Posts Tagged ‘Holidays’

With the still new year in motion, it’s already being bonkers. Of course today we are removed from the first Federal Holiday in honor of Dr. King. And yeah, New Year’s Day. But in all what has 2019 has done thus far, well not much except the inaugurations and the soon to be done 2018-19 NFL Season. And the disappointing Government Shutdown that plagued the 800,000 workers. Shameful! And like many before, I’m scratching my head again.

Black folks: what about this challenge? Can this happen?

I’m assuming that all of the Divine 9 January Founder’s Day “Days” have been accounted for?

So how’re those New Year’s Resolutions holding up? Like seriously?!

So Gladys Knight is going to sing the National Anthem for the Super Bowl. And yes we know that the song had the Third Stanza of “No heirling or refuge for a slave” lyric. And many called her to be off-limits to black cards and cookouts. On the flip side, Gladys Knight has been on the forefront way before me, the millennials, generation z, all the so-called woke and conscious revolutionary folks, and even Colin Kaepernick and his girlfriend Nessa. So why we have to question her and her choice of singing the Anthem?! And making her sing the third stanza?! What kind of “ish” is that? Man, regardless of the decision she made and it’s none of our concern, respect the elders. I’m just saying!

Just recently, there was a Black Millionaire, named Robert F. Smith that donated to an HBCU, Morehouse College in Georgia, and many black folks on the Black Enterprise Facebook Page cried foul about this. Seriously, what is the problem?!!

Can the Marijuana users in all be very safe after going into the stores smelling so bad?! And the same on the roads?!!
CALLOUT: For all of the African-Americans in Wisconsin: If many had complained about the lack of qualified applicants of color, which is viable so, why many of us HAD NOT APPLIED for the jobs that the Evers Administration had displayed prior to him taking office?! They were displayed online for several weeks! We complain about this and that, and when the opportunity comes up, we go on empty. And also, what’s up the black caucuses’ in Wisconsin?! Why haven’t they been used as a resource in this? No, I’m not talking about the NAACP or the National/Local Urban Leagues. I’m talking about the Black Caucuses that many don’t tap into as much in the African-American Communities. We should know!
SECOND CALLOUT: White folks, why do you have to resort being triggered when it comes to a black man or a black woman who the phrase, “my black brothers and sisters” when addressing our concern of race? Or interracial marriage? This was brought up recently!

Update on the Shutdown: it seems that the workers are getting their checks on again and working. But why only 3 weeks until February 15th?

For all of us in the Midwest, you really believe that the Polar Vortex is not a joke?

The week of January 28th will highlight the 33rd Anniversary of the Challenger Explosion of 1986. Many of us were young when that day happened. I’m talking about us Generation X folks. Just to ask, who are the fools who think that the moon landing was fake back in 1969 which that nothing to do with this at all?!

So I hear that Valentine’s Day is rapidly approaching. Um….not many like valentines though. Who really does? With all the negativity of dating and folks being way too much about that one guy or girl! Or rumors.

And the FINAL QUESTION of the first Scratching My Head All The Time Blog Post of 2019: When that Covington High School student that was disrespectful just staring at the Navajo Elder on his turf, with a MAGA hat. What was his problem?! And you know that was out of bounds dealing with racism. And oh, the jury is still out on this matter after that Today show interview.

BONUS QUESTION: It seems that the hate on Terry Crews getting sexually assaulted way back when is getting a backlash. Usually from Black Men, even D.L. Hughley, and several others. When women get sexually assaulted or abused or inappropriately touched many of them and some men do go out and band together and raise hell on the dude that did the act. HOWEVER: when a Man gets sexually assaulted, no matter how long ago it was, he receives that laughing joking reaction and gets humiliated by the male audience. Folks, when this happens in our society, what is the general common ground that stuff likes this goes on almost everytime, and it doesn’t get the same amount of respect that needed to be heard? I say this every June when Men’s Health Month comes around, with all the “Men need to go to the doctors to get checked out” speeches. BUT THIS is a health matter that Men need to be aware of and tackle with a strong Health and Wellness Foundation to improve. If this issue is bad for Men, what will it mean for the young boys who are running wild and stupid (due to DNA Samples) and many of them without setting them straight because of their dads, uncles, grandfathers, male cousins, and others are LIVING FOUL?! And women who sexually assault or abuse men, don’t get off that easily. You’re in this also!

