By now, you had the turkey. You had the dressing. You had the cranberry sauce, vegetables, and pie. You’re probably stuffed with all the food. And yes, you probably went to a late night club and got started by shaking down those pounds, carbs and calories. Of course, that’s what Thanksgiving would do to you you fill up and you got to lose weight! Hopefully many of you have had a blessed Thanksgiving, a blessed time with your families and friends and strangers probably came in and see you have something to eat. And hopefully that maybe you’ll do the same thing for the upcoming Christmas season. And of course we have to talk about politics, 45’s crappy stuff, the ongoing problems and concerns about black neighborhoods, churches being so hypocritical, (which partially the good ones can stay afloat) and also your basic everyday road rage and folks driving to crazy and asking the same by the question what is your problem? And just the ad more walls and joys and concerns of holiday employment. Yes if you have not guessed it Christmas is coming. But guess what? I’m scratching my head again.

How thankful are really the things you have already, and willing to go for?

Question for Milwaukee, now we all know that mayor Tom Barrett it’s going to put his seat on the line for the fifth time. But the big question is will he able to retain it with the likes of Lena Taylor and Tony Zielinski. Plus voters that may or may not favor him?

Is the Milwaukee Streetcar really that pointless?! After one year?!

Okay this needs to be asked, which relative really sparked that conversation that you did not want to talk about at the dinner table on Thanksgiving?

You know this is going to happen which came first your football game or Macy’s Parade?

Milwaukee: the Brewers now has a new logo, as a matter of fact: they have brought back the old ball/glove logo that has been slightly enhanced for the ball club’s upcoming 50th season next year. Yes the Brewers are turning 50. Will this next era bring a thing called a Championship?

Already, the 2010s decade is vastly closing real soon, What was your best moment?

Okay this needs to be asked again: which families do and do not use canned cranberry sauce?

For those who may have been “triggered” on Thanksgiving, you probably read about the Indians being murdered after a church service on Sunday morning. And for those of you who probably have never had a chance to re-read the question you might have been triggered all the wrong questions. Did any of us ever had the chance to research the truth?

Which of you Facebook and Instagram users were so scared and worried about the transmissions being almost cancelled on Thanksgiving?

Who was not prepared for the “onslaught” on Black Friday?

For people who drive so stupid in Wisconsin roads, Wisconsin streets, Milwaukee areas, and I know who I’m talking about, when someone is trying to make a turn, or coming out the driveway, coming out of the garage , why do you honk your horn so bad? That right there is going to make you look stupid and irritated. Don’t be surprised if cars come equipped with cameras so they can record your every single driving mode get your license plate and check you. And by the way, that idea is coming for me in 2020 for my cars. Just wait. I’m not playing!

Is Black Friday really worth shopping nowadays?

For the sake of those asking and this is the only question asking why is it that a TV is mentioned on Black Friday the most? As everybody knows.

Right now, the Hallmark channel has it’s Christmas movies playing. And many of us are still wondering why. But you know something, BET, TVOne, and other channels have Christmas movies too. Can you check out those?

For all of my introverted readers, can any of us relate to this?

Attention Black Friday shoppers don’t mean to ask this but, you will be hearing this from your pastor on Sunday. Don’t get triggered because you know it’s the truth. Am I wrong or right?

Is the pressure of the WWE is really building from AEW wrestling?

For all of my UPS, FedEx, USPS, and many other delivery package drivers this holiday season take a look at this:

Now you really have to ask this one question, what kind of mess and crap is this? and the thing is the woman on the video had some crack was on drugs by the way claiming that her car was broken into so many times on outside of a house. Anything is try that turn into racism is really stupid. I hope that no black driver or driver helper this holiday season coming out should not want not and will not go through that type of stupid remarks of racism and many other factors. And this is one of the main reasons why race is still on the deck of the topics of tables in American households, classrooms, churches, the dinner table, the neighborhoods, the malls, the restaurants, and many other places we go and spend our money every single day. They say that the holiday supposed to bring up the good folks in everybody, but I have to remember they can bring out the worst in people too, and this is not about losing folks to death. Even racism place apart around this season especially for those who are trying to do some good deeds by deliver packages to houses or businesses every single day. And don’t assume that the influence of 45 is afoot.

For Small Business Saturday, the day after Black Friday, which is the best small business you go to support every single day?

For Cyber Monday, which online store you support the most everyday? and don’t assume it’s always Amazon.

For Giving Tuesday, which companies or donations you support the most? As in idea: DONATE TO YOUR ALUMNI!

Milwuakee, it was so naked without our former traditional Christmas Parade that lasted for so long. What will it take to get a new tradition like that to stick for another Generation?

Speaking of “the current Generation that doesn’t want to go on” what is up with Milwaukee restauruant Vitucci’s closing up after 85 years?

Now for you Millennials and Generation Z folks: What is up with this #OKBoomer mess? If any generation can go one on one the most, is Generation X.

For my Live Streaming Folks and I know you got this: Christmas is coming and I’m looking for a gift to save money and get the best live streaming device on the market. I’m looking at Amazon Firesticks, Roku, Android TV JetStream devices and that’s it. So I’m asking all of you, which is the best one you think is the best to buy? Drop a comment in the box or on Facebook.

Sometimes football players make bonehead moves. Myles Garrett. And also this Ole Miss Player, Elijah Moore after making a play, made a dog peeing gesture and costed him and the team the game vs Mississippi State. What was the point of that dumb move?

You know the Milwaukee Bucks are RED HOT right now. How far will they go for another playoff run?

So far, the Green Bay Packers had 8 victories and 3 losses. But this last loss vs a different San Francisco Team gave the Green and Yellow a worst L on the record. The last time they played the 49ers: Colin Kaepernick was playing and won 17-3. Yeah Niners, the Pack won that one. But December is coming and the team usually comes out firing the Big Guns the most in the birthday month of Aaron Rodgers. And mine. Will the Packers make a statement and bust out the guns again in the 12th Month?

And so far, the Wisconsin Badgers are undefeated at the Battleground. And they must go for the Axe vs Minnesota. I think the Badgers must use this as a chance to get redemption vs the Golden Gophers after this ugly L in the Mad City last year:

Will they do this? And keep in mind, it’s not the same Badgers team like last year.

In the next 8 months, Milwaukee will be home of the DNC Convention. Is the Brew City/Cream City really ready for full tilt in Democratic Blue?

For you non Milwaukeeans, yes we’re also called Cream City. Not because of cows or milk. It’s really because of the buildings that have a creamy look on them that blend in. Who knows? And you know why the Milwaukee Bucks have “Cream City” on the jerseys?

How about this interview between the Undertaker and Stone Cold Steve Austin? Very interesting to see on the WWE Network!

Is the confidence of Christmas still an all time high? Not weather wise I should say.

Just to add also, TV One is doing at Family Matters Reunion all weekend long. Yes, nothing but Urkel all day and night. Who’s watching?

If the decade of the 2010s were to end today, what would have been the worst and best moment? I’ll also save that next month.

CALLOUT: Black people: why do you still put a pic of White Jesus on your Facebook pages? Knowing the fact you know better that Jesus WAS BLACK! Speaking of “slave mentality” and “being on the plantation”.

Black People: you do realize that there is an African Heritage Study Bible that really details the truth in biblical times?

