Juneteenth Day Matters!

Today is a legit day to celebrate an occasion that actually mattered. No, it’s not the 4th of July as we know very well. We’re talking about Juneteenth Day. A day that many don’t know about but to quote Kevin Hart: “You gon’ learn today!” For the 155th time, America is recognizing a forgotten Independence Day that almost had right previously in the late 1770’s. Yes we all know that originally, Independence Day was started in 1776 in which that yes and many will hear that black people were still slaves. They were in bondage. No rights. Yes, Master. No Master. We know. Frankly, there was a lot of that and a few black patriots at the time fought in the Revolution, attempted to seek their freedom and most went back into slavery. However, it seems that 4th of July was the mainstay of celebrating the Independence of America. Again, you will know this next month. But again, this day of the 19th is a CLOSER! Think of this: July 4th is the opening pitch to freedom. An opening pitch to eliminate tyranny, oppression, and persecution. Even though it should have been stopped in that particular year, many in the country who benefited and owned slaves actually didn’t want that to end. Yes, let’s call it what it was, slavery and commodity equals money. Even though the British rule was already divorced, but the inner struggle of slavery was a long shot to be eliminated. It took 89 years which in baseball is about 16,198 games. But on the first to last game, which was January 1st, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation to decide that black slaves would be declared free. 2 years later in 1865, after the assassination of Lincoln, the news to Galveston, Texas from General Grainger that the slaves would be now and forever free. This was known as “General Order Number 3.” This is why I say Juneteenth is the CLOSER, or the closing pitch that ended the dreaded streak. That ended the game that many fought for so long to eliminate. This is why I also say that “Juneteenth Day Matters Like The 4th!”

For many of you who are not black, and just wanting to know what this is, and we know many of you will be going all decked out Red, White, and Blue next month. Get this: if you know the 4th, get to know what Juneteenth Day is about. Get to know why this day matters. And many of you are in education, working for the curriculum. I challenge you to put Juneteenth Day further ON THE MAP! I challenge all of those who are black educators: put this day of June 19th ON THE MAP for the curriculum. It is necessary because this is part of the historical events that Americans need to know and summarize. After all, do many people still say that “Black history is American History?” Remember that quote that I hated since Black History Month? Yeah well, since Juneteenth Day is an American Occasion, why not add this to the American History that folks again, need to know! And Black History is STILL World History!

Unlike many Juneteenth Day Celebrations in the country, there were not many marches. And social distancing was in effect due to the coronavirus. In spite of that, Juneteenth Day went on regardless. There were marches, shutting the streets down, murals were and are still being painted on to streets that were declared “sacred ground.” Speeches were made to declare slavery was dead but the struggle goes on. Even after the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Aubrey, Breonna Taylor and countless others that died in the hands of the police. And yet, the Juneteenth Day flags were raised in cities that were used for the first time. EVER. Milwaukee, my homecity that has celebrated Juneteenth longer in the north, raised the new flag outside of the Zeidler Municipal Building. This is the same building named after one of Milwaukee’s Mayors, and a centralplex for the April Voting Drives. Not only that , but Madison also held its Juneteenth Day Flag raising on the State Capitol signifying the 155th occasion. And also, our Milwaukee County Courthouse also raised the new Juneteenth Banner for the special day. All areas of Milwaukee and Madison had the historical moments documented and summarized!

Now let me go left field on these non-black companies and advertisers that are now just discovering Juneteenth Day. Even the Networks like ABC, CBS, Fox, and NBC are now just discovering this soon-to-be Independence Day. And our so-called president claimed to “made Juneteenth famous”. Let’s cut the Bull….right now:

First of all: Juneteenth Day was made famous by those who were set free from slavery.

Juneteenth Day was made famous who later marched and protested who were mostly black and fought for Civil Rights that we read about over and over again and making sure that the stories still remain in tact for another era of citizens.

Juneteenth Day was made famous by many who still recognize our concerns, our voices, and our black god-given rights to remain active and ALIVE to let those know that our black rights, and lives still matter! Even at a time when many black men are not as active as black women when it comes to concerns in the community. Even though the black men of TODAY are not as active as the forefathers, but they are out there. And they are active and educating the men of now. Of course, the men of now will do their own thing in the future but guidance must be placed on the table!

If many of the folks who are just now discovering Juneteenth, where have they been?! Black folks have been talking about this for YEARS! This is why the white folks and those who work in non-black establishments must listen to every single black citizen either at work or the house. Not just say, “here you go…………” NO! the key words are to “listen to the black folks!” Let us continue to have our turn to say what we want and need to say. Regardless of our stance on employment, health, finance, spiritual, mental, educational physical and countless others that we discuss that we may agree and disagree, but hear us out! If we don’t see a chair at your table, we have chairs at home to bring. Long ago, we didn’t have those rights as we do now. And that struggle has been going on since the start of loading the boats!

And to have our so-called president to have his “rally” on Juneteenth in a town like Tulsa, Oklahoma that had a history of Black Wall Street being destroyed by racist whites in 1921, was a slap in the face. 99 years this month. Although it was moved to June 20th, which is the first day of the summer solstice. Wow. However even though it’s a different time and a different era, but the struggle again still continues.

So yes, Juneteenth Day 2020 is in the books. However, in the recent “support” of Juneteenth must continue to go on. Like those sales of oil changes to get $17.76 off. Where are the $18.65 discounts? Where are those that need to surface? Yes, I know as a black man that Juneteenth Day MUST be carefully guarded not to be fumbled with a commercialized sense of being jaded. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, look at all those sales that are geared towards holidays: New Years, Valentines, Easter, St. Patrick’s Day, Memorial Day, the 4th, Labor Day, Halloween, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and yes Christmas. I’m not saying Juneteenth Day should be marketable. But being careful HOW Juneteenth Day should be marketed that it shouldn’t be sold in a negative sense. That is the main point of all of this. Same as Target marketing Black History Month. Which it has. But I hope that those that market Black History or Juneteenth Day should donate some of those sales to most needed black-owned businesses, and especially to the schools. I’ll give four letters: HBCU. That’s the Historical Black Colleges and Universities. Don’t just donate to the causes on these occasions, do them ALL YEAR LONG! And I hope that since the companies are “supporting black workers” and donating all the causes, for all of you big companies from Facebook to U.S. Bank, Harley-Davidson, John Deere, Tesla, Taco Bell (yeah I’m putting them on the list after firing the worker who had on a Black Lives Matter Mask) Best Buy, Walmart, news media, technological companies, health organizations, employment agencies, the federal government, state government, city government, county government and anywhere that they claim or stake their claim in the support of black workers: I got four words for you: step your game up! Prove to many that you back up your African-American employees. No matter what their positions are. Why you ask? simply put, their black lives DO matter. And they should matter just like everyone else.

So yes, we made it to another year of Juneteenth. And its very legit like the 4th. But after this day is over: The struggle continues!

Warning: what I am about write is not for the thinking at heart. I’m going there.

“A Riot is the language of the unheard”.

These last few days since Memorial Day, most of us Americans have had reality hit in the face. It’s all due to those getting assaulting and after the killing of 46 year old, George Floyd. A black man if you will. Now for those who are not so squeamish, you already know over and over again about the Police Officer putting his knee on the back of the neck of George Floyd and he is face down handcuffed. Can’t Breathe. Or in his lasting words: “I Can’t Breathe!” That sounded VERY FAMILIAR out of Staten Island when Eric Garner was killed. Yes I’m saying killed! All because of suspicion and yet I’ll say this: BLACK. Let’s call it what it was and is: those dudes were killed and targeted because of their black skin tone! If anyone of us African-Americans living and breathing knows the feeling of being “hunted” by those who don’t like us that much, we’ll be on someone’s hit list to get buried. Nothing to do with the jobs, the house, the cars or any other earning thing. But nothing that matters. It’s all about ONE THING! And that one thing is being black. I wrote on my Facebook page the words that many hear too often.

And I heard this in the late 1990’s and I’m saying this now in 2020: It’s hard to be a Black Man in America!