I know that the holiday of Thanksgiving has ended. Had the chance to eat up the grub that was blessed with. And yes, pie was served with that whip cream. All with the Thanksgiving trimmings with NFL Football in between.

Now I want to call out the fools who want to act a fool on Black Friday with this video:

All of you in these videos: really?! This is one of the main reasons why I do not go out and shop on Black Friday. Nope.

I’ve mentioned this years ago (actually 4 years ago) when I blogged like crazy about the disdain about the frenzy Black Friday showdown at the Best Buy’s, JCPenney’s,  ToysRUS, Walmarts, and many other boxed retailers we’ve been shopping all along! WE KNOW. We pass by these stores everyday on our way to work, school, your friends house, your boyfriend’s or girlfriend’s house, or your favorite spot just to kick it. Don’t tell me we’ve done it.

Speaking of that, remember when I posted this months “Scratching my head question” months ago:

wp-1457676496746.jpg

Um….Every year, get up early to go to the stores and get the deals, but can’t do the same for the Worship Services?

Um, yeah. Remember that? Remember when I posted that question? Let that sink in. Well many of you probably have done it. If we get up all early for all these Black Friday deals, which is NO DEAL AT ALL per say, why not get up early for Church? Spoiler Alert: you will get up early again for a major holiday, that would be Christmas. Your kids will be the first ones up as usual going to that tree and pop open them gifts like crazy. Oh I know the feeling because I’ve done it. Many of you who are about my age (turning 4o on December 5th) already knows about that anticipation because we did the same thing. Yeah I know that guilt train is still running on time.

But really though, why is it about some folks or many folks have to fight like hell all because of a TV? Or in this video above, why there are some knuckleheads had to start a fight and then it’s on WorldStar or some tabloid website from your own cell phone? Yes I know that many have cell phones and where there is fight, it will be on the internet. Don’t let the cops catch it! Once it goes out, it goes out. Just like your email addresses!  Don’t be so surprised if someone’s sons are in that video, and it will embarrass the family, their chances of getting into college or a club or an organization will be tarnished. Consequences are a bugger.

We know from history like this clip below does not change. It really doesn’t. And plus what do we say to our children who look at the adults that we tell them to act nice in public? Oh I hate to go there.

Folks: if we tell our children to act right, then we as adults better get right with Jesus and his meetings and ACTUALLY do the job. Enough of the mess. No matter what holiday comes up.

End of the rant.

Will any of the drone users register their drones to the FAA?

And………Will 2016 be that year for you to make it?

I’m going to bust out some questions that really have my head scratching. Some fun, mostly serious. Usually I do this around the end of the year, but this is a warm up in which in December, next month you will see a different turn out.