Uh-oh: there are names being purged from the voting records. You voters better get to your Election Offices to make sure you are straight with your voter statuses! Now will you be ready when the voting year comes?

All this technology stuff and google searches, and you can’t really read certain books?

And the last thing to ask: After all this weekend of Black Fridays in all, and the racism, and the good things to happen yet to come, what will the 12th month bring and to make sure that you stay afloat?

In the meantime: Happy Thanksgiving!

I was going to do a “double take” on a subject and a different perspective. But in the recent events of the liberal news gone wrong, (thought I would never say that) this was a bomb shell that many of us had never saw coming. September 10th was the end of The Forum here in Milwaukee. And who’s the blame on this? Let’s read on.

If many listened to the radio station 1510am Tuesday morning on September 10th, you may have heard the very last of The Forum with Sherwin Hughes. For many of us in the Greater Milwaukee Area that know, listening to him was a different perspective on politics and the current events. Many of us listened to Sherwin before in the days of the Basement Crew on 98.3 and of course, WNOV. Last year as we know, Sherwin’s abrupt end on WNOV was in a Facebook post due to “irreconcilable differences” with him and the Management. That was last July, however between last August until now his show was resurrected with Resistance Radio. Again if many have not listened to Resistance Radio its like progressive radio in which it is. There are many Conservative Radio stations around the state of Wisconsin that cater to many white conservative folks that want it keep it on the right and red. But not many liberal and progressive radio news. This is part of the reason why Real Resistance Radio is now on the air.

So who is next to listen to? Who is next to help bring the real pain of progressive radio of Democratic styles in all to the airwaves ESPECIALLY IN THE BLACK MILWAUKEE COMMUNITY! We know Earl Ingram can. He’s been in the game of fight for the truth for DECADES! But he’s doing on the Baby Boomer side of things. Not a concern. But for Sherwin, it was from in my view point, a Generation X Viewpoint. I said it. I’m Gen X also. Not a Millennial or Gen Z. And the thing is during this past year, he picked up where he left off since leaving WNOV last year. And yet when I listened to his final broadcast behind the mic, he kept referring “the writing on the wall” in terms when would be the time to move forward. Of course when a player tells the press or media that it’s time to retire or quit, of course many of us will feel that impact. Maybe because it’s due to family, health concerns, other assignments or many other factors. It’s kind of interesting also that this announcement came on the week of the anniversary of two things: 9/11 and the passing of Eric Von. I think in Sherwin’s case, it’s about moving to a more free and appreciative angle that he can handle. And also the concerns of the station of Real Resistance Radio was highly examined. And he was very vocal about his stance about the work done. Is Real Resistance Radio the blame here? What about the Democratic Party is facing a mess? Internally? And again, which side is truly A BLAME in this matter? The Right Wing or in this case, The Left Wing Progressives that is now starting to mess up? Think about it! Sherwin briefly described it. Even concerning about the DNC Connectional things that are coming to Milwaukee. He’s been on the WRRD thing for 6 months to one year and was just forgotten he was still there. I know I’m spoiling the sentences that he said in his last Forum Radio Show, but the thing is this: It was noting that it was time to tell the butt naked truth. Now, nothing against Real Resistance Radio, or WNOV or 98.3 or any of the bosses or managers that he worked under. Or even the guests he had. At the end of the day, when it’s all set and done, from an individual stance, we must do what is best for us. We know that in the game of working for the man/woman is not going to be forever. We know this. But I see Sherwin in his next level doing things bigger than the talk radio business. There is always that next level thing we have to understand to walk away. We all will have to take this difficult walk. It’s going to be hard and of course what lies ahead is another question in thought. Homer Blow asks the question all the time: “What’s Next?” We don’t know what’s next yet. No one knows that day or hour. But whatever comes next will come into the light.

This is why I blog the way I do. I pick up on his shows to give my viewpoints here of what’s going on. And to summarize it in a way here that many of you outside of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the Midwest and yet the United States don’t know. We “average bloggers” write what is around us. No matter if it’s health, jobs, a unexpected death, politics, fun stuff, whatever. Even if it’s something we regret in our past that should be a life lessons for those reading in the future. Even church. Somebody say AMEN!

So with Sherwin now out of the radio picture unceremoniously, who’s left to listen to in a black perspective? Again, for 1510am we got Earl Ingram, out in Madison there is a black woman by the name of Brandi Grayson who appears on Talk 92.7 in the state’s capitol. Which is part of the Real Resistance Radio Network. Here in Milwaukee: already Homer Blow via Blowradio.com, Michelle Bryant, Keith Parris, Faith Colas, Keyon Jackson-Malone, and Darryll Fortune on WNOV. There’s not too many of us in black talk radio in Milwaukee or in the State.Who is next to join the pack that many ask? Only time will tell. I say for those of us who want to be engaged in black talk radio in the city, I would probably say give these individuals a shot. They may not be the kind you want in talk radio, this is all we have for now.

So like the last time: what were my top 10 Forum moments that I know from memory? Let’s count the ways:

10) The UWM Controversial Poster. This was mostly disturbing.

9) A posting The Forum did on Facebook regarding those who left Milwaukee and thinking what is best for the city. Especially for those who USED TO vote, work, volunteer and play in the city.

8) WRRD 1510 Received an Award from the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association. The station came in third place and it was because of The Forum.

7) Several interviews with Milwaukee/Wisconsin Congressmen, Alder-persons, Senators. All Milwaukee related. And even replaying a footage that Sen. Lena Taylor made an announcement in running for Mayor for 2020.

6) Last year when The Forum was on the scene when former president Barack Obama was in town for campaign of the 2018 election of the state. The same one later on that Tony Evers won.

5) Last year in November, when the acknowledgement of International Men’s Day was mentioned and yes there was a reason why Men should have their day and time to shine. Even though it was short, but it was a mini statement. International Men’s Day in which many forget: it’s November 19th.

4) Sherwin had this guest on The Forum before, but Shannon Lewendowski a FORMER police officer of the Milwaukee PD and like before, she knew the weaknesses of Milwaukee that every-time she talks about it, the guest usually gets warned about it. But the fact of the matter is, most of what she said was the butt naked truth!

3) See Number 4.

2) The Final Broadcast of the Forum we did not see coming on September 10th. And yet, Sherwin was very expressive in the year overall since the left leaning progressive station was not that VERY keen on Sherwin’s intellect and viewpoints. Especially after realization that sometimes DEMOCRATS can be a mistake in starting up stuff they really can’t hardly finish. And yet, it’s a mess not cleaning up. Many didn’t like it, but it was partially the truth.

And the Number one thing that I’ll remember from The Forum in a resistance side: His comeback show from August of last year of 2018. It was his first since leaving WNOV in July of the same year.

To listen to the last talk show of The Forum on this date of September 10th, 2019, click here and press play. The Forum does have it’s own web page, that you can listen to the last broadcast and also the previous broadcasts of the days from WRRD and WNOV at the same time. It’s all on there. So if any one is looking for them to see if it’s still usable to listen to, it’s on there. All of the 1,000 plus episodes of the broadcasts via Soundcloud.

As far as the now former host is concerned, there is an organization in the city he founded a while back and it’s in a supporting role in regarding the future elections of Milwaukee candidates. Look for “Leaders for a Better Community” and find ways to support and get involved! Oh, and one more thing, if many want to keep up with fans of The Forum, follow along for a member group request on Facebook.

