January Excitement – NFL Playoffs, WWE’s New Years Revolution, Royal Rumble

Posted: January 18, 2006 in Uncategorized

It’s playoff time! The NFL Playoffs are off and running with an opportunity to win the Superbowl.  This year Denver, Pittsburgh, Carolina and Seattle will battle for a chance at greatness. Denver probably did the improvable by defeated the now former champs New England Patriots, The Steelers barely passed the test against the Colts which probably the refs should take the blame for barely. On the NFC, the Panthers kicked the Bears to the curb. (I wonder if the song in Milwaukee still plays "The Bears Still Suck") and Seattle dethroned the Redskins. I have no clear cut winner in this year’s SuperBowl and I know that 2 of the most dominant teams of these four would be strong enough to advance to the NFL’s Main Event.
Now, on to the WWE. Vince McMahon’s company already unveiled the NY Revoulution PPV by John Cena winning the Elimination Chamber Match. – Good News. But every good news, come bad news. Edge cashed in his "Money In The Bank",  and in 2 minutes, beat Cena for the strap. I’ll say this, Edge will lose the title once again to Cena this year and probably never get a rematch. But Cena, would get his belt back later this year, because I think the Royal Rumble is too early. Speaking of the Rumble, – 30 Men (15 Raw, 15 Smackdown) 1 Ring, 1 Opportunity. The opporutunity is to go to Wrestlemania 22 to face either the WWE Champion or World Champion (whomever it maybe depending on the superstar from their resepective brands). I remember some Royal Rumble moments in which in 1994 – Bret Hart/Lex Luger won in a tie. In 1995, Shawn Michaels and the late British Bulldog drew in #’s 1 and 2. They went through 28 superstars at the time and they stayed in the match for the whole time. Both super stars ended the rumble by HBK dethroning the Bulldog over the top rope because, Shawn Michaels was nearly done if it had not been for one of his feet touching the floor. This also marked the first time that Shawn won the Rumble with the number 1 selection. A year later, HBK drew #18 and won, and went to Wrestlemania 12. Last year’s rumble had Batista and John Cena last in the ring and eventually The Animal won, by dethroning Cena in a decided sudden death style rumble which was ordered by Mr. McMahon. Chris Benoit won the Rumble in 2004, by getting the Big Show out of the ring and spearing his way to Wrestlemania 20. (By drawing #1) Previously, Triple H, dethroned Kurt Angle in 2002’s Rumble to get a shot at Chris Jericho at Wrestlemania 18. Which superstar would be the next man to go to Wrestlemania and face the champion? I guess in order to get to Wrestlemania, you got to go through the Royal Rumble.