  • I know it just ended, but why do folks on FB (in a negative sense) spelled Halloween like this: “Holloween”?
  • Has Sheriff David Clarke really put himself over his head about Police Brutality being over? And being scared of black media like Roland Martin on TVOne?
  • Do we really need Paul Ryan to head the Speaker of the House?
  • Anyone from your past STILL has a crush on you and don’t know it?
  • We know (mostly in Milwaukee) Sheriff David Clarke and is almost related conservative commentary. So why the phrase, “Black Lies Matter?”
  • Speaking of which, do people really think that Black Lives Matter is out to kill cops?
  • Take a wild guess: Still, despite of the suggestion of Louis Farrakhan from the “Justice or Else” Rally, are you really going to do Christmas shopping and tell your kids that “I picked out those gifts, instead of Santa Claus?”
  • Veteran’s Day is coming up. Whose lighting the houses green?
  • Will us Sagittarians be really ready after the Scorpios give up the Zodiac Baton? And rule the 9th house as any Sag should?
  • Why did the Christmas stuff came out SO EARLY in the stores? Right after Halloween?
  • For those who like to sabotage High School Class Reunions, or any Reunion: WHAT IS YOUR BEEF?!!!!!
  • For all those who say “We can’t find anyone in the black community” in relation to jobs, where and what are you digging?
  • For the Church Haters out there: Are you really believing that ALL CHURCH MEMBERS AND BISHOPS, MINISTERS, are all the same team to take your money and be pimpish?
  • For all you BGLO/Divine 9’rs out there, DO YOU REALLY invite Iota Phi Theta to your functions, or you just leave them off your plans to attend? Just don’t say, “well we attempt to contact everybody to come…….” TRY HARDER! I mean it with love.
  • Will you, the average voter are assuming that after President Obama leaves office in 2017, still believe that the “nightmare” will be over?
  • Will the Green Bay Packers win the Superbowl, WITHOUT Jordy Nelson and prove to have 14 NFL Straps?
  • For all you Conscious folks out there, always posting those memes on Facebook, and Instagram. Are you really serious about the things you say and believe, or what?
  • Why do folks on Facebook have to post a “photoshop” photo of President Obama and Michelle in a Pimp and Prostitute look? Are they really this dumb?
  • For those who are looking for a man, (especially Single Black Women looking for love) why at times do you have to say all men ain’t you know what? And having this bitter generalization attitude? Not every man you generalize is not your father who left you at 13 or earlier!
  • Not to pick on the Italians, but why was a young gymnast from your country had to say something about painting her skin dark to win gym matches? REALLY?!!!
  • Here is a question: black folks I need to ask, when facing all the problems in the cities, northern cities per say: Why move to Atlanta? Does the ATL have problems like oh……….Milwaukee? Or any other city that deals with high unemployment, racism, black violence,  discrimination against Blacks, etc. No matter where you go, there are problems EVERYWHERE! Especially in states where Slavery started. Just saying.
  • Can those who have Drones flying around, actually get jobs with big bucks?
  • Can Rachel Dolazal and Raven-Symone be really traded?
  • Speaking of Halloween, most religious folks think it’s the devil’s holiday. Do they realize that has connections to All Saint’s Day, that is a religious occasion? And oh, by the way, not to knock on anything or anyone, the devil does not take a holiday. Even if it’s Thanksgiving, Christmas, your baby’s birthday, or 9/11. I’M JUST SAYING!!! Be on watch!
  • And the last question: why are our kids whom are 7 to 11 years old, in Milwaukee are getting robbed for these Hoverboards? And the thing is they probably robbed them for some drug money. Or because they are poor for not having food, and didn’t mean to do it. Think about it.

There will be more to come. Just wait for it toward the end of the year.

Yes Americans. That ongoing concern of post racial society is not working. No there are not silver bullets for this. Nor knives or any other weapons. The reason for this story, because most recently, my alma mater of UW-Stout was recently hit with a local white resident expressing racial slurs to a student of color all because the resident of Menomonie blocked a parking area. See the message that the new chancellor, Bob Meyer addressed the Stout community.

A message from Chancellor Meyer concerning a recent act of racial hate against two of our students:

I have heard from a number of people that they would like more details of the hate incident that occurred recently involving two of our students and a male Menomonie resident. According to our University Police Department, this is what happened:

A female African American student, with her roommate, was driving in the north campus area and was followed by the man into Lot 32 after a traffic dispute. She couldn’t find a parking spot and, when she tried to leave the lot, the man’s vehicle blocked her exit.

The man then got out of his vehicle and started yelling at the student, including the use of racial slurs. Eventually, the student was allowed to drive out of the lot, and she reported the incident to campus police.

The man subsequently was identified, and he has been charged with the crime of disorderly conduct, with an enhanced hate-crime penalty. His case is pending in Dunn County Circuit Court.