Apparently this is not the way to drop another stunner on Milwaukee Black Talk Radio, but knowing that there will be another one that will renew a idea to let us (and I mean US) have our say!

Well, it’s Milwaukee Day. The unofficial holiday to somewhat celebrate as an extension of the city’s original birthday with pride, but however yes it’s a day to celebrate us Brew City folks. Now, yes we do got problems of Lead Water, Segregation, Jobs, and a way just to be economically sound. Yes, this is our day of April 14th, as we once again for about the 10th time, recognize 414 Day. And despite of the positives and negatives, we know by now: I’m scratching my head again. And this time, it’s for the locals.

So how does one celebrate Milwaukee Day, or 414 Day, anyway?

MILESTONE: Oh, 2009 marks the 10th anniversary of Milwaukee Day. It started with a joke. Now with that joke in the rear view, again how does one celebrate and what will be for the next 10 years of future Milwaukee Days and beyond?

City Hall with the 414 Flag

Many probably wondered about the 2020 DNC Convention coming to Milwaukee next year. BUT, if Milwaukee can hold over 50,000 folks every 5 years for Harley-Davidson’s Birthday, why not this?

At this year’s State of the City Address, the Mayor stated that “Milwaukee is fighting back.” Well many will ask, what are we fighting back with?

Is the Milwaukee Streetcar or The Hop holding up well? I don’t see any haters talking. They must be quiet.

Speaking of Facebook: If you follow the Page 414 Milwaukee Mil Town, you might be brought back to yesteryear when the City was totally different. And actually stood for something other than being a bland city. Take a look if you don’t mind. And ask yourself, “Was Milwaukee like this?!” WOW!

This needs no asking: Which Milwaukee neighborhood that many already knows, has the best outings, on point, real progressive, and actually gives back by stating of giving back? I say the Riverwest.

Oh this needs to be asked: Over the years, Milwaukee was and is known as the City of Festivals. And yet we had a City of Festivals Parade, a Milwaukee Christmas Parade and also The Great Circus Parade. If you can get one of these Parades back, what will it be?

This needs to be asked by some or a few, which neighborhoods in Milwaukee should be on the rise, on the comeback, and waiting to be recoginized to represent? I’ll say: Bay View, Bronzeville and my neighborhood I know personally: Lincoln Creek. And I say Lincoln Creek because I was raised in the neighborhood back in day when folks knew your name and where you live! It’s has to be represented even more NOW!

And may I add:

Well, it seems that Black History Month 2019 is about to be in the books. And apparently that this was one of the almost weird Black History Month Celebrations that has happened. Oh, yes it’s 93 years old. And it seems that many already forgotten that the occasion is not a racist celebration. And many had to be reminded that it does matter just like the various White stories we hear almost every day at work, school, or anywhere else. I said many times before that Black History is NOT American History. It may have some American elements in all, but it’s not only American. Black History is also celebrated in different world countries like Canada, the UK, France, Haiti, Jamaica, and others. It’s not just America alone!

So what were my moments that helped made Black History Month 2019 good?

Well, let’s start with the Oscars. No, I’m not going to go toe to toe and bash the Oscars in context. But I will say this: Regina King (aka Brenda Jenkins from 227) Black Panther walked with 3 Oscar W’s in the areas of Production Design won by Hannah Beachler who became the first African-American Female to win that category. Original Score of the movie won by
Ludwig Goransson (non-black), and also Best Costume Design by Ruth Carter. Oh, at long last after 30 years in the movie game: Spike Lee (YES THAT SPIKE LEE) after all this time, won an Oscar for directing as part of the win for the movie Black Klansman. This was Spike’s first Oscar Win and many thought that it was about time that he got one. Just to think, 30 years. Since the first movie that he directed: Do the Right Thing. And even though “Green Book” was highly undiscovered, the actor, however, Mahershala Ali became an Oscar Award Winner in getting the category’s Best Supporting Actor. Later on, Green Book won the best picture of the year and yes Octavia Spencer along with Mahershala were acknowledged.

For Music: I can name many: But Gary Clark, Jr won this one. If you have not picked up “This Land” at your Targets, Best Buys, Amazons, iTunes, or Google Play, your music collections in Black History Month was not saved! The album was supposed to be launched in March, but thankfully it was pushed back in February a week after his birthday on the 22nd. Yes, February 22nd was dubbed Washington’s Birthday, but I don’t think no one was thinking of that. Yes, this was the “This Land” album that had many folks buzzing since the video woke up all being shocked and surprised, with the black folks standing on the Confederate Flags. But it also dealt with the fact that racism is still an ugly feeling of hate on someone because of skin color. And many thought that Gary was separating the races in all. BULL CRAP! Many African-American Songwriters and musicians who were and mostly all Civil Rights Activists, Peace Activists and Social Justice Warriors all talked about how bad Racism/Discrimination is. So to those who were are want to be fans of Gary Clark, Jr. after he said the lyrics: “Run N***a Run, Run back where you come from”, you need to check yourself! He’s addressing the concern that many of you probably fear to talk about it at your group events full of black folks! And I’ll bet many of you, got Black Friends on speed dial! Don’t act surprised.

Here in Wisconsin: we had a debate about who should have been and chosen to be celebrated in the badger state’s Black History Highlights. The name Colin Kaepernick was on the minds of many. The Wisconsin GOP overwhelm didn’t add Colin Kaepernick’s name to the list of achievements due to his protesting of the NFL/National Anthem. Many called him being “too controversial.” And it gained national attention. However many in the Milwaukee area, where Colin was born decided to add his name to the City of Milwaukee’s Black History Month Segments in which many deemed well received as a good thing. Many also had agreed that other activists and civil rights leaders were deemed controversial, but many were praised for their work later on when they age or pass on. And yet, that was called out on being hypocritical. So yes, the City of Milwaukee accomplished a notion that the state’s GOP failed! And how DARE the Wisconsin GOP suggested to tell us whom to celebrate for our Month of Black History?! We don’t need NO ONE TELLING US whom to celebrate and highlight. No one! Also our new elected Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes was highlighted not only on the state level, but also in Milwaukee’s news outlets for Channel 6 and 12’s Black History Month’s Segments. Keep in mind, he’s the first African-American Lt. Governor in the state.

Another highlight of Black History Month in 2019 that I didn’t see coming: Solange Knowles, Beyoncé’s baby sister bought a social media website that many haven’t used in a while and also deleted years ago: BlackPlanet. You remember BlackPlanet where black folks and other folks logged in and getting all the info about who’s who? Way before Facebook and Instagram came in slightly after Myspace, and oh that’s where I met “Stacey Heskinson” and “Mary Lee” who were FAKES! Fake hookups! That is why I deleted my Black Planet Page is because of them and others like them who almost tricked me in giving money to them trying to get out of Nigeria. Yes, that’s the truth over 10 years ago. But since then, I stuck with those who know me and that lead me to Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Instagram, and others that are not tricky. And I’m sure many who used BlackPlanet then had been tricked. So I’m not really looking forward to the reunion of the BlackPlanet party, but I will say that yes if any black folks still want to go to Black Planet and revive the username and password, be my guest. But happy that Solange bought the company though.

Sidenote: even my denomination of the United Methodist Church had several Black History References from quizzes to Black Harry. Yes, black folks played a role in this and the tradition continues to this day as well as other denominations, non-denominational etc. Plus, several African-American Teachers decorated their classroom doors in honor of their Colleges, Fraternities, Sororities, famous figure in history, and many more! And the idea came from Facebook!