I’ve been saying that then and now. Even in a year that many of us were hoping to see in our lifetime to say, we made it. But like any other year, any other decade, there will be dark times to go through. What has transpired in Minneapolis is no different of what happened here in Milwaukee 4 years ago when a Milwaukee Police Officer killed Sylville Smith, and the area of Sherman Park of the Gas Station, a Red Snapper Fish Restaurant and nearby, the former building that housed BMO Harris Bank were engulfed in flames! Even a freaking Jet Beauty Store, a O’Reilly’s Auto Parts store and other shops along the 35th St, Fond Du Lac and Sherman Boulevard areas. And yet, Milwaukee remains a segregated city. And this was in the last election year of 2016. Previously, we Milwaukeeans had to deal with deaths of Dontre Hamilton, Corey Stingley, Jay Anderson, and Derek Williams, whom like George Floyd and Eric Garner had uttered the words, “I Can’t Breathe” before he died in police custody.

Here we are in another election year of 2020 and we still have problems. The problems of Racism, White Supremacy, 45 acting a da*n fool on Twitter saying that the thugs will be shot, and oh, Blue Lives Matter is acting as a fraud! Blue Lives Matter couldn’t save a BURNING POLICE STATION! Blue Lives Matter can’t even save Target, Best Buy, Cub Foods, 3M or any other Minnesota related firm or company! All those stores and companies I mentioned, they are all from the state. For all you Blue Lives Matter Maniacs out there backing up Cops with your Thin Blue Line Flags, Attire, and other forms of support, where is your loyalty now?! Huh? Where is it now?! You got a white cop in freaking Minnesota that laid his knee on the back of a Black Man’s neck face down and dies in about 9 minutes! And you have another cop just stood there and did nothing! And two others were just as doing the job in a guilt manner. Deer caught in the headlights. Remember when Colin Kaepernick was doing the kneeling, and many of the overly patriotic folks got all upset because it was about him dissing the Flag, the Anthem, and the Military? But when he said that it was about Police Brutality? Come to think that his act led to the truth. Somebody must be saying the words, “I Told You So”. Matter of fact it was the truth that justify the means.

Speaking of us blacks being “hunted” we need to be part of another group besides the NAAGA Gun Group. We need to be our own response team. When I was looking at those idiot protesters that hounded against Gov. Tony Evers’ Safer At Home Order, some of them had on these shirts that had these words: “Tyranny Response Team”. I’m like, who is doing the tyranny? Those idiots were protesting in those shirts were just silly and fake!

But if anyone really deserves to be apart of the “Tyranny Response Team” is an obvious one: African Americans. It makes sense because if anyone knows more about being Tyrannized, Oppressed, Persecuted, and many other inhumane acts of concern like Slavery, it’s US! US as in BLACK PEOPLE! None of the folks we know don’t have a shirt like that to wear. But dress it up in a Red Black Green and make it our own. Others I would say would be Native Americans. Excuse me for saying in a more appropriate way of American Indian. Knowingly they too sufferer being tyrannized, persecuted, and having their land STOLEN by those we know that claim it’s theirs. So for all you white folks who like to be all Americanized, when you put on that “Tyranny Response Team” clothing, you are acting like idiots for an inappropriate racial cause.

When a Black Man dies in a act of racism/police brutality, many of you said nothing and did nothing like cowards! Hiding behind the keyboards. Let’s be honest, many of you probably have black friends. When was the last time in this hour of need per se that you called, emailed, texted, social media DM, Video Called or Messaged your black friend or family member that is married inter-racially to see if they are doing well? Out of danger, Out of harm? Black folks we know us! And keep in mind, were still in a pandemic like the Coronavirus! This is the OT version, not the warning level.

Just now as of today: And I know that many of you are looking at the protests. Not just in Minneapolis, but in Atlanta, New York, Los Angeles, Denver, Louisville, Staten Island, DC, Chicago, Pittsburgh, and yes Milwaukee. All of the cities even those across the globe like London, Brussels, Berlin, Tokyo, Iran, Paris, and even Hong Kong, were in fact protesting the cause. And it’s not a joke. There are folks EVERYWHERE that are protesting this cause after a man that many didn’t know about. Even though George Floyd is not well known, the fact remains that certain policing practicing that is unfairly just must be called out. Minneapolis’ Police Department is being called out after many realize that they had negative ratings or work points that 44% of the African-American Residents of the State were effected by this unfairly. And like Wisconsin as well as any other state dealing with race, Minnesota from what we now have learned, is no comparison of the unfair police practices are being summarized. In other words, the land of 10,000 lakes and the home of Prince has problems too. And yes, its bigger than the Vikings not SKOLing in the NFL.

So what is needed after this that White America needs to start listening to black folks. White America whom are so “gung ho” about being an American, standing up for the flag, get all patriotic, telling us black folks to “get over Slavery”, and pulling yourself by the bootstraps, that has NOTHING TO DO WITH Blacks in general! What they need to do is to hush up, and be quiet. Let us have our say! We were born in this country too! And of course, they have black friends. But their black friends need to speak the hell up and tell them to listen to the concerns and what is needed to say. Remember I used to blog years ago about the same folks you work with or hang out at the games, or get a beer after work, then they fellowship for a good time? And are they like that when they go home to be with their families? Ask that if you dare.

So depending of this, it has garnered attention. But the fact of the matter is this needs to be addressed more openly when the issue of white cops, black victims or cops and black folks need to have a level of understanding. I’ll bet you when looking at the protesters may of them wanted to let the cops and military know that they are not about disruptions. They wanted to them to listen of what is really going on regarding white supremacy, racism, fascism, discrimination and many other harboring things that black folks know VERY VERY WELL! And those whom perpetrate the groups are just wannabes. All they care about is trouble and don’t really call for the cause of Black Lives Matter or any other anti-racist group. They don’t! Do not ASSUME that they associate with the Peaceful Protesters. The protester groups need to weed out the wicked like in Church.

Already, George Floyd is being remembered. From Minnesota, to North Carolina and soon to be his home state of Texas. Leaving behind his family especially his six year old daughter, his son, and a host of brothers, sisters, parent, and many other folks that are survivors. Look, George Floyd was 46 years old! He was apart of my generation that many looked upon as slackers. Yes I’m talking about Generation X. He had a good life, kept up with his faith, business, family-life, etc. But we all know that the Golden Casket we saw at his memorial service was the lasting thing of him. Many stood in silence for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. Those numbers are familiar. Reference 9/11. But we’re not talking 9/11 in general, however we’re talking the last 8 minutes and 46 seconds of a black man that the police thought had problems with $20.00 died on the street. Over a $20.00 payment from a store! REALLY?!

Make no mistake: this issue will not go away! We all know by now that ALL of the 4 officers have been arrested. And well all know that the AG Keith Ellison is doing a sweeping of the cases that the Minneapolis Police got away with in years past, is now coming into light. And we all know VERY WELL that chokeholds that Police used previously will be banned. EXPECT THAT to happen in all Police Departments in America. Mark my words!

So yes I will say this WITHOUT DEFLECTION: Black Lives Matter! And my black life matters just as those who work, volunteer, attend church, give back to donate, graduated from college and high school, and many other needs that I do like everyone else. No I didn’t serve in the Military, but I serve my community! Let that sink in. No this will not go away. And I don’t care how many individuals are so “All Lives Matter” and those love to bring up “black on black crime” for deflection. When individuals says that, it’s more a say of saying “I don’t want to hear that, talk about you.” Umm….To the Caucasians who say this, believe it or not, you will hear this. You will see color. If we are sick and tired about hearing about your predecessors came to America as Immigrants to Ellis Island and couldn’t speak the language, and had to work really hard, defending America in the World Wars for freedom and many others you brag about with no disrespect, then guess what: YOU WILL HEAR US whether you like it not. Again, we’re citizens too. After all, just like Tamika Mallory said about America’s issues of looting, we learned it from you! I’m just saying.

There will be a part two. Stay tuned.

The Memorial Service of George Floyd – June, 2020.

Here it is: it’s the post edition of the Spot and yet we are supposed to be in the post quarantine mode. Apparently, not. If one of the many have gotten their wish about “Opening America” while getting increased distance of anti-social distancing, anti physical distancing, not wearing masks, no gloves on, not taking the advice of these doctors and scientists, still blaming the democrats of taking always folks freedoms and liberties, 45 acting stupid as usual, GOP in Wisconsin are messing up, Michigan under scrutiny because a black lawmaker went to work with armed black men, plus the hunt against Black Men are still at large, and oh many morons still say the sacreglious phrase of “Happy Memorial Day” WHICH IS NOT! Allow me to scratch my head again.