I want to emphasize how seriously I view this incident and any incident in which one of our students (or employees) is subjected to discrimination because of their race, gender, religion, sexual orientation or any other reason. Hate crimes and bias incidents have no place on our campus or in the community, period.

The campus has a Bias Incident Response Team, and it met as soon as this incident was reported. I was kept apprised of the team’s response.

The initial response was intended to ensure the students had all the support possible and to identify the perpetrator. The dean of students, director of Multicultural Students Services and university police met with the two students the night of the incident and continued to work with them to ensure their needs were met.

I look forward to this incident leading to increased dialogue among the university community about how to enhance the level of civility, acceptance and respect of all people. We all want a safe and welcoming campus and community.

Anyone who believes they are the victim of a hate or bias incident or want more information on the subject should go to: http://www.uwstout.edu/services/dean/students/reportbias.cfm

And this additionally from the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram

MENOMONIE – UW-Stout Chancellor Bob Meyer said he believes a recently reported incident involving at least one racial slur used against a UW-Stout black student will lead to greater education across campus and Menomonie about civility and respect for all.

UW-Stout police received a report on Nov. 11 from a 19-year-old woman that a white man had threatened her and used at least one racial slur against her. He also blocked her into a university parking lot with his pickup truck, according to UW-Stout police Chief Lisa Walter.

Ronald A. Grundeman, 42, of Menomonie faces a citation of misdemeanor disorderly conduct with an enhanced hate crime.

Grundeman is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 9. A criminal complaint had not been filed as of Wednesday.

At the intersection of Crescent Street, Fourth Avenue and Broadway Street, the student reported, her vehicle was almost struck by the pickup truck after it ran a red light.

Grundeman told authorities he had the green light and the student ran a red light, Walter said.

“They believed the other person was at significant fault,” Walter said.

After the near accident, Grundeman is accused of following the woman and another student, who was a passenger in the car and blocking the exit of a university parking lot and yelling at the student. Police said they believe the racial slur was used multiple times.

The students reported that Grundeman threatened he would kill the woman if they were alone. Grundeman told authorities he said the woman could be killed if she continued to drive in that manner, Walter said.

The passenger in Grundeman’s pickup truck posted an account of the traffic altercation on social media, and police were able to determine Grundeman was the driver after talking to the passenger.

Grundeman admitted to being upset and told police he directed a racial slur at the woman, Walter said. Grundeman was arrested Nov. 12 and taken to the Dunn County Jail before he was released.

Meyer said it is upsetting that Grundeman used “despicable language” against the woman.

“My first reaction as a parent was ‘Is my student in a safe school?’ ” Meyer said. “The university has been working a long time to create a welcoming environment. This is not the type of behavior we would like to see. We are trying to create a place of respect and tolerance and a safe environment for students.”

The UW-Stout Bias Incident Response Team met as soon as the incident was reported and worked to provide support for the two students and to locate Grundeman, Meyer said.

In the aftermath of the incident, UW-Stout students are planning activities that include a solidarity demonstration sometime next week.

In this, this is one example that the relations talk about race is still on the table. I know that many are going to say, and here it comes: “I have a lot of black friends……”  Well first of all, as I said many times before, that quote is not cutting it. If those wanting to know the black student population at UW-Stout, its low around 0.6%. Yes we all should know that the University is a PWI school, located in Dunn County near Eau Claire. But that’s not the story. What is the story the most, is the on going racism among college campuses. And also there are those who think that it doesn’t exist. Umm….notes to those who want to know, it does exist and it has many forms and angles. Even you see it on the outside of a college dorm room or a college class room. I want those who feel it’s all smoke and mirrors, or to think  that we should be on the “Human Race” factor, well let me tell you, if those doing the history of certain things, the Human Race per say, was started and originated by black folks. That’s where your human race thing started up! Go all the way back to the beginning of human civilization where mostly African black people were the first of it’s debut. That’s your human race! Plus also in order to be apart of this Human race thing, in my view, you have to start out in your house. And speaking of houses, we all know that the Holidays are coming up. Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and of course to round out the year of with New Year’s Eve and Day. Yes, when the dinners happen, we will probably hear that uncle, or that aunt, or believe it or not, your older cousin or parents, or maybe grandparents in which they might make those black N*gger jokes around the dinner table. Or those Gay hating dialogue commentary. We know this! But to those who are doing the defending of those who have friends who are black or gay or whatever that is making no big deal of those who are in those categories:

Challenge statement here – if you really have those friends of African decent, or those who like to love the same gender and they are being commented on, would you defend them?

Or in getting to this question: if the guys or gals per say who make the racial commentary, and you have shared a beer or a game with them in a friendly way, are they are the same folks who go home in their households? I say this alot.

But getting back to UW-Stout and this racial incident. I say this as an alum of the school. Got my bachelor’s degree in Industrial Management, used the Distance Education thing to get my degree done in 4 years, y’all know the story. I want my Alma Mater to realize that it’s fine to rally around the flag and to declare the racism acts on notice. BUT: I want to also say that it’s going to take more than just one day of a rally to end it. It needs to be on the tasks everyday to let those know that it’s an everyday battle. And for those who feel are in denial, or felt that it’s gotten over. I conclude this story with these two words: WAKE UP!

And to add: get out of the funk, out of the denial, out the “negropean mentality” (for those that are black and don’t see it and thinking it won’t effect them) and many others who think that having black friends is a conclusion of no real racism, or planning to move to getaway from racism in all, even saying it’s 2014,  I say again: WAKE UP!

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 4,900 times in 2013. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 4 trips to carry that many people.

Ok Spotters: thanks for looking at my blog this year. I know many of the things I write may not be for some, but I write these things to tell a story. And also to vote on my reaction. Technically, it’s really giving my voice an extension of what I really want to say away from Facebook, and many other social media sites. Not that I don’t care, it’s just stating my own opinion of certain topics and examples in an more open fourm.

Thanks for reading. But like last time, you will see more of my hard hitting blog topics in 2014. Including my annual blog of “What I Don’t Want to see” story. Plus since 2014 is an Midterm Election Year, I will be getting my commentary on about why many in America SHOULD VOTE UP in 2014!  No Excuses, America!

Other than that: Happy New Year!

If those haven’t noticed, it’s Small Business Saturday  A day in part of the Thanksgiving Weekend/Black Friday Shopping Stuff in order to gear up on the Christmas Shopping Season. Now for the crazed “Zombies” err…..Shoppers who went shopping late Thanksgiving Night/Early Friday Morning just to stand in line, I assume that they are somewhat happy of what they got. But like every year, I say that that the Retail stores have all these “deals” but they aren’t really deals! They’re not. Like many others, I was looking at the Youtube Videos of Black Friday, and I cannot believe the attitude of these SHOPPERS who have to trample over folks all because of a Cell Phone, a cookware appliance  I mean REALLY?! All because of that. Well some of these shoppers have made the video cut on Huffington Post, Yahoo, the national news and also the Local News. Shameful! I mean the holidays are here but jeez! There are those who would trample over some’s life over a “Black Friday deal?” Now I know I posted this on my Facebook page just today as a “open challenge”:

Saturday AM. Here’s a challenge: If folks can jam pack the malls or national chain stores, why jam pack (and support) the small businesses? It’s Small Business Saturday.

Yeah, what about that, Black Friday Shoppers? I’m just saying. If you can jam pack Walmart, Victoria’s Secret (suprised),  KMart, ToysRUs, Best Buy, HHGregg,  or any well known national chain store in the nation, why not some of these small businesses that pop up near our corners or shopping strip malls? Those stores that locally get no play as much. No matter if they are a local restaurants, stores, bakeries,  pizza shops, or hangouts. We know what they are. Miller Brewery Company – or it’s new name MillerCoors – one of the last standing breweries in Milwaukee that continues more production of the product throughout the world. Others like Pabst Brewery(PBR ME ASAP!), Schlitz, Old Milwaukee, etc. It also used to be called the “Beer Capitol of the World.”