Back in Milwaukee, during the first week of Black History Month: MPS had a week of meetings, events, social plays and others in regarding “National Black Lives Matter Week”. And with the week in summary, also regarding the activities, that an idea to incorporate Black History in the school subjects everyday that many of the kids and teens can learn about other black leaders and legends other than Martin Luther King, Jr. other than Malcolm X, other than Rosa Parks, and etc. I don’t know about the other school districts, but WAKE UP! Black History is not just an “American Fad”. It’s for all to learn from. And on a side note, of course, we need to learn about our subject all the time every day like apps and tablets.  Also, one of our Milwaukee Municipal Judges Derek Mosley takes the time every February to summarize stories of Black History to social media. He’s been doing this for 10 years, and yet the summaries are still valuable for all to understand!  Follow him on Facebook!

However: I need to say something that I’ve been seeing a whole lot of #BlackHistory365 or #BlackHistoryEveryday or I’m black every month comments. I think we’re kind of missing the boat here. OF COURSE! We are supposed to summarize our culture everyday. But black folks, hear me out when I tell you at times, we DON’T hardly acknowledge our people EVERYDAY! We don’t do it like the other ethnics do all the time, everyday. The only time we acknowledge I think around celebrating our people is really around family reunions, weddings, anniversaries, the club, and yet also: funerals. But as far as more of everyday when many are not doing problems we skip over that for some reason. We go to work, school, or worrying about that thing in the Mall or stores! There was a comment asked about how can we celebrate our folks everyday and believe it or not, it was on the Stephen’s Spot Twitter Page. The answer was more like an opinionated thought of starting out basic and continue to build on the knowledge every time. Learn from those that have extended knowledge and to build your learning in summary. Of course, it’s hard to do, but ask this: If we can be so knowledgeable about Technology or the latest game, why can’t we be so knowledgeable about our history in the same context? Not just talking the talk, BUT ACTUALLY, WALK THE FREAKING WALK! Man, we can hashtag all we want, but that hashtagging better be in action! Which means also that you better not charge up your Black History in March or later months, but left it lying lifeless in February. That’s a foul ball.

And of course in Black History Month 2019, there were several problems of turmoil: Jussie Smollett of Empire was allegedly attacked in Chicago all to do with some thugs wearing MAGA attire, but apparently, it was beginning to be a rumored attack. And his character on the show is not going to happen in the last three episodes in this matter. And yes also: R. Kelly turned himself in after all this time being in the Hot Seat of this Child Molestation charges that many dodged for so long. And also recently during the Michael Cohen testimonies, the 45 administration brought in Lynne Patton whom she feels that 45 is not a racist. Well, welcome to tokenism! Have a seat next to Candace Owens about what she said about Hitler being a nice guy. STOP IT! Hitler was not a cool dude so let’s not be so petty or tap dance like a fool. And speaking of that in stupidity: the issue of Blackface reared its ugly head. Don’t get me started!

So how do we end Black History Month of 2019? We should end by stating that we always should acknowledge our ancestors that brought us knowledge and wisdom to carry forward. It’s been 2 years since my father’s passing, but I’m holding to the torch. It’s a hard job to grasp but I’m trying. Also, we need to be thankful that a month like this that started with Dr. Carter G. Woodson in 1926 that got us talking about us. Keep in mind, NO ONE was talking about us! Until Dr. Woodson heard the Black Civil War Veterans talking in the coal mines in the South. And we also end the #BHM2019 Celebrations by the ongoing efforts to give our black kids a voice. A black voice to tell them that many might not acknowledge them of their talents and being black, but still, prove them WRONG! I want to acknowledge our young black kings and queens that your time is coming. Be ready and willing.

CALLOUT: And a lesson to all of us that Black History Month SHOULD NOT BE underestimated by anyone! Even if you’re black yourself!

Our proud historical events and ideas are still out in interests. And yet many of us have to begin new chapters to extend the stories. Black History Month 2019 may be already in the archives, but yet the summaries and extended plays still go on all the time. Or if you’re like yours truly: you can do BOTH by celebrate Black History Month and summarize Black History every time. No, it’s not a mistake. Keep it in the middle!

And that alone needs no permission!

#BLACKHISTORYMONTH4LIFE!
And yet, the struggle continues.

So here we are yet again.

Happy New Year!

Welcome to the blog story that is traditional. Let’s review of what I said last year with a twist:

Like Sgt. Hulka used to say in the movie Stripes: “before we proceed any further, we gotta get something straight.”

I’m going to be taking this blog to new heights. It’s not just going to be the same old song and dance. Nope, that is going to be one and done. It’s going to more than just one blog story. No matter if you are in America or in freaking India, be ready. This blog thing will one day, get real. If I got to get my Periscope, or own video thing on here to help my stories, well: that’s what I have to do one day. What does all this mean? It means that I have to get better with the idea of blogging with the issues and concerns. I have to. It’s not just that thing that needs to be done, it must be done to improve. To inspire and yes, to get to the point of view that I need to display.

Yes, folks will walk tall, shoulders back, chin up, conscious up to the 10th level, and of course, this is an idea that would be beneficial. I thought about destroying this blog and ending a 10+ year streak, all because of other concerns of boredom or that same story. But wait…..this could be a benefit to help and inspire. While many might think that one story from a blog is all there is, think again!

“Stephen’s Spot” is not just about one blog story. Or one picture. Or one anything. It can be revolutionary, inspirational, conscious, fun, life experienced, or just plain normal. It’s not a one dance show. It’s one in the million that can be experienced if many take the time to read more than one. Now, I know many are just now discovering the blog based on what I have written back in 2014 or whatever. But if you (yes you) the reader actually like what I write here, in a sense of right now, thank you.

Knowingly I can’t control what others might read, but by me writing more, and thinking more, it will be fully objectionable for me to carry on. I’m in the 40-year-old plus age bracket, and yes this age bracket will indeed test my theory and summarize.

So guess what: you want Stephen’s Spot? I’ll give you Stephen’s Spot! This is no same old song and dance. Nope, not here!

So for now: let’s start my New Year’s Tradition of Stephen’s Spot that doesn’t need a repeat: What do I want to see and not want to see in 2019! 19 things by the way.

It’s GO TIME!

First Five I want to see in THAT YEAR OF 2019:

Employment/Health & Wellness/Politics/Voting

1) It’s time to work, folks. If this is the year that you will get that real job, the time is now! No more wasting time by waiting on others. It won’t work. We need to have a “Career Awareness Month”. We need to have better job fairs, career expos, have a “seasonal vet” career fair for the mature folks. Not that watered down stuff that many are getting. Even if you still have that degree in the display, that many will pass up. We have to do EXTRA better.

2) If you got to get yourself checked, do it. You know where the doctors are. As well as the dentists, eye examination folks and more. Matter of fact some of them might be near you right now. And while we’re at it, we need to for real get educated about the issues of health. I hear say, “you need to do this or that”. or “you need a flu shot.” BEFORE ANY THAT HAPPENS: ASK QUESTIONS! Forget what you saw on Facebook, know that real stuff first! Really stop and ask definite questions!