Hold up: Des Moines, Iowa – WHAT IN THE HAWKEYES LOSING TO THE BADGERS HEARTLAND TROPHY ARE YOU DOING?!

Roland Martin Unfiltered: Black Man beaten in Race Attack in Iowa.

So we just found out about the “gaffe” that Joe Biden said in regards to those whom are Black Conservatives and in his words: “You Aint Black!” Well you know what, if the So-Called woke black folks whom back 45 is actually a thing well how would you explain what 45 did in terms of taking down a portrait of Barack Obama in the White House BREAKING A TRADITION that goes back 40 years?!

So it seems that our so-called President is now labeling Churches as “essential.” REALLY? And now he wants to governors of the country to open them up to bring the normalcy back together. If they don’t do it, he will. IN WHICH HE CAN’T! What will this prove? And by the way, many churches are saying no regardless!

It seems that Republicans want the citizens to rush back for more stuff all trying to get the country reopened. Wait, what has stopped them before with all the harsh disagreements?

Black folks, should Sam’s Club be boycotted after this assault on a 68 year old woman and her son at 43 years old? And her son is MY AGE!

Roland Martin Unfiltered: Police Brutality on Woman and her son in Sam’s Club.

So educators, and those whom are home schooling: How’s that Virtual Education coming along? You all need balance!

In Milwaukee, there was an officer that is being charged with a crime. For all of my Milwaukee folks who didn’t back Tom Barrett: would you back him up for this officer to be fired?

So 45 believes that voting by mail is not right, eh? What about the Poll Workers who operate the sites? You know they have to vote ahead of time!

Every Church MUST LEARN, how to do Zoom, WebEx, Tithe Online, Coordinate Meetings onilne or Audio Phone Conference just to keep up and also WORSHIP! Why is that so hard? Oh wait not everyone is “technically inclined.”

Does it feel real good to acknowledge your anniversary on the actual day of your Graduation Ceremony? Me: Tech School – 20 years. High School next month: 25.

Speaking of Grad Anniversaries: For the reunion buffs, if your Class Reunion would be cancelled for another 5 years or so due to the Coronavirus, you know you can do Zoom Video Conferencing or Facebook Messenger Rooms right?

Are folks still updating their resumes and portfolios and SKILLS to the resumes?

What jams from 1995 are folks listening to in 2020 with all this Quarantine Aftermath gripping us with pain and pestilence?

It’s good to see that the Class of 2020 is getting their due during the virus outbreak. Regardless of the outcome, they should be celebrated. Right? I mean we see it online, does that mean something?

Again: this needs to be asked and harshly questioned: when it comes to Memorial Day, why our younger folks are saying “Happy Memorial Day” like everyone is clueless? DUH! Memorial Day is not for the cheering to be happy, it’s for the deceased who lost their lives in the World Wars and it’s a day of remembrance! Y’all can stop this mess! Should those ask the dumb question need to be punched in the throat?

About 25 years ago, when folks used to ask dumb questions, it usually resounds when it’s not really a dumb question. (No question is a dumb question) My question can it be revived differently?

You need to know that BLACK PEOPLE started Memorial Day. Right? May 1st, 1865.

Memorial Day 2020 will be different because usually Baseball would be on and cracking. But what will take place of the National Pastime?

For all the movies and shows that came out in 1990, which reunion show or movie was the best one so far?

For all the music that came out in 1990 (way before internet radio) who and what was cracking the most that will make most artist today to run for the hills and hide?

CALLOUT: Generation X, are we still winning with our ways that many before us thought it was deemed a waste? Even during the pandemic? Yeah, way before you Millennials and Generation Z folks.

For the men and women of the Armed Forces during the Pandemic, you good?

For the men and women of the Medical Game during this Pandemic, you good?

For the families of the Men and Women who lost a loved one during war, or a Veteran that kept telling his or her stories over and over again that passed on to the other side, are we good? We need to be. Hard but still.

When The Last Dance appeared 10 times for each part, did that really shocked those that Jordan was that mean dude that many couldn’t stand? But they liked him anyway?

Oh this needed to be said: in The Last Dance, Michael Jordan kind of “heckled” some Packers fans in 1998 after they lost the Super Bowl on the plane. He was like: “Hey Cheeseheads, how about those BRONCOS?!” Oh, yeah everyone hated the Pack. Someone should tell Michael not to come from Green Bay! At the time, the Packers were the 12 Time NFL Champions. 12 Times! And Jordan was on his 5th. Don’t come for Green Bay! Why you asked? And keep reminding the Chicago Bears that they haven’t won anything big since Ronald Reagan was President. One time Superbowl Champions my butt! Yeah, tell that story!

Oh let me see, when it comes to white privilage, there’s always this:

Roland Martin Unfiltered: Woman Accosts Black Cop

Does that count as being bigoted or working the fake “Slave Patrol” that is going on? Especially hunting down black men/women?

Just In: More White Privilege. Press Play:

Roland Martin Unfiltered: Central Park Karen gets FIRED!

For all you folks that accuse African-Americans threating white women that this one, expect a termination. Should that be enforced in all companies? And your face is in public.

JUST IN TODAY: This is so UNACCEPTABLE! For all those who love the cops, flagging the Blue Lives Matter Mantra of backing the cops, and seeing this hellacious act of police brutality over in Minnesota, what and where is YOUR REACTION when you see this? Your voices are silent and scared and just cowardly! This was a black male, George Floyd was arrested and one of the cops had his knee on his neck FACE DOWN! George Floyd had 8 minutes of his 46 years of life to live and died at the scene. All this since Memorial Day. By the way this will be discussed in the My Take blog coming up.

The Telegraph – George Floyd Death Scene, 2020. ****WARNING: GRAPHIC FOOTAGE****

This may be off topic, but there are talks and ideas that should be that blacks should take up arms. As in Guns, as in protection. There is a organization, NAAGA which stands for, National African American Gun Association. And it is growing! NRA is failing at the seams. After not acknowledging Philando Castile, Ahmaud Aubery, and most recently, Kenneth Walker. Should all blacks carry arms like the white counterparts which happens all the time? And oh should blacks embrace the 2nd Amendment and make it their own?

PLUS: Where is Wisconsin (especially Black Wisconsin) is in this?!

*Sidenote from the NAAGA Chapters Site:

What the heck is this? TYRANNY RESPONSE TEAM?!

And the last question before we once again pay homage to our fallen military and veterans: Since when did Gov. Tony Evers had this thing regarding being like Hitler? That so-called White Privilege is heating up like a bully. You know who are the real Hitlers: Look at Robin Vos and Scott Fitzgerald.

Never forget the fallen!

So here we are once again. Mother’s Day 2020. For all the mothers still alive and teaching, Happy Mother’s Day to all of you. I hope that many of you will enjoy your day that is specialized with customized opportunities to be with your families and friends. And to many of us also, from all the round the clock of the Coronavirus, another rack of lies of the so-called president, Stay at Home Orders being unfairly challenged, stimulus checks running late: I’m scratching my head again.

So there are those whom have names of “Karens” that are being added to “Beckys” and “Nancys”. Oh, they know right?

For all those that work at Walmart, Target, in all you better be extra careful when you address the 6 ft rule. Someone might take it the wrong way and don’t act stupid to a customer. What would happen IF THEY ADDRESS YOUR MANAGER? Don’t be surprised.

Which is better: Working from home, or Working at the job on the job?

Which is better: acting like a mother, or being a mother?

Man…..2020 is already taking folks left and right like 2012. Why the deaths of Andre Harrell, Little Richard and now Betty Wright?

This needs to be asked AGAIN: why there are those 35 years old and under that don’t want to volunteer?

Do Progressive Radio stations really want black folks, or just their folks?

Is AEW Wrestling actually bringing the pain to the WWE weekly?

For all those asking and wondering AGAIN, what is the value of being in the group that is Woke and Conscious? Somebody needs answers!

Since the WWE had fanless shows out, many blamed them for not having fans. Then AEW, and UFC also had fanless events and shows. Will the MLB, NBA or other sports have fanless stuff while the Coronavirus passes?