Marcus Theaters – There are currently 5 in the Greater Milwaukee, unfortunately not on Milwaukee’s Northside. But it’s home grown and locally known.

Just to clarify, this is not to take away from the national well known folks. It’s just to make the other stores and companies that are locally known or soon to be locally known in or around Milwaukee to support and check out. Don’t just check them out during the start of the Christmas Holiday Season, but also follow them all year long. The more you follow, the more the stores can benefit the respect. All I’m say is just check them out. Not only for those out of town, but also those live in the city locally. Even though it’s a small sample of my knowledge, but it’s a small start to recognize these organizations and businesses just as the national chain organizations.

Today, we Americans have celebrated another Thanksgiving Holiday. A day to set aside differences and actually try to come together to give thanks of who we are, what we did, and more. Every single year around this time, I write the “Be Thankful” blogs for simple reasons. Really it’s all about being thankful for the things we have and things yet to be. No matter if it’s staying single, (like me) getting married, or working, seeking to work. going to church for finding a church home, or many other things that most do comment or share. So yes, even though Thanksgiving is only once a year, every November around the fourth Thursday, we should also be thankful for the things we do everyday.

Now I know about the next thing I’m going to write. And alot of you already have declared that you may not or have decided not to celebrate. I think I know why. It had to do with the murder of the Native Americans sometime after the Pilgrims landed in the country. 10 years ago, I was taking a course of U.S. History at Milwaukee Area Technical College, and in the course, a subject came up about Thanksgiving. The teacher asked “what do you know about the first Thanksgiving?’ I remember answering, the Pilgrims, Indians and the first dinner. Basically what I have learned before, so far. But the teacher had also added another piece of the history that I never knew. A Sunday morning, after a church service the Indians were shot, and that somewhat set off the first Thanksgiving as being hurtful for the Native Americans. I like many others who was lectured about that incident, was like, For real?!!! Here, I was like; wait a minute. You mean to tell me, that Thanksgiving Day, the fourth Thursday of November, a day to feast, and watch/play football is also a day or occasion that some of the Native Americans were killed at the time? And those today, detest that?

That was my initial thought.

For the Native American folks, I feel your pain. I feel your pain of what happened  with your predecessors at that time. You have every right to complain. Where as me, has a right to complain about slavery, and how blacks and those others like them were in shackles and chains. Being forcefully drifted from the motherland of Africa to the Eastern part of the United States like Jamestown, Virginia. And I know that other folks have or had said  currently “Get over it.” It didn’t happen to you. Yes we made it, but never forget the pain that has contradicted in preceding the incidents of the past.

Many of us who study history, we know the history we currently summarize from memory, but like everything else, there is always another element that needs to be recognized no matter how dark or controversial it may be. So, I understand. I also understand that everyone is different. Most believe that “Black History Month” is full of propaganda or racist. Oh, really? Black History Month was founded in 1926 at a time when the stories of African-Americans weren’t recorded in American History. Remember I wrote a blog about that back in February. And Dr. Carter Woodson’s vision of having this was to tell the world that Black folks made a difference also. Not just in America, but also the world. And for those forgotten, Blacks BUILT the White House! When I celebrate Thanksgiving. In General mind you. I celebrate it for the positive reasons. The same with the Fourth of July, Memorial Day, and any other American Holiday the same way. Plus, Christmas, Easter and others annual holidays and events. This also includes Black History Month. So Thanksgiving has came and went for 2012. And yes, the positiveness has once again endured every American soul with the same ol’ question: What are you thankful for?

And by the way: for the black folks, check out the article from TheGrio, called “Native American roots in Black America run deep.” My reason being, because some of us should know that we have Indian in our family. Check it out.