3) 2019 also means that the Congress will take over with some new #45 laws being placed unfairly. If any of the new members screw up, get on their case! Don’t just complain on social media, complain to the So-and-sos! Write letters or emails with proper sentences! You can do that, you know. Oh, and if you approve of the work that some or many are doing to help this country and mainly in your districts, show some love! Volunteer or work on their staff, help in politics on their behalf. Be an Able Body Person to carry that out!

4) You should know that 2019 is a “mini” voting year? Oh, you didn’t know this? Pay attention! It’s not the Presidential election, but maybe some of your County Judges or Superintendents will up be running on the ballot. Do better!

5) Speaking of the voting thing, this would be a good time to get your voter registration checked and/or updated to get ready for the 2019-20 election years. I want to see this happen even more. Forget waiting until 2020! It’s best to do it NOW!

Next Five I don’t want to see:
Church/African-Americans/Credit Checks/Not Voting

6) Like last year, and the year before that and previous years: I don’t want to see NO ONE complaining about the lack of this or that in the church. If you don’t have a certain something going in your church, then make something happen! Keep at it! What did I say after my father’s passing in 2017: Be empowered, and Stay in the fight!

7) And like many many years ago: I don’t want to see black folks putting other black folks down for stupid pathetic reasons! No matter what happens we must continue to look in the mirror and raise up. Either for Jobs, Education (past or present) contributions, clubs/organizations etc. And that goes for anyone else. It doesn’t matter what you got with you. Either way, NO EXCUSES!

8) Never EVER OVERLOOK THIS: Black Queens: you say you LOVE us Black Kings right? DO YOU?! Here is a “whenever you get a chance” challenge that you might not think. Cater to us for ONE DAY at a restaurant, or maybe give us a day that we might enjoy. Think it over! Many of you got Brothers, Fathers, Uncles, Husbands, Boyfriends, Cousins, Neighbors, and many other male influences that you probably know that need that appreciation! Even Black Kings whom you overlook a lot, never thought about, or being Single and no relationships. You guys go all out for your thing and we’re in the seats. Why not us?

9) I HOPE TO GOD, I don’t want to see credit checks on black folks no more. Matter of fact, not on anyone anywhere with credit checks!

10) I don’t want to see those who didn’t vote to gloat. Guess what: Elections have Consequences. Period!

Five More things I want to see:

Alumni Associations/Results Doing Actual Work and Milestones/ Black Church Groups/Black Community/Fraternities and Sororities

11) I want to see more of us ALUMNI (YOUNG AND OLD) to reinvest in our Alumni Groups. Not just for the class reunions and everyone also shows up broke, mad, left out and uninformed. If you get pissed about not being informed about a class reunion or gathering, DO NOT GET MAD AT THE ALUMNI COMMITTEE! You need to be backing up your Alumni Contacts from your classmates, anyway. And if your Alumni Organizations messes up, get on their case!

12) I want to see the results of us “doing the work”. Not just the partial results of patting on the back and say “nice work”. But also what did it took to get the results needed. And if your employee is celebrating a milestone of service (10, 20, etc), give him or her the due of respect. It’s the right thing to do. Or even if no one gives you a pin of service: give yourself one!

13) I want us “non-scared and scared grown folks in the Black Church Groups” to talk to our youth. Seriously talk to them. Some of them need us to come to them. I don’t care if they are in the schools shooting basketballs or at the community centers or in church playing Chess or Madden. Or double dutching, or even learning a praise dance. Even tutoring and READING BOOKS! Let’s learn to #HashtagAndTalk to our young folks. Male members of the church: get the young men involved in these groups! Women, you know what it is.

14) I want to see more black folks in the communities who think there is nothing there to do, start something! Stop complaining! Stop moaning! Get up and get out and make the stuff happen! Such as Health stuff, job applications, resumes, networking, organizing a business venture. Able Body folks, if you’re still standing outside of a Walgreens or a Gas Station asking for money, and if you can still move around, get inside that building and ask for an application! Why is that so hard?

15) Like last year and year ago, here is a thought: I want to see ALL fraternities, and ALL sororities to “recruit and meet up” with seasoned vets that can help out. Especially those of the black fraternities and sororities. All of the Divine 9 folks: From the Alphas to the Iotas and from the AKA’s to the Sigma Gamma Rho’s: Have a day in which YOU need to go out to the seasoned vets of those who are 40-ish and up that want to join up to support the groups you represent. And also, don’t be so VERY judgmental about those who are at that 40’s range. The best place to find us: either at our church events, alumni group meetings, etc. And this goes for the American Legion Family, Masons, Elks, Eastern Stars, and etc. WE SEE YOU! You need to re-introduce yourselves!

Final four: I want not to see and want to see.
Black Lives Matter/Volunteerism/Grown After 18/If it doesn’t work…..

16) Of all the things I don’t want to see: enough of the blame game on Black Lives Matter that seemed violent or racist. For all you Blue Lives Matter or copying off the Black Lives Matter Movement, you will suck. Instead of hating on Black Lives Matter at least go to a meeting or hear from those who lost a brother, or sister or a parent that was black. Take notes, Blue Lives Matter. And don’t front!
MASSIVE NEW YEAR’S CALLOUT: And also white folks: enough calling the cops on black folks doing CIVILIZED stuff like campaigns, jobs, barbecues, community projects, volunteering or even waiting on a client, going into their apartment, swimming, selling lemonade, or to be SEATED AT A RESTAURANT OR AT STARBUCKS! Be advised and WARNED; if you work at a job, you will be fired for these stupid acts! And it takes a SMARTPHONE with video to get you TERMINATED!

17) Now, this probably might work in this 2019: Get grown in your own work and volunteerism. We know what we need to do, and what to do this year. So why not get involved? And the time is right now! Didn’t I say it’s time to work?

18) This is for the grown folks 18 and up: HANDLE your grown business! After all, we supposed to be grown after 18, right?

19) If any of the plans that don’t work, This should be seen and heard by EVERYONE: If there are things that might be difficult, stressful, unhealthy, not financially, and many others, Leave it alone! Find a Plan B, or what you know best and stick to that! Keywords: PLAN B!

Happy New Year!!

Oh you know I’m about to go in. 2018 had me crazy! It had me on point, it had me on rotation, and it had me bugged out. But at the end of me asking these crazy questions we might understand it better. But…since this is the last Scratching my Head all this time of the year, but it’s not the last! So as we countdown to the last ticks of 2018, and we prepare for our Watch Night Services, All Night parties, and family gathering to usher in 2019, and yes to get our resolutions out of what we want to do in all: you’ve guessed it, I’m scratching my head YET AGAIN!

Alright, who remembers any of my blog posts from 10 years ago?

Did anyone really pay attention to the fact that the 45 Administration is getting punked with all the Government Shutdowns in all?

What’s up with the Bird Box?

How will the Governor-Elect Tony Evers Crew really will tame the still Republican Legislature in the first term?

Why is White Supremacy still a maximum problem? Even if it’s a problem among black people in 2018?

If you smelled like Marijuana all through 2018, and you’re in the store or were in a store, did you remember to wash up before leaving the house?

For all those hated Introverts, especially BLACK Introverts, why you picked on them? Like seriously.

Will anymore Black Pastors meet with 45 in 2019 that embarrassed themselves in 2018?

So, Mutant Football League on the Nintendo Switch is making a good impression. What will it actually take for EA to get a Madden game on the system?