In Michigan, their State Rep, Sarah Anthony was escorted to her office with armed Black Men. Wait hold the phone, black folks how many times we talked about how Black Men need to protect Black Women on the internet and in our families, and other groups? Now I need to clarify that black men are not going to hear about how they can protect themselves and then protect the Black Queens in all. The women will not say this. CALLOUT: Women, when was the last time you told your sons, cousins, nephews, grandsons, great grandsons, brothers in all that you(in your words) have to protect me? They need to learn how to defend themselves first even though they have to protect you!

Hold up, this needs to be extra clarified: Whenever we see all these foolish protesters with the rifles, the rebel flags and the Don’t Tread On Me Flags talking about reopen this state or reopen that state. For all you morons making a scene outside of that White Privilege, REALLY? You all are crying and pissed just because you want to governors to “Go Back To Normal” as usual. Well, I got news for you, we don’t know that! We don’t know if and when we will or would go back to normal. So technically if we are to open the state, you all ready know that many might DIE right? There are those of you might say, “Oh we are very aware about those dying in all….” Really? If you are really that concerned about those whom are on the illness, why are you fools are making this a political issue!? This is a HEALTH AND WELLNESS CONCERN! Wake up!

The month of May is two things: Military Appreciation Month and also, Mental Health Awareness Month. You know what it is. Why is it important to recognize them both you asked? READ THE HISTORY!

Hold Up, YET AGAIN: So you got this Shelly Luther didn’t close her shop in Dallas Texas because she defied a Executive Stay Home given by the state and city. Then by the judge, she was given 7 days of jail. After that, there was Go Fund Me page for the shop, and it was raised $500,000. A raise in….White Privilege! So opening a shop is worth than saving lives? This is was nothing more than insane thoughts. Ain’t it something? And oh, what would happen if a black woman or a black man opened a Barbershop or a Beauty Salon during the pandemic? Take a while guess.

If Virtual Learning is not that liked or criticized by those who are just now learning it, why complain? And if anyone knows this is me going through UW-Stout. By the date comes on May 13th: 14 years. And oh I survived it!

30 years ago in 1990, Milwaukee had a snow storm that was on May 10th. Did we almost had a repeat?

Last year, there were 20 Democrats for the determination to become the nominee for the General Election. Now since Joe Biden is the last man standing, will he go through

MTV needs more dance shows. Most recently they have brought back Club MTV after 30 years being on the shelf. And to ask, where’s Downtown Julie Brown?

Oh, fair question: how many of you have updated your resumes and portfolios?

Again people: I need to ask though, if you are looking for a job in all in your hometown, then all of a sudden you get calls from out of state that the jobs are open in a temporary basis. My question is: why are the LOCAL COMPANIES not calling or contacting the folks about the jobs in the community?! Very corny.

For the Class of 2020: Many of us are so sorry that you’ll not do the traditional way of walking with your classes. W can still say congrats. However, what about doing it virtually or has that happened?

Should CareerBuilder have an option to not have a choice of not making their customers choosing Temp Jobs?! That’s right I said it!

Since DJ D-Nice showed up on Instagram with the jams. It seems that every other DJ since him has done this on Facebook, Periscope, Twitch, Live TV, and other related platforms after him. Hold up: has this been done before, almost?

Introverts: My fellow Innies, are we winning?

Oh, and PS: Dad’s count too in a sense.

Alright, we are several weeks removed from the horrible shooting that took place at MillerCoors on Ash Wednesday here in Milwaukee during Black History Month 2020. And yet, the reaction of the shooting is not only shocking Milwaukee but also the state of Wisconsin and also captured the lasting impression on the World and North America. Oh yeah, Milwaukee they know us now!

But as we progress in the months and weeks ahead of our work weeks, it’s respectable that we remember those who have been fatally killed in the Miller Brewery Shooting:

  • Jesus Valle Jr., 33, of Milwaukee
  • Gennady Levshetz, 61, of Mequon
  • Trevor Wetselaar, 33, of Milwaukee
  • Dana Walk, 57, of Delafield
  • Dale Hudson, 60, of Waukesha

These five men were hispanic and white. Some were fathers, brothers, one of them was a Veteran of the Armed Forces, and they were all machinists, electricians, and engineers. And on Ash Wednesday 2020, they never came back home to be with their families. They had their last dinners with their families on the night before, and their last good byes on their final working day on earth at the legendary brewery. Everyone knows that Milwaukee is the original home when it comes to beer. From Blatz, to Schlitz, Pabst, and of course Miller. Milwaukee was a strong hold of Breweries that got the city like Harley-Davidson and Cream food on the map. Of all those those things that made Milwaukee famous, we all know that there was and is another thing that made Milwaukee famous that we talk about all the time: Segregation. For many of us in the city, we know that Milwaukee is “hyper segregated”, hell we’re segregated with our recent voting from February 18th which is different story. But even that also effected the major breweries based on the experiences the black workers went through based on discrimination and racism. The shooter, Anthony Ferrill in which many have labeled him as a folk hero in the black community faced discrimination at Miller 5 years ago when many stated about finding a Noose in his locker and a black spade card. Later on the discrimination portion was solved. But afterwards, it escalated with additional racism. The shooter also killed himself as part of that fateful day of shock at Miller Brewery. For those who don’t know, Miller Brewery has been a staple of Milwaukee since 1855. The company’s headquarters near 45th and State or 38th and Highland has been supporters of our sports teams, community involvement, sponsorship, and yes retail in which many of our stores sell the legendary beer product. When you take a tour of Miller, you’re taking a tour of history from the beginning until now. I’m not talking about the hops only. And also that the company has caves, brewery caves that is. In which many that the beer had been transported years back. Now it’s a highlighted attraction of showing the image of the late Frederick Miller, plus word is that you can do Yoga exercises in the caves that used to transport Beer! And yet, it’s across the street from Harley-Davidson facing Highland Avenue.

But now in all this, we Milwaukeeans or most of us have rallied around a hashtag that many supported. The hashtag, #MilwaukeeStrong has become a new beacon that enable us to get and be strong in our city that has many felt lost it way. The same “strong” hashtag has got other cities like Boston, Las Vegas and many others rallied in terms of rising after a bad disatster of mass shootings that had taken place. We hope that the #MilwaukeeStrong should have a positive role of uplifting this city in the dealt of Segregation, Racism, Violence, and many other concerns that many feel that it must be changed for the better. Milwaukee is 174 years old, but as its status of having this moniker of being a segregated city, its going to take more than a hashtag to move a city better.

The Designer of the Milwaukee Strong Logo.

But..when I was on Facebook, and I’m looking at all the #milwaukeestrong hashtags, there was posting that was questioning an angle relating to racism or being racist. One of our community activist, Tory Lowe recently stated his “opinion” in regarding the “Milwaukee Strong” moniker on March 4th:

Tory LoweMarch 4 at 12:48 PM

“I heard that allegedly the saying Milwaukee Strong is a code word for the Milwaukee white community to stand together. The images promoting Milwaukee Strong came as a cry for unity after the shooting at Miller Coors. A marketing campaign said to further push the narrative of segregation not inclusion of the black community. Milwaukee is considered the worst place in the country for blacks to live and one of the best places for whites to live.

I honestly hope that one day everyone will be included in moving the city forward”

I need to say something here. And while were at it, he is currently is running for Alderman for the 6th district verses current Alderwoman Milele Coggs in April for Wisconsin’s Spring General Election. But I need to call out this comment of being misinformed. Yes you got that right! So Tory’s sources thinks or assumes allegedly that the Milwaukee Strong hashtag, sign, statement or whatever is another division to separate black folks and white folks who want the same thing of thriving, working, building a better city. Really? How does that add up? Let me perfectly clear of what I am about to say and if any of the supporters and backups are reading this that felt this way, STOP! Let me break this down:

Did Tory Lowe ACTUALLY contacted the Leinenkugels about this sign?

Did he ACTUALLY contacted Graphic Designer Lindsay Leinenkugel who works for the Leinenkugels Brewery about this sign and the reasons behind it?

Did anyone of his “sources” ACTUALLY went to the Leinenkugels or contacted them about the reasons why the sign was made in the FIRST PLACE? Did they actually talked to them? Just like among themselves on Social Media? Or anyone in general that uses the Milwaukee Strong slogan regarding something positive?

