Aaliyah – 5 Years Later

Posted: August 25, 2006 in Music

August 25th, 2001 was one of the darkest days in the history of r and b Music.  I remember reading the Journal Sentinel on the 26th that year about certain events, and job opportunities. But one caught my eye in a shocker, Aaliyah dies in a plane crash. She was a talent of 22 years of age who was full of grace and most of all, great exposure of music. She came from a musicial family, her uncles were music producers, and she was a niece to Gladys Knight. Her plane crash death made the list of famous celebrities of Otis Redding, Stevie Ray Vaughn and others  that had perished. If Aaliyah were alive today, I think she would be up against current artists of Beyonce, Ashanti, Cassie, India.Arie, and maybe collaborationg with the likes of Prince, Lenny Kravitz, and many others.  What are my Aaliyah joints? Back in 1994, I remember listenting to Back and Forth and Age Aint Nothing But A Number.  Then in 1996, the same year that Aaliyah graduated from High School, I remember if your girl only knew, One In A Million, and 4 Page Letter. 1999 was also a year that Aaliyah created her first Soundtrack, from the movie, Romeo Must Die. The songs, Are you Feelin’ Me? and Try Again to me were the most played.  Finally, before her death, Aaliyah’s third album had hits of We need a resolution, More than a woman and the best joint, Rock the Boat. It has been five years since Aaliyah’s passing but I think she is much more alive than dead.
