when the slaves were declared free. According to Vibe.com, Roland Martin was on the Wendy Williams Show the year before (after she talked smack about the HBCU’S), cited that black people were “technically free”:

If you had to place a marker on when black folks were technically fully free Americans, it’s 1970.

So as I look at this meme with the word Independence spelled wrong, (don’t blame the Public Schools) a Tupac pic, and all the talk about Juneteenth Day being celebrated and something forgotten, and with the ongoing crimes, racism, sexism, discrimination, police brutality, war against blacks lives, undocumented murders against black folks and many other concerns, I must ASK this:

Have we fully gained our Independence so far? And after celebrating Juneteenth, did we fully gained OUR freedom as of right now? Let that sink in.

Callout: Freedom is still not free. Even after 242 years and even after 153 years. Let’s be real, the struggle to get to that freedom thing is going to take a ongoing four letter word of WORK!

And by the way, I need to say this: If a black man or woman or a black kid wants to celebrate BOTH the Fourth and Juneteenth, even if they fly the flags, or decorate the house, man let them. Just let them! Stop the calling out the coon or sellout names. That can somewhat die now. Some folks celebrate their birthdays on those days. Or a anniversary. Or whatever. Malia Obama’s birthday is July 4th….Hello! Let’s be clear, for those of us whom are so “conscious and woke”, look: your opinions are just that. Your own! Let the folks whom are so “Melanin Patriot Powered” have their day. Leave them alone! Let them reclaim their time. No one is not forcing you to celebrate the holiday, where as you should not force anyone to say: “Remember and celebrate Juneteenth Day!” Trust me you will not win that argument at all. I’m just saying, you say that forcefully and folks will still sleep. I mean correct me if I’m wrong, isn’t one of the Bill of Rights has the words, “Freedom of Expression” in it? Hey, let that sink in! And this applies to us like everyday.

Can I get a “Hotep” peace mixed in with a thanks of God Bless America?

Thank You.

Truth be told: It’s June 19th. AKA – Juneteenth Day.

And the thing is there is a scratching of the heads from those whom feel that they never knew the holiday, or the occasion why this day exists.

It’s always been here. And it’s been around since June 19th, 1865.

If those need a history lesson on why Juneteenth Day is here and why it exists, let this enlighten you.

I’m assuming that many woke up this morning and asking what’s Juneteenth Day? I’m assuming that many didn’t get the memo about the last of the black slaves that were set free on this day in 1865 in Galveston, Texas. I’m assuming that yes, Abraham Lincoln scripted the document, the Emancipation Proclaimation on January 1st, 1863 in the idea of setting up the plan to free the slaves and the use of the word FREEDOM. Yes, that is what Juneteenth is in a sense, the freedom day that blacks heard the news that the last of the slavery portion was indeed over.

Why is this holiday since 1865 really matter to……let’s say the 4th of July? You know that the 4th of July in which many will dress like Lady Liberty, and fireworks in your local parks? Yeah, that one. But it’s also the same 4th of July that my ancestors were in bondage. They were slaves. They didn’t get all the freedoms that the rich white folks and their associates had to get. The ONLY way that the Slaved Men of African Decent had to get freedom back in the 18th Century in all, was to do one thing: serve in the Continental Army for one year and after that service is up, they will be guaranteed their freedom. Even the British Army were given the same option! The whole Fourth of July, or the “Fourth of YOU LIE!” thing was really about the freedom thing being denied due to the black folks being enslaved of no rights! From 1776 to 1865, black folks had to endure approximately 89 years of being enslaved with the words: tyranny, oppression and persecution. Oh they couldn’t enjoy the fireworks.

We all know that. I think we know it without all the googles.

Now to the crowd is asking this question: “Why didn’t I learned this in school?” I can answer that: it was never taught to you. The teachers you had probably never taught you that part of black history that should have been part of the curriculum. The real blame in my view is on the curriculum. Not just the teachers and authors of updated history books! The reason I picked the curriculum because I think it starts at the top of the educational food chain in all of the schools. And yes, as an Alumni of a School District like Milwaukee, and colleges like Milwaukee’s MATC and UW-Stout I agree with this message.

Juneteenth Day is important to summarize like the 4th of July in a sense because it was and is a monumental event in history of gaining independence. Gaining freedom. Gaining prosperity. And yes, gaining a thought to be equal for all. The late MLK as many like to quote alot, had often said “be true what you say on paper!” Be true! Don’t just be like, “oh, I like the blacks and I got black friends!” Or bringing up about Black on Black Crime, or the dumb question of “what are you celebrating?

Spoiler Alert: You will be asked that same question about celebrating the 4th of July. Just wait.

Now folks, can we please stop? Just stop right there.

If many really have black friends that dealt with police brutality, racism, being discriminated due to financial, spiritual, health related matters in all, even shot in the back while running from the cops for no reason, what is the deal?!

The deal is, in my opinion, even though that Juneteenth Day 2018 is coming to a close for another year, between now and next year, what’s next after all of the parades, food, merch, and red drinks like kool-aid?And how come Juneteenth Day doesn’t have a fireworks display? Come on, now! Propose an idea to get a fireworks display on the week before or after June 19th! Just like in the local festivals.

America must continue to deal with the grip of facing the realities of racism. Mainly of race. Juneteenth Day may abolished the thought of slavery, the reality of this is that spirit of slavery in such of Jim Crow, and up until now: the struggle continues! Even I say this after the Fourth of July will be concluded with the last blast of fireworks and picnics, and many may forget, guess what: THE STRUGGLE CONTINUES! Even in the era of 45 making a fool out of us and the world is probably asking what is wrong with America?

Oh you don’t hear me!

So yes: Happy Juneteenth Day! And also – the struggle does indeed, continues!