If all those answers were no, NEWSFLASH: you played yourselves! Straight up! You’re probably thinking, “So what it’s what I feel in all”. Yeah, but did they ask them?! It’s a simple yes or no question. They probably didn’t! Bad move! And if so, where are the receipts? Proof? Evidence? WHERE?!

See, this is what I have learned from things that I don’t understand, I usually do what many folks forget to do at times is to , ASK THE SOURCE! Ask those whom design, promote, advertise and etc. Stop the assumptions! Why is this so hard, even in this technological era of the 21st Century? Even asking the main folks! This really defines stupidity in our so-called Woke Conscious, Hotep era that many don’t really listen or don’t ask! If the Black Panthers for example keep asking among themselves online about why the churches don’t open up their doors when it’s cold and freezing, then they have failed! They haven’t attended the churches! I have not seen not one of them attending a church asking the pastor or congregation about the hard questions. Not one! No church meetings, picnics, block parties, dinners, fundraisers, or even during a service on Christmas, Easter, or Mother’s Day. Yeah I’m saying this. (#ThatPart) Again, for those who feel that the sign is “allegedly racist” per se and never asked the main source without any receipts, congratulations you’ve played yourself. And just to add, I’ve seen on Instagram that some black folks either used or displayed the #milwaukeestrong hashtag moniker in their pictures or comments. So what again in my viewpoint is wrong for a black person who is from this city, and works in this city that uses that hashtag? Well, nothing. Now what will happen if the colors of the sign above were to be Red, Black and Green? Or have a sign that might say “Black Milwaukee Strong?” And check this out, there was a color scheme in Black History Month that the makers of MKE Black App used the People’s Flag design that was designed in the Marcus Garvey Colors. And no one said anything bad. Hmmmmmm, where’s the lie? Lot of you probably assuming that I’m hating on Tory. No, I’m not hating nor judging him personally. I’m hating on the fact that he didn’t do the one thing by asking the main source of this matter. That right there, will get you trapped. I told my church this slightly before my father’s third anniversary passing, and I’m saying it here: to quote Ice Cube, “You need to check yourself before you wreck yourself!” And to add: #FACTS and #THATPART.

Well, it’s a known fact that mis-information or assumption can spread like a virus. But it’ll take the truth or main source to inject the real deal to seal it.

So in conclusion, and might I say in closing, in regarding Milwaukee Strong, we need to be really “Milwaukee Strong” in our neighborhoods, schools, jobs, and many other areas to thrive and rise. EVEN VOTING! And that goes for all Milwaukeeans. Even for us in the Black Community that faces the constant struggle each time we see and experience discrimination of White Supremacy. No matter where in this city or area. We pay our taxes and pull our fair share too! So what’s up with that? And yet, the struggle continues. Even though there are more minorities here than everywhere else in the state, but still we to inject all into to make “Milwaukee Strong” a living breathing reality.

In other words: Steady Progress.

Its been a long minute since that I written a double take on anything. But in the recent events of a triple homicide and also just today, 45 is up to some go back where you came from  remarks to OUR 4 US Congresswomen that are all minorities, was one of the disgusting and vile commentary out this man’s mouth! So yes, we are mad as hell! And as I speak on this date being hot, guess what? The heat is on.

First take: An innocent mother loses her life. Many of us in the community  had heard of the triple homicide that occurred in the city of Milwaukee in late June. The area was near 85th and Grantosa which is not far from my sister’s residence that this senseless murder happened. When word got out that the victims were dead by one shooters, one of the victims was a daughter of my Lay Minister from his first marriage. The victim was named Sonya Collins. And according to the reports, she was killed due to the fact that she was trying to protect her children. And the attacker, Oshonti Cannady at age 21 did the job not only on Sonya, but also on two other women at the scene. After that part of the week was dismal, many of us my church was just talking about the incident that was still fresh in our minds. But I kept thinking about the family and MANILY the father of the daughter that I know that had to be extremely hurt over the senseless loss of her daughter. Here’s the thing, Sonya was just 41 years old. She was a mother that once again was trying to protect her children. Her babies! As any mother (excuse me, REAL MOTHER) would do in any situation by standing and protecting her kids! And all that ended in a senseless manner. Oh yes, duirng the week at Church, yes we were talking about it. And yet many of us recalled how many on the congregation lost their loved ones in a senseless manner in the past. Me, I lost 2 cousins in 2002 and 2010. Both in the Summertime. In the months of July and August. We were rocked with grief and anguish. One of my cousins was just 21 years old that started his own business of a Ice Cream Parlor in the inner city of Milwaukee. And going to school to UW – Milwaukee. What lead to the killing at the time was his car. My cousin was driving a 1996 Chevy Lumina that he bought with his own money. And with that, a set of rims that was purchased. These were the rims that many were being targeted for killings and crimes. Unfortunately for my cousin, he was being chased at least 3 times for his car. In the early morning of late July in that year. Here it was a young black male, from a good family, educated, had a job of his own, and yes we do talk about the endangered species when it comes to our African-American Males! Weeks later in my church then, the attacker of my cousin was caught and was sentenced to more that 10 years in prison. And all of this was because of some car rims that many wanted in a criminal manner. In all GETTING CAR RIMS!

My other cousin was a mother, whom was stabbed to death by her alleged boyfriend in August of 2010. And was so shocking for my youngest cousin, she saw the stabbing in a closet with grief and shock. This is one of my father’s nieces. And usually when we get together for family outings or meetings, it usually involves a Funeral. Am I alone that goes through this? When family members most gather for funerals to say goodbye to a member that was known or not known well? But many of us in the family are trying to change the concept in which gathering at funerals are not the always norm everytime. But getting to my cousin that was stabbed in 2010, we also felt the concern that her children will have to live with their Aunt and Uncle without their mother being around everyday. Weeks later, my cousin’s attacker was found and caught in the state of Illinois and was sentenced for the murder. All of this was 9 years ago in the hot summer of Milwaukee.

Getting back of course: When I explained all this in church in early July, I told my Lay Member and as well as my UMM Men’s Church member (who also lost his nephew in the same day as Sonya Collins)  that the attackers are just “running and hiding.” But eventually will get caught. I made a prediction that they will get caught and will not get far. I made a prediction about this and held nothing back based on I know. Well guess what ladies and gentlemen, on July 13th, 2019 in the same day that Sonya Collins was laid to rest, her attacker was caught and captured. Sonya was murdered in late June. I said either a couple of weeks or a month that the capture would happen. I asked the family and the church this question: “What did I tell you?” I told them this would happen. Now since the capture that has happened let the true justice, and I mean “TRUE JUSTICE”  must commence and come into play. I got another say on this: I thinking that the sentencing part of this, Oshonti will probably get at 10 years to life in prison. Why I am saying all this on this blog full of nice things? Guess what, I’ve mentioned this before and yes this all comes to those like, we need to take back our neighborhoods, our cities, or Black Lives Matter. Oh of course that many will scream out the question of “What about black on black crime?” This example was and is still in the crawl of most white folks asking when a black male/female gets killed by white folks with badges and guns or by senseless attackers. And of course in our black community we always say that we need to do better for our people in all, but some of us get reality checked ourselves that incidents like this complex every single time. Sometimes we ask about “why blacks don’t celebrate the 4th of July” when we see or read about bodies in the street? And usually that about police brutality. But when one of our own do this, we kind of run and hide from the question. I’m speaking the truth to power. When this happens in all we need to hold ourselves very accountable in terms of US being killed by others. As for these murders, we can go to the government and continue to regulate and try to regulate NEW Laws, but many we need to do it ourselves! It starts with US!

Second Take: take a look of this mess from today. We’ve all seen it while working on the job.

Oh, and see this also:

Did anyone believe the B.S. and I mean the B.S. coming out of this so-called President’s mouth? This is supposed to be the leader of the free world that supposed to set an example of positive. But many should not be surprised that this fool of the leader had to call out 4 of our US Congresswomen of Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlab, Ayanna Pressley, and yes Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. All 4 of them had the message to “go back to where they came from”. And also this is sending shock-waves not just in the United States, but also the world. 3 of 4 Congresswomen are U.S. Citizens but Omar is an immigrant that became a citizen 19 years ago. So yes, Congresswoman Ilhan Omar is a U.S. Citizen!