Most recently, I’ve seen black authors publish their books on Amazon about their Introvert experience in 2018. I need to see more. Can that happen?

Was Diablo III for the Nintendo Switch really good?

Oh, this needs to be asked, Wolfenstein II was HOT in 2018. Will it be a sequel for the Nintendo Switch?

Was not getting the flu shot that worst in 2018?!

Black Milwaukee, what was better in 2018: WNOV 860AM between 9am-12pm or 1510AM WRRD between 9am-12pm?

So now the WWE will be getting the Women’s Tag Team Belts in 2019. But…………….what about a title that is a mid-carder for the women’s squad? For Raw, Smackdown, and NXT?

Black folks, why are we still saying the N-Word?

In 2018: who got promoted?

In 2018: who actually voted? Not just one time during the midterm election!

In 2018: Did many actually went to the doctor?

In 2018: level with me, how many times that many of you DID NOT support your Alumni groups?

In 2018: Who did the most work in your community?

In 2018: Who did no work in the community? They need to be called out.

In 2018: Who was the “Dark Horse” in your family, church, organizations, etc?

The American Legion will be 100 years old in 2019, right? I want to know how many African-Americans will join up and also, how many Sons of Black Veterans will join the Sons of the American Legion? Even Black Daughters the same with the Auxillary?

How many liked Black Lightning this year?

In Milwaukee, many of us have seen the sample of Light the Hoan. Who made a donation in 2018?

Black Methodists in Wisconsin, guess what? BMCR made a comeback this year. What did you think?

United Methodist Men in Wisconsin, there is a metro men’s group in town looking for “Men at Work”. Have you checked out any the meetings this year? If so, what did you think?

Who was this Jacquees dude, and why is claiming to be the King of R&B? Like in 2018?!

So I have heard that some of the GM cars might be on the chopping block in the year ahead, Which of those cars will be less to buy in the future?

Was it really a downer that Luke Cage was canceled on Netflix?

I need to ask also, who missed Scandal?

With all the retirees retired this year, who is next to go in 2019?

Many of us watched the Pinstripe Bowl when the Badgers beat Miami. A good game of course. So many questions like where were this Badgers team all year?!

Who actually “migrated” out if Milwaukee that moved to Atlanta or Texas just to get away from the racism but only to realize that racism is everywhere?

Was it really necessary that 45 pulled the troops out of Syria?

If you hated Church folks so much in 2018, why keep talking about it?!

If many did this in 2018: Resumes. Did many kill it for job interviews?

Can someone explain the bad connection between buying Christmas gifts and Tax Time?

In all of the 1,000 posts so far, what wasn’t mentioned?

In all of the 1,000 posts what was learned from you?

In all of the 1,000 posts did anyone ever to follow what else I had to say?

Which Wisconsin teams surprised many in 2018? Brewers or Bucks?

Of all the folks who passed away this year, who was the main person that didn’t receive much recognition?

Of all the folks who were honored this year for their hard work, who didn’t get any recognition after their hard work?

Anyone lost their job unfairly in 2018?

Who was EMBARRASSED HARSHLY in 2018 that will not go away? And will it take to heal?

And this is the last question before the ball drops and clocks out for 2018: What will you carry into 2019 that you learned in 2018? And also, what will you NOT take into 2019 that you went through hellfire and brimstone in 2018?

Now: let’s go party.

Happy New Year!

Milwaukee Police Department goes after Reckless Drivers in the Hot Spot Zones of the city. Just like last year.

For the Green Bay Packers: Not so much this year. Despite a 6-9-1 record on the standings, the organization surpassed 100 Seasons in the NFL. Jimmy Graham was traded to the Packers from New Orleans. Davante Adams became a new force in the wide receiver angle for the team. Blake Martinez, Kyle Fackrell stepped up the defensive side of the team, and Aaron Rodgers signed a 100,000.000 contract for the next couple of years to keep him in the green and gold until he turns 40. And the final analysis of my point of view: I must say that as a blogger in my own right, the creative side of this writing continues to thrive my ability to communicate. The fact of the matter is, my style is very much in its zone by itself. When the announcement came to me on Thanksgiving after I written the “Be Thankful” surpassing 1,000 posts that were like……where was this going? I am now extra motivated to do this even more.

If you the audience no matter where you’re from and if you checked out this blog beforehand or just now tuning in, thank you. Yes, this blog site has reached 1,000 plus posts and over 25,000 hits. But likewise, there is so much to discuss. Ideas like health, finance, employment, my city of Milwaukee, religion, social media and other avenues to explore. Even as a black man in America, I must write my stories.

Knowing that yes, writing 1,000 plus posts was and is, definitely hard work! It’s not easy at times, but when it’s on your mind to know and summarize of what’s going on in your community, that is when you get your mind jogging and get to work.

1,000 posts are good. But the best is still YET to come!

Happy New Year!

Onward to 2019.

Well as we know, the 2018 season of the Milwaukee Brewers has ended. As you’re reading this they didn’t beat the LA Dodgers but they beat them 4 games to 3 in a Best of 7 for the NL Pennant. Flaws were a concern, as well as positives. Plainly speaking the season wasn’t a total embarrassment. However that speaking, the team like 2011 had a “Strange Brew of Confidence” of actually making a name for themselves and for the city. So with that, I present to the squad this blog letter.

Dear Milwaukee Brewers:

It’s me, Stephen. And I’m potentially observing you.

Call this: “Strange Brew of Confidence, part II.”

First, let me say as a “Fan Observer in training” and I can cosign with the rest of the Brewer Nation these two words: Thank You. Thank you for all the highlights and best moments that you ground all this time and getting this far. Thanks for that!

SSP_MillerPark_MilwaukeeBrewersPostSeason_2018

I for one kind of got in late. Forgive me on this. Yes, I’ve been observing. The reason why I observe the squad because I think I wanted to see how the season would go. No, I’m not a die hard, and by the way, Die-Hard Fans GO HARD! They stay loyal every day like The Pack Daddy on Packer Sunday Football Games! Yes, the idealistic was captured and was presented to us in a “Brewer Fashion”.

Oh yes, the season was fun. Fun seeing Eric Thames being that home run guy that everyone wanted to see. Or the rise of Christian Yelich as a player in the making. Or Jesus Aguliar making nods on camera after smashing homers. The rise was coming.

On the flipside was this ongoing saga of Josh Hader and the discovery of racist tweets discovered after the All-Star Game. In which we were all puzzled about the standing ovation after the discovery. And let this be known that yes, Josh Hader WAS WRONG! And yes many of us, or should I say Baseball Fans also had to ask, is it wrong to support Josh Hader after what he said, in the VERY SAME WEEK that Hulk Hogan was reinstated into the Hall of Fame status of the WWE after what he said years ago of someone non-white who would date his daughter? This remains to be a hot button topic, but there is no denying his pitching ability for strikeouts.

Speaking of that: Jeremy Jeffress. I’ve been studying him. However, he needs to concentrate on his game in executing the finish! Gotta work on him. Just needs to be sharp with the strikeouts!

Also since we are thinking this, I’m going to say it. Eric Thames must come back. Now we all know that he had an injury that kept him out most of the games. However, I think that if he were playing against Dodgers in the NLCS in all of the game series, in my estimation: the Brewers (NOT THE DODGERS) would be in the World Series facing the Red Sox right now. Just my thing to say. But the same October 20th date in which the Crew was eliminated, is the same date that the 1982 Wallbangers lost Game 7 to the St. Louis Cardinals. And I was 5 years old then. But anyway, I think what I said had nothing to do with Eric in all, but just to think if he were playing though, the Brew Crew would be World Series Bound. I’m just saying in my view.

