I was reading the blogs today about the angle between Bill Cosby and Allen West. Uh-oh. Now this is all about the former Republican representative having his liberties of discontent about Bill Cosby’s appreciation of Black Muslims. Personally, I don’t see anything wrong with it, but the viewpoint of guys like West really poisons the mind. Exactly what did Allen say about it? We’ve all seen it. (via Twitter)

“2day in NY Post, Bill Cosby said we should b more like Muslims. U mean honor killings, beheadings, suicide bombings? Hope ur kidding sir,”

Um Really? Over a viewpoint?

For Bill Cosby’s viewpoint was just plain well. In which he writes this:

“I’m a Christian. But Muslims are misunderstood. Intentionally misunderstood. We should all be more like them. They make sense, especially with their children. There is no other group like the Black Muslims, who put so much effort into teaching children the right things, they don’t smoke, they don’t drink or overindulge in alcohol, they protect their women, they command respect.”

Very blended with respect. Agreeable?

The contrast of this is Allen West is using that old boys mentality of hate. Yes, I do recognize that he served in the Military. Guess what? Bill Cosby served also in the Military. – US Navy to be exact.  And I think that Bill Cosby has given back more to HBCU’s, Education, his Fraternity of Omega Psi Phi, his charitable  philanthropies, well known for his TV shows,  and plus of him going to the black neighborhoods and telling black folks to wake up with responsibility! However, what Allen West done besides being a Representative, a military guy,  and softballing to Fox News of his base of the right wing?

Well for me. I have no hate against muslims. Matter of fact, a couple of blogs ago, I commented about a recent church event here in Milwaukee, that was entitled: “Love Is – Healthy Relationships”. And one of our guest male speakers was indeed a muslim. He came in with a purpose of presenting a intellectual side of Domestic Violence that goes on in different angles that most should know. The guest speaker, Shawn Muhammad is the first African American in my home city to headline a DV organization, plus he’s a organizer, rapper and poet. He also commented that black women should be treated as queens, not put downs! The more he spoke about the angles like that and others with respect, I was impressed that he enlightened our Christian/United Methodist Audience in terms of recognizing more of the issues in the African-American Community. And plus, he also stated that we shouldn’t always go outside of the communities for help (I hope the United Methodist Folks are paying attention!) but also getting us to seek answers within the community. There are those in the Milwaukee Area, (not the GREATER Milwaukee Area)  that do have ideas to brainstorm, but often again are unmentioned or shot down! Why? Nobody doesn’t want to hear them. I maybe saying this from a personal stance of opinion, but that how I see it. However there are those who listen. And try to contrast it. But mostly it’s a ongoing battle.

Long time ago or several years ago, I heard on Bill Maher’s show when Cornell West was commenting that blacks don’t always think the same. Well he’s right. This angle between West and Cosby is no different from what I hear between a Black Democrat, and a Black Republican. And conversely, a Black Independent. One person has a viewpoint, another has theirs and so forth. We get it.

Personally this angle, yes I have to admit they have been successful in terms of career. BUT in my view, Allen West appeases his liberties to the past in which African-Americans should be “in the back”, while Cosby enhances us to be pushed forward while carrying the responsibility of what we have to do. Yes even though Cosby used the proverbial usage from his show:  “I got you in this world, I can get you out!. Oh show of hands, how many of the parents of the blog use that notion today? Go ahead. Show your hands.

Partially, I think Allen West needs to get a grip!

So this shouldn’t come as a shock.