“The newly assembled Squad” had a response in regarding 45 dumbfound remarks:

I need to ask, this why do we say to folks, “go back where you came from?” And second, why are we saying this in 2019?! This is all about the one thing that many are beginning to understand that #whitefear is in the minds of those who want to keep the United States of America all under the white rule. Under the White Supremacy that many of us non-whites are sick and tired of. What they are really saying that we should be running this country, not many of the minorities.

Let me be clear to the idiotic bigots that want this to happen. You are indeed playing yourselves!

Even the so-called president whom made the statement is playing himself with these remarks. And yet, you got many folks like him are nodding in agreement. “Go back where you came from” is nothing more than a racist code word by stating that “we don’t want you”. Or “You can’t be us because you aren’t one of us.” or “You’re not our type.” Or many other warning signs of fear that many of the 45 Supporters don’t even want to condemn the so-called president of the remarks he’s stated! Let’s be real: 45 or Trump doesn’t give a rat’s carcass about no minorities in the majority that doesn’t agree with him.

LOOK HERE! THESE ARE #FACTS! And many of us whom are born here in the United States aren’t going back to bow down to the conformity of others that doesn’t make sense! It didn’t make sense back then, or when it started and it sure is hell doesn’t make sense NOW! All this “Go back to where you came from” is dumb!

And oh, here is a flashback: Remember when Obama was in office? Remember when the right wing fans about telling him or commenting about him going back to Kenya? His father was Kenyan Born. Oh yes conservatives and Tea Party Baggers you should remember! And that includes this birther crap (take our country back) that wanted to see if he’s a Citizen, or a Christian (even though he went to Rev. Jerimiah Wright’s Church in Chicago) , or even all of this stuff that didn’t make sense that Obama should do during his 8 years in the chair. This “all going back” crap has been heard so many times from Black folks, Latino Folks, and many others that the so-called 45 President labeled the countries “Sh*tHole Countries”. Some of those so-called “Sh*thole Countries” are laughing the crap out of us. They are. And in fact, I don’t blame them! And when 2020 gets here and if this So-Called President gets reelected, you know that the joke will be on us United States Citizens. Matter of fact, the joke was on us since November of 2016 that many voted him over Hilary, who had EXPERIENCE! But no, the so-called “silent majority” in this country is dumb. The same silent majority that voted up for 45 and those whom are actively wearing those #MAGA hats has racial ties, believe it or not. THINK ABOUT IT!

I’ll bet many years ago used it as a weapon to make the minorities inferior because they didn’t fit the system. Oh really? There have been many times the American Flag was used as a weapon against those whom have been label inferior in this country as a symbol of oppression. That is true. Even though it looks good “on display” as I said in the past. But of course that the flag had oppression viewpoints on how it was presented to scare or to make those less than worthless. Yes I’m talking about black folks that were fighting to get a seat at the table. And were still fighting TODAY to get that chance.

CALLOUT! For all the folks whom assumed that black folks ran their course: NEWSFLASH! the folks have NOT ran their course. We’ve only just begun again.

This is why every 4th of July and every Juneteenth Day, as much as everyday I say these words: “THE STRUGGLE CONTINUES”. And this example is one of them!

Well, it seems that Black History Month 2019 is about to be in the books. And apparently that this was one of the almost weird Black History Month Celebrations that has happened. Oh, yes it’s 93 years old. And it seems that many already forgotten that the occasion is not a racist celebration. And many had to be reminded that it does matter just like the various White stories we hear almost every day at work, school, or anywhere else. I said many times before that Black History is NOT American History. It may have some American elements in all, but it’s not only American. Black History is also celebrated in different world countries like Canada, the UK, France, Haiti, Jamaica, and others. It’s not just America alone!

So what were my moments that helped made Black History Month 2019 good?

Well, let’s start with the Oscars. No, I’m not going to go toe to toe and bash the Oscars in context. But I will say this: Regina King (aka Brenda Jenkins from 227) Black Panther walked with 3 Oscar W’s in the areas of Production Design won by Hannah Beachler who became the first African-American Female to win that category. Original Score of the movie won by
Ludwig Goransson (non-black), and also Best Costume Design by Ruth Carter. Oh, at long last after 30 years in the movie game: Spike Lee (YES THAT SPIKE LEE) after all this time, won an Oscar for directing as part of the win for the movie Black Klansman. This was Spike’s first Oscar Win and many thought that it was about time that he got one. Just to think, 30 years. Since the first movie that he directed: Do the Right Thing. And even though “Green Book” was highly undiscovered, the actor, however, Mahershala Ali became an Oscar Award Winner in getting the category’s Best Supporting Actor. Later on, Green Book won the best picture of the year and yes Octavia Spencer along with Mahershala were acknowledged.

For Music: I can name many: But Gary Clark, Jr won this one. If you have not picked up “This Land” at your Targets, Best Buys, Amazons, iTunes, or Google Play, your music collections in Black History Month was not saved! The album was supposed to be launched in March, but thankfully it was pushed back in February a week after his birthday on the 22nd. Yes, February 22nd was dubbed Washington’s Birthday, but I don’t think no one was thinking of that. Yes, this was the “This Land” album that had many folks buzzing since the video woke up all being shocked and surprised, with the black folks standing on the Confederate Flags. But it also dealt with the fact that racism is still an ugly feeling of hate on someone because of skin color. And many thought that Gary was separating the races in all. BULL CRAP! Many African-American Songwriters and musicians who were and mostly all Civil Rights Activists, Peace Activists and Social Justice Warriors all talked about how bad Racism/Discrimination is. So to those who were are want to be fans of Gary Clark, Jr. after he said the lyrics: “Run N***a Run, Run back where you come from”, you need to check yourself! He’s addressing the concern that many of you probably fear to talk about it at your group events full of black folks! And I’ll bet many of you, got Black Friends on speed dial! Don’t act surprised.

Here in Wisconsin: we had a debate about who should have been and chosen to be celebrated in the badger state’s Black History Highlights. The name Colin Kaepernick was on the minds of many. The Wisconsin GOP overwhelm didn’t add Colin Kaepernick’s name to the list of achievements due to his protesting of the NFL/National Anthem. Many called him being “too controversial.” And it gained national attention. However many in the Milwaukee area, where Colin was born decided to add his name to the City of Milwaukee’s Black History Month Segments in which many deemed well received as a good thing. Many also had agreed that other activists and civil rights leaders were deemed controversial, but many were praised for their work later on when they age or pass on. And yet, that was called out on being hypocritical. So yes, the City of Milwaukee accomplished a notion that the state’s GOP failed! And how DARE the Wisconsin GOP suggested to tell us whom to celebrate for our Month of Black History?! We don’t need NO ONE TELLING US whom to celebrate and highlight. No one! Also our new elected Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes was highlighted not only on the state level, but also in Milwaukee’s news outlets for Channel 6 and 12’s Black History Month’s Segments. Keep in mind, he’s the first African-American Lt. Governor in the state.

Another highlight of Black History Month in 2019 that I didn’t see coming: Solange Knowles, Beyoncé’s baby sister bought a social media website that many haven’t used in a while and also deleted years ago: BlackPlanet. You remember BlackPlanet where black folks and other folks logged in and getting all the info about who’s who? Way before Facebook and Instagram came in slightly after Myspace, and oh that’s where I met “Stacey Heskinson” and “Mary Lee” who were FAKES! Fake hookups! That is why I deleted my Black Planet Page is because of them and others like them who almost tricked me in giving money to them trying to get out of Nigeria. Yes, that’s the truth over 10 years ago. But since then, I stuck with those who know me and that lead me to Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Instagram, and others that are not tricky. And I’m sure many who used BlackPlanet then had been tricked. So I’m not really looking forward to the reunion of the BlackPlanet party, but I will say that yes if any black folks still want to go to Black Planet and revive the username and password, be my guest. But happy that Solange bought the company though.

Sidenote: even my denomination of the United Methodist Church had several Black History References from quizzes to Black Harry. Yes, black folks played a role in this and the tradition continues to this day as well as other denominations, non-denominational etc. Plus, several African-American Teachers decorated their classroom doors in honor of their Colleges, Fraternities, Sororities, famous figure in history, and many more! And the idea came from Facebook!