Other than that, after the stunt of Manny Machado did on Jesus Aguliar, I’m glad that the Brewers did not get him! I’ll be not surprised if Boston beats him. On the flip switch in all, the rise of Jesus will indeed continue. He has to be sharp! Others like Ryan Braun who has been on the squad for a while is still getting his reps. Now I need to comment about Christian Yelich. He’s a good player. Had that cycle going in all. He’s really good. But I want Christian to be better than he was this year. And the others like Eric Kratz, Mike Moustakas, Lorenzo Cain, Orlando Arcia, Manny Pina, Brandon Woodruff, Corey Knebel, Travis Shaw, Corbin Burnes, and a host of others are all good, but still NEED TO BE MORE SHARP if making a run to the postseason for 2019, while staying on top the NL Central.

SSP_DefendMKE_MilwaukeeBrewersPostSeason_2018

Finally, I need to comment on these words: DefendMKE. Actually, I really like the concept of it. I say save that #DefendMKE for next year and beyond. I don’t want it to be just for the Brewers game only. I want that to be a way of life. EVERYDAY! Because every day, there is always the negative about the city that we know. Crime. Segregation. Racism. Not enough jobs. You know it. It’s not just the job of the Brewers to “DefendMKE”, it’s the job of EVERY citizen who works, plays, volunteers, contributes, and mainly has to do the honorable thing by really standing up for the city no matter what. We know it’s a hard, medium-sized climate here. And it’s on the rise in some areas. But the ideal about Defending Wisconsin’s largest city may be controversial for some (who may have moved out) but the fact of the remaining citizens here, we need to really defend this town in a new way to prove that we have to deal with right now. So I say this: EVERY Milwaukeean (and Milwaukeeans at heart) should properly adopt #DefendMKE in a way that needs to be done.  Maybe change it up like #DefendMilwaukeeNow or #DefendBrewCity or, I don’t know. As long it’s cool with Major League Baseball.

On the Stephen’s Spot Twitter page and as well as the Stephen’s Spot Facebook Page, I made the references at the Brewers as a Dark Horse team. I kept saying “Dark Horses” a lot for a reason.  And I’m like….that’s them. They are the Dark Horses into the Postseason. No one I think never saw them coming and expecting them to be in the race this far. No one. I didn’t see it coming. But then again, they earned the right to be Dark Horses. And also in the ongoing hashtagging of #ThisCrewThisOctober #TakeBackTheNLCentral #TakeTheNLCS in all, it was just about hyping up the Crew for the postseason. Hey, this was the hometown Brewers here.

Oh did I mention that there were other “Brewer Fever” things like this we know that was floating around?

Or this one in which a local Milwaukee Rap Group made a song about Christian Yelich:

Or this sign outside of City Hall?

SSP_MilwaukeeCityHall_MilwaukeeBrewersPostSeason_2018

Or the question which logo was the best? – We know it’s the long loving Ball and Glove shaped like the MB.

And yes, our Milwaukee County Transit thing was on point:

SSP_MilwaukeeCountyTransitBus_MilwaukeeBrewersPostSeason_2018

In conclusion: 2018 Milwaukee Brewers Organization in all, you’ve had a good season. Many of us who are not baseball fans had probably missed out. But if given the energy and opportunity for next season, get the doors open. Let us see what we need to do in order to get this interesting. Let us see what is needed and interested for us. After all, it’s been 48 years since the debut. It’s been 61 years since Milwaukee had a World Series Championship. And yes it’s been a long minute that this team, this Brewers Company can break out of the funk of being a “lovable team” into a “powerhouse of opportunity” to get a championship. NL, maybe. A World Series? Still on the radar.

Brewers, your championship is coming.

Sincerely,

Stephen

P.S. – Still remain a Dark Horse!

I want to address all the students of MPS. And no, the adults do not count in this one. I want to address this with you because of what was said about you that made you upset. It’s a matter of stating that what James Widgerson calling you collectively “little convicts” was very disturbing. He is an indeed a racist calling you that. So with that, here is a blog letter for you.

Dear students of MPS:

It’s me, Stephen. And I am an Alum of the Milwaukee Public Schools.

In the last couple of days, and weeks you have been in the classrooms and I must say I wish your semester well. But in the last day and a half, you have been attacked by a grown man who labeled you as “little convicts” over the performance that continues to give the district of MPS a bad name. And the man that said it was a former students way older than you and I put together. The man, James Wigderson as I speak of was way out of line labeling you as failures being set up for the jail system. We knew what he said in his blog story. And what he said to the majority of you was again clearly stupid. It’s not your fault. And by the way, he’s an alum of MPS.

One of the Milwaukee Youth Council members had really to speak out on this matter and I must applaud the young lady, Emoni Gambrell-Toliver a student from Riverside University High School and President of the Youth Council for a chance to do that. If you have not read her statement regarding this matter, it’s a must read! Even if you are a critic of MPS.

I really hope that the build-up from all of this will decrease and also the value of our education in Milwaukee continue to rise up and prove those that it can be viable just like the outline areas outside of Milwaukee.

But we all know that today, James Wigderson was not apologizing for his remarks in the blog. He also stated that his words as a whole were not directed towards the entire students of MPS. It was about this one player, that went to Washington High School. I have to say that it was not factual. He knew what he was talking about. But just don’t want to deny that part of the truth of hating on all of you that WANT to make a difference in the world. Yes, I will agree he was hateful. He also claims that he backed school choice and charter schools and such. But he was not solid on you in general! For an extra commentary, he’s a coward. And even though his last days of education was at Vincent High School, I want to be clear that he has some soul searching in discovering that what he thought he saw was not just a concern, but to also ask what can be done to change it! I hate to say that there are those in the Alumni are real losers. Jealous that the opportunities you’re getting many of us didn’t get. And James is included in this also. He’s a loser! A racist vile hypocritical loser! And he does not care about you.

In the schools, we know there are things are not sharp enough. And I know that we see and read about the negative about MPS. But the thing is, what is missing from all this is positive! We need to read and see about your positive stories of what is going on into the schools. We need to read and see what you’re up to in a positive manner about what is up in the schools. Show us the receipts, as many of you would say! Show them to us at an Open House, a Concert, a Play, or even yes the football field or basketball court. For academics, I know that math, reading, and science are one of the subjects at hand, but show us what you’ve learned! Prove it to yourselves and us that you can do this!

MPS Students, you are indeed the future of our district. Future Alumni, Future Scholars, and future whatever it is that you want to be. Let us know what is happening in your schools. Your Games, Band and Orchestra, Debates, Communications, Mechanical Classes, and many others that you’re doing. Many of us alumni folks are so busy raising families and working to get very busy. We do. And we assumed what is taking place at the schools now is mostly negative. We want you: and I’m giving you an ongoing homework assignment here. I want you to tell us grown people that been there and done it, really tell us what is really going on in the schools. Tell us and show us your open house projects, your performances in concerts in all. Tell us how we the MPS Alumni can still support your schools! Tell us! We need to do this thing!