Back in Milwaukee, during the first week of Black History Month: MPS had a week of meetings, events, social plays and others in regarding “National Black Lives Matter Week”. And with the week in summary, also regarding the activities, that an idea to incorporate Black History in the school subjects everyday that many of the kids and teens can learn about other black leaders and legends other than Martin Luther King, Jr. other than Malcolm X, other than Rosa Parks, and etc. I don’t know about the other school districts, but WAKE UP! Black History is not just an “American Fad”. It’s for all to learn from. And on a side note, of course, we need to learn about our subject all the time every day like apps and tablets.  Also, one of our Milwaukee Municipal Judges Derek Mosley takes the time every February to summarize stories of Black History to social media. He’s been doing this for 10 years, and yet the summaries are still valuable for all to understand!  Follow him on Facebook!

However: I need to say something that I’ve been seeing a whole lot of #BlackHistory365 or #BlackHistoryEveryday or I’m black every month comments. I think we’re kind of missing the boat here. OF COURSE! We are supposed to summarize our culture everyday. But black folks, hear me out when I tell you at times, we DON’T hardly acknowledge our people EVERYDAY! We don’t do it like the other ethnics do all the time, everyday. The only time we acknowledge I think around celebrating our people is really around family reunions, weddings, anniversaries, the club, and yet also: funerals. But as far as more of everyday when many are not doing problems we skip over that for some reason. We go to work, school, or worrying about that thing in the Mall or stores! There was a comment asked about how can we celebrate our folks everyday and believe it or not, it was on the Stephen’s Spot Twitter Page. The answer was more like an opinionated thought of starting out basic and continue to build on the knowledge every time. Learn from those that have extended knowledge and to build your learning in summary. Of course, it’s hard to do, but ask this: If we can be so knowledgeable about Technology or the latest game, why can’t we be so knowledgeable about our history in the same context? Not just talking the talk, BUT ACTUALLY, WALK THE FREAKING WALK! Man, we can hashtag all we want, but that hashtagging better be in action! Which means also that you better not charge up your Black History in March or later months, but left it lying lifeless in February. That’s a foul ball.

And of course in Black History Month 2019, there were several problems of turmoil: Jussie Smollett of Empire was allegedly attacked in Chicago all to do with some thugs wearing MAGA attire, but apparently, it was beginning to be a rumored attack. And his character on the show is not going to happen in the last three episodes in this matter. And yes also: R. Kelly turned himself in after all this time being in the Hot Seat of this Child Molestation charges that many dodged for so long. And also recently during the Michael Cohen testimonies, the 45 administration brought in Lynne Patton whom she feels that 45 is not a racist. Well, welcome to tokenism! Have a seat next to Candace Owens about what she said about Hitler being a nice guy. STOP IT! Hitler was not a cool dude so let’s not be so petty or tap dance like a fool. And speaking of that in stupidity: the issue of Blackface reared its ugly head. Don’t get me started!

So how do we end Black History Month of 2019? We should end by stating that we always should acknowledge our ancestors that brought us knowledge and wisdom to carry forward. It’s been 2 years since my father’s passing, but I’m holding to the torch. It’s a hard job to grasp but I’m trying. Also, we need to be thankful that a month like this that started with Dr. Carter G. Woodson in 1926 that got us talking about us. Keep in mind, NO ONE was talking about us! Until Dr. Woodson heard the Black Civil War Veterans talking in the coal mines in the South. And we also end the #BHM2019 Celebrations by the ongoing efforts to give our black kids a voice. A black voice to tell them that many might not acknowledge them of their talents and being black, but still, prove them WRONG! I want to acknowledge our young black kings and queens that your time is coming. Be ready and willing.

CALLOUT: And a lesson to all of us that Black History Month SHOULD NOT BE underestimated by anyone! Even if you’re black yourself!

Our proud historical events and ideas are still out in interests. And yet many of us have to begin new chapters to extend the stories. Black History Month 2019 may be already in the archives, but yet the summaries and extended plays still go on all the time. Or if you’re like yours truly: you can do BOTH by celebrate Black History Month and summarize Black History every time. No, it’s not a mistake. Keep it in the middle!

And that alone needs no permission!

#BLACKHISTORYMONTH4LIFE!
And yet, the struggle continues.

Truth be told: It’s June 19th. AKA – Juneteenth Day.

And the thing is there is a scratching of the heads from those whom feel that they never knew the holiday, or the occasion why this day exists.

It’s always been here. And it’s been around since June 19th, 1865.

If those need a history lesson on why Juneteenth Day is here and why it exists, let this enlighten you.

I’m assuming that many woke up this morning and asking what’s Juneteenth Day? I’m assuming that many didn’t get the memo about the last of the black slaves that were set free on this day in 1865 in Galveston, Texas. I’m assuming that yes, Abraham Lincoln scripted the document, the Emancipation Proclaimation on January 1st, 1863 in the idea of setting up the plan to free the slaves and the use of the word FREEDOM. Yes, that is what Juneteenth is in a sense, the freedom day that blacks heard the news that the last of the slavery portion was indeed over.

Why is this holiday since 1865 really matter to……let’s say the 4th of July? You know that the 4th of July in which many will dress like Lady Liberty, and fireworks in your local parks? Yeah, that one. But it’s also the same 4th of July that my ancestors were in bondage. They were slaves. They didn’t get all the freedoms that the rich white folks and their associates had to get. The ONLY way that the Slaved Men of African Decent had to get freedom back in the 18th Century in all, was to do one thing: serve in the Continental Army for one year and after that service is up, they will be guaranteed their freedom. Even the British Army were given the same option! The whole Fourth of July, or the “Fourth of YOU LIE!” thing was really about the freedom thing being denied due to the black folks being enslaved of no rights! From 1776 to 1865, black folks had to endure approximately 89 years of being enslaved with the words: tyranny, oppression and persecution. Oh they couldn’t enjoy the fireworks.

We all know that. I think we know it without all the googles.

Now to the crowd is asking this question: “Why didn’t I learned this in school?” I can answer that: it was never taught to you. The teachers you had probably never taught you that part of black history that should have been part of the curriculum. The real blame in my view is on the curriculum. Not just the teachers and authors of updated history books! The reason I picked the curriculum because I think it starts at the top of the educational food chain in all of the schools. And yes, as an Alumni of a School District like Milwaukee, and colleges like Milwaukee’s MATC and UW-Stout I agree with this message.

Juneteenth Day is important to summarize like the 4th of July in a sense because it was and is a monumental event in history of gaining independence. Gaining freedom. Gaining prosperity. And yes, gaining a thought to be equal for all. The late MLK as many like to quote alot, had often said “be true what you say on paper!” Be true! Don’t just be like, “oh, I like the blacks and I got black friends!” Or bringing up about Black on Black Crime, or the dumb question of “what are you celebrating?

Spoiler Alert: You will be asked that same question about celebrating the 4th of July. Just wait.

Now folks, can we please stop? Just stop right there.

If many really have black friends that dealt with police brutality, racism, being discriminated due to financial, spiritual, health related matters in all, even shot in the back while running from the cops for no reason, what is the deal?!

The deal is, in my opinion, even though that Juneteenth Day 2018 is coming to a close for another year, between now and next year, what’s next after all of the parades, food, merch, and red drinks like kool-aid?And how come Juneteenth Day doesn’t have a fireworks display? Come on, now! Propose an idea to get a fireworks display on the week before or after June 19th! Just like in the local festivals.

America must continue to deal with the grip of facing the realities of racism. Mainly of race. Juneteenth Day may abolished the thought of slavery, the reality of this is that spirit of slavery in such of Jim Crow, and up until now: the struggle continues! Even I say this after the Fourth of July will be concluded with the last blast of fireworks and picnics, and many may forget, guess what: THE STRUGGLE CONTINUES! Even in the era of 45 making a fool out of us and the world is probably asking what is wrong with America?

Oh you don’t hear me!

So yes: Happy Juneteenth Day! And also – the struggle does indeed, continues!

I need to go in on this. Really I do.