Before I leave you this message, I want to share this video clip from 1989:

This is from the movie called Lean on Me, which told the story of a high school in New Jersey that was once a prominent best school in the state was going poorly. But the principal played by Morgan Freeman had to do whatever necessary to get the school in the positive form. Morgan Freeman’s character was Joe Clark. And he had to lock down the school, dismiss the bad students that disrupted the school for a lot of years. Mainly drug dealers. He even challenged the students to reach their potential even if he had to make them sing the school song. This movie is based on a true story of a huge turnaround that captured the state of New Jersey. The reason why I put this clip here because Freeman’s Character Joe Clark was describing to the students what the rest of the world or the society thinks about them that want to succeed. Sound familiar?

I encourage all of you, who are high school students to get this movie. If not, ask your parents to get this movie for you and watch it over and over again. Don’t just watch the clips on youtube, watch the WHOLE movie! But I must warn you, it’s a bit graphic, mixed with overtones that might not be suitable for many. BUT GET THIS MOVIE! The prime example of this movie is the same example of this situation right now with MPS.

And also: gain from the “woke” moments of the movie that really stood out. Study them!

Finally, as I close, continue to do the things you do in the schools. Make it happen! EVERYDAY!

Sincerely,

Stephen

I had to take a break about several segments for a moment to talk to us.

Us as the Alumni of the Milwaukee Public Schools.

Like many, we prided ourselves in response to our Alma Maters in terms of reliving the good days of what we had back then, and of course, we talk about those Class Reunions. That’s what we do. A little of us give back to our Alma Maters in terms of fundraising, sitting in on board meetings discussing important matters, and also a few of us asking about the current status of our old schools. But there are those who are just mad. Really mad about the status being so low in the categories and making a statement about shutting down a school that they once attended years ago, and having a mean streak about calling the current students “little convicts” over a thought of making a new stadium on High School property.

Henceforth: the argument has reached the foot of the Milwaukee Public Schools and also a former MPS Student, James Wigderson an alum of Milwaukee’s Vincent High School fired on his Alma Mater in which got the district and social media’s attention of his rant. James has written a blog article on the Right Wisconsin Website about his “disdain” of the status of his story and of course had to bring in the racist cyberbullying remarks about his commentary.

James writes via the Right Wisconsin Website on all days: September 5th, 2018:

The school has only gotten worse since my days there. The school “fails to meet expectations” according to the state of Wisconsin’s Department of Public Instruction and it’s not even close. Yet nothing will be done about Vincent and 999 kids will be trapped in a failing school this year. Some students will succeed but the odds are horribly against them. But at least it’s a union school, right?

So imagine my surprise when, thanks to the Facebook page for an upcoming high school reunion, I learned the school is getting a new $5.7 million stadium. The stadium will have artificial grass and a new track for WIAA events. The report I saw didn’t mention metal detectors, but it would be a good idea.

The new stadium is part of an $11 million improvement in athletic facilities for Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS), presumably so the little convicts can have the best facilities before being sent to the penitentiary.

So the next time someone tells you that MPS needs more money, remind them that more money does not mean a better academic performance. And if they ask for evidence, ask them if $5.7 million could be better spent than on a new stadium for a failing school. And then ask them if the students would be better off with a new track instead of shutting the school down entirely.

At least the artificial turf matches the artificial concern of Wisconsin’s Democrats, including gubernatorial candidate Tony Evers, for the well-being of MPS students. Perhaps the new scoreboard can flash the number of kids being pushed through the system without learning anything – not that any of the students will be able to read it.

Well wasn’t that redundant and stupid. This is supposed to be #MPSProud? Really?

In response, Milwaukee Public Schools offered this comment on the blatant article:

We are proud that MPS is working hard to provide the same access to state-of-the-art facilities for our students as districts in surrounding areas have for theirs. We are proud of the Class of 2018, which earned $86.2 million in scholarships, a new district record. We are proud of our students serving as interns for Harley-Davidson, America’s iconic motorcycle company. We are also proud of our Vincent High School urban agriculture students who were the only students to represent Milwaukee at the Wisconsin State Fair.

MPS is outraged – as every parent in the City of Milwaukee should be – that an adult would feel free to make such a derogatory, hurtful, and dishonest statement about more than 75,000 children.

The author of the article should be ashamed that he is engaging in such offensive cyberbullying, which we are sure he would not tolerate if his children were being discussed in these abusive terms.

We have far too many students who work hard every day and who accomplish great things to let an ill-informed and hateful statement stand without comment. We are MPS proud.

Director, Communications & Marketing

OK. Now it’s time for my response: and if a certain right-wing blogger like James is reading this, I have a question for him or her: WHERE WERE YOU?!

You know what, it’s just like any other person who had all the good times of education, there always just that ONE person that has to be so negative about a certain problem, BUT OFFERS NO SOLUTIONS to defuse the problem! James, I know that many of the Vincent High School Alum, as well as the MPS Alumni faithful, does not think like you. You and others that sit out in the freaking suburbs and outline areas with a negative attitude talking smack are just that: Hypocritical Blatant Racists! Yeah, I said it. It’s guys like you that are offering NO SOLUTIONS in helping out MPS. And it’s guys like you that are not lifting a finger or a donation to help out the high school that you once attended. Yeah, of course, you called out your old stomping grounds but the fact of the matter is, you didn’t come out; and remained to be a self-centered bigot in calling the young kids “little convicts” all because of your opinion of the upgrades of Vincent High School.

Maybe if you had the balls, you actually would be able to help mentor the young folks at Vincent to be more productive while they are still high school students and then they might morph into that when reaching adulthood. BUT NO, you had to go negative about a bunch of students that don’t know you. Oh, I’ve heard that they don’t forget stuff like this. As you age James, I hope they don’t take away your Medicare or your Social Security because when they get older, mark my words: they will never forget! And second, when was the last time you visited the School? When was the last time you sat in a public meeting at the school? When was the last time you listened to the Alumni Association about the ideas to support the school? Oh, I’m sorry Vincent does have an Alumni Committee, duh! When was the last time James that you ACTUALLY CARED about your Alma Mater of giving back?!! When?! Don’t worry, I’ll wait.

You’re just like the rest who get mad about being left out of Class Reunions, had to vent your personal feelings and actually attack those who don’t know you. And also you’re just like those who complain about the Fiserv. Forum, and the Milwaukee Streetcar. Sorry James: it’s not all about you! And since you want to give a care: why attack Vincent? And just for the record, I’m not a Vincent Alum. Never went there. Didn’t cheer for your beloved Vikings. But I know some Vincent Viking Alums that are doing way better than you! And I know MANY MPS ALUMNI MEMBERS that are doing WAY BETTER than your own bigoted mess on a right winged blog. And if you think that for one split second is going to get you famous: wrong dude. It just made you realize that you just messed up. And by the way, the kids are watching. Speaking of that, the Milwaukee Youth Council just called you out! And many of them are MPS Students!

Wanna be a bigger man? Apologize to MPS. Apologize to the school, the students, staff, parents, and ALUMNI of your Vincent High School. Even the MPS Alumni Groups. But I doubt you won’t even try. And that goes for anyone else that thinks they are in agreement of this matter.

MAJOR CALLOUT: If you honestly feel this way in a racist manner, keep your butt at home! Don’t come to the reunions. Don’t donate to the cause. Don’t mentor or make internships. Tear off your Alma Mater colors and just resign and QUIT!

End of rant.