By now, everybody knows that recently Starbucks in Philadelphia has been in the news due to the outrage of two African American Men, who work as Realtors were arrested. They didn’t pull no crimes, no mischief. None of that. They were waiting on for a friend of theirs that they met recently. All week, we were looking of the footage of the Philadelphia Police arresting the men and yes, there was outrage and confusion by all this mess:

The main reason for all of this meeting was business. A realtor business! That’s all it was. It was supposed to be a business meeting. In which MANY FOLKS do all the time everyday in restaurants or coffee shops. That’s what it is. But now, it’s clear in the tape or the recorded footage that the men were just arrested for some misguided occurrence. And yes being BLACK in the same city for one: The country’s Birthday was started and two, the same Football team won a thing called a Superbowl.

Yes: Philly!

While many of us were in shock and awe about the black men being arrested for waiting on their client, this also got the attention of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. One of the two men is a member and yes when one member of the Divine 9 is in a jam, the whole fraternity is summoned to support his cause. Matter of fact other folks of the Divine 9 should be in SOLID SUPPORT of this brother! No matter if you’re an Alpha, Kappa, Sigma, Iota, AKA, Delta, Sigma Gamma Rho or a Zeta. Period. Put your letters aside, your colors aside, your stepping and get out and SUPPORT THIS BROTHER! Some of you are probably doing this, I want to see MORE of the support. I know you have your beliefs and opinions. I don’t care about that. If I was in your position as a member I would be out there in the trenches helping out! That’s just my opinion.

This is more like the common phrase, buy something or get out. Or that certain line, buy something or go to jail. Don’t tell me if you heard that before.

Another twist in all this: Philly’s Police Commissoner. I’m trying to wrap my head around the thought that the officers who arrested the men, were doing their job at Starbucks. By the way, he’s black.

Then later on couple days, he retracted his statement:

So my question is, WHY THIS NOW?! Seriously! Why was not this clarified? This is what things like this goes wrong. And the misjudgment of the arrest have been made and have been flat out wrong! Just like Starbucks’ manager or now FORMER manager has been flat out wrong just because two black customers were waiting for a colleague and had done nothing wrong! At all. It’s also mindboggling that there are those who feel that Americans get all in their feelings per se in dealing with the act of racism. Let me say this who are so-called Americans and yes NON-Americans just looking at this: Racism is in America’s DNA. And that same Racism is in the DNA it’s also in DNA’s of the non- American Audience. That means racism is international too. Don’t always assume that “Oh, that’s America’s problem.” But again it’s not America’s dilemma!

So for this yes, the CEO of Starbucks by now had to make a statement of what happened. All that backtracking or backpeddling is nothing more than a cop out. It’s like it a way to say, “what I meant to say was…” –

CALLOUT: What are you trying to say?! Back flipping and back peddling will get you no where.

The two men arrested got out of course, and also telling their stories about being detained for a client. And oh guess what? Starbucks will close most of their 8,000 plus locations in the country will close for Racial-bias training. Yep, you read that right: “Racial-Bias Training”. Now I need to ask what would be the conclusion and objective from this training? What would that accomplish? Another question is, why is only Starbucks closing for one day? Why aren’t the other businesses who have a history of dissing black clients and customers either local or national closing up for one day for the same ideals of “racial bias training” for the employees? Even the local bars and clubs who likely to cater and counter the corner church every weekend. Guess what, it’s a business! And every business no matter if you’re national owned, local owned, or self employed under contract all deserves the same training.

So guess what, by now we know that Starbucks learned their lessons. Partially. But will the lessons stick after May 29th? Only time will tell.

But you’ll enjoy the lattes, right?

Oh, you know I had to do it. Last year I did this and got rave reviews. But I kept it real. Last year for Black History Month, I scratched my head. Now this year, its a repeat. With new updated questions that kept my head scratching since. But for this, it’s for Black History Month 2018. Buckle up! I’m not pulling no punches!

Question: is this statement still relevant? With no substance? Let’s be real. Seriously!

BET has a new show for the black brothers called Mancave. Yes, a black man’s show featuring Tank, Jeff Johnson, Kosine and Slink. They talk about the current affairs of news that goes on. But I have a question: why are you females are watching it? Y’all got Sister Circle on TVONE! No females in the Mancave. I’m just saying!

Is black news really missing NewsOne Now since it got canceled?

Why are folks late reading stuff? Especially about black history? And what I have written?

If Black History is really supposed to be “American History”, why there are some school districts don’t want to hear our history?

Spoiler Alert: Not all Black History is American History! It’s not! Other countries have a Black History too. (Canada, England, France, Italy, Jamaica, Haiti, etc.) Any questions?

Attention Black Authors: we write about our history as well our stories. Past and Present. Does it really matter we do it more?

Again: if we are to supposed to acknowledge our black history everyday, why don’t we at times? Oh were at the lines waiting for the Air Jordans to drop or non big issues that we forget that is meaningless at times. Or were just not engaged!

Black Churches: we have a lot of black history to share up. From the founding of our churches to community involvement. Does it still matter today despite of those hating or assuming that we’re just about the money or praying in circles/tongues? Or going out to eat after the sermon?

Every February 7th, it’s National Black HIV Awareness Day. Want to know the reason?

This week was the start of the original Negro History Week that was the prelude to Black History Month currently. Some ask what was the reason? They should know by now.

Do Black Superheroes Matter? We know Black Panther is coming and Black Lightning is on TV. Either way, black superheroes are winning.

Does Black Archiving Matter? Ask yourself if you are a black historian of any kind.

Does Black Employment Matter? And I’m not talking about just owning your business!

10 years ago, am I the only one followed the momentum when Barack Obama was gaining to be the first black president?

For my Alumni Black Educators and Family! Does forming or being involved in a Black Alumni Chapter really matters to us? Especially at the PWI Schools that have or had minor population of black students with Black Student Unions? By the way: ALL COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES who don’t have an Black Alumni Chapter need to start one!

For my Military Black Families and Black Veterans, and Families of Black Veterans: Do we matter? After all, many of our Fathers, Grandfathers, Uncles, Aunts, Mothers, Cousins, Grandmothers, etc all have a history of serving in Uniform that is part of the tradition since the American Revolution. Even in times when America didn’t love us back! Keep up other folks.

I need to ask this: How many African-American Sons and Daughters right now are apart of the American Legion Family? I need to ask this for real! And how many actually don’t know what the American Legion Family is whom have or had Veterans in the family that lived or died?

For those saying Black Future Month, you know the things you doing now will be history, right? Not trying to spoil the parade here.

So folks want to make a joke about Black History Month as a punch line to pop off at the mouth for hate. Ummm…..so many don’t do it around Hispanic Heritage Month or Women’s History Month?

Recently in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, one my local journalist commented about former Interim Mayor Marvin Pratt about the city not having a full term mayor of African-American decent. If you know Milwaukee historically, majority of the Mayors are white and known to have popularity. Why does Milwaukee’s problem with black mayors of ideas have a concern? And the city is 172 years old with a segregated past and present.

When ABC’s Scandal is done, and it’s the last season, what ranking will the show be on the best list concerning black television?

There was a indication of Black Slave traders that sold their own into slavery and also managed the slaves. True or False?

Who’s looking forward watching Black Olympians in the Winter Games? You know they are in Korea. Oh, and by the way: Shani Davis is in competition.

Here in Wisconsin, one candidate of the democrats is African-American named Mahlon Mitchell. Could he be the man to take out Scott Walker? Better vote up, Wisconsin!

In Wisconsin: what is the Black Community’s real response to Foxconn? Mainly for those who don’t have their own transportation!

If you are woke and black, you need to see this clip over and over again. Why you ask?

It seems that every year that those who say “I’m black every month” is probably bored around Black History Month. What are the reasons? Are we not engaged enough? What is the problem? We still don’t know everything as we know some to say at least.

For my Black Motorcycle Riders: is the Iron Elite still on point for Harley-Davidson? And are you coming to Milwaukee for HD’s 115th Anniversary in the Summer?

You non-Black folks: as you explore Black History, you realize that not every black folk is considered a thug or a N*gger, right? Many of us were raised way better than that.

Which current African-Americans in the companies is the best OWNER and Supervisor right now that is making history? And got the inspiration from those that MADE HISTORY?

Who were and are the best UNSUNG Blacks Heroes that never got any recognition that deserved recognition right now?

Bonus question:  In honor of those whom are not here with us, which of our Black Ancestors were a beacon to have us move forward in life and career?

And the last question: yes we know this question, do we believe that Black Excellence is still available and hopeful?

Happy Black History Month!

Always.
